Measurements of the turbulent flow field through a highly staggered cascade propulsor configuration in the Virginia Tech cascade wind tunnel have been taken. Predictions of the same flow using Rapid Distortion Theory (RDT) were performed. Measurements and predictions were compared. The comparison was oriented to check the aptness of RDT in describing this kind of flow. Since this study represents the initial steps of a major project, the RDT model was kept simple. The non-penetration condition (blade blocking effect) was not modeled and the viscous effects were roughly accounted for. This work reveals the capabilities of RDT in predicting the development of turbulence convected through a highly staggered cascade propulsor configuration formed by non-symmetrical airfoils. Web services technology has lately stirred tremendous interest in industry as well as the academia. Web services are self-contained, platform independent functionality which is available over the internet. Web services are defined, discovered & accessed using a standard protocols like WSDL, UDDI & SOAP. With the advent of Service-Oriented Architecture and need for more complex application, it became eminent to have a way in which these independent entities could collaborate in a coherent manner to provide a high level functionality. But the problem of service composition is not an easy one. One reason being the self-contained and loosely coupled interaction style, which happens to be the single most important reason for its popularity. We are proposing a prototype system for distributed coordination of web services. This system is based on the Web Bonds model for coordination. The system, dubbed BondFlow system, allows configuration and execution of workflows configured over web services. Presently BondFlow system allows both centralized as well as distributed coordination of workflows over handhelds, which we claim as an engineering feet and is currently a unique work in this area.

Os reatores UASB (upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactors) foram um marco histórico no tratamento de efluentes ao propiciar alta retenção de sólidos e boa mistura entre biomassa e afluente. Apesar de os reatores com a concepção original dos UASB serem usados com sucesso em muitas estações de tratamento de esgoto, algumas questões relacionadas a sua operação, construção e manutenção ainda prevalecem. Sendo assim, novas configurações baseadas na concepção tradicional de reatores de manta de lodo podem simbolizar novas tentativas para sanar essas questões. Neste contexto, uma configuração que emprega manta de lodo, objetivando principalmente a eliminação dos separadores trifásicos e adoção mistura com jatos, é aqui proposta, almejando simplificar a distribuição/mistura do esgoto afluente. A pesquisa foi, assim, realizada primeiramente em escala de bancada para determinar do gradiente de velocidade médio necessário para suspensão de sólidos, resultando em valores favoráveis de até 20 s-1. Na segunda fase, uma instalação piloto de 2,69 m3, construída em acrílico, foi utilizada para o estudo das características do jato e dos bocais, e do regime de mistura proporcionado pelo mesmo. Com auxílio das informações obtidas na primeira e segunda fases, a terceira fase do experimento abrangeu a reforma de um reator UASB tradicional, em escala piloto de 20,8 m3, para a implantação desse novo sistema de tratamento: removeram-se os sistemas para coleta de gases e de distribuição de fundo e implantou-se alimentação intermitente por meio de jatos, além de unidade de decantador de alta taxa. Em essência, o novo sistema foi dividido em duas zonas distintas: uma para as reações e outra provida de decantação laminar para a remoção de sólidos suspensos. Na primeira zona, a entrada de esgoto sanitário deu-se por meio de bocal que proporcionou jato para mistura da manta de lodo através da carga manométrica fornecida por reservatório elevado. A velocidade de entrada no reator e o alcance do jato puderam ser determinados, constatando-se que o número de pontos de entrada no reator pode ser reduzido (em relação ao número de pontos recomendados tradicionalmente: 2 a 4 m2, por ponto). O gradiente de velocidade aplicado durante cada jato (com 30 segundos de duração) foi de 16,6 s-1. Para o reator da terceira fase, na fase estável da operação, obteve-se eficiência de remoção de 52,79%, 70,90 % e 47,00% para DQO, DBO e SST, respectivamente. Adicionalmente, avaliou-se o uso de filtro rápido de camada única de areia para o pós-tratamento do efluente do reator anaeróbio, cujas remoções de DQO, SST e Turbidez (para taxa de aplicação de 100 m3.m-2.dia-1) foram de 54,94%, 84,44% e 81,71% respectivamente. Concluiu-se, desta forma, a viabilidade da operação do reator de manta de lodo com alimentação intermitente e sem necessidade de instalação do sistema separador trifásico.<br>In spite of reactors with the original design of UASB are successfully used in many wastewater treatment plants, some issues regarding the operation, construction and maintenance of these reactors still prevail. Thus, new configurations based on the traditional conception of sludge blanket reactors may signify new tries to solve these issues. In this context, this research proposes a new configuration, using sludge blanket, mainly aiming at the elimination of the three-phase separators and adoption of a mixture through jets in order to simplify distribution / mixing of the influent. Therefore firstly a bench scale study was conducted to determine the required average velocity gradient for suspension of solids, resulting in favorable values up to 20 s-1. In the second phase, a 2.69 m3 pilot plant was built in acrylic to study the characteristics of the jet and the nozzles, and the resulting mixing state. After this stage, and with the contribution of information obtained in the earlier stages, a traditional pilotscale UASB reactor of 20.8 m3 was adapted for the implementation of this new treatment system: the systems for gas collection and distribution of background were removed, and a high-rate sedimentation unit and intermittently feed through jets were introduced. In essence, the new system has been divided into two distinct zones: one for reactions and other provided of laminar decantation to remove suspended solids. In the reaction zone the entry of sewage was given through jet for mixing the sludge blanket. The mixing energy was provided by jet stemmed on an elevated tank, where the sewer was accumulated. The jet range and entry velocity into the reactor could be determined, noting that the number of entry points in the reactor can be reduced (relative to the number of points traditionally recommended: 2 to 4 m2 per point). The velocity gradient applied during each jet (with a 30 seconds duration) was 16.6 s-1. The pilot-scale reactor (third phase), in stable-phase operation, got a removal efficiency of 52.79%, 70.90% and 47.00% for COD, BOD and TSS, respectively. Additionally, were evaluated the use of unique coating rapid sand filter to the post-treatment of the effluent in the anaerobic reactor. The removals obtained for COD, TSS and Turbidity (for application rate of 100 m3.m-2.dia-1) were 54.94%, 84.44% and 81.71% respectively. It was concluded, therefore, the viability of the sludge blanket reactor operation with intermittent feed and without threephase separator system installation.

Dans un code lagrangien, chaque corps est modelise separement. Un algorithme de contact est utilise, a chaque temps, pour traiter leur interaction et fournir des conditions limites pour la resolution du systeme d'equations differentielles. Cette etude inclut le frottement. Le probleme de contact peut etre considere comme une minimisation d'energie sous contrainte. Nous utilisons une methode de lagrangien augmente associe a un algorithme d'uzawa pour resoudre iterativement le systeme. La condition de glissement ou d'adherence est obtenue a l'aide de la methode trialstate-return mapping. Cet algorithme tient compte des conditions thermodynamiques. Il est valide, sur le code ouranos, en 1d, 2d, 3d. La 2de partie de cette these est consacree a la construction de schemas les variables non conservatrices pour resoudre les equations s'ecrivant sous forme non conservatives. Nous utilisons le cadre mathematique construit par j. F. Colombeau, pour construire des projections appropriees.

У дисертації наведено теоретичне узагальнення і нове вирішення наукової проблеми, що полягає в розвитку теорії організації обробки інформації в комп’ютерних системах на ПЛІС з урахуванням їх функціональних та апаратурних обмежень. Запропоновані методи та засоби включають в себе взаємозв’язані вирішення завдань оптимізації процесу обробки інформації шляхом визначення оптимальної зернистості обчислень, а також зменшення накладних витрат процесу відображення задач на реконфігуровне обчислювальне середовище, що в цілому забезпечує підвищення ефективності обробки інформації в реконфігуровних обчислювальних системах на ПЛІС. Запропоновано нову стратегію взаємної адаптації розв’язуваних задач і обчислювального середовища на ПЛІС, що ґрунтується на варіюванні зернистістю обчислень під час розв’язання задач великої розмірності, та вдосконалено концепцію реалізації локальних розподілених засобів керування відображенням задач на реконфігуровне обчислювальне середовище, що підвищує ефективність врахування фізичних параметрів кристалів ПЛІС на всіх рівнях реалізації реконфігуровних комп’ютерних систем.

Le soudage à électrode réfractaire, plus souvent appelé TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), est un procédé dans lequel un arc électrique est généré entre une électrode en tungstène et les pièces à souder sous un flux gazeux inerte. Le transfert d'énergie entre l'arc et l'anode donne naissance à un bain métallique et à la production de vapeurs. La qualité des soudures obtenues est directement liée au comportement du plasma et aux phénomènes physiques présents dans le bain métallique (effets Marangoni, force de traînée, gravité, forces de Laplace, conduction thermique...). L'objectif de ces travaux de thèse est de mettre en place des méthodes de diagnostic permettant une meilleure compréhension des mécanismes impliqués dans le transfert d'énergie lors de l'interaction arc-matériau sur une configuration de soudage TIG. Il s'agit également d'évaluer et d'analyser l'influence de certains paramètres opératoires impliqués dans le procédé (nature du gaz, intensité du courant, longueur de l'arc...) sur ces mécanismes. Plusieurs axes de recherche ont été dégagés : - l'étude de la colonne plasma pour estimer sa température selon les paramètres opératoires utilisés ; - l'étude de l'interface arc-liquide pour la compréhension des phénomènes de brassage et d'écoulement dans le liquide ainsi que l'influence des vapeurs métalliques issues de l'érosion du matériau sur le plasma ; - l'étude du matériau après son interaction avec l'arc pour faire le lien entre le brassage dans le bain durant le procédé et les caractéristiques de la zone fondue observée après solidification. L'équipe Arc Électrique et Procédés Plasmas Thermiques (AEPPT) du laboratoire LAPLACE s'intéresse à ces phénomènes d'interaction arc-matériau par le biais de la modélisation et de l'expérience. Un modèle 3D a été récemment développé au sein de notre équipe sur cette thématique. La caractérisation expérimentale du procédé devrait permettre également d'apporter des éléments de validation aux modèles déjà existants<br>TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding process is achieved by the creation of an electric arc between a tungsten cathode and a piece of metal. This process uses a shielding gas as argon, helium or mixtures at atmospheric pressure. The heat transfer between the arc and the work piece leads to a metallic weld pool and metallic vapours production. Weld quality is related to the plasma behavior and the molten zone motion (Marangoni force, Laplace force, drag force and gravity...).during the process. The aim of this work is to develop diagnostic methods leading to a better understanding of mechanisms involved in heat transfer in TIG welding. The aim is also to evaluate the influence of different experimental conditions (gaz nature, current intensity, arc length...) on theses mechanisms. Several lines of research were defined: - the study of the plasma temperature under different experimental conditions; - the study of the arc-liquid interface to understand the weld pool flow behavior and the impact of metallic vapor on the arc plasma ; - the study of the work piece after interaction to determine the dimension of the melted zone and link it to the flow behavior during the process. Arc-material interaction phenomena can be studied through modeling and experience. A 3D model has recently been designed in our team. The experimental characterization of the process developed in this work should provide a set of data to validate it

The objective of this thesis was to study problems of an insufficient database processing performance and possibilities how to improve the performance with database configuration file optimizations, more powerful hardware and parallel processing. The master thesis contains a description of relational databases, storage media and different forms of parallelism with its use in database systems. There is a description of the developed software for testing database performance. The program was used for testing several database configuration files, various hardware, different database systems (PostgreSQL, Oracle) and advantages of parallel method "partitioning". Test reports and evaluation results are described at the end of the thesis.

博士<br>國立交通大學<br>電機與控制工程系<br>88<br>Rapid thermal processing (RTP) has become an alternative to the traditional furnace-based batch processing in semiconductor manufacturing processes such as annealing, nitridation and oxidation. We study design of temperature control system and lamp configuration for RTP systems. We consider a configuration consists of four concentric circular lamp zones, three of them above the wafer and one circumvallating the wafer. We propose a method to determine the geometric parameters, the width, height and radius, of the lamp zones so that the configuration designed has the capacity to achieve uniform temperature on the wafer. The method is based on a necessary and sufficient condition for uniform temperature tracking and analytic expressions of the view factors. For the designed lamp configuration, we proposes a control system consisting of a least square feedforward controller and an output feedback proportional plus integral (PI) controller. A high-order nonlinear model describing the temperature dynamics of the RTP system is used for the feedforward controller design. A balanced reduced model, obtained from a linear model around a desired uniform steady-state temperature, is used for the design of the MIMO PI controller. The PI controller gain matrices are designed using an LQR based procedure. Tradeoff between robustness and performance of the system is discussed. Simulation results show the control system designed yields robust temperature tracking with good uniformity for a wide temperature range. Past studies rarely investigate on the linkage of top management team (TMT) experience configuration and growth of small and medium sized enterprises. This study applies upper echelons theory and configuration theory and utilizes fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis(fsQCA) to find out what TMT experience configuration are sufficient conditions for rapid growth of small and medium sized enterprises post the global financial crisis. This study focuses on the electronic connector industry in Taiwan. The case firms of this study consist of 3 firms with rapid growth and 3 firms with slow or no growth after the global financial crisis. This study includes two-phases. In the first phase, case study research was used to explore what factors may influence the growth of small and medium sized enterprises; In the second phase, fsQCA was applied to identify important TMT experience configurations which are sufficient configurations for rapid growth of small and medium sized enterprises. The result of this study indicates that ‘TMT with high functional diversity’, ‘TMT with high education diversity in terms of curriculum’, ‘more TMT members with relevant experience’, ‘CEO with technical background’, ‘chairman of board also acting as CEO’, and ‘ratio of management team members with MBA degree’ are important factors among configurations leading to rapid growth of small and medium sized enterprises. Among the factors, ‘chairman of board also acting as CEO’ and ‘ratio of management team members with MBA degree’ are substitutive to each other. For young enterprises, ‘venture capital support’ is important. However, ‘venture capital support’ and ‘chairman of board also acting as CEO’ may impede the rapid growth potential for mature small and medium sized enterprises. Moreover, this study suggests 3 configurations, which sufficiently explain the rapid growth of small and medium sized enterprises. The 3 configurations are ‘new ventures with exploration-oriented management teams’, ‘new ventures with exploitation-oriented management teams’, and ‘mature firms with exploration-oriented management team’. This study not only fills out research gaps on the TMT experience configuration and growth of small and medium sized enterprises but also provides directions for practice and future research on growth of small and medium sized enterprises.

What does it mean when traditional Chinese medicine says the words such as “liver”、“heart”、“spleen”、“lung” and “kidney”？As we know, the theory of Zangxiang in traditional Chinese medicine is quite different from the knowledge of physiology in modern medicine. In Huangdi’s Neijing of Medicine, there are many descriptions about the theory. The theory of Zangxiang is based on the study of the viscera, and the viscera in the theory of Zangxiang is not only a simple anatomical conception, but also a conception that generalizes the physiology and pathology of a certain system in the human world。 In 《Suwen．Ling-lan-mih-dean-luenn》,the functions of the twelve viscera and the relationships between them are mentioned and the author uses the twelve government officials to compare to the twelve viscera, but, this political metaphor seems quite difficult to be understood by the people living in modern times. Because the description in 《Suwen．Ling-lan-mih-dean-luenn》is brief and concise, most clinical Chinese medical doctors do not pay much attention to it. In this study, we tried to find out the relationship between Network configuration patterns of rapid transit system and transportation demand characteristics in order to know the physiological functions of the twelve Jing Luo in the human world traditional Chinese medicine .

Owing to the complicated and extensive context about network configuration patterns of rapid transit system, the study is tried to analyze network configuration patterns of rapid transit system in the main cities of world and to classify several major patterns in order to compare their difference. Moreover, the study collects network configuration patterns of rapid transit system, urban population, and transportation demand characters in the main cities of world to model the regression equation for understanding their relationship. Finally, based on the developed model and the principle inferences, it is applied to six metropolitan areas in Taiwan for understanding the planning about the rapid transit system, and providing suggestions for the institution of government.
