Managing water deficits in coastal areas presents significant challenges amid current climate fluctuations. This study examines the hydrological and water management factors contributing to seawater intrusion along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Utilizing data from field monitoring and hydrological model simulations, the research highlights the anthropogenic impacts shaped by the structure and dynamics of water supply. Abstract Stainless steel water piping, used to supply coolant for remote chemical separations equipment, developed several leaks during low-flow conditions resulting from an extended interruption of operations. All the leaks occurred at welds in the bottom zone of the pipe, which was blanketed with silt deposits from the unfiltered well water used for cooling. A case study was conducted in the intermittent drinking water distribution system in Arraiján, Panamá, a rapidly growing peri-urban area west of Panama City. Pressure, flow, turbidity and chlorine were monitored continuously in four study zones with a variety of supply conditions. Water quality grab samples were collected from the continuous monitoringstations and household taps, and analyzed for turbidity, chlorine, and indicator bacteria. In addition, 3 years of pipe repair records were analyzed to estimate break rates in different areas of the distribution system.
