The concept of Enlightenment has long played an important role in the socio-political and socio-cultural life in Germany. It occupied a prominent place in the socio-political works of major philosophers, was used to describe the historical period, as well as a concept of political struggle. Despite the increasing time gap with the Enlightenment, the debate among German intellectuals around this concept continued in the second half of the twentieth century.
