Background: For generations, surgical training has followed the example of an apprenticeship model. However, many doctors see this training as insufficient and potentially unsafe for the patient. Web-based simulation training for teaching laparoscopic surgery is not only becoming increasingly popular but is cheaper in comparison to the traditional apprenticeship method. Objective is to assess the educational value of web-based training videosMethods: Data was obtained through questionnaires sent to consultant surgeons and surgical trainees at three sites in North Queensland. Abstract Purpose During surgical residency, many learning methods are available to learn an inguinal hernia repair (IHR). This study aimed to investigate which learning methods are most commonly used and which are perceived as most important by surgical residents for open and endoscopic IHR. Methods European general surgery residents were invited to participate in a 9-item web-based survey that inquired which of the learning methods were used (checking one or more of 13 options) and what their perceived importance was on a 5-point Likert scale (1 = completely not important to 5 = very importan

The incidence of common bile duct injuries following laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) remains three times higher than that following open surgery despite numerous attempts to decrease intraoperative incidents by employing better training, superior surgical instruments, imaging techniques, or strategic concepts. Background: Prostate cancer (PC) is a major cause of disease and mortality among men. Surgical treatment involving the removal of the prostate may result in temporary or permanent erectile dysfunction (ED) and urinary incontinence (UI), with considerable impact on quality of life. Pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) is one of the recommended techniques for the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of postoperative complications. Reducing human errors by surgeons is of great importance to patient safety. The main drawback of current VR laparoscopic surgery training is that it only focuses on improving the proficiency of basic surgical skills while lacking the true representation of the busy and chaotic OR surroundings. Multiple distractions were introduced into this study to explore the influence on the laparoscopic surgery training process. A VR headset displayed a video of a laparoscopy procedure recorded by a 360° camera in a real OR, which contains various distractions occurring during the surgery. Ten surgical tra
