Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the implications for supply chain risk management (SCRM) by applying internet of things (IoT). Therefore, the impact and effects on the SCRM process, as well as the internal and external pathway and the outcome of SCRM are examined. Design/methodology/approach This study adopts a multiple case study methodology with twelve companies from the manufacturing industry. This study is guided by the information processing theory (IPT) and a theory-grounded research framework to provide insights into information requirements and information processing capabilities for IoT-supported SCRM. Findings The studied cases demonstrate an increase in data availability in the companies that contribute to improved process transparency and process management. Furthermore, the process steps, risk transparency, risk knowledge and risk strategies have been enhanced, which enabled improved SCRM performance by fitting information requirements and information processing capabilities, thus allowing for competitive advantage. Practical implications This study offers in-depth insights for SCRM managers into the structure of IoT systems, primary use cases and changes for the process itself. Furthermore, implications for employees, incentives and barriers are identified, which could be used to redesign SCRM. Originality/value This study addresses the requirement for additional empirical research on technology-enhanced SCRM, supported by IPT as a theoretical foundation. The radical change of SCRM by IoT is demonstrated while discussing the human role, implications for SCRM strategies and identifying relevant topics for future development.

Purpose The research on supply chain risk management (SCRM) is visibly on the rise, although its literature still lacks the state of the art that critically analyzes its content. The SCRM literature seems to require studies that utilize risk typology, sources of risk, etc. for reviewing the topic. The purpose of this paper is to bridge the gap by synthesizing the information obtained from 343 articles across 85 journals. This study also presents a critical analysis of the content of SCRM in a structured manner to identify the directions for future research. Design/methodology/approach A systematic literature review (SLR) was devised and adopted, which involved the selection, classification, and evaluation of 343 research articles published over a period of 11 years (2004-2014). The content of extant SCRM literature was critically analyzed and synthesized from the perspective of the risk management process (RMP). Findings The analysis of extant literature shows that there is a marked rise in research in the SCRM area, especially after the year 2005. It was observed that not only risk but also different forms of uncertainties make supply chain (SC) operations difficult to manage. The SCRM actions yielded most benefits when their implementation was at chain or network level and managed strategically. The analysis also reveals that the manufacturing sector is most affected by risks and highly investigated by researchers. Practical implications A complete process for SCRM based on risk stratification, objectives of risk management, and RMP will be a guiding model for firms to manage risks. The research gaps identified and future directions provided here will encourage researchers and managers to devise new methods, tools, and techniques to address the risks in modern SC operations. Originality/value An SLR and risk-based content classification of SCRM literature were performed. To identify, locate, select, and analyze the SCRM literature, a structured and systematic process was adopted with some very rarely used methods such as two levels of search keywords, and strings were formulated to locate the most relevant articles in major academic databases.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to review the extant literature on supply chain risk management (SCRM, including risk identification, assessment, treatment, and monitoring), developing a comprehensive definition and conceptual framework; to evaluate prior theory use; and to identify future research directions. Design/methodology/approach A systematic literature review of 354 articles (published 2000-2016) based on descriptive, thematic, and content analysis. Findings There has been a considerable focus on identifying risk types and proposing risk mitigation strategies. Research has emphasised organisational responses to supply chain risks and made only limited use of theory. Ten key future research directions are identified. Research limitations/implications A broad, contemporary understanding of SCRM is provided; and a new, comprehensive definition is presented covering the process, pathway, and objectives of SCRM, leading to a conceptual framework. The research agenda guides future work towards maturation of the discipline. Practical implications Managers are encouraged to adopt a holistic approach to SCRM. Guidance is provided on how to select appropriate risk treatment actions according to the probability and impact of a risk. Originality/value The first review to consider theory use in SCRM research and to use four SCRM stages to structure the review.

Supply chain risk management (SCRM) is imperative to achieve business sustainability in the long-term perspective and also to increase companies’ competitiveness. ISO 31000—Risk Management explains in its latest versions the need for companies to integrate a risk management process into their business models. Complementary to this standard, ISO 31010 presents 31 risk tools to guide companies in this task. However, a question of practical application arises as to which tools should be used for each stage of the SCRM process. In view of the raised question, the main objective of this research is to select ISO 31010 tools that can be used in each of the stages (identify, analyze, and evaluate) of the risk management of the import and export process of an automotive industry located in Brazil. For this, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP method) was used in a case study to prioritize the tools to compose the SCRM. As practical implications, this study resulted in the suggestion of a structured risk management process, considering the assessment of key professionals of the department studied in the company.

The current automotive supply chain is facing more risks than ever due to the heavy dependencies of local automotive component manufacturers with foreign and established global producers. In response, this paper is designed to explore the supply chain risk management (SCRM) practice of automotive industry in Malaysia. In-depth case studies were conducted at two automotive components manufacturers based on three constructs of SCRM framework including the SCRM process, tools used in SCRM and techniques to minimize risk. The case studies revealed that the automotive companies implemented failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA), 5 why analysis, impact-aspect study, and recovery planning to manage their supply chain risks. In addition, brainstorming techniques, experience and expert judgment were mainly used as risk identification and assessment techniques. Most of the risks encountered during operations were dealt by reactive strategies such as back-up suppliers and increasing buffer stocks. Overall, the automotive companies are heading towards more formal and sophisticated SCRM especially with the certification of TS16949 although there are still plenty of rooms for improvements in the risk identification and risk assessment techniques since very limited quantitative techniques were evidenced.

Abstract The modelling of supply chain risk management (SCRM) has attracted increasing attention from researchers and professionals. However, a systematic network analysis of the literature to understand the development of research over time is lacking. Therefore, this study reviews SCRM modelling and its evolution as a scientific field. We collected 566 papers published in the Scopus database and shortlisted 120 for review. We have analysed the field's performance, mapped the most influential studies, as well as the generative and evolutionary research areas, and derived future research directions. Using bibliometric methods and tools for citation network analysis to understand the field's dynamic development, we find that five generative research areas provide the fundamental knowledge for four evolutionary research areas. The interpretation of gaps and trends in these areas provides an SCRM modelling timeline with 14 future research directions, which should consider adopting a holistic SCRM approach and developing prescriptive and normative risk models. The holistic approach enables more research on key factors—like process integration, design, information risk, visibility and risk coordination—that directly impact industry, decision-makers and sustainability needs. Risk models with evolved prescriptive and normative typology should respect both business model strategies and actual supply chain performance.

Supply chain risk management (SCRM) has a strong influence on the cooperation among partners and the performance of the entire production chain across the world. A supply chain designed to minimize risks enables firms to establish a competitive position and provides long-term benefits to stakeholders. Especially in a complicated and slow-growing industry like Automotive Industry. The auto industry's most important segments including commercial vehicles and passenger cars. Global sales of passenger cars are forecast to fall to 59.5 million units in 2020, down from a peak of 79.6 in 2017. The SCRM system should be structured to manage both routine and extraordinary risks, such as economical crisis, global pandemic issues, or even other unexpected event. The risks should be managed both reactively, by monitoring changes in the chain, the needs of customers, technology and the strategies of suppliers and competitors, among others, to enable quick reaction to events; and proactively, to identify risks and implement actions to prevent them or minimize their impacts. The basic risk management process consists of identifying, evaluating, mitigating and controlling risks. The objective of this paper is to analyze how SCRM could manages the risk factors in Automotive Industry’s supply chain in three different segmentation perspective. To achieve this aim, we performed a qualitative, applied and exploratory field study of the development trend of automotive Industry across the world, Asia, and Indonesia in terms of gaining more insight about the latest development trend of SCRM implementation in various segmentation. The data were collected by doing literature review from previous published research related to SCRM in Automotive Industry.

Purpose Supply chain risk (SCR) has increasingly attracted academic and corporate interest; however, the SCR debate in academic literature is rather limited to case- and location-specific studies. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to utilize a systematic literature review (SLR) to explore the SCR research trends and gaps within the management literature. Design/methodology/approach To achieve the research objective an SLR, looking into 25 years since 1990, into supply chain risk management (SCRM) was conducted, which resulted in 114 papers. Findings While the SCRM literature is growing, results from the SLR identified limited organized understanding of what constitutes a holistic SCR process, and high reliance of particular categories for SCR, such as the high reliance on specific country settings (the USA and the UK); limited presence of cross competitive SCR process analysis and challenges in developing conceptual SCR frameworks. Research limitations/implications The SCR embeds categories of location, scope of supply chain, risk management tools, and the industry sectors involved. The search for related publications was mainly used from a wide range of coverage from accountancy to design in SCR; hence, although there is indication to specific industries, and foci of risk, this could be explored further. Practical implications This review of SCRM identifies various research gaps and directions for future research to develop theory and a practical understanding of SCR. Originality/value The current literature on SCR has been assessed based on its definition and utilization. The current paper bridges this gap by synthesizing the diverse academic journal papers into the categories based on the design continuum, relationship continuum, process continuum and economic continuum. In addition, it highlights the gaps in industry context, theoretical contribution, geographic location, and research methods applied and addresses the scope for further research.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between various risk management strategies and risk management practices in order to design and hence enact a suitable supply chain risk mitigation (RM) plan. Additionally, this study proposes a hierarchical framework to explain the mutual relationship between supply chain risk management (SCRM) practices and strategies by considering the underlying dimensions between them.Design/methodology/approachAn amalgamation of systematic literature analysis (SLA) and correspondence analysis (CA) has been performed to develop the conceptual framework. A real-life case of Indian petroleum supply chain has been considered to validate and explain the proposed model.FindingsThe results reveal three underlying dimensions, which associate the relationship between RM strategies. They are, risk adaptability of SC managers with a variance of 34.71%, followed by resource capability of the firm and the degree of sophistication of RM practices, with variances of 27.72 and 20.35%, respectively. Risk avoidance strategy comprises of practices such as supplier evaluation, technology adaption, flexible process and information security. On the other extreme, the risk sharing strategy includes revenue sharing, insurance, collaboration, public–private partnership and so on as essential RM practices.Research limitations/implicationsThe study not only focuses on the distinction between RM strategies and practices, which were used interchangeably in the prior literature, but also provides an association between the same by exploring the underlying dimensions. These underlying dimensions perform a crucial role while developing a risk management plan. This study explicitly focuses on the RM step of SCRM process. Pre and post risk mitigation phases of SCRM process, such as risk assessment and risk monitoring, are beyond the scope of the current research.Originality/valueThe paper develops a framework for mapping various RM strategies with their corresponding practices by considering the Indian petroleum supply chain as a viable case study. Various theoretical and business implications are derived in the context of the developing country.

Purpose From the perspective of the supply chain risk management (SCRM), this paper addresses the effects of a hybrid production system (make-to-stock and make-to-order) in order to know which risks can impact the production planning process at a large automaker in Brazil. Through the correlation of these themes, the purpose of this paper is to understand the relevant risks to the supply chain (SC). Design/methodology/approach Before the field research, a theoretical approach was made on two themes. After theoretical analysis of a case study on the automaker and data collection, the work used the Pearson’s product moment correlation (r) and χ2 and Kolmogorov–Smirnov tests to assess the risk factors raised by the interviewed professionals, thus characterizing a mixed methodological approach (i.e. qualitative and quantitative). Findings It was evidenced that many risks are the result of functional failures, such as input of incorrect information in the system, and many are inherent to managerial decisions when procedures and different paths of production are adopted. Additionally, it has been proven that the adoption of a hybrid production planning approach does not increase the risks to the SC and that the identified risks do not necessarily are included within the scope of SCRM. Originality/value This study is characterized by an approach which combines SCRM and hybrid production system.

Purpose: Outsourcing transactions have been arisen and evolved in the last years and purchase managers want to know if a Failure Mode Effects and Analysis (FMEA) is an effective qualitative technique to analyze supply chain risks (SCR) in a proper way. The aim of this study is to address this question developing a practicable risk management process based on the guidelines of the ISO 31000 for upstream Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM) linking risk assessment, risk identification, risk analysis, risk evaluation, risk treatment and validate the process empirically through a case study.Design/methodology/approach: After a review of the literature on Sustainable Supply Chain Risk Management (SSCRM), a case study based on a leading manufacturer of electrical products, collects evidences of SSCRM implementation.Findings: Supply chain disruptions are one of the most critical issues which can negatively influence on firm’s performance. Avoiding and mitigating disruptions in the supply chain is one of the main challenges for supply chain managers.Originality/value: This paper identifies the ISO 31000, the ISO 9001 and the use of an FMEA to analyze supply chain risks in a structured manner and to outline future research opportunities in the field of SCRM.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify and analyse collaborative risk management (CRM) literature to establish its current position in supply chain risk management (SCRM) and propose an agenda for future research. Design/methodology/approach A systematic literature review of 101 peer-reviewed articles over a 21-year period was employed to analyse literature and synthesise findings to clarify terminology, definitions, CRM capabilities, and underlying theory. Findings CRM as a field of research is in its infancy and suffers from imprecise definitions, fragmented application of capabilities, and diverse theoretical foundations. The term CRM is identified as a more representative description of relational risk management arrangements. Six capabilities relevant to CRM are identified: risk information sharing, standardisation of procedures, joint decision making, risk and benefit sharing, process integration, and collaborative performance systems. Originality/value The paper provides a new definition for CRM; proposes a holistic approach in extending collaboration to SCRM; identifies a new capability; and provides a range of theories to broaden the theoretical scope for future research on CRM.

Purpose One of the most important issues in supply chain (SC) management is the identification and management of the risk involved in it. The purpose of this paper is to propose a comprehensive model of supply chain risk management (SCRM) in the product life cycle (PLC) and the operational process cycle (OPC). To decrease the risks in a fuzzy environment, the model considers the organizational performance factors (OPF) and the risk operational practices (ROP). Design/methodology/approach Fuzzy analytic hierarchy process is used to determine the weights of the relationships between the PLC, OPC and OPF in the hierarchical structure of the decision problem. In addition, the fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution is employed to recognize the priority of ROPs in dealing with the performance factors. The integrated framework is evaluated using the case study of an automotive company in Iran. Findings The results demonstrated that the proposed model can be used to formulate an appropriate method for prioritizing defined alternatives to decrease risk and improve the organizational performance in SCRM under fuzzy conditions. Research limitations/implications A major limitation of the study is that a few of the selected criteria for risk assessment are focused only on economic factors. Another limitation of the current study is related to the PLC, OPC and OPF being based on the work of Xia and Chen (2011). Practical implications The current study identified the more important stage in the PLC. More significant process in each stage of the PLC and weightier risk factors in each process of the OPC were determined. Some strategies for reducing risk in each stage of the PLC were presented. The best alternatives for reducing risks in SC were indicated. Originality/value It is worth mentioning that previous studies have not applied multiple criteria and alternatives to decrease the risks involved in the PLC and OPC parts of the SC under fuzzy conditions. However, it should be stated that some academics have used these techniques separately, in other specialized areas of the SC.

Social CRM is gradually stirring into the conventional business strategies in spite of much hue and cry for unsecured process and stepping. Seeing people networked for the sustainable advantages of the companies, they are now being enabled by web 2.0 technologies. Web 2.0 technology is a hopeful breakthrough to modernize the CRM. In the process and implementation of the strategy, few of corporate giants have already jumped into the social CRM, and few are in the process of comprehension and the adoption. This paper aims to portray the process of social media in monitoring and fostering the relationship. The study talks about the detailed functioning of social CRM after having the investigation of the present famous social CRM process. Further an initiative is taken to explore the social CRM practices in Indian industries and to explain other functions of SCRM through cases, for capability building and healthy management.

In the present paper, the multishock compaction process of a die-contained copper powder medium supported by an elastic plug at one end and impacted by an elastic punch at the other end, is analyzed by means of an improved theory having the effect of elasticity of the punch and plug. The compactions computed first have a constant sum of lengths of the medium and plug S0*=110, a constant ratio of punch mass to powder mass filled in the die M*=20, and an initial punch velocity ν0=50m/s. The computations of the compactions for the medium with very short lengths and the plug with long lengths confirm the existence of the medium length Scr1* corresponding to the first critical plug-length found in the previous study, and support the compaction process and the final mean density ρmean*-initial medium length S* relation of the medium shorter than the length Scr1* which were inferred in the study. Furthermore, the effect of elastic waves in the punch and plug on the process of the medium longer than Scr1* are examined. There are one common factor and one significant different factor in the processes. Explicitly, the waves in the plug exert different influence on compaction processes of the medium with different lengths, whereas the waves in the punch have similar influence on the processes. The elastic waves in the plug and die wall friction cause the medium length Scr2* corresponding to the second critical plug-length inferred in the previous study. Moreover, the waves in the plug make the form of the computed relation curve more complicated than the inferred one. The computed curve has the lengths Scr3* and Scr4* at which the density has an extreme value, respectively. Approximate similarity conditions for the compactions with various values of S0* are given by two fixed parameters M* and ν0 in region S*<Scr1*, three fixed parameters S*/S0*, M*, and ν0 in region from Scr1* to small S* where the wall friction effect can be neglected, and three fixed parameters S*, M*, and ν0 in region S*>(1/2)S0*. The computed ρmean*–S* and ρmean*–S*/S0* relations support these conditions. Furthermore, the computations of the compactions reveal that the waves in the punch, medium, and plug behave in similar manner during the processes, though they have different strengths.

Supply chain risk management (SCRM) is the process of risk mitigation in supply chains achieved through collaboration, coordination and application of risk management tools among the partners, to ensure continuity coupled with long-term profitability of the supply chain. Supply chain risks emanate from multiple sources and similarly risk mitigation in supply chains is dependent on several variables. The most difficult part of supply chain risk management is prioritizing risks and an understanding of the relationships among various types of risks and risk mitigation variables. Drawing from the standard framework, in this research a modified house of quality is developed to understand the relationships between various supply chain risks and risk mitigation variables. It helps to prioritize various risks and understand the current status of the supply chain and the deficient areas with regard to risk mitigation capabilities. The structured QFD process provides the supply chain managers a conceptual map that enables the improvement of planning and control of various risks that could impact a supply chain.

Purpose: This study aims to address the existing research gap, as well as to explore the various types of flexibility which could contribute in mitigating supply chain risks. Methodology: In this regard, we consider three aspects under SCR namely; manufacturing process risk, delivery risk, and supply risk. The study explores the relationships among supply chain risk and environmental uncertainty, and the moderating role of supply chain flexibility by employing data of 91 manufacturing companies and develop a structural equation modelling. Results: Developing economies are contributing well in the global trade and are responsible for 50% of the generated global output. They present future prospects for economic growth and pose challenges mainly because of immature supply chain operations. Considering the critical role of emerging economies in global supply chain, such as India and China, it is also important to observe the moderating and driving supply chain risk factors in these regions. It is assumed that this study will not only fill the existing gap in the literature of SCRM but will assist researchers and practicing managers, by enabling them to fully understand certain types of supply chain flexibility, thus reducing the SCR under business environments.

Companies attempt to improve the performance of their supply chain (SC) by distinguishing and presenting feasible sustainable development practices (SDP). Considering SDP without focusing on sustainability risks may disturb the company’s future. Very few studies in the extant literature have dealt with the impact of (SDP) on the supply chain risk management (SCRM). In fact, the aim of this paper is to classify and prioritize SDPs according to their priority for better risk management and effective SC performance. The proposed approach comprises two phases. First, 14 SDPs are identified and selected from the literature. Second, MICMAC (Matrice d’impacts croisés multiplication appliquée à un classement) method as a structural analysis method applies to identify and assess sustainable supply chain risk management (SSCRM) practices which reduce risk in the SC. The input data for each phase are based on Delphi technique, which is a process group used to collect the opinions of experts in the field. The aim of the proposed approach is to prioritize SSCRM practices and classify them into influential, non-influential, independent and dependent practices and their mutual relationships. The six key findings SSCRM practices from direct and indirect classification include the following elements: (1) Delayed differentiation, (2) Information sharing with upstream and/or downstream partners, (3) Simplification of product dismantling/anticipation of product end of life, (4) Supplier/subcontractor’s performance assessment, (5) establishing shared supply management and (6) establishment of contracts with transporters.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between the maturity level of supply chain process management (SCPM) and the company’s organisational life cycle (OLC). Design/methodology/approach – Based on a theoretical review, a questionnaire was developed to measure the maturity level of SCPM and the OLC. Data from 228 companies operating in Brazil were collected to assess the association between variables by using correspondence analysis technique. Findings – Among the key findings, evidences of a relationship between the maturity level of SCPM and the company’s OLC could be highlighted. In addition, it was found that the maturity level of SCPM has no significant relationship with the age or size of a company but it is related to the capabilities inherent to the SCPM. Research limitations/implications – Measurement of SCPM and the OLC was based on the managers’ perceptions about the actual configuration of their firms. Accordingly, there is a certain level of subjectivity inherent to those models. The study is valid for companies operating in Brazil and might not be applicable for other countries. Practical implications – This study increases awareness about the influence of organisational issues, such as the decision model, power hierarchy or governance structure, in the development of SCPM maturity. Such issues must be addressed to develop SCPM. Social implications – Management and control of organisational issues might help to develop the maturity of SCPM, so the service level of companies, in order to deliver high quality services to society. Still, further research is required in the social area. Originality/value – The paper tried to analyse the relationship of two well established models where this link was overlooked in the past. It was not found in literature similar investigation.

Metal oxynitrides are compounds between nitrides and oxides with a certain level of photocatalytic functions. The purpose of this study is to investigate an appropriate range of oxygen flow rate during sputtering for depositing tantalum oxynitride films. The sputtering process was carried out under fixed nitrogen but variable oxygen flow rates. Post rapid thermal annealing was conducted at 800 °C for 5 min to transform the as-deposited amorphous films into crystalline phases. The material characterizations of annealed films include X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy for identifying crystal structures; scanning electron microscope for examining surface morphology; energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy to determine surface elemental compositions; four-point probe and Hall effect analysis to evaluate electrical resistivity; UV-visible-NIR spectroscopy for quantifying optical properties and optical bandgaps. To assess the photocatalytic function of oxynitride films, the degradation of methyl orange in de-ionized water was examined under continuous irradiation by a simulated solar light source for six hours. Results indicate that crystalline tantalum oxynitride films can be obtained if the O2 flow rate is chosen to be 0.25–1.5 sccm along with 10 sccm of N2 and 20 sccm of Ar. In particular, films deposited between 0.25 and 1.5 sccm O2 flow have higher efficiency in photodegradation on methyl orange due to a more comprehensive formation of oxynitrides.

In this study, we successfully combined RF magnetron sputtering of a pure Ti metal target and one-stage oxidation process with a wider oxygen ratio (10%-90%) and total sputtering flow rate (16-24 sccm) to produce TiO2thin films on a glass substrate. The crystallization, morphology, roughness, and thickness of the thin films were examined using XRD, HR-FESEM, AFM, and a profilometer. Subsequently, the photocatalytic performance was examined using a spectrometer and video tensiometer. The experimental results show that the TiO2thin films with a majority of anatase and higher roughness exhibit superior photocatalytic performance; the total sputtering gas flow rate of 18 sccm and oxygen content at 10% is the optimal option. Finally, an empirical formula to correlate the film thickness with deposition time was conducted for the sputtering flow rate of 18 sccm and the oxygen content of 10%.

Scanning confocal electron microscopy (SCEM) is a novel technique for threedimensional observation with a nanometer-scale resolution. Annular dark field (ADF) SCEM imaging has been demonstrated to have better depth resolution than bright field (BF) SCEM imaging. However, the depth resolution of ADF-SCEM images is limited by the vertical probe size determined by spherical aberration and convergence angle. Therefore, we attempted to employ a deconvolution image processing method to improve the depth resolution of SCEM images. The result of the deconvolution process for vertically sliced SCEM images showed the improvement in the depth resolution by 35-40%.

Product redesign is hardly a straightforward process, especially for complex products. The existence of intricate interrelationships between different components of product design architecture makes it more susceptible to change propagation phenomenon. In this case, redesign risk is not easy to predict since the change effects are being propagated to other components from the initiating change component. Because of this condition, choosing the right initiating change component is essential to control redesign process risks, apart from being able to successfully satisfy the product requirements. With this notion, this paper proposes a method that systematically ranks all components of an existing product design based on their estimated redesign risk. By having this information, designers can make a better redesign planning. The demonstration of this method is presented through an example aircraft redesign case study.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to conduct a review of the literature that gives insight into design elements for constructing a supply chain performance measurement (SCPM) system. Design/methodology/approach A systematic review of published research on SCPM systems and frameworks over the last two decades was conducted with the purpose of categorising key functions of SCPM systems by providing an insight into the design, functionality, implementation and practical implications of SCPM systems. Findings The review revealed a set of functions governing the SCPM system that have not been fully explored in previous research: the process focus, prioritisation, integration and causality functions of a SCPM system. A relationship between two or more functions can be created to include more functionality based on the needs of the company to create a comprehensive performance measurement system. Research limitations/implications The paper concludes with a conceptual framework to guide future research in the area of designing a SCPM system and define the main aspects that should be considered when developing a SCPM system. Practical implications The paper brings a new dimension to the SCPM research by identifying the main functions of SCPM systems that could benefit practitioners to set up a SCPM system relevant to its intended function. The paper presents multiple potential stages of merging different functions in one SCPM system. Based on the company’s needs and context, the functionality of the SCPM system can be designed at four levels creating ten possible scenarios when designing a company’s SCPM system. Originality/value The paper integrated the literature and findings of 269 research papers of the last two decades, upon which a conceptual framework was developed as a guide for constructing an effective SCPM system.

The complement C3b/C4b receptor (CR1) is an integral protein, anchored in the plasma membrane through a hydrophobic domain of 25 amino acids, but is also found in the plasma in soluble form (sCR1). A recombinant, soluble form of CR1 has been demonstrated to reduce complement-dependent tissue injury in animal models of ischaemia/reperfusion. In view of the important pathophysiological relevance of sCR1, we have investigated the mechanisms governing CR1 release by using various mutated and chimaeric receptors transiently expressed in COS cells. Pulse-chase experiments revealed that (1) sCR1 is produced by a proteolytic process, (2) the cleavage site lies within the C-terminus of CR1 transmembrane domain, (3) the proteolytic process involves a fully glycosylated CR1 form and (4) this process takes place in late secretory vesicles or at the plasma membrane.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the concept of supply chain quality management (SCQM) and to propose a research model that considers the impact of SCQM practices on firm performance. Design/methodology/approach – Based on a comprehensive literature review, SCQM most relevant practices were analyzed and selected. These practices were categorized into four dimensions: upstream (supplier assessment, supplier quality management (QM)), downstream sides of a supply chain (customer focus), internal process (product/service design, process management and logistics) and support practices (top management support, human resource management, information and supply chain integration). The measurement instrument of firm performance was also developed, including three aspects: operational performance, customer satisfaction and financial performance. Findings – An innovative conceptual framework that provides a comprehensive picture covering core dimensions of SCQM and various aspects of firm performance was proposed. This conceptual framework can be used as “a guideline” for theory building and measurement instrument development of SCQM and firm performance. More importantly, on the road to gain a further insight, an extensive structural model that identifies direct and indirect relationships between SCQM and firm performance was also developed. Practitioners/managers can apply this model as “a road map” for implementing SCQM practices. Research limitations/implications – It is necessary to test the rationality of these models by using empirical studies in different contexts. Originality/value – The integration of quality and supply chain management still remains limited in the literature. Therefore, it is necessary to have a more focussed approach in assessing QM issues within the internal and external supply chain contexts. This study concentrates on the practices which improve quality aspects of the supply chain, known as SCQM practices. Proposed research models in this paper not only fill out the voids in the literature, but also contribute with conceptual frameworks for theory building in SCQM and firm performance. The authors also expect that this research can offer a useful guidance for measuring and implementing SCQM practices as well as facilitate further studies in this field.

Abstract Nowadays, interoperability of learning management systems is still not very high. The authoring tools can help transfer e-learning content between different learning management systems. However, in this context, they should be able to produce learning content that is compliant with some industry standards. One of the most widely used standards is the SCORM 1.2 release. The research addresses the extension of the functionality of the previously developed content development tool EMMA by incorporating into it the support for the subset of SCORM 1.2 requirements. The paper describes the process of the acquisition, implementation, and validation of the defined requirements. Moreover, it presents the results of the analysis of 33 SCORM authoring tools and 16 SCORM players.

There is a necessity to design a three-phase squirrel cage induction motor (SCIM) for high-speed applications with a larger air gap length in order to limit the distortion of air gap flux density, the thermal expansion of stator and rotor teeth, centrifugal forces, and the magnetic pull. To that effect, a larger air gap length lowers the power factor, efficiency, and torque density of a three-phase SCIM. This should inform motor design engineers to take special care during the design process of a three-phase SCIM by selecting an air gap length that will provide optimal performance. This paper presents an approach that would assist with the selection of an optimal air gap length (OAL) and optimal capacitive auxiliary stator winding (OCASW) configuration for a high torque per ampere (TPA) three-phase SCIM. A genetic algorithm (GA) assisted by finite element analysis (FEA) is used in the design process to determine the OAL and OCASW required to obtain a high torque per ampere without compromising the merit of achieving an excellent power factor and high efficiency for a three-phase SCIM. The performance of the optimized three-phase SCIM is compared to unoptimized machines. The results obtained from FEA are validated through experimental measurements. Owing to the penalty functions related to the value of objective and constraint functions introduced in the genetic algorithm model, both the FEA and experimental results provide evidence that an enhanced torque per ampere three-phase SCIM can be realized for a large OAL and OCASW with high efficiency and an excellent power factor in different working conditions.

This paper presents a switched capacitive reference driver (SCRD) with a low-energy switching scheme. In order to reduce the performance degradation resulting from a signal-dependent voltage drop in a capacitive reference driver (CRD) without increasing the capacitance (CREF) of a CRD, the proposed SCRD utilizes the CRD for LSB conversion cycles. In MSB conversion cycles, a supply voltage is used as a reference voltage to save on area and power consumption. As such, the proposed SCRD significantly relaxes the required CREF, and does not necessitate bit weight calibration or compensation requiring an auxiliary capacitor-based digital-to-analog converter (CDAC). To evaluate the proposed SCRD, a prototype 12-bit 40-MS/s SAR ADC is fabricated in a 65 nm CMOS process. With near Nyquist frequency, the measured spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) of the SAR ADC with the SCRD is 80.6 dB, which is about a 16 dB improvement from the SFDR of a SAR ADC with a CRD only.

Nanocrystalline silicon (nc-Si) films were deposited by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition from a SiH 4- H 2 gas mixture. The structural and optical properties of nc-Si films were examined by changing the flow rates of a H 2 gas or a SiF 4 gas diluted by He. The structural change from an amorphous to a nanocrystalline phase was found at H 2 flow rate ([ H 2]) higher than 3 sccm under [ SiF 4/ He ] = 0 sccm and/or by adding SiF 4/ He under [ H 2] = 0 sccm . However, under [ H 2] = 3 sccm, the maximum crystallinity (crystalline volume fraction, ρ) was observed at around [ SiF 4/ He ] = 2 sccm . The photoluminescence exhibited two peaks at around 1.7 eV and 2.2 - 2.3 eV. The first 1.7-eV-peak may be related to nanocrystallites in nc-Si films and the origin of another 2.2 - 2.3-eV-peak is not clear. Thus, hydrogen and fluorine appear to play different role in the crystallization process. In addition, under [ H 2] = 0 sccm , we found a close correlation among the increases in the ρ and the average grain size values and the SiH 2 density with increasing [ SiF 4/ He ].

AbstractChemical vapor deposition (CVD) process was conducted for synthesis of boron (B) doped aluminum nitride (B-AlN) thin films on aluminum (Al) substrates. To prevent melting of the Al substrates, film deposition was carried out at 500 °C using tert-buthylamine (tBuNH2) solution delivered through a bubbler as a nitrogen source instead of ammonia gas (NH3). B-AlN thin films were prepared from three precursors at changing process parameters (gas mixture ratio). X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique and atomic force microscope (AFM) were used to investigate the structural and surface properties of B-AlN thin films on Al substrates. The prepared thin films were polycrystalline and composed of mixed phases {cubic (1 1 1) and hexagonal (1 0 0)} of AlN and BN with different orientations. Intensive AlN peak of high intensity was observed for the film deposited at a flow rate of the total gas mixture of 25 sccm. As the total gas mixture flow decreased from 60 sccm to 25 sccm, the crystallite size of AlN phase increased and the dislocation density decreased. Reduced surface roughness (10.4 nm) was detected by AFM for B-AlN thin film deposited on Al substrate using the lowest flow rate (25 sccm) of the total gas mixture.

Organizations which provide electronic services do not have a logically structured strategy for implementing Customer Knowledge Management through Social media (SCKM). By assessing the position of SCKM, organizations can have a clear understanding of their maturity level and find their future investment interests. This research examined the maturity assessment of SCKM utilizing a fuzzy expert system. It consisted of a-four-stage procedure. The maturity model is based on 11 critical success factors, including strategy, leadership, information technology, knowledge management, culture, process, resources, business intelligence, security, social customer, and assessment. Results showed that the studied organization has covered 48.2% of maturity on the first level and 51.8% on the second level. Thus, to increase productivity, it is indispensable for organizations to act in a targeted way. The fuzzy expert system is not designed specifically for a case study, but can be utilized as a reference for in-depth analysis of the organizational readiness for SCKM implementation and development within organizations, which provide e-services applications.

PurposeFollowing a contingent resource-based view (CRBV) perspective, this paper aims to explore the operating context in which supply chain resilience (SCRE) is likely to enhance the supply chain performance (SCP) of organizations. More specifically, the authors developed the ‘Supply Chain Resilience’ model wherein we considered two important exogenous context variables (supply chain relational practices [SCRPs] and network complexities [NCs]) and studied their moderating roles on the relationship between SCRE and SCP. The authors also investigated the conditional effect of SCRE on SCP at different levels of SCRPs and NCs.Design/methodology/approachThis study used both qualitative and quantitative approaches. For the qualitative approach, a field study was undertaken, while the quantitative study was conducted via the use of a survey questionnaire of 274 apparel manufacturers and their suppliers in Bangladesh. The authors applied Hayes PROCESS enabled multiple regression analysis and structural equation modelling to statistically test the proposed research models.FindingsThe research findings revealed that SCRP and NC individually moderated the link between SCRE and SCP. The link between SCRE and SCP was strengthened via the interaction effect of SCRP and NC, even if the NC value was high.Practical implicationsThe findings will assist supply chain managers in managing supply chain performance during uncertainties by strengthening resilience capability at different levels of NCs and SCRPs.Originality/valueDrawing on CRBV, the authors studied how the conditional effects of exogenous variables (SCRP and NC) moderated the relationship between SCRE and SCP in both two- and three-way interactions, which is a novel approach in the SCRE literature and also extends the theoretical perspective of CRBV.

Indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films have been deposited on glass substrate by DC magnetron sputtering in the presence and absence of oxygen gas flux. Subsequently, some of the samples have been annealed in vacuum or air oven at [Formula: see text]C for 20[Formula: see text]min. The optical, surface morphology and electrical characteristics have been examined by spectrophotometry, atomic force microscope, field emission scanning electron microscopy, four-point probe and Hall effect measurements as a function of argon gas flux, film thickness, deposition rate and substrate temperature. Experimental results indicate that the surface roughness increases by decreasing the argon gas flow rate and deposition rate. The result revealed that the lowest surface roughness of 1.07[Formula: see text]nm is achieved at zero oxygen gas flux, argon gas flow 20[Formula: see text]sccm and deposition rate [Formula: see text] Å/s. We have found that the maximum value of merit figure is related to the argon gas flow rate 30[Formula: see text]sccm. In order to obtain a very smooth surface, finally, the ITO thin films have been processed with alumina polishing solution by ultrasonic method. Our experimental results indicate that surface roughness decreases and merit figure increases after polishing process.

Zinc Oxide (ZnO) thin films were deposited on thermally oxidized SiO2 by varying the oxygen flow rate. The deposition process were done using radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering at various oxygen flow rate ranging from 0 to 40 sccm. The surface morphology and crystallinity were analyzed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD) respectively. The average thickness and deposition rate decreases with an increase of oxygen content. The grain size was measured by FESEM and it was found that it is also decreasing with the increased of oxygen flow rate. The films grown with 10 sccm oxygen shows the highest (002) peak however it is expected that the sample deposited with 40 sccm oxygen exhibit the highest sensitivity toward NH3 gas due to the highest surface to volume ratio.

Physical modeling of the underground roadway in horizontal strata is carried out by using a newly developed physical modeling approach, the so-called “physically finite elemental slab assemblage (PFESA).” The numerical 2D digital image correlation (DIC) technology is used to carry out the real-time monitoring of the surface displacement of the model in the experimental process, and the axial force monitoring devices called the small bolt (SB) and small constant resistance bolt (SCRB) are designed for the real-time detection of the roadway mechanics data. The displacement information of the whole physical model experiment process is obtained through the DIC technology. The SCRB can be well used to the mechanical monitoring of the deformation and failure of the roadway, though the analysis of the displacement and mechanical monitoring data can get that the change of the mechanical monitoring data of SCRB in advance of the displacement, the information of instability destruction precursor in roadway surrounding rock is the continuous increase of mechanical monitoring value in a short time. The experiment provides reference for the stability monitoring and early warning of the roadway surrounding rock based on a constant resistance and large deformation rock bolt (CRLB).
