Анотація:
This study examined the influence of the sales managers supervisory style on the role clarity and job satisfaction of a group of full-time real estate salespeople. The results show that the salespersons self-esteem, need for role clarity, experience, and self-perceived performance moderate the relationship between supervisory behavior and salespeoples job attitudes. Real estate salespeople have more positive job attitudes when the sales manager is supportive of their behavior rather than when the sales manager tries to structure their jobs.

Анотація:
Hadoop merupakan sebuah framework software yang bersifat open source dan berbasis java. Hadoop terdiri atas dua komponen utama, yaitu MapReduce dan Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS). MapReduce terdiri atas Map dan Reduce yang digunakan untuk pemrosesan data, sementara HDFS adalah tempat atau direktori dimana data hadoop dapat disimpan. Dalam menjalankan job yang tidak jarang terdapat keragaman karakteristik eksekusinya, diperlukan job scheduler yang tepat. Terdapat banyak job scheduler yang dapat di pilih supaya sesuai dengan karakteristik job. Fair Scheduler menggunakan salah satu scheduler dimana prisnsipnya memastikan suatu jobs akan mendapatkan resource yang sama dengan jobs yang lain, dengan tujuan meningkatkan performa dari segi Average Completion Time. Hadoop Fair Sojourn Protocol Scheduler adalah sebuah algoritma scheduling dalam Hadoop yang dapat melakukan scheduling berdasarkan ukuran jobs yang diberikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat perbandingan performa kedua scheduler tersebut untuk karakteristik data twitter. Hasil pengujian menunjukan Hadoop Fair Sojourn Protocol Scheduler memiliki performansi lebih baik dibandingkan Fair Scheduler baik dari penanganan average completion time sebesar 9,31% dan job throughput sebesar 23,46%. Kemudian untuk Fair Scheduler unggul dalam parameter task fail rate sebesar 23,98%.

Real-time systems require a-priori temporal guarantees. While most of the normal operation in such a system is modeled using time-driven, hard-deadline sporadic tasks, event-driven behavior is modeled using aperiodic jobs with soft or no deadlines. To provide good Quality-of- Service for aperiodic jobs in the presence of sporadic tasks, aperiodic servers were introduced. Aperiodic servers act as a sporadic task and reserve a quota periodically to serve aperiodic jobs. The use of aperiodic servers in systems with caches is unsafe because aperiodic servers do not take into account, the indirect cache-related preemption delays that the execution of aperiodic jobs might impose on the lower-priority sporadic tasks, thus jeopardizing their safety. To solve this problem, we propose an enhancement to the aperiodic server that we call a Cache Delay Server. Here, each lower-priority sporadic task is assigned a delay quota to accommodate the cache-related preemption delay imposed by the execution of aperiodic jobs. Aperiodic jobs are allowed to execute at their assigned server priority only when all the active lower-priority sporadic tasks have a sufficient delay quota to accommodate it. Simulation results demonstrate that a Cache Delay Server ensures the safety of sporadic tasks while providing acceptable Quality-of-Service for aperiodic jobs. We propose a Integer Linear Program based approach to calculate delay quotas for sporadic tasks within a task set where Cache Delay Servers have been pre-assigned. We then propose algorithms to determine Cache Delay Server characteristics for a given sporadic task set. Finally, we extend the Cache Delay Server concept to multi-core architectures and propose approaches to schedule aperiodic jobs on appropriate Cache Delay Servers. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of all our proposed algorithms in improving aperiodic job response times while maintaining the safety of sporadic task execution.

This thesis presents a teaching job shop control system for running in assembly laboratories at colleges and universities in preparing Industrial Engineering students for challenges faced in real-world factories. Current techniques fail to encompass this idea of training for students like the proposed method does. Microsoft Access was used in creating a database that is the center point in this new system. Inventory is managed using this database system and added if parts are created in the manufacturing lab and moved to the assembly area. The system will stop if parts are low until new parts are created. In this new system, a pallet with an unfinished product on it moves down a conveyor system until it reaches the next workstation. At this station, the station operator scans a barcode on the pallet. This barcode contains what product is on this pallet. Based on this information, an ordered list of tasks appears on the workstation computer screen and must be done before the pallet can be moved on. When all tasks have been completed at a station, the station operator clicks ?done? on the screen and then can either move to the next pallet or end the run. Statistics are kept on the quality of the final products and parts as well as a work-in-process and on a goal percentage of good products out at the end of a one-hour time frame. Administrators will be able to assign tasks and parts to products and stations, as well as be able assign the goal ahead of time.

Embedded/real-time systems are becoming ubiquitous in today's world and their pervasive nature is increasing with the advent of cyber-physical systems. Providing temporal guarantees is paramount in such systems. Most of the normal operation in real-time systems is modelled using periodic tasks. Event-driven behaviour is modelled using aperiodic jobs. To ensure an acceptable Quality of Service for aperiodic jobs without jeopardizing safety of periodic tasks, aperiodic servers were introduced [2], [3]. Aperiodic servers are used to reserve a quota for the execution of aperiodic jobs. However, they do not take into account, cache-related delays that the execution of aperiodic jobs could impose on periodic tasks, thereby making their use in systems with caches unsafe. In this thesis, we introduce Cache Related Delay Servers to solve this problem. Statically, every periodic task's worst-case execution time includes a pre-determined delay quota for delay caused by aperiodic jobs. During system operation, the aperiodic server is allowed to execute only if periodic jobs that may be affected by it have sufficient delay quota to accommodate its execution. Otherwise, the priority of the aperiodic server is temporarily decreased to the level of the lowest-priority periodic job with insufficient quota, thereby ensuring safe execution of periodic tasks.

Анотація:
The Shortest Job First algorithm gives the optimal average turnaround time for a set of processes, but it suffers from starvation for long processes. Starvation occurs when a long process is denied processor resources because the resources are occupied by short processes, thus, causing the long process to potentially never finish its task. This thesis considers that the short processes are soft real time processes. It presents the designer with a choice to select an algorithm that provides close to optimal average turnaround time within the soft deadline for short processes as compared to the Shortest Job First algorithm which results in decreased average turnaround time for long processes. The proposed algorithm improves drawback, related to long job starvation, in Preemptive-Shortest Job First by providing protection to a process through prioritization. A priority is assigned to a process based on a percentage of its burst time to completion, by introducing the parameter Theta, or the time spent by the process in the waiting queue, by introducing the parameter Lambda. Theta protects a current running process from being preempted when its execution time reaches a percentage of its total computing time. Lambda gives priority to a process when it exceeds a certain amount of time in the waiting queue. Four variants of the proposed scheduling methodology, each using a different theta and lambda, have been developed. The performances of these variants are compared against Highest Response Ratio Next (HRRN), Railroad, Enhanced Shortest Job First (ESJF), and Alpha scheduling algorithms that have been previously proposed. Experimental results show that our proposed algorithm performs better in terms of reducing the average turnaround time of the long processes while maintaining the turnaround time on the short processes at low desired levels, as those required for soft real time tasks.

Procedimentos de busca local (ex. busca tabu) e algoritmos genéticos têm apresentado excelentes resultados em problemas clássicos de programação da produção em ambientes job shop. No entanto, estas abordagens apresentam pobres habilidades de modelamento e poucas aplicações com restrições de ambientes reais de produção têm sido publicadas. Além disto, os espaços de busca considerados nestas aplicações são nomlalmente incompletos e as restrições reais são poucas e dependentes do problema em questão. Este trabalho apresenta uma abordagem genética híbrida para resolver problemas de programação em ambientes job shop com grande número de restrições reais, tais como produtos com vários níveis de submontagem, planos de processamento altemativos para componentes e recursos alternativos para operações, exigência de vários recursos para executar uma operação (ex., máquina, ferramentas, operadores), calendários para todos os recursos, sobreposição de operações, restrições de disponibilidade de matéria-prima e componentes comprados de terceiros, e tempo de setup dependente da sequência de operações. A abordagem também considera funções de avaliação multiobjetivas. O sistema usa algoritmos modificados de geração de programação, que incorporam várias heurísticas de apoio à decisão, para obter um conjunto de soluções iniciais. Cada solução inicial é melhorada por um algoritmo de subida de encosta. Então, um algoritmo genético híbrido com procedimentos de busca local é aplicado ao conjunto inicial de soluções localmente ótimas. Ao utilizar técnicas de programação de alta perfomlance (heurísticas construtivas, procedimentos de busca local e algoritmos genéticos) em problemas reais de programação da produção, este trabalho reduziu o abismo existente entre a teoria e a prática da programação da produção.

Анотація:
With an increased globalization and flexibility of the labor market, the views and values of work have changed. The purpose of this study is to examine attitudes towards what defines a real job, based on parameters such as generational affiliation, level of education and form of employment. Furthermore, the study examines if precarious work is perceived as real jobs. The study has taken its starting point in Adam Smith’s Labor Theory of Value and Guy Standing’s description of the Precariat. The study has been implemented through a quantitative method, where questionnaires were used to collect data. These questionnaires were shared via social media. The collected material was analyzed using correlation measurements and cross-tabulations. The results of the study show that there is a difference among the generations' attitudes towards what constitutes the definition of a real job. The majority of the younger generation that had been consulted did not agree with that the working conditions listed in the questionnaire were essential for a job to be defined as real. As precarious work seldom includes the conditions referred to in the question formulated in this study, it can be concluded that the younger generation seems to perceive precarious work as real jobs. The result showed that level of education and form of employment affected each generations’ attitude towards what aspects should be included in the definition of a real job.
Genom ökad globalisering och flexibilitet på arbetsmarknaden har synen på och värderingar av vad ett arbete är ändrats. Syftet är, att bland respondenterna i studien, undersöka inställningen till vad som bör inkluderas i definitionen av ett riktigt arbete, med hänsyn till generationstillhörighet, utbildningsnivå och anställningsform. Undersökningen har utgått ifrån Adam Smiths teori om arbetets värde samt Guy Standings beskrivning av prekariatet. Studiens huvudsakliga frågeställning är huruvida generationstillhörighet påverkar inställningen till om kollektivavtal, huvudsaklig inkomstkälla samt meningsfullhet, bör inkluderas i definitionen av ett riktigt arbete. Vidare undersöks även om respondenternas utbildningsnivå och anställningsform kan komma att påverka dessa inställningar. Ytterligare en frågeställning i undersökningen är huruvida prekära arbeten uppfattas vara riktiga arbeten. Studien har genomförts med en kvantitativ metod där enkäter använts som datainsamling. Materialet analyserades med hjälp av sambandsmått och korstabeller. Studiens resultat visar att det finns en skillnad bland de olika generationernas inställning till vad som utgör definitionen av ett riktigt arbete. Majoriteten av de yngre i studien höll inte med om att de arbetsförhållanden som ingått i undersökningen krävdes för att ett arbete skulle definieras som ett riktigt arbete. Då prekära arbeten sällan inkluderar de aspekter som berörts i den huvudsakliga frågeställningen, kan det konkluderas att den yngre generationen uppfattar prekära arbeten som riktiga arbeten. Respondenternas utbildningsnivå eller anställningsform visade sig påverka generationernas inställning till vad som ska inkluderas i definitionen av ett riktigt arbete.

Artificial intelligence is said to be transforming the global economy and society in what some dub the “fourth industrial revolution.” This data brief analyzes media representations of AI and the alignments, or misalignments, with job postings that include the AI-related skills needed to make AI a practical reality. This potential distortion is important as the U.S. Congress places an increasing emphasis on AI. If government funds are shifted away from other areas of science and technology, based partly on the representations that leaders and the public are exposed to in the media, it is important to understand how those representations align with real jobs across the country.

This report is comprised of five substantive elements. The first is crafting a scientifically sound framework for identifying landscapes within the metropolitan areas we studied. The second is applying those Place Typologies and spatial analysis to economic and demographic change for the transit system in each metropolitan area. The third is analyzing how real estate markets respond to transit system proximity with special reference to the Place Typologies. Fourth, this is followed by specialized studies into how urban form and society are shaped by transit systems. The fifth is providing an overall perspective of our research as well as a framework for unlocking the potential to leverage economic benefits of transit to advance social well-being.

In this paper, we show that order effects operate in the context of high-stakes, real-world decisions: employment choices. We experimentally evaluate a nationwide program in Ecuador that changed the order of teaching vacancies on a job application platform in order to reduce teacher sorting (that is, lower-income students are more likely to attend schools with less qualified teachers). In the treatment arm, the platform showed hard-to-staff schools (institutions typically located in more vulnerable areas that normally have greater difficulty attracting teachers) first, while in the control group teaching vacancies were displayed in alphabetical order. In both arms, hard-to-staff schools were labeled with an icon and identical information was given to teachers. We find that a teacher in the treatment arm was more likely to apply to hard-to-staff schools, to rank them as their highest priority, and to be assigned to a job vacancy in one of these schools. The effects were not driven by inattentive, altruistic, or less-qualified teachers. The program has thus helped to reduce the unequal distribution of qualified teachers across schools of different socioeconomic backgrounds.

The COVID-19 pandemic is most notably a physical health crisis, but it strongly affects mental health as well. Social isolation, job and financial losses, uncertainty about the real impact of the crisis, and fear for physical well-being affect the mental health of many people worldwide. These stressors can increase emotional distress and lead to depression and anxiety disorders. At the same time, there are enormous challenges on the health care side. People in need of mental health support have been increasingly confronted with limitations and interruptions of mental health services in many countries. In May 2020, the United Nations already warned that the COVID-19 pandemic has the seeds of a major mental health crisis if action is not taken. The panel discussed and analysed mental health in times of the COVID-19 pandemic with reference to South Africa, Nigeria, Germany and Spain.
