In order to improve the service life of these engines, laboratory testing of the current, baseline coating and several candidate replacement coatings was initiated using a low-velocity, atmospheric-pressure burner-rig (LVBR). This paper examines the LVBR results of these high temperature coatings on Alloy 509 to determine the relative hot corrosion resistance relative to the baseline coating.

U.S. Navy surface combatants use pre-filters and filter separators in the fuel oil service system to filter out sediment and water in order to meet the fuel oil cleanliness requirements to operate the gas turbine engines and generators. The ships have reported high usage rates of the pre-filters necessitating the replacement of the pre-filter elements. High replacement rates of the elements obviously increases the burden on ships force but it also increases the operating costs due to the cost of the replacement elements and the storage, handling and disposal of the hazardous material generated

Existing test data from the Engines and Energy Conversion Laboratory and other sources are analyzed to examine the impact of retrofit technologies and operating parameters on greenhouse gas emissions. CO2, CH4, and CO2e (equivalent CO2) emissions are the focus of the study. The data analysis is focused on 4 main categories, engine performance maps, retrofit technology, uncontrolled parameters, and NOx permit level. Examination of the impact of HP replacement is also performed.
