Анотація:
The next evolution in cellular communications will not only improve upon the performance of previous generations, but also represent an unparalleled expansion in the number of services and use cases. One of the foundations for this evolution is the design of highly flexible, versatile, and resource-/power-efficient hardware components. This paper proposes and evaluates an FPGA-oriented baseband processing architecture suitable for communication scenarios such as non-contiguous carrier aggregation, centralized Cloud Radio Access Network (C-RAN) processing, and 4G/5G waveform coexistence. Our system is upgradeable, resource-efficient, cost-effective, and provides support for three 5G waveform candidates. Exploring Dynamic Partial Reconfiguration (DPR), the proposed architecture expands the design space exploration beyond the available hardware resources on the Zynq xc7z020 through hardware virtualization. Additionally, Dynamic Frequency Scaling (DFS) allows for run-time adjustment of processing throughput and reduces power consumption up to 88%. The resource overhead for DPR and DFS is residual, and the reconfiguration latency is two orders of magnitude below the control plane latency requirements proposed for 5G communications.

A solid demand to integrate energy consumption and co-generation emerged worldwide, motivated, on one hand, by the need to diversify and enhance energy supply, and, one the other hand, by the pressure to attend to the requirements of a heterogeneous class of users. The coupling between energy service provision and final users also includes balancing user needs, eliminating excesses, and optimizing energy supply while avoiding blackouts. Another motivation is the challenge of having sustainable sources and many adapted to the user ecosystem. Altogether, these motivations lead to more abstract design approaches to co-generation-distributed systems, such as those based on goal-oriented requirements used to model smart grids. This work considers the available design practices and its difficulties in proposing a new method capable of producing a flexible requirement model that could serve for design and maintenance purposes. We suggest coupling the approach based on goal-oriented requirements with model-based engineering to support such a model. The expected result is a sound and flexible requirements model, including a model for the interaction with the final user (now being considered a producer and consumer simultaneously). A case study is presented, wherein a small energy service system in an isolated community in the Amazon rain forest was designed.

AbstractIn the nineteenth century, colonial officials relied heavily on coercion to recruit “coolie” labour for “public works” and to provide various support services in the North-East Frontier of British India. “Treaties” with defeated chiefs and the subsequent population enumeration and taxation were strongly oriented to the mobilization of labour for road building and porterage. Forced labour provided the colonial officials with a steady supply of coolies to work on the roads as well as carriers for military expeditions. In mobilizing labour resources, however, colonial officials had to create and draw upon native agents such as the headmen and interpreters who came to play a crucial role in the colonial order of things. Focusing on the Naga Hills, this article will examine the efforts of the colonial state to secure a large circulating labour force, the forms of labour relations that emerged from the need to build colonial infrastructure and the demand for coolies in military expeditions, the response of the hill people to labour conscription and its impact on the hill “tribes”.

Attendance can be said to be a presence data collection that is part of reporting activities that exist within an institution. A company requires a policy, especially the level of employee discipline. Discipline from employees is the main benchmark in seeing employee performance based on his presence in the company. A company must have a staff attendance system that can manage employee attendance based on obligations, prohibitions, and sanctions if an employee's obligations are not obeyed or violated. The problem that often occurs at the Bandung Central Statistics Agency is when employees are assigned to take a business trip, often the employee does not attend first to the office. By applying the Rapid Application Development (RAD) method, a method of software development with an object-oriented approach to system development, this method shorten the time in planning, designing, and implementing a system compared to traditional methods. Then the Location Based Service (LBS) method is used to access geographical information services used by users with mobile phone devices through cellular network connections to map locations to determine where the location of the user is. Thus, the existence of this research can help companies and employees in performing their performance without being bothered by pressure of workload.

To meet the growing demand for mobile data traffic and the stringent requirements for Internet of Things (IoT) applications in emerging cities such as smart cities, healthcare, augmented / virtual reality (AR / VR), fifth-generation assistive technologies generation (5G) Suggest and use on the web. As a major emerging 5G technology and a major driver of the Internet of Things, Multiple Access Edge Computing (MEC), which integrates telecommunications and IT services, provides cloud computing capabilities at the edge of an access network. wireless (RAN). By providing maximum compute and storage resources, MEC can reduce end-user latency. Therefore, in this article we will take a closer look at 5G MEC and the Internet of Things. Analyze the main functions of MEC in 5G and IoT environments. It offers several core technologies that enable the use of MEC in 5G and IoT, such as cloud computing, SDN / NFV, information-oriented networks, virtual machines (VMs) and containers, smart devices, shared networks and computing offload. This article also provides an overview of MEC's ​​role in 5G and IoT, a detailed introduction to MEC-enabled 5G and IoT applications, and future perspectives for MEC integration with 5G and IoT. Additionally, this article will take a closer look at the MEC research challenges and unresolved issues around 5G and the Internet of Things. Finally, we propose a use case that MEC uses to obtain advanced intelligence in IoT scenarios.

Анотація:
China is promoting the construction of an integrated positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) systems with the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) as its core. To expand the positioning coverage area and improve the positioning performance by taking advantage of device-to-device (D2D) and self-organizing network (SON) technology, a BDS/SON integrated positioning system is proposed for the fifth-generation (5G) networking environment. This system relies on a combination of time-of-arrival (TOA) and BeiDou pseudo-range measurements to effectively supplement BeiDou signal blind spots, expand the positioning coverage area, and realize higher precision in continuous navigation and positioning. By establishing the system state model, and addressing the single-system positioning divergence and insufficient accuracy, a robust adaptive fading filtering (RAF) algorithm based on the prediction residual is proposed to suppress gross errors and filtering divergence in order to improve the stability and accuracy of the positioning results. Subsequently, a federated Kalman filtering (FKF) algorithm operating in fusion-feedback mode is developed to centrally process the positioning information of the combined system. Considering that the prediction error can reflect the magnitude of the model error, an adaptive information distribution coefficient is introduced to further improve the filtering performance. Actual measurement and significance test results show that by integrating BDS and SON positioning data, the proposed algorithm realizes robust, reliable, and continuous high precision location services with anti-interference capabilities and good universality. It is applicable in scenarios involving unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), autonomous driving, military, public safety and other contexts and can even realize indoor positioning and other regional positioning tasks.

Background: Bioinformatics software for RNA-seq analysis has a high computational requirement in terms of the number of CPUs, RAM size, and processor characteristics. Specifically, de novo transcriptome assembly demands large computational infrastructure due to the massive data size, and complexity of the algorithms employed. Comparative studies on the quality of the transcriptome yielded by de novo assemblers have been previously published, lacking, however, a hardware efficiency-oriented approach to help select the assembly hardware platform in a cost-efficient way. Objective: We tested the performance of two popular de novo transcriptome assemblers, Trinity and SOAPdenovo-Trans (SDNT), in terms of cost-efficiency and quality to assess limitations, and provided troubleshooting and guidelines to run transcriptome assemblies efficiently. Methods: We built virtual machines with different hardware characteristics (CPU number, RAM size) in the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud of the Amazon Web Services. Using simulated and real data sets, we measured the elapsed time, cost, CPU percentage and output size of small and large data set assemblies. Results: For small data sets, SDNT outperformed Trinity by an order the magnitude, significantly reducing the time duration and costs of the assembly. For large data sets, Trinity performed better than SDNT. Both the assemblers provide good quality transcriptomes. Conclusion: The selection of the optimal transcriptome assembler and provision of computational resources depend on the combined effect of size and complexity of RNA-seq experiments.

Scholars, the ICT community, and policy experts argue that ICT benefits have not been harnessed by most citizens in developing countries, particularly Botswana, due to lack of indigenous software applications for e-commerce, health, customer services, and mismanagement of the ICT infrastructures. Considering the huge investment of public funds on broadband fibre hub, acquization of ICT infrastructures, various committees and sub-committees setup for the management of these infrastructures, it should be expected the the country is well equipped to become the centre for ICT hub in Africa, which unfortunately is not so. Thus, researchers and the media have decried the lack of ICT infrastructure utilization and lack of software applications to utilize the vast infrastructures. To ascertain these reports and better understand the situation, there is a need to holistically research into the ICT project's activities. The mixed research methodology was used in this research which comprised qualitative and quantitative methods for data collection and analysis to gain an in-depth understanding of the broadband development services and users' experiences in Botswana. Also used is the Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD) methodology with a specific method known as Rapid Application Development (RAD), which enables the researchers to develop software prototypes for Children quickly -Parents Immunisation Alert, License Examination Booking System, and End-user query register as a consequent of the survey conducted that identified these applications as urgently needed to turn around the service delivery and improve on ICT access across the country. The local software developed in this research is expected to boost economic activities and provides a platform for users to adequately utilize the facilities and thus turn the ICT project of Botswana into the type that benefits its populace and creates employment for its youth.

Les réseaux 5G sont envisagés comme un changement de paradigme vers des réseaux orientés services. Dans cette thèse, nous étudions comment combiner efficacement le découpage en tranches et le SD-RAN afin de fournir le niveau requis de flexibilité et de programmabilité dans l'infrastructure RAN pour réaliser des réseaux multi-locataires orientés services. Premièrement, nous concevons une abstraction d'une station de base pour représenter les stations de base logiques et décrire un service de réseau virtualisé. Deuxièmement, nous proposons une nouvelle plateforme SD-RAN conforme aux normes, appelée FlexRIC, sous la forme d'un kit de développement logiciel (SDK). Troisièmement, nous fournissons une conception modulaire pour un cadre d'ordonnancement MAC tenant compte des tranches afin de gérer et de contrôler efficacement les ressources radio dans un environnement multiservice avec un support de qualité de service (QoS). 5G networks are envisioned to be a paradigm shift towards service-oriented networks. In this thesis, we investigate how to efficiently combine slicing and SD-RAN to provide the required level of flexibility and programmability in the RAN infrastructure to realize service-oriented multi-tenant networks. First, we devise an abstraction of a base station to represent logical base stations and describe a virtualized network service. Second, we propose a novel standard-compliant SD-RAN platform, named FlexRIC, in the form of a software development kit (SDK). Third, we provide a modular design for a slice-aware MAC scheduling framework to efficiently manage and control the radio resources in a multi-service environment with quality-of-service (QoS) support. Finally, we present a dynamic SD-RAN virtualization layer based on the FlexRIC SDK and MAC scheduling framework to flexibly compose a multi-service SD-RAN infrastructure and provide programmability for multiple SD-RAN controllers

In this chapter, the authors propose a Cloud service ranking system, named CloudRank, based on both the user feedback and service testing. In CloudRank, we design a new ranking-oriented collaborative filtering (CF) approach named WSRank, in which user preferences are modeled as personal rankings derived from user QoS ratings on services to address service quality predication problem. Different from the existing similar approaches, WSRank firstly presents a QoS model which allows users to express their preferences flexibly while providing combination of multiple QoS properties to give an overall rating to a service. Secondly, it measures the similarity among users based on the correlation of their rankings of services rather than the rating values. Nevertheless, it is neither accurate nor sufficient to rank Cloud services merely based on users’ feedbacks, as there are many problems such as cold-start problem, absence of user feedback, even some service faults occurred in a service workflow, so to get an accurate ranking, an active service QoS testing and fault location approach is required together with WSRank. Therefore, in CloudRank, the authors also designed an automated testing prototype named WSTester to collect real QoS information of services. WSTester integrates distributed computers to construct a virtual testing environment for Web service testing and deploys test tasks onto distributed computers efficiently.

Change is an integral part of any software system. Predicting the impact of making changes through techniques of change impact analysis helps engineers identify and analyze those parts of the system that will be potentially affected by requested change(s). This chapter presents a semi-automated approach to (a) compute likelihood of impacted functions in a system through identification and analysis of functional dependencies between them and (b) assist software engineers in selective regression testing. This technique first classifies the impact set data into two categories based on their type of impact propagation. Next it performs prioritization on classified data to rank functions into higher and lower levels according to the degree of impact they will make. This prediction will help in lowering maintenance cost and effort of software engineers. Thus, a software engineer can first run those test cases which cover segments with higher impacted priority to minimize regression test selection.

Embedded systems are supporting the trend of moving away from centralised, high-cost products towards low-cost and high-volume products; yet, the non-functional constraints and the device heterogeneity can lead to system complexity. In this regard, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is the best methodology for developing a loosely coupled, dynamic, flexible, distributed, and cost-effective application. SOA relies heavily on services, and the Semantic Web, as the advanced form of the Web, handles the application complexity and heterogeneity with the help of ontology. With an ever-increasing number of similar Web services in UDDI, a functional description of Web services is not sufficient for the discovery process. It is also difficult to rank the similar services based on their functionality. Therefore, the Quality of Service (QoS) description of Web services plays an important role in ranking services within many similar functional services. Context-awareness has been widely studied in embedded and real-time systems and can also play an important role in service ranking as an additional set of criteria. In addition, it can enhance human-computer interaction with the help of ontologies in distributed and heterogeneous environments. In order to address the issues involved in ranking similar services based on the QoS and context-awareness, the authors propose a service discovery framework for distributed embedded real-time systems in this chapter. The proposed framework considers user priorities, QoS, and the context-awareness to enable the user to select the best service among many functional similar services.

Embedded systems are supporting the trend of moving away from centralised, high-cost products towards low-cost and high-volume products; yet, the non-functional constraints and the device heterogeneity can lead to system complexity. In this regard, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is the best methodology for developing a loosely coupled, dynamic, flexible, distributed, and cost-effective application. SOA relies heavily on services, and the Semantic Web, as the advanced form of the Web, handles the application complexity and heterogeneity with the help of ontology. With an ever-increasing number of similar Web services in UDDI, a functional description of Web services is not sufficient for the discovery process. It is also difficult to rank the similar services based on their functionality. Therefore, the Quality of Service (QoS) description of Web services plays an important role in ranking services within many similar functional services. Context-awareness has been widely studied in embedded and real-time systems and can also play an important role in service ranking as an additional set of criteria. In addition, it can enhance human-computer interaction with the help of ontologies in distributed and heterogeneous environments. In order to address the issues involved in ranking similar services based on the QoS and context-awareness, the authors propose a service discovery framework for distributed embedded real-time systems in this chapter. The proposed framework considers user priorities, QoS, and the context-awareness to enable the user to select the best service among many functional similar services.

DemaWare is a Service-Oriented platform that aids in the timely assessment and monitoring of people with dementia in an Ambient Assisted Living context. This work presents in detail the underlying modules integrated in DemaWare, providing both software and hardware services. The system coordinates the retrieval of raw sensor data from a variety of sources, such as ambient and wearable sensors, and their processing into a common knowledge base. The semantic interpretation performed afterwards reasons upon collected knowledge and infers higher level observations. Finally, all knowledge is presented in suitable end-user applications that support various scenarios, e.g. lab assessment trials and monitoring in nursing home environments.

Анотація:
This paper analyze techniques to implement QoS/QoE on multi-tenant 5G networks. Describes the ar- chitecture of the next generation mobile network based on cloud-enabled small cell deployments and also proposes an hybrid-cloud solution coexisting with centralized cloud RAN(C-RAN), in order to achieve a gradual implementation of the technology. In this context, the work here presented deals with the challenges of preserving the quality of ex- perience in a multi-tenant cloud enable RAN bearing in mind the Key Performance Indicator(KPI) agreed in the SLA. To achieve this goal, QoS should be managed at different levels of the architecture. Feedback should be given between learning modules in order to analyze the results and infer enhanced decision rules which may conclude in an architecture replacement.

El presente texto es producto de un proyecto más grande que surge de la alianza entre la Universidad Católica de Pereira y el Instituto Colombiano de Bienestar Familiar (ICBF). Para entender el presente trabajo, en primer lugar se debe entender que entre las modalidades institucionales existentes del ICBF, se encuentra la denominación hogar infantil. Lugar donde niños de familias vulnerables, desplazadas o con necesidad de ayuda al infante, se reúnen para fortalecer el servicio de educación inicial. El objetivo de estos jardines es acompañar a los niños en los procesos de desarrollo integral, monitorear su nutrición y gestionar la promoción de los derechos humanos dentro de la institución. En la ciudad de Pereira, Risaralda, ubicada en la región centro-occidente del país, se encuentra la comuna oriente, dentro de ella se encuentra el Hogar Infantil Kennedy donde asisten niños, docentes, psicólogos y su coordinadora.

This work presents the results of ongoing investigations aimed at determining the influence of crystallographic texture, microtexture and mesotexture on hydrogen induced cracking (HIC) in low carbon pipeline steels. HIC samples of two steels were investigated using X-ray diffraction texture measurement and Orientation Imaging Microscopy (OIM™). The first steel is a low strength API 5L X46 retired from service and the second is a low sulfur ASTM A106 steel. The results of this work confirm the feasibility of improving the HIC resistance of pipeline steels through crystallographic texture control and grain boundary engineering. Controlled rolling schedules can be proposed in order to induce a crystallographic texture dominated by the {112}//ND, {111}//ND and {011}//ND fibres. Such a texture is expected to decrease significantly the steel susceptibility to HIC by: (i) reducing the number of available transgranular and intergranular low resistance cleavage paths provided by the {001}//ND oriented grains, (ii) reducing the probability of crack coalescence and stepwise HIC propagation and (iii) increasing the number of high resistance intergranular crack paths provided by coincidence site lattice (CSL) and low angle boundaries with the lowest possible energy.

Failure analysis performed on SA-335, Grade P1, Carbon-1/2Molybdenum (P1) steel pipe confirmed that failure in cold-formed bends was due to graphitization, but revealed that the graphite had developed in the affected material in a manner that has received little attention in the technical literature. In particular, the graphite developed in arrays of small micro-nodules preferentially concentrated within grain boundaries that were oriented normal to the hoop stress. The failure in question occurred after approximately 275,000 hours of operation at an average operating temperature of approximately 830F. Because of the preferential alignment of the graphitization, the material toughness in the tangential (hoop) direction was significantly degraded. While there is ample documentation of graphitization in P1 material after prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures, the observed morphology of volumetric grain boundary graphitization is very unusual. In response to this unique form of graphitization, cryo-cracking, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction were carried out to confirm that the small nodular “particles” within the grain boundaries were in fact graphite and not some other type of material contamination. Mechanical tests were also performed to assess the degree of material degradation, and the results have been compared to the damage levels observed in metallographic samples using a five-level damage ranking system developed for the purpose of surveying the multiple bends involved in the study. Many of the same factors that in previous studies have been identified as important influences on the formation of graphite in steel were observed in the samples examined as part of this failure analysis. These included the original steel making practice (i.e., high levels of aluminum), the original forming process (i.e., cold bending), and the service conditions (i.e., time and temperature).

Abstract This paper discusses the Integrated Role of Geomechanics and Drilling Fluids Design for drilling a well oriented towards the minimum horizontal stress direction in a depleted, yet highly stressed and complex clastic reservoir. There are multiple challenges related to such a well that need to be addressed during the planning phase. In this case, the well needs to be drilled towards the minimum horizontal stress direction (Shmin) to benefit multi-stage hydraulic fracturing. At the same time, the most prominent challenge is that this well orientation is more prone to wellbore failure and requires a maximum mud weight, due to the present strike slip stress environment. Well planning challenges in such an environment include (a) the determination of formation characteristics and rock properties, (b) the anticipation of higher formation collapse pressure during the course of drilling the lateral section within the reservoir, (c) the determination of the upper bound mud weight to prevent lost circulation due to a low fracture gradient against depleted sections, or due to the presence of pre-existing natural fractures, d) mitigating the higher risk of differential sticking against depleted porous layers, and determining appropriate bridging in the drilling fluids, (e) recognizing the prolonged exposure time of the formation due to the length of the lateral and the lower rate of penetration against the tight highly dense formations. For successful drilling, and to mitigate the above risks, the first step is to prepare a predrill GeoMechanical model along with adequate fluid design and drillers action plans to be considered during drilling. Offset well petrophysical logs and core data are considered for the preparation of the predrill GeoMechanical model, along with the drilling experiences in the offset locations. Based on the above, a predrill GeoMechanical model is prepared, a risk matrix is being established, and a representative mud weight window is recommended (Wellbore Stability Analysis). In most cases, the offset well locations considered are vertical- or inclined-, or lateral wells of different trajectory azimuth than the target well location and the predrill GeoMechanical model can incorporate such variations easily; however, any Geology uncertainty, leading to a different rock property- and stress set-up (or even different pore pressure than expected), at the actual well location will be part of the uncertainty of the predrill GeoMechanical model and Wellbore Stability Analysis. This is where the real time monitoring is playing out its full potential: giving an updated model and wellbore stability analysis during drilling. While drilling the lateral section, the wellbore condition is being monitored using LWD (logging while drilling) tools, e.g. Gamma Ray, Density, Neutron, Acoustic Caliper, Azimuthal density image and ECD (equivalent circulating density). While gamma ray helps in determining the lithology, density logs help to understand the formation hardness, and they can be used to generate a calibrated pseudo acoustic log. Based on this pseudo acoustic log, the rock strength and other rock mechanical properties of the pre- GeoMechanical model can be updated as soon as they become available. This gives insight into the model differences and helps to understand model variations and adjust Wellbore Stability recommendations accordingly. While the neutron log helps to determine the zones of high porosity, and thus potential risk zones for differential sticking, the azimuthal density image clearly indicates the breakout zones caused by the shear failure of the wellbore. The presence of wellbore failure (breakout) is further confirmed by acoustic caliper data, and accordingly wellbore stability related recommendations are communicated to the operator, for an increase in the specific gravity of the mud, and thus, to balance the wellbore. From a mud rheology perspective, high performance OBM (oil-based mud) parameters are maintained consistent with the formation properties, to minimize fluid loss, optimize wellbore strengthening characteristics and minimize at the same time solids concentrations in order to avoid excessive ECD (equivalent circulating density) which may open pre-existing natural fractures resulting in downhole losses and in consequence might lead to differential sticking. In the case study presented herein, the proactive implementation of GeoMechanics and its Wellbore Stability application as well as the integration of drilling fluids services, resulted in the smooth and successful drilling of the lateral section, and also in the delivery of an in gauge hole necessary for multi-stage fracturing (MSF) completion optimization.
