Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) with hemorrhagic complications is at higher risk for breakthrough vitreous hemorrhage (VH). This study aimed to evaluate the clinical features and outcomes of breakthrough VH secondary to PCV. Data of patients receiving pars plana vitrectomy for breakthrough VH secondary to PCV (VH group) were evaluated retrospectively and compared statistically to data of age and sex-matched PCV patients without breakthrough VH (control group). Among PCV patients, 36 eyes with breakthrough VH and 62 eyes without VH were included. Compared with baseline, best corrected v

Abstract Aim: This study aims to determine the prevalence, causes, and systemic associations of vitreous hemorrhage (VH) among Nigerians. Materials and Methods: A multicenter cross-sectional study was conducted from January to December 2018. Data were obtained from patients diagnosed with retinal diseases at the general outpatient and retinal clinics of four eye departments in Nigeria. Patient histories were collected. All patients underwent visual acuity and comprehensive ocular examinations. VH was diagnosed clinically. Patients diagnosed with dense VH underwent ultrasonography. Data analysi

Introduction. The course and prognosis of vitreous hemorrhage (VH) are difficult to predict in spite of so far published experimental and clinical studies. Objective. The goal of this study was to follow the course and evaluate prognosis of vitreous hemorrhage. Methods. The experiment was performed on 19 Chinchilla rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus), both males and females (38 eyes), weighing 2500-3000 g, which were treated with autologous blood (B) from marginal ear vein - the first group, and the second group was treated with both blood and corticosteroids (B+CS). Vitreous hemorrhage (VH) is one of the main causes of vision loss in diabetic retinopathy (DRP). Early surgery increases the visibility of the retina, allowing early recognition of DRP complications and additional treatments. One of the most important reasons affecting success after surgery is recurrent vitreous hemorrhage (RVH). We aimed to investigate the risk factors for RVH after early 25G vitrectomy in diabetic VH. Eighty eyes of eighty patients who underwent early 25G PPV surgery with a diagnosis of VH due to proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) were included in this retrospective st

Background: Vitreous hemorrhage (VH) is one of the main causes of visual loss in patients with Diabetic Retinopathy. Initial management of VH is observation for 4-6 weeks. Non-clearing vitreous hemorrhage (NCVH) remains the most common indication for vitrectomy in such patients. The objective of the study was to investigate the surgical outcomes of 23-gauge vitrectomy with prior intravitreal bevacizumab for non-clearing diabetic vitreous hemorrhage. Abstract Point of care ultrasound in the emergency department (ED) is increasingly being used to diagnose time-sensitive, vision-threatening conditions. We present a case of a 64-year-old female who presented to the ED with a three-day history of worsening left eye floaters. Point of care ocular ultrasound demonstrated a posterior chamber containing many echogenic opacities of varying size without acoustic shadowing. Movement of the eye resulted in significant after-movement of these opacities, giving the classic “washing machine” appearance seen with vitreous hemorrhage (VH). Based on these u

Optic nerve head (ONH) avulsion can lead to irreversible complete loss of vision. The clinical signs are excavated optic disc area, vitreous hemorrhage (VH), preretinal hemorrhage, retinal detachment, and central retinal artery occlusion. Ultrasound (USG) B scan and computed tomography scan help detect the condition where a clear view of the fundus is obscured due to hyphema or VH. This prevents unnecessary treatment. Here, we discuss a case of ONH avulsion, associated complications, and the USG findings.
