Анотація:
As agritourism has been gaining in popularity as a form of special interest tourism, researchers have investigated different aspects of this phenomenon. However, academic literature seems to be mostly atheoretical thus far. Considering the highly experiential nature of agritourism activities, the current study tested the potential power of experiential consumption dimensions on explaining visitor flow experience, satisfaction with, and loyalty toward an agritourism attraction located on a wine farm in South Africa. A large data set collected with an onsite survey was analyzed. The study reveals several theoretical findings and extends the literature on the experiential dimensions of agritourism/wine tourism/farm tourism, as well as providing practical implications that may aid operators of such attractions to make more informed decisions with regard to their tourism product and budget allocation.

Formulation of the problem. Winemaking in ATU Gagauzia is a strategic industry. The share of wine-making in the total industrial production of ATU Gagauzia is 60 per cent. The wine-making potential is represented by 16 wine-making enterprises. However, not all of them are ready to accept tourists and develop wine tourism. Setting the task, the purpose of the study. The study aimed to identify the heritage of wine tourism in the ATU Gagauzia, with the main aim of elaborating development strategies for the wine tourism potential and ensuring a sustainable regional development. Presentation of the main material (results of work). Viticulture and wine tourism (enotourism) is currently a promising and profitable direction for the development of rural tourism in rural areas. It includes not only learning the technology of growing grapes, wine production, but also learning the history, culture, and traditions of the region. The wine tourism, as part of rural tourism, directly contributes to the development of regional economic. In the EU policy, the development of enotourism plays an important role in the development of wine-makers services and employment growth in rural areas. Factors contributing to the development of wine tourism in ATU Gagauzia are: a special combination of climatic and soil conditions creates a favorable terroir for winemaking; high industry concentration of production and a wide assortment line of wine products; availability of development potential associated with viticulture and viniculture tourism: rural, environmental, gastronomic and ethnographic. Conclusions. There are three main strategic goals of development of the potential of viticulture and wine tourism in atu Gagauzia: development of tourist destinations of Gagauzia based on active wineries; formation of attractions (hotel and restaurant business, museums, folk crafts, concert organizations, and theater) around "zones of attraction" - wineries; promoting the emergence and development of network interaction of the main players of tourism development.

Анотація:
The main aim of the study is to show enotourism as a form of spending free time among Poles. The article presents the frequency and directions of enotourism journeys, motives of these travels and ways of spending time during this type of trips. Survey research were conducted among 223 adult Poles. The research was carried out in two stages: in May and October 2017. The questionnaire was submitted to the respondents through social media and thematic forums regarding wine and enotourism. For most respondents, it was relatively unimportant to study the secrets of viticulture or expand knowledge about wine-making and the traditions of the wine region. The possibility of traditional rest, physical activity during a trip or visiting nearby tourist attractions was definitely more important for them. It can be concluded that most Polish enotourists can be qualified as amateurs or dilettante/layman, for whom wine is an attraction that is used by the occasion and sometimes even by chance, and the decision about the place and direction of the trip is often based on a number of other conditions.

The consumption of traditional wine has decreased in Europe during the last fifteen years. In parallel, new wine alternatives obtained by blending wines and fruit juices or by flavoring wines with artificial or natural flavors have appeared on the market. Recently, an innovative fruit wine obtained by co-fermentation of grape must and kiwi juice has been proposed and its potential of attraction for consumers should be exploited. To assess the potential consumer acceptability and expectations towards this new product, an online choice experiment has been conducted involving a consumer group of young adults (18–35 years old; n = 373). After the data collection, participants were divided into two groups according to whether they had already tasted a fruit wine (neophiles) or had never tasted it (new entries). For each group, the individual’s responses (on wine consumption habits, expectations and willingness to consume and pay a fruit wine) were analyzed through Principal Component Analysis. Different consumption styles and expectation patterns were defined in the two groups. However, in general, neophiles showed consumption patterns based on the evaluation of fruit quality, sales format, alcoholic content and the presence or not of bubbles, not giving importance to the brand. In contrast, new entries’ responses identified consumption patterns driven by the willingness to pay for a new product, the product value for money and packaging features. Differences between the two groups in expectations about the product sensory characteristics also emerged. These findings should contribute to this area of study by integrating environmental, economic and social dimensions and addressing food innovation and sustainability in the fruit and wine chains.

The article describes the main components of the economy of the Krasnodar region, which provide leadership and a high level of competitiveness in the Russian economy. The investment climate of the Krasnodar region is estimated by many experts as quite high, which is confirmed by many authoritative interregional ratings. The analysis of priority sectors of the region’s economy to attract foreign investment, including: agriculture, food and processing industry, wine, health resort and tourist complex, manufacturing industry, information and communication technologies. The assessment of the dynamics of investment activity of the Krasnodar region, identified major investment projects currently being implemented. Analyzing the attraction of foreign investments, it is necessary to touch upon the issue of investment support, which is a multi-level process in the Krasnodar region, which has recently been ordered. Assessing the Krasnodar region as an attractive investment region and one of the leaders in terms of investment, with a very low investment risk, it is necessary to consider the existing problems in the region’s economy and attracting investors. Having studied the emerging problems on the way of investors, the possible directions of further development and improvement of the investment attractiveness of the Krasnodar region.

Purpose – This study aims to investigate the alignment of experience economy design priorities and perceptions of rural wine tourism suppliers (i.e. winery-farm owners, restaurateurs retailers, lodging providers, attraction operators) with tourists’ perceived experiences. Design/methodology/approach – Adapting the 4E (educational, escapist, esthetic and entertainment) measurement scales of Oh et al. (2007), a cross-sectional survey design was used to gather data from 169 suppliers and 970 wine tourists. Factor analyses, t-tests and ANOVA tests were used to explore differences. Findings – Supply-side cohesion among the four supplier groups appeared across all experiential design priorities and across three of the 4Es regarding their perceptions of the destination; esthetics was the exception. Significant differences between suppliers’ design priorities and visitors’ experiential perceptions were found on three experiential dimensions, and alignment on esthetics was revealed. Research limitations/implications – Unique attributes of the destination may have affected the results with further development of the supplier measurement scale recommended. Results of the tests that used surrogate variables should be approached with caution. Practical implications – The study underscores the esthetic experience’s importance to wine tourists and suppliers alike. Results suggest where suppliers should focus their efforts to improve wine tourists’ experiences and what suppliers may expect to emphasize rather than those emphasized by destination managers, i.e. entertainment and education. Originality/value – This is the first study to compare experience economy priorities of multiple supply-side stakeholders and wine tourists’ perceived experiences.

Abstract The Tokaj wine region is a unique, over a thousand-year-old wine-growing tradition in the world, which is a survival of a living cultural landscape. The Tokaj Wine Region Development Council was established in 2014 to lead the wine region’s Tokaj-Hegyalja National Program. The development concept in this priority program is aimed at promoting complex developments in the ecological balance of the Tokaj Wine Region, which are both natural, social, economic and cultural. The purpose of the paper is to present the region marketing idea in a world heritage wine region. This can be supported by primary and secondary research. The organization of the examined wine region development council and the key actors were asked. There was an inquiry at the wineries, 41 companies answered the questions. There are excellent specialists and the natural endowments are also suitable. The newly established Hungarian Tourism Office is the only hope that Community wine marketing can be really effective, and wineries can also experience its positive effect. There are 27 settlements in the wine region, there is a national park, and the tourism sector is only one that can be complementary to wine-making opportunities. Directions of development: winery, viticulture, infrared structure, tourism extension, culture, traditions, value preservation, hotel, attraction development, uniform appearance and coordination.

Анотація:
The approach to the territory’s biocultural fingerprint can be very important when it comes to studying uniformities and differences among different regions. By examining the code of the attributes and the features, it is therefore possible to determine the landscapecultural uniformities which can create a common project for tourism and residential attraction. The differences underline emergencies of a cultural, natural, agricultural, and wine-gastronomic nature which are capable not only of rendering a territory identifiable but also of presenting it to integrated tourist packages and residential perspectives. The objective of this research is to verify the competitive ability which can enhance the potentialities of ‘territorial capital’. This comparative study amongst the fingerprints of the Lombardy and Veneto regions uses a model which can appraise the tourism and residential attraction determining the attributes’ code characterizing homogeneous sets of municipalities.

Анотація:
This study examines how wineries in Skåne market themselves as a visitor business. What their work on marketing strategies looks like and what attractiveness wineries have. It is a qualitative study based on semi-structured interviews with winery owners and winemakers from four different wineries in Skåne. The vineyards that were selected are Flädie Mat & Vingård, Hällåkra Vingård, Kullabergs Vingård and Skepparps Vingård. The results show that wineries have become an attraction for foreign visitors and that there has been an increase in Swedish visitors to the wineries in recent years. People are curious and find vineyards as a new attraction in Sweden. Social media was considered as the most used marketing channels to market the vineyards and their offerings. Another strategy has been word-of-mouth to spread the word to friends and family. Many of the wineries see opportunities to further develop their business, partly their winery, but also to attract more visitors. Challenges for the vineyards are partly the climate but have mainly been the ban on farm trade, which prevents wine tourism from being fully experienced. The ban means that they cannot sell their wine directly to the consumer but need to either sell it at Systembolaget or have a restaurant business with full rights to serve wine to their visitors. The conclusion that can be drawn is that it showed that the pandemic has had an impact in that wineries have had more Swedish visitors in the past year as people have not been able to travel abroad during the summer due to the restrictions of the Covid-19 virus, several people from Sweden choose to spend their holiday in Sweden, hence a higher pressure on visits to vineyards. The marketing of wineries to be a niche attraction has also made more people visit the business by marketing it via social media, which is considered a powerful tool to reach out to people.

This study examines the effect of an area-wide pedestrianisation scheme linking town centre attractions with pedestrianised streets, considering the impact on commercial activities in a large town centre. Currently, pedestrianisation is required to play a role as a linkage for pedestrians between attractions and nearby stations. However, this is still an individual approach by improving streets around an individual attraction, paying little attention to an area-wide approach of pedestrianisation linking attractions to each other to create an urban street network for pedestrians. Area-wide pedestrianisation could be more effective in a large town centre that has many attractions and stations within walking distance of one another. Moreover, the effectiveness of area-wide pedestrianisation could be attributed to the street configuration of pedestrianisation rather than the size of a pedestrianisation area. Accordingly, in a large town centre, area-wide pedestrianisation could enhance the effect of individual pedestrianisation between attractions and nearby stations by linking attractions to each other. This study works on a key research question about whether area-wide pedestrianisation could be more effective than individual pedestrianisation in terms of the benefits of pedestrian accessibility and economic viability. To answer the question, a pedestrian flow model and commercial land-use model are developed based on multiple regression analysis with empirical data to predict effects on accessibility and economic viability from the individual and area-wide pedestrianisation schemes. Then, an assessment of the schemes is conducted with the implementation of a simulation using the developed models in a case study area by identifying the most effective street configuration of each scheme. The West End area in Central London is employed as a most-likely case study area to expect the effects of the area-wide pedestrianisation scheme. The result of this study shows that area-wide pedestrianisation has a greater effect than individual pedestrianisation.

The increase in wind energy production has been relatively rapid and is expected to continue at a global scale. However, numbers of bat carcasses found at wind turbines in North America in the early 21st century raised concern about the plight of this taxon with the growth in wind-energy generation. This led to carcass searches for bats becoming commonplace at wind farms globally. However, few large scale systematic studies have assessed the effects of wind turbines on bats, especially for species considered potentially at higher risk in Europe. In this thesis the number and species of bats killed from wind farms were estimated across Britain, and the important predictors (i.e. activity, turbine characteristics and habitat) of fatality were determined. Insect abundance, biomass and bat activity was also quantified at turbine and control locations, to assess if insects and hence bats were attracted to turbines. In addition, assessments were made of the effects of increasing temporal and spatial replication of acoustic monitoring on estimates of species composition and bat activity. This was assessed for activity monitored at ground and at the centre of the rotor sweep area (the nacelle). Carcass searches were conducted using trained search dogs and concurrently bats were surveyed acoustically at three randomly selected turbines at ground and from the nacelle at 48 wind farms throughout Britain. Bats were also monitored acoustically at paired controls (with a randomly selected turbine) at 20 of the wind farms sites. In addition, nocturnal Diptera were sampled at 18 of the sites using a paired turbine and control design. Across 139 wind turbines, 188,335 bat passes were recorded and 2,973 carcass searches performed. Edge and open aerial foraging species, in particular Pipistrellus pipistrellus and P. pygmaeus were most at risk of fatality 4 at wind farms in Britain. The number of Pipistrellus pipistrellus killed annually in Britain between mid-July and mid-October was estimated at 2,373 95% CI 513 to 4,233 and the number of P. pygmaeus at 3,082 95% CI 1,270 to 4,894. When compared to population estimates, the number of Pipistrellus pygmaeus killed was 57% higher than the number of P. pipistrellus killed (0.19% of the population versus 0.43%, respectively). This may be due to Pipistrellus pygmaeus flying more often within the rotor sweep area compared to P. pipistrellus. Activity measured at the nacelle, which is generally assumed to be a better predictor of fatalities, was not a significant predictor of the probability of a fatality for all species combined, Pipistrellus pipistrellus, or P. pygmaeus. Pipistrellus pipistrellus activity and P. pygmaeus activity, measured at ground level were not good predictors of their respective fatalities. Whilst there was some evidence that Pipistrellus pipistrellus and P. pygmaeus activity monitored at ground level, was a significant predictor of the probability of their respective fatalities occurring, across wide ranging turbine types, fatality estimates were large. This is presumably due to the importance of turbine characterises (the wind speed that turbines become operational (cut-in speeds) turbine and the distance between the ground and blade tip at the bottom of the rotor sweep area) both being important negative predictors of fatalities for Pipistrellus pipistrellus. Predicting from models, if the cut-in speed is increased from 3.5 to 5 m s-1 the number of Pipistrellus pipistrellus fatalities would be reduced by 76% (0.23 fatalities per turbine per month to 0.06). These findings have important implications for guidance, since activity is the ubiquitous measure used to assess fatality risk for all species. Since, Pipistrellus pipistrellus and P. pygmaeus were detected at 98% and 92% of sites respectively; it could be 5 assumed that these species would be detected at the majority of wind farms within their range. Therefore, in a British context, curtailing wind turbines below 5 m s-1 could be an effective mitigation strategy without the costly requirement to monitor activity. Pipistrellus pipistrellus and P. pygmaeus activity was 46% (6.3 ± 1.3 SE mean passes per night c.f. 3.4 ± 1.3 SE) and 34% (4.0 ± 1.4 SE c.f. 2.7 ± 1.4 SE) higher at turbines compared to controls, respectively. Given that habitat and elevation were consistent between paired turbines and controls and monitoring was conducted on the same nights, higher activity at turbines compared to controls provides evidence that these two species are attracted to wind turbines. Furthermore, since the biomass of nocturnal Diptera, the main insect prey for Pipistrellus spp., was higher at controls compared to turbines, and bat foraging at turbines was not predicted by insect abundance or biomass, attraction is unlikely to be due to insects. Evidence presented here shows that bats are attracted to turbines, and therefore measuring activity at pre-construction sites for environmental impact assessments is unlikely to be effective. In conclusion, these results provide further evidence that common species are killed but generally in relatively low numbers, they also support the view that monitoring activity for assessing fatality risk at wind farms is ineffective. It is imperative that wind energy is developed using an evidence based approach. However, it also important that wind energy continues to contribute to an increasing renewable energy sector. In conclusion, results presented here, support that wind turbines are likely to be having a small impact on bat populations in Britain.

Abstract In this paper, several three dimensional (3-D) four-wing smooth quadratic autonomous chaotic systems are analyzed. It is shown that these systems have a number of similar features. A new 3-D continuous autonomous system is proposed based on these features. The new system can generate a four-wing chaotic attractor with less terms in the system equations. Several basic properties of the new system is analyzed by means of Lyapunov exponents, bifurcation diagrams and Poincare maps. Phase diagrams show that the equilibria are related to the existence of multiple wings.

This paper introduces a new 3-D quadratic autonomous system, which can generate two coexisting single-wing chaotic attractors and a pair of diagonal double-wing chaotic attractors. More importantly, the system can generate a fourwing chaotic attractor with very complicated topological structures over a large range of parameters. Some basic dynamical behaviors and the compound structure of the new 3-D system are investigated. Detailed bifurcation analysis illustrates the evolution processes of the system among two coexisting sinks, two coexisting periodic orbits, two coexisting single-wing chaotic attractors, major and minor diagonal double-wing chaotic attractors, and a four-wing chaotic attractor. Poincare´-map analysis shows that the system has extremely rich dynamics. The physical existence of the fourwing chaotic attractor is verified by an electronic circuit. Finally, spectral analysis shows that the system has an extremely broad frequency bandwidth, which is very desirable for engineering applications such as secure communications.

Abstract This paper presents a new four-dimensional (4-D) smooth quadratic autonomous chaotic system, which can present periodic orbit, chaos, and hyperchaos under the conditions on different parameters. Importantly, the system can generate a four-wing hyper-chaotic attractor and a pair of coexistent doublewing hyper-chaotic attractors with two symmetrical initial conditions. Furthermore, a four-wing transient chaos occurs in the system. The dynamic analysis approach- in the paper involves time series, phase portraits, Poincaré maps, bifurcation diagrams, and Lyapunov exponents, to investigate some basic dynamical behaviors of the proposed 4-D system.

There are large gaps in our understanding how fish populations are affected by the anthropogenic noise and the alteration of habitat caused by the construction and operation of offshore wind farms. These issues are of great importance as the construction of offshore wind farms will increase all over the world in the near future. This thesis studies these effects with a focus on fish. The wind turbine foundations function as artificial reefs and are colonized by invertebrates, algae and fish. The epibenthic assemblages are influenced by factors such as hydrographical parameters, time of submergence, distance to natural hard bottom, material and texture (PAPER I, II). Once an epibenthic assemblage has been developed, fish utilize it for different ecosystem services such as food, shelter, and spawning and nursery area. Benthic and semi-pelagic species show a stronger response to the introduced foundation than pelagic species, as it is the bottom habitat that has mainly been altered (PAPER I, II). Pelagic species could be positively affected by the increased food availability - but it takes time and the effect is local. Construction noise like pile driving creates high levels of sound pressure and acoustic particle motion in the water and seabed. This noise induces behavioural reactions in cod (Gadus morhua) and sole (Solea solea). These reactions could occur up to tens of kilometres distance from the source (PAPER III). During power production, the wind turbines generate a broadband noise with a few dominating tones (PAPER IV, V), which are detectable by sound pressure sensitive fish at a distance of several kilometres even though intense shipping occurs in the area. Motion sensitive species will only detect the turbine noise at around a ten meter distance. Sound levels are only high enough to possibly cause a behavioural reaction within meters from a turbine (PAPER IV, V).

The wine market in Taiwan has been steadily growing for over a decade, only slightly shrinking 0.5% in 2008 during the global financial crisis. Yet, there have been very few studies on the Taiwan wine market. Considering the complexity of information on wine, a product with hundreds of thousands of labels produced around the world, this study examines the influence of information in consumers’ choice of purchase channels. Specifically, this study examines the differences between consumers’ with high and low objective knowledge in terms of product involvement, experience, subjective knowledge, and their choice of purchase channels, which offer different amounts of wine information. Data was gathered via an online questionnaire survey and included 112 samples. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, reliability test, chi-square test, independent sample t-test, and Pearson correlation analysis. Consumers of the high objective knowledge group were found to be more involved, have higher confidence in their knowledge, and preferred purchase channels with high available information. An interesting finding was that the average experience of consumers in the high objective knowledge group was significantly lower than consumers in the low objective knowledge group, indicating that a new generation of more involved consumers with higher levels of product knowledge has appeared. This new generation of wine consumers spends significantly more (higher percentage) at channels with high available information (63.86% 〉 26.53%) compared with consumers in the low objective knowledge group.

We analyze beauty pageants from an evolutionary perspective, with the goal of providing a unique insight into a novel cultural practice. Through a detailed review of adult and children beauty pageants, we propose that pageants elicit intrasexually competitive behaviors that would typically be seen within a mating context. In real-world settings, women’s intrasexual competition is often focused on gaining and possessing resources, typically through mate attraction and retention. While there is no mate to “win” in pageants, there is a substantial amount of status and resources to be gained by the winner. Further, the context also highlights individual differences in such mating-relevant attributes as physical attractiveness, talent, and compassion. We propose that beauty competitions feature traits that heterosexual men find attractive in a mate (e.g., indicators of youth, fertility, long-term commitment, virginity, intelligence, and creativity). Finally, we discuss future avenues of evolutionary research in the context of beauty pageants.

AbstractAdditive Manufacturing has proven to be an economically and industrially attractive process in building or repairing parts. However, the major issue of this new process is to guarantee a mechanical behavior identical to the subtractive manufacturing methodologies. The work, presented in this paper, is centered on the Laser Wire Metal Deposition (LMD-w) method with the metallic alloy TA6V. Its working principle is to fuse a coaxial wire on a substrate with a laser as a heat source. To better understand the interaction between the input parameters (Laser Power, Wire Feed Speed and Tool Speed) and the clad geometry output variables (Height, Width and Contact Angle) and the substrate displacement, we have realized an experimentation. We printed 9 clads according Taguchi’s experimental design. Pearson correlation coefficient and Fisher test performed on the experimental measures showed as main result: Tool Speed is the parameter with the most significant influence on the output variables.

Wines are here to stay and there are many wine related service providers in many wine tasting destinations and vineyards vying to grab this upcoming dining market. Although the concept of wine tasting is in its nascent stage in India, there are many vineyards which have come up, primarily in the Nashik and Pune region of Maharastra state. One of the attractions for those following the wine trails in India are not only the domestic tourists but also by the foreign tourists who love having Indian foods pairing with the Indian wines. These wine tasting tours satisfy the customers and visitors of affluent class only who are of three levels: aromatic, visual and on the palate. Unlike most Western nations where wine is an essential part of everyday dining, Indian wines are still a part of exclusive fine dining experience affordable mostly to the selective elite or more recently to the upper middle class city folks. But the recent influx of these winemakers in the mainstream Indian Fine dining market has helped enlarge this market.

In this chapter a brief review is given of computational systems that are motivated by information processing in the brain, an area that is often called neurocomputing or artificial neural networks. While this is now a well studied and documented area, specific emphasis is given to a subclass of such models, called continuous attractor neural networks, which are beginning to emerge in a wide context of biologically inspired computing. The frequent appearance of such models in biologically motivated studies of brain functions gives some indication that this model might capture important information processing mechanisms used in the brain, either directly or indirectly. Most of this chapter is dedicated to an introduction to this basic model and some extensions that might be important for their application, either as a model of brain processing, or in technical applications. Direct technical applications are only emerging slowly, but some examples of promising directions are highlighted in this chapter.

Abstract Enhancing the thermal conductivity of phase change materials (PCMs) is attracting attention for renewable energy applications such as solar, geothermal and wind energy. The use of energy storage can significantly improve the efficiency of renewable energy systems due to their intermittent nature. Latent heat thermal energy storage is a particularly attractive technique due to its high capacity can store energy at near constant temperature corresponding to the phase transition temperature of the PCMs. The present work aims to overcome this undesirable property of low thermal conductivity by manipulating metal fillers including nickel (Ni) nanoparticles/nanowires within the paraffin wax to improve its thermal property. In present work, a finite element method (FEM) was developed to obtain a fundamental understanding of the behavior of the Ni particles/wires under a uniform magnetic field by predefined magnetic pads. In the model, the Navier-Stokes equations were introduced as governing equations for the fluid field and the magnetic field was simulated by Maxwell’s equations. Then the motion of single Ni wire was modeled and the translation and rotational movements of the wire was studied in this paper.

Environmentally clean and green energy is becoming increasingly a requirement of electric power delivery systems. The focus on energy security and terrorism makes an indigenous, sustainable and distributed energy resource increasingly attractive. Distributed wind power has been shown to be a good and economic means for generating clean power in good wind sites, even on an intermittent basis. However, the best wind sites are located offshore where deeper water makes current large bladed windmills uneconomic. A low cost and patently unique modular wind power technology, designated a Wind Amplified Rotor Platform (WARP™) system technology, has been investigated which projects attractive technical and economic benefits when tension leg deployed in deeper water sites where big rotor windmills are impractical. Under marine offshore use these designated e-Sea WARP™ units may include integral gas turbines or fuel cells. The latter may cogenerate with WARP windpower generated hydrogen fuel stored in onboard buoyancy tanks to supply ondemand electric energy which may be shown to be under $.02/kWhr to under $.04/kWhr. Electrical loads from electric utilities, military facilities or on-board naval operations may be serviced. Large environmental, economic, and strategic benefits may be realized by use of this technology for commercial and/or naval/coast guard sentry operations. In essence, e-Sea WARP™ systems may provide sustainable ultra-clean on-demand electricity to onboard naval systems or to nearby energy demand centers on shore by submarine cable from normally excellent wind sites miles from shore at sea.

Linear cantilevered piezoelectric energy harvesters typically rely on excitation around a resonance frequency for peak operation. Compounding the problem, typical ambient environments either vary dynamically in time or possess energy distributed across a wide spectrum of frequencies. Nonlinear broadband techniques have been implemented with success, but rely on chance that steady-state high energy orbits result as opposed to the low energy or chaotic trajectories that coexist in the basin of attraction. This work aims to implement two high dimensional chaotic controllers for large period orbits located within the chaotic attractor. The first control law is defined using traditional OGY, while the second uses the principles of invariant manifolds and is therefore independent of the system Jacobian. Comparison of the two control methods aims to show that invariant principles are less computationally intensive and result in equivalent stabilized orbits. Furthermore, the only necessary measurement for control design is a single time series representing a state of the system. This article compares two methods of chaos control and their ability to stabilize a large period orbit within the chaotic attractor for improved broadband piezoelectric energy harvesting.

Persistent gendered assumptions about women and violence predominately depict women as non-violent and peaceful. Due to this gender blindness and simplistic frames used to understand the attraction of women toward far-right extremist groups, women tend to get overlooked as active participants, and their roles ignored or downplayed. This not only hinders the overall understanding of far-right extremist groups but also impedes the development of effective counterprograms that specifically address the experiences and paths of these women. Drawing from the experiences and insights of German initiatives and from additional literature on the topic, this policy note explores the wide-ranging motivations of women joining far-right extremist groups and the different roles they can play in them. By including wider research to why women leave far-right extremist groups, the policy note offers lessons learned and recommendations that may be helpful in optimizing prevention and exit programs aimed at women in far-right extremist groups beyond the German context.

The Energy Savings Insurance Program seeks to promote investment in energy efficiency and distributed generation in Latin America, primarily through small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It focuses on developing an innovative scheme of guaranteed energy performance that mitigates project risk and generates investor confidence (ESI Model). The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) facilitates the development of the ESI Program in alliance with the National Development Banks (NDBs). The ESI Model includes a contract for the supply, installation, and maintenance of equipment for generating a stipulated amount of energy or energy savings over a specific time period; validation by an independent body; insurance coverage that backs the savings or the guaranteed energy generation; and project financing. This paper describes the main attributes of the ESI Model (the contract, the insurance, validation and financing), evaluates market potential and the most attractive technologies, and identifies the priority sectors for implementing projects in Chile. The most promising economic sectors were found to be the hospitality industry, food processing industry, grape growing/wine production, and the fishing industry, and the technologies of electric motors, boilers, air conditioning systems and photovoltaic solar generation. In each of these sectors, estimates were made of financing requirements as well as CO2 emission reductions that could be achieved.

Structured financing solutions encompass a range of investment approaches that provide liquidity to investors without the need for a traditional equity exit event, such as a strategic sale, sale to another financial investor, or public market listing. Structuring mechanisms across the debt-to-equity spectrum determine the exit terms of the deal, therefore providing considerable downside protection to investors. Structured financing solutions are an incipient but increasingly important set of tools for investors active in Latin America to address the financing gap for companies that lack access to bank financing and are not attractive targets for traditional PE and VC players. Many investors employing these strategies are in an experimental phase, reporting new lessons learned with each deal completed. Impact investors have been among the top drivers of these structuring innovations, as they have grappled with the additional limitations associated with the straight equity model for environmental or social enterprises. However, the use of structured financing is by no means restricted to the impact investing space. Fund managers have invested USD4b in private credit deals in Latin America since 2018, more than the previous ten years combined. PE and VC investors have also increasingly employed quasi-equity and debt instruments. ACON Investments, for example, has employed mezzanine structures in several deals from its latest funds. Brazil-focused venture capital firm SP Ventures has recently begun investing from its debut venture debt fund. Growing experimentation by fund managers demonstrates the opportunity for investors across ticket sizes, strategies, and the impact-to-commercial spectrum. The structures discussed and the case studies highlighted in this report contain some of the major lessons applicable to a wide group of private capital investors in Latin America targeting certain and timely exits with consistent returns.
