Recently experts of the Israel police ballistic laboratory encountered a new version of the atypical firearms that is Airsoft pneumatic rifles converted for shooting cartridges of the caliber 5.56×45 mm. The Airsoft rifles are made to shoot nonmetal spherical projectiles in diameter of 6 mm. All variety Airsoft constructions can by divided into three groups: a) with spring mechanisms where the energy of compressed spring is used to produce air pressure; b) with electrical mechanisms where air pressure is provided by electrical pump; c) with mechanisms called Gas Blowback use energy of gas compressed in gas balloons. In many cases the Gas Blowback constructions of Airsoft rifle look similar to military firearms. They have similar construction of internal mechanisms. Different companies produce Airsoft copies of M-16 assault rifle. This Airsoft rifles can have the construction of trigger mechanism that is exact copy of the one used in M-16 assault rifle. Moreover, in some models detail sizes are the same as in real M-16 assault rifle. This makes possible to upgrade the Airsoft rifle for shooting cartridges of the caliber 5.56×45 mm by installing the rifled barrel (which can be bought on the Internet in USA) and using the original bolt carrier. The laboratory also received for the examination the upgraded Airsoft rifle samples with converted bolt carrier. So it made possible nоt use these firearm details. In some case identification of the evidence as atypical weapon is difficult because markings made by manufactures are identical to real M-16 assault rifles markings. This article discuses criminalistic examination methods of this homemade weapon type.

Backgroun/rationale: Adults with physical disabilities are an underserved population among Americans who participate in adaptive shooting sports. A basic rifle marksmanship clinic has potential to promote a low impact outdoor physical activity for adults with physical disabilities as leisure skill development. Methods: This grant-funded service project of a therapeutic recreation (TR) graduate student utilized program design and evaluation. The specific program design included best practices for teaching basic rifle marksmanship and measured participants’ performance outcomes related to shooting skills and knowledge. A half-day rifle marksmanship clinic was conducted as a university-funded community service grant which provided rifle instructor certification, ammunition and supplies. The clinic was a collaboration between physical therapy (PT) and TR faculty and PT, OT, and TR majors. Results: All participants gained shooting knowledge and skill through this program. A shooting clinic format with classroom instruction followed by practice on a live firing range was effective. The use of a leisure partner for each participant helped sustain interest and continued support to develop skill after the clinic. Doing an in-home exercise program prior to the clinic reduced muscle soreness from the intensity of target practice in a clinic format. Conclusions: TR specialists may promote shooting sports as treatment for functional improvement or as leisure skill development. They may collaborate with physical and occupational therapy to emphasize psychosocial aspects of shooting sports.Recommendations: Shooting skills instructors could expand live fire training time at clinics, start training with virtual shooting or air or laser rifles to assess participant readiness, promote inclusive practice specific to shooting sports, and apply empowerment evaluation as a signature program strategy.

Purpose:To identify biomechanical predictors that distinguish between high- and low-score athletes in biathlon shooting and to determine the relationships among these variables in field testing.Methods:Twenty-two biathletes (8 female, 14 male) from the World Cup, the European Cup, and a federal youth squad each fired 3 clips of 5 shots in prone and standing shooting positions without physical load, followed by 2 respective series in both disciplines during a simulated 12.5-km pursuit race on roller skis. Biomechanical variables describing triggering, rifle force in the back shoulder, and body and rifle sway were calculated over the last 0.5 second before firing. For computed linear discriminant analyses, subjects were divided into high- and low-level performers based on mean scores for each condition separately. In addition, correlations among all biomechanical factors were calculated. Results:Regarding prone shooting, shoulder force in the rest condition and vertical rifle sway in the race simulation were shown to be main discriminators. Several body- and rifle-sway variables were found to be predictors in standing rest shooting. Body sway across the shooting line discriminated the groups in the standing race situation tendentially. Thus, the main performance predictors changed due to fatigue. Correlations between triggering and rifle sway, shoulder force and rifle sway, and body sway and rifle sway were discovered. Conclusions:Referring to the current results, athletes are recommended to focus on vertical rifle sway in prone position and on body sway across the shooting line during standing shooting when fatigued.

Background Air-rifle and small-bore shooting are fascinating Olympic sports due to their unique performance requirements for accuracy and precision. Objective The purpose of our study was to systematically research the literature to determine and summarize performance determinants in both air-rifle and small-bore shooting. Since some athletes participate internationally in both disciplines in competition, the disciplines must have some similarity in the performance structure. Therefore, we further investigated whether performance in air-rifle and small-bore shooting can be explained by the same performance determinants. Methods We systematically searched in four databases using combined keywords relevant to performance in air-rifle and small-bore shooting. The articles included had undergone peer-review and had a) a direct relation to shooting performance, b) an indirect relation by comparing the performance of shooters of different skill levels, and c) a practical relevance (directly controllable through training). After the quality of each article was assessed, the key data were extracted and summarized. Results The fourteen articles included achieved an average of 60 ± 14% (range 30–80%) in quality assessment. Altogether, articles covered 268 subjects (32% female), of which 19% were elite- and 28% were national-level athletes. Sixteen performance determinants were investigated, which were divided into anthropometric, technical-coordinative, physiological and psychological categories. Both in air-rifle and small-bore shooting, rifle stability and body sway were found to differ between elite- and national-level athletes. In both disciplines, body sway seemed to have no influence on shot score in elite- and national-level athletes. Similarly, heart rate did not correlate with shot score at nearly all performance levels in both disciplines. In national-level air-rifle athletes, horizontal rifle stability, aiming accuracy and aiming time were found to affect shot score. Conclusions To be competitive at a national-level in air-rifle shooting, a highly developed aiming process is needed to achieve a high shot score. Lack of data prevented us from drawing evidence-based conclusions in elite-level air-rifle athletes and in small-bore shooting. Future research should investigate possible performance determinants both in air-rifle and in small-bore shooting, especially with elite-level athletes, to confirm or disprove existing findings. Further research should use more complex analyses to investigate the multifaceted processes associated with different performance determinants.

Background/Aim. A short-term high-intensity noise from a gunshot impulse that occurs when using infantry weapon, can result in onset of auditory symptoms such as tinnitus, impaired hearing or feeling of pressure in one or both ears. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of live ammunition shooting from an automatic rifle on the hearing sense in professional military personnel. The examination was done in correlation with the conditions of the common shooting practice procedure. Methods. The research has been conducted on 22 professional soldiers serving in the Serbian Military, during their regular peacetime training shooting from the automatic rifle AP 7.62 mm M70. The training was conducted on the formational shooting field ?Bubanj Potok?. The written consent from all subjects was acquired. All subjects were submitted to medical examination prior and after the shooting session. The medical examination consisted of anamnesis, clinical otorhinolaryngological examination, audiometry and impedancemetry. All subjects filled out the following questionnaire forms: ?The Questionnaire prior to shooting? and ?The questionnaire after shooting.? Subjects who were incapable to undergo shooting practice, whether from psychological or physical reasons were excluded from this study. Results. After the assessment of received data from 22 subjects, the results were as followed: in 2 (9%) subjects hearing impairment was diagnosed. Tinnitus was registered in 5 (22.7%) patients. One (4.5%) patient reported the feeling of pressure in one ear. One of two cases of one ear hearing impairment was on the rifle holding side and second case was on opposite lateral side. In both cases, hearing loss was of sensorineural type of milder degree, with a scotoma at 4,000 Hz in one case up to 50 dB and the second up to 55 dB. Conclusion. Auditory effects of impulse noise that occurs when shooting from automatic rifles cause hearing impairment, tinnitus and a feeling of pressure in the ears. The practical significance of this study lies in prevention which includes the mandatory use of personal protective equipment and functional arrangement of the practice shooting field.

The hit rate is affected by the shooting impact of the human-rifle system. The impact response of the human-rifle system is determined mainly by the geometrical parameters and contact boundary conditions. In this study, the height and weight of the considered human model are 170 cm and 60 kg, as these parameters mirror 50 per cent of Korean males in their twenties. The rifle model is applied on the K-2. The impact path analysis of three typical shooting postures: the standing, kneeling and prone shooting postures is performed with experimental impulse-time history during a shooting test. The biomechanical response such as impact transfer path, force history and displacement history are investigated.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the ergonomics and biomechanics of rifle shooting from the standing position. At present, the scientific literature on shooting contains primarily qualitative descriptions of the various aspects of the sport. Quantitative data on the kinetic and kinematic aspects of standing rifle shooting was collected in the present thesis. Transducers were developed to measure foot forces in the vertical and horizontal plane, recoil force on the shoulder and the grip force of the trigger hand. Kinematic data was collected with a video camera. The study revealed that recoil energy was dependent on the attributes of the shooter. Handgrip forces were found to be well below the maximum handgrip strength. An exploratory investigation of the interrelationships among foot forces, rifle recoil and angular and linear displacements was carried out. No horizontal foot forces to counteract the recoil force were observed. A possible explanation for the finding is proposed. The findings are discussed with reference to the ergonomic implications for rifle stock design. Further investigations of the relationships between shooting performance and the man-rifle interface are indicated.

The purpose of this thesis is to develop an interpretable model that gives predictions for what factors impacted a shooter’s results. Experiment is our chosen research method. Our three independent variables are weapon movement, trigger pull force and heart rate. Our dependent variable is shooting accuracy. A random forest regression model is trained with the experiment data to produce predictions of shooting accuracy and to show correlation between independent and dependent variables. Our method shows that an increase in weapon movement, trigger pull force and heart rate decrease the predicted accuracy score. Weapon movement impacted shooting results the most with 53.61%, while trigger pull force and heart rateimpacted shooting results 22.20% and 24.18% respectively. We have also shown that LIME can be a viable method to give explanations on how the measured factors impacted shooting results. The results from this thesis lay the groundwork for better training tools for target shooting using explainable prediction models with sensors.

This study examined the effects of training with real-time auditory feedback in precision shooting. Top-level shooters (N=9) were randomly assigned to the feedback or nonfeedback group. Each group performed a pre-test, a 4-week training intervention and a post-test. The feedback group was provided with augmented real-time auditory feedback based on postural and rifle barrel stability during training sessions. Increases in performance were measured through changes in postural stability, rifle barrel stability, shot outcome and shot group diameter. Real-time auditory feedback did not increase postural or rifle barrel stability in the feedback group. No meaningful differences were found related to shot outcome or shot group diameter in air rifle testing. The feedback group was able to reduce shot group diameter during smallbore testing. In summary, the augmented real-time auditory feedback did not improve postural or rifle barrel stability. Future research should focus on examining the effects of auditory feedback on smallbore performance.

There is a lack of data-driven training instructions for sports shooters, as instruction has commonly been based on subjective assessments. Many studies have correlated body posture and balance to shooting performance in rifle shooting tasks, but most of them have focused on single aspects of postural control. This thesis has focused on finding relevant rifle shooting factors by examining the entire body over sequences of time. We performed a data collection with 13 human participants who carried out live rifle shooting scenarios while being recorded with multiple biometric sensors, including several body trackers. An experiment was conducted to identify what aspects of rifle shooting could be predicted and explained using these data. We employed a pre-processing pipeline to produce a novel skeleton sequence representation, and used it to train a transformer model. The predictions from this model could be explained on a per sample basis using the attention mechanism, and visualised in an interactive format for humans to interpret. It was possible to separate the different phases of a shooting scenario from body posture with a high classification accuracy (81%). However, no correlation could be shown between shooting performance and body posture from our data. Future work could focus on novel feature engineering, and on examining alternative machine learning approaches. The dataset and pre-processing pipeline, as well as the techniques for generating explainable predictions presented in this thesis has laid the groundwork for future research in the sports shooting domain.

The discussion regarding the second amendment and gun control in the United States has been a controversial and highly debated topic for many years. However, with the several school shootings taking place, the discussion about gun controls has been taken to a new level. The purpose of this essay is to give an overview of the debate and answer to the main question ”how is the relationship between freedom and rights expressed in the debate about strengthened gun control, in relation to positive and negative liberty, and over time?  In order to achieve the purpose, three different kinds of analyzes have been made. First, two pro-contra analyzes were made on two different occasions. Next, the arguments found was examined through two concepts of liberty: positive and negative liberty. Lastly, a comparison was made between the arguments from the two different occasions. The results show that there are three different core issues in the debate, and that positive liberty is dominating the pro-gun control side, while negative liberty and individual rights are dominating the contra-gun control side. The debate has not been going through a radical change. However, some arguments have grown stronger over the years.

Some people don’t like reading abstract because it’s too boring and unattractive. But if you are a beginner at shooting or have learned shooting for while but lack of progress, you’ll find this report useful. Professional opinions from experts, related literature, and empirical experience are all included in the study and it helps you develop shooting knowledge and also make progress in shooting performance. By sharing the successfully experience and skills, it is hoped that readers could become excellent shooters in the future. For the view point of competitive sport development, there is one common characteristic in modern competitive sport training- to explore the potential of athletes through various scientific ways to the direction of ultimate sport performance. Therefore, we could see the importance of sport sciences. The foundation of sport techniques lies in power, endurance, speed, flexibility, and coordination. But besides above physiological factors, psychological, technical and tactical factors are also important. These factors decide the future development of an athlete. With the increasing level of modern competitive sport in terms of techniques, more problems regarding to training for athletes are waiting to be resolved. To promote the development of shooting in Taiwan, find the best results for shooting, and develop the basic theoretical system for shooting theory based on previous successful experience, we are striving for the integration of theory and practice objectively, scientifically, systematically and comprehensively. We know it is not easy to have scientific training especially for a discipline which doesn’t require ultimate power but put high demand on psychological stress, we have to be more cautious when trying to reach the balance. Based on the foundation of precious knowledge and previous successful experience, we hope this technical report could help the research development of scientific training in shooting.

This paper aims to provide a complete guide to man 10-meter air rifle shooting, ranging from its rule, the principles of its physical and mental training to the dietary suggestions. We also include the know-how of air rifle’s cleaning and maintenance in order to provide a basic background knowledge for readers. This study is motivated by the observation that the literature in Chinese on 10-meter air rifle shooting is very limited. We first describe the principle and the components of air rifle, the process of the shooting competition, as well as the standard of shooting equipment. We then review the existing methods on shooting training, including those on shooting postures, physical strength and mental stability. We believe that these training methods, combined with our personal pre-competition training plan, will optimize and speed up the learning and training process of air rifle shooting. This paper is full of shooting techniques and its training methods that we learned and discovered in our stay at NationalTaiwanSportUniversity. We hope that this paper will enrich the field of air rifle shooting in Taiwan and benefit the sport students and professional athletes in this field.

The T91 assault rifle’s design is very meticulous and lighter than other models. Today’s training courses are still limited to teaching the techniques listed in textbooks. T91 is the most important training for the ground force in the Ministry of National Defense. Such courses are starting to become more systematic which improves the quality of the drills. However, assault rifle training in general stresses techniques and methods for technique acquisition. However, the psychological aspects of shooting are missing. Therefore, a handbook that deals with the psychological issues of shooting is in need. Shooting in real life is very different than what the training handbook explained. Thus, supplemental materials for training should be designed. Such materials will be used in training courses so that students can familiarize themselves with the shooting postures and enhance their accuracy in order to deal with unexpected scenarios. When such situation occurs, they can handle it according to what is taught in class and decrease the risks. This research is conducted using literature analysis, analyzing the lesson design. This study looks at existing literature on shooting theories, shooting techniques, aiming, breathing, psychological and physical conditions, steps toward shooting and the actual firing. This paper has five sections. The first section will look at the goals, the steps, key points in the training courses. Theories and pictures are included in this section. When the courses are finished, they will be written into lesson plans and send to professionals in the field to be evaluated and discussed. The goal of this study is to make suggestions that can be applied to T91 trainings to fill in the gaps of the existing training design in order to increase the performance of the students. Keywords:assault riffle, shooting courses, the steps toward shooting.

This study investigates the relationship between human interface factors and shooting performance during prone rifle shooting position. The values of six human interface factors related to gun holding and two points of impact were selected for investigation. A T-91 rifle was used to shoot and to obtain relevant data, which were then collected, analyzed, and summarized to construct a shooting performance prediction model (point of impact score prediction model and point of impact distance prediction model) using a back-propagation neural network (BPN). Current operational guides for prone rifle shooting instruct users to press the rifle handle against the shallow of their shoulder and pull the trigger using their index finger, without explaining the precise shoulder position to adopt to support the rifle handle and the accurate finger position for pulling the trigger. The analysis results of the experimental data show that three of the six human interface factors of gun holding significantly influence shooting performance. The findings of this study have been empirically verified. To achieve a good shooting performance, shooters should use the pad of their index finger to pull the trigger, and upper portion of the rifle handle should be pressed against the shallow of their shoulder. The results of this study can serve as a reference for adjusting gun-holding postures to improve various aspects of shooting performance. The shooting performance prediction models established in this study provide predictability, regardless of whether they applied to specific shooters or to shooters in general. Therefore, this study can be used to be the doctrine when teaching rifle shooting in prone position.

Chapter 3 details the events culminating in the shooting deaths of two young African Americans and the wounding of twelve others. On May 13, 1970, police responded to students throwing rocks at the vehicles of white motorists. Trouble resumed the next evening. Although, law enforcement later claimed there was a sniper, the shootings were entirely unwarranted, and resulted from their mistakes and failures as they rushed through their protocols, skipped important steps, and substituted a hyper-militarized response for careful planning. Their inability to distinguish between a handful of people engaging in property destruction and the majority of peaceful students as well as their abrogation of the basic rules of crowd control heightened the risk of violence. But it was their racism, and their false belief that the students posed a dangerous threat, which made it possible for these heavily armed officers to pull the trigger on unarmed African American students.

This chapter focuses on the political power of the National Rifle Association (NRA), and asks the questions: What is the source of its power? How does it operate? How has it shaped gun policy and the broader political system? It looks beyond the NRA's use of financial resources and turns instead to what the chapter describes as ideational resources: the identity and ideology it cultivates among its members, which have enabled it to build an active, engaged, and powerful constituency. The chapter contends that the NRA has played a central role in driving the political outlooks and political activity of its supporters — activity that has had both direct and indirect influence on federal gun policy in the United States. Even from its earliest days as a relatively small organization dedicated to marksmanship, competitive shooting, and military preparedness, the NRA cultivated a distinct worldview around guns — framing gun ownership as an identity that was tied to a broader, gun-centric political ideology — and mobilized its members into political action on behalf of its agenda. The chapter analyzes how a group can construct an identity and an ideology, and what happens when it aligns these behind a single party.

It is Commonly Claimed that American society is crime-ridden and violent. Horrendous numbers of murders are committed, almost twice the per capita rate in 2004–05 of the nearest competitors, Switzerland, Finland, and Sweden (figure 67). The death-by-assault rates in America are over three times the nearest European comparisons, Finland, followed by Portugal. That is without question. Such mayhem cannot be due simply to gun ownership, since by some accounts the Finns and the Swiss have a higher percentage of armed households than the Americans (figure 68). Firearms ownership, though highest in the United States per capita if measured by individual citizen, is not as far beyond the European numbers as one might expect from the horror stories of South Central or the South Bronx. According to the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, Americans own 97 firearms per hundred people, the Finns 69, the Swiss 61, the Swedes 40. Another survey, published by Tilburg University in the Netherlands, the Dutch Ministry of Justice, and two United Nations Institutes, reveals that percentage-wise there are more firearms in the hands of the residents of Zurich, Vienna, Stockholm, Rome, Reykjavik, Oslo, Madrid, Lisbon, Helsinki, and Athens than in those of New Yorkers. Indeed, the burghers of Helsinki, Berlin, Lisbon, Rome, Vienna, and Zurich own proportionately as many or more handguns as New Yorkers. To the extent that gun ownership and hunting overlap, the distinctions between the United States and Europe also fade. Svenska Jägarförbundet, the Swedish Hunters Association, has a membership (200,000) that is proportionately almost twice as high as what the National Rifl e Association claims (4 million). The Schweizer Schiesssportverband (Swiss Shooting Association) has a membership (85,000) that is relatively as high as the NRA’s. Its arguments against current proposals to regulate gun ownership in Switzerland more strictly sound many of the same themes that are heard in the United States, down to the slogan about people, not guns, doing the actual killing. The smaller Pro-Tell Society defends gun ownership as part of Switzerland’s liberal tradition. In Switzerland, of course, men oft en keep their military weapons at home.

"All people in the military must be proficient on the basics – to shoot, move, and communicate. Basic Rifle Marksmanship (BRM) is required for both noncommissioned and enlisted Warfighters in all branches of military service, with training on BRM skills being conducted in a series of “dry fire”, simulation, and live drills. In all phases of training, Warfighters receive instruction on the four fundamentals of shooting: breathing, body position, sight picture, and trigger squeeze. Within simulation, this training is conducted in a 1:4 to 1:8 range; one instructor per 4-8 students. While realtime individualized feedback is a goal of instruction, it is not a reality, as instructors must attend to the needs of many students. In an effort to aid instructors in providing valuable individualized feedback, a tutoring system was developed which automatically diagnosed novice performance when compared to experts. This system was used to diagnose novice performance with extensive physical sensors applied to the weapons. This work investigates whether machine learning can aid in the diagnosis of the novice performance, without the physical sensors, and analyzes the degree to which the sensors are necessary."
