Keamanan dan kerahasiaan dokumen merupakan aspek yang sangat penting dalam dunia informasi sekarang ini, terlebih bagi instansi pemerintah, apalagi informasi yang disimpan dan dikirim bersifat penting dan rahasia. Kriptografi merupakan salah satu solusi atau metode pengamanan dokumen yang tepat untuk menjaga kerahasiaan dan keaslian dokumen, serta dapat meningkatkan aspek keamanan suatu dokumen atau informasi. Algoritma kriptografi yang digunakan untuk enkripsi dan dekripsi dokumen adalah algoritma Advanced Encryption Standard (AES-256) dan menggunakan kunci simetris pada proses enkripsi dan dekripsi. Aplikasi Akrid (Aplikasi Kriptografi Dokumen) yang dirancang adalah sebuah aplikasi kriptografi menggunakan metode algoritma Advanced Encryption Standard (AES-256), berbasis client server yang dapat dijadikan sebagai alternatif untuk mengamankan dokumen rahasia. Aplikasi ini ditujukan untuk mengamankan dokumen dengan format: .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .pdf dan .text; dan dapat dilihat berapa lama waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk proses enkripsi dan dekripsi. Hasil dari penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa algoritma kriptografi AES dapat diimplementasikan pada proses enkripsi dan dekripsi dokumen dengan waktu enkripsi 0,212 second untuk dokumen ukuran 19,212 Kb dan 20,533 second untuk dokumen ukuran 1.966 Kb sedangkan pada proses dekripsi membutuhkan waktu 0,213 second untuk dokumen ukuran 19,212 Kb dan 20,882 second untuk dokumen dengan ukuran 1.966 Kb. Jadi proses enkripsi dan dekripsi dokumen dengan file berformat doc, docx, xls, xlsx, pdf atau text membutuhkan waktu rata-rata sekitar 0,01 second/1 Kb.

В статье предлагается решение задачи расширения функционала информационного лингвистического ресурса (а именно: определение оптимального расположения новых данных, настройка доступа к БД и обновление системы пополнения базы данных), возникшей в связи с использованием новых источников данных в рамках расширяющейся теории криптоклассного анализа. В результате работы: 1) возможность получения раздельного доступа к источникам информации реализована в виде разделов системы, доступ к каждому из которых осуществляется через главное меню; 2) стала доступна загрузка данных в новые разделы системы; 3) реализована возможность использования .xls и .xlsx в качестве форматов загружаемых файлов и т.д. Указанные изменения позволили адаптировать систему для осуществления работы с данными, полученными из лингвистических корпусов GloWbE, NOW и iWeb, а также сделать ее более функциональной и удобной для использования.

ABSTRACTHemicellulose, the second most abundant plant biomass fraction after cellulose, is widely viewed as a potential substrate for the production of liquid fuels and other value-added materials. Degradation of hemicellulose by filamentous fungi requires production of many different enzymes, which are induced by biopolymers or its derivatives and regulated mainly at the transcriptional level through transcription factors (TFs).Neurospora crassa, a model filamentous fungus, expresses and secretes enzymes required for plant cell wall deconstruction. To better understand genes specifically associated with degradation of hemicellulose, we applied secretome and transcriptome analysis toN. crassagrown on beechwood xylan. We identified 34 secreted proteins and 353 genes with elevated transcription on xylan. The xylanolytic phenotype of strains with deletions in genes identified from the secretome and transcriptome analysis of the wild type was assessed, revealing functions for known and unknown proteins associated with hemicellulose degradation. By evaluating phenotypes of strains containing deletions of predicted TF genes inN. crassa, we identified a TF (XLR-1;xylan degradationregulator1) essential for hemicellulose degradation that is an ortholog to XlnR/XYR1 inAspergillusandTrichodermaspecies, respectively, a major transcriptional regulator of genes encoding both cellulases and hemicellulases. Deletion ofxlr-1inN. crassaabolished growth on xylan and xylose, but growth on cellulose and cellulolytic activity were only slightly affected. To determine the regulatory mechanisms for hemicellulose degradation, we explored the transcriptional regulon of XLR-1 under xylose, xylanolytic, and cellulolytic conditions. XLR-1 regulated only some predicted hemicellulase genes inN. crassaand was required for a full induction of several cellulase genes. Hemicellulase gene expression was induced by a combination of release from carbon catabolite repression (CCR) and induction. This systematic analysis illustrates the similarities and differences in regulation of hemicellulose degradation among filamentous fungi.

The article outlines the development of local open data portals in Ukraine and their importance of the open public information space`s formation. It is substantiated that local open data portals are designed to play one of the pivotal roles in providing the media and citizens with up-to-date information on the activities of local authorities. The functional characteristics of open data portals of nine Ukrainian cities are outlined: Lviv, Dnipro, Vinnytsia, Kramatorsk, Mariupol, Dubno, Kolomyia, Bakhmut, Slavuta. It is determined that the process of development and improvement of city open data portals is underway in Ukraine, in particular, recommendations for the unified culture of data disclosure have been made, however, in practice it has not been implemented yet. One of the positive changes is the increase in the number of datasets in machine-readable formats XLS/XLSX and CSV, while much less sets in nonmachine-readable formats DOC and PDF are published.

The transcriptional activator XlnR from Aspergillus niger is a zinc binuclear cluster transcription factor that belongs to the GAL4 superfamily. Several putative structural domains in XlnR were predicted using database and protein sequence analysis. Thus far, only the functionality of the N-terminal DNA-binding domain has been determined experimentally. Deletion mutants of the xlnR gene were constructed to localize the functional regions of the protein. The results showed that a putative C-terminal coiled-coil region is involved in nuclear import of XlnR. After deletion of the C-terminus, including the coiled-coil region, XlnR was found in the cytoplasm, while deletion of the C-terminus downstream of the coiled-coil region resulted in nuclear import of XlnR. The latter mutant also showed increased xylanase activity, indicating the presence of a region with an inhibitory function in XlnR-controlled transcription. Previous findings had already shown that a mutation in the XlnR C-terminal region resulted in transcription of the structural genes under non-inducing conditions. A regulatory model of XlnR is presented in which the C-terminus responds to repressing signals, resulting in an inactive state of the protein.

ABSTRACT The expression of genes encoding enzymes involved in xylan degradation and two endoglucanases involved in cellulose degradation was studied at the mRNA level in the filamentous fungusAspergillus niger. A strain with a loss-of-function mutation in the xlnR gene encoding the transcriptional activator XlnR and a strain with multiple copies of this gene were investigated in order to define which genes are controlled by XlnR. The data presented in this paper show that the transcriptional activator XlnR regulates the transcription of thexlnB, xlnC, and xlnD genes encoding the main xylanolytic enzymes (endoxylanases B and C and β-xylosidase, respectively). Also, the transcription of the genes encoding the accessory enzymes involved in xylan degradation, including α-glucuronidase A, acetylxylan esterase A, arabinoxylan arabinofuranohydrolase A, and feruloyl esterase A, was found to be controlled by XlnR. In addition, XlnR also activates transcription of two endoglucanase-encoding genes, eglA andeglB, indicating that transcriptional regulation by XlnR goes beyond the genes encoding xylanolytic enzymes and includes regulation of two endoglucanase-encoding genes.

MATSAS is a script-based MATLAB program for analysis of X-ray and neutron small-angle scattering (SAS) data obtained from various facilities. The program has primarily been developed for sedimentary rock samples but is equally applicable to other porous media. MATSAS imports raw SAS data from .xls(x) or .csv files, combines small-angle and very small angle scattering data, subtracts the sample background, and displays the processed scattering curves in log–log plots. MATSAS uses the polydisperse spherical (PDSP) model to obtain structural information on the scatterers (scattering objects); for a porous system, the results include specific surface area (SSA), porosity (Φ), and differential and logarithmic differential pore area/volume distributions. In addition, pore and surface fractal dimensions (D p and D s, respectively) are obtained from the scattering profiles. The program package allows simultaneous and rapid analysis of a batch of samples, and the results are then exported to .xlsx and .csv files with separate spreadsheets for individual samples. MATSAS is the first SAS program that delivers a full suite of pore characterizations for sedimentary rocks. MATSAS is an open-source package and is freely available at GitHub (https://github.com/matsas-software/MATSAS).

Fungal infection of plants involves degradation of the host cell wall through the action of lytic enzymes secreted by the pathogen. The role of these enzymes in virulence is difficult to determine due to their functional redundancy and, therefore, remains controversial. Here, we have studied XlnR, a zinc-finger transcription factor from the vascular wilt pathogen Fusarium oxysporum that is orthologous to the major transcriptional activator of xylanase genes in Aspergillus spp. Transcription of the xlnR gene was activated by inducing carbon sources such as oat spelt xylan (OSX) and repressed by glucose. Targeted knockout of xlnR in F. oxysporum resulted in lack of transcriptional activation of structural xylanase genes, both in culture and during infection of tomato plants, as well as in dramatically reduced extracellular xylanase activity. By contrast, overexpression of xlnR under the control of the Aspergillus nidulans gpdA promoter did not significantly increase xylanase activity, suggesting that XlnR is regulated not only at the transcriptional but also at the post-translational level. The ΔxlnR mutants were still fully virulent on tomato plants. Thus, XlnR, the major transcriptional activator of xylanase genes, is not an essential virulence determinant in F. oxysporum.

The importance of Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) Systems, whose job is to generate text from audio, is increasing as the number of applications of these systems is rapidly going up. However, when it comes to training ASR systems, the process is difficult and rather tedious, and that could be attributed to the lack of training data. ASRs require huge amounts of annotated training data containing the audio files and the corresponding accurately written transcript files. This annotated (labeled) training data is very difficult to find for most of the languages, it usually requires people to perform the annotation manually which, apart from the monetary price it costs, is error-prone. A supervised training task is impractical for this scenario.  The Arabic language is one of the languages that do not have an abundance of labeled data, which makes its ASR system's accuracy very low compared to other resource-rich languages such as English, French, or Spanish. In this research, we take advantage of unlabeled voice data by learning general data representations from unlabeled training data (only audio files) in a self-supervised task or pre-training phase. This phase is done by using wav2vec 2.0 framework which masks out input in the latent space and solves a contrastive task. The model is then fine-tuned on a few amounts of labeled data. We also exploit models that have been pre-trained on different languages, by using wav2vec 2.0, for the purpose of fine-tuning them on Arabic language by using annotated Arabic data.   We show that using wav2vec 2.0 framework for pre-training on Arabic is considerably time and resource-consuming. It took the model 21.5 days (about 3 weeks) to complete 662 epochs and get a validation accuracy of 58%.  Arabic is a right-to-left (rtl) language with many diacritics that indicate how letters should be pronounced, these two features make it difficult for Arabic to fit into these models, as it requires heavy pre-processing for the transcript files. We demonstrate that we can fine-tune a cross-lingual model, that is trained on raw waveforms of speech in multiple languages, on Arabic data and get a low word error rate 36.53%. We also prove that by fine-tuning the model parameters we can increase the accuracy, thus, decrease the word error rate from 54.00% to 36.69%.

Mutations in the Abnormal Spindle-like Microcephaly-associated (ASPM) gene are the most common cause of primary microcephaly, a rare condition characterized by a severe reduction of brain size at birth. Several studies allowed to identify ASPM as a centrosome and mitotic spindle protein that regulates cell division and spindle orientation. However, little is known about ASPM molecular mechanisms, especially in human neural cells relevant to the disease. In order to decipher the molecular mechanisms of action of ASPM in human corticogenesis, we used co-immunoprecipitation (coIP) followed by mass spectrometry to identify the interactors of ASPM in human HEK cells and human cortical progenitors differentiated from pluripotent stem cells engineered to tag the endogenous ASPM protein. We thus identified and validated 14 ASPM interactors of which 12 are newly reported, and seven are found specifically in neural cells, including the important spindle pole regulator Nuclear mitotic apparatus (NUMA). We then characterized the expression and localization of the identified proteins in human cortical progenitors differentiated from control and isogenic ASPM mutant cells. This revealed that many of the identified proteins are selectively located at the spindle pole, and that this selective localization is disrupted in mutant cells for several of the interactors, in particular the MAP7 domain-containing protein 1 (MAP7D1) and DnaJ homolog subfamily B member 6 (DNAJB6). Our data uncover some of the complex ASPM interactome relevant and specific to human brain development and microcephaly, and suggest that ASPM acts as a major molecular hub at the centrosome and mitotic spindle to control the patterns of cell division of cortical progenitors.

La demarche de genetique inverse initiee par m. Davis, dont nous presentons ici les developpements, avait pour but d'identifier, chez la souris, des genes dont la fonction est essentielle dans l'ontogenese et la physiologie du systeme immunitaire et dont les homologues pourraient etre impliques dans les deficits immunitaires lies au chromosome x, chez l'homme. Cette demarche a permis d'identifier la famille des genes xlr (x-chromosome linked, lymphocyte regulated). Nous avons etudie l'expression de xlr, non plus seulement dans des cellules en lignee, mais aussi chez des souris saines, ex vivo. Au moins deux proteines xlr apparentees sont exprimees de maniere etroitement regulee, la premiere dans les cellules t en voie de differenciation dans le thymus ftal, la deuxieme dans les cellules germinales males au cours de la meiose. Les similitudes que partagent les deux systemes de differenciation cellulaire permettent de formuler de nouvelles hypotheses sur la fonction possible des proteines xlr. Enfin, bien que les sondes nucleiques de la souris ne montrent pas de reaction croisee avec l'adn humain, nous avons identifie et caracterise une proteine nucleaire humaine exprimee dans des cellules en lignee ou dans les meiocytes, grace a des anticorps monoclonaux. Les caracteristiques physiques et d'expression de cette proteine suggerent qu'elle represente l'equivalent humain de xlr

O mundo se depara atualmente com a perspectiva de um significativo aumento na demanda por etanol combustível. O bagaço de cana está entre os maiores subprodutos agroindustriais no Brasil, sendo uma das alternativas na utilização para a produção do etanol de segunda geração. A degradação do bagaço de cana requer a ação de muitas enzimas diferentes que são reguladas transcripcionalmente. Considerando-se que o custo de celulases e hemicelulases contribuem substancialmente no preço do bioetanol, novos estudos visando o entendimento da eficiência e produtividade de celulases são de grande importância. Para entender como melhorar coquetéis de enzimas que podem hidrolizar o bagaço de cana-de-açúcar pré-tratado, uitlizou-se um experimento de genômica para investigar-se quais genes e vias são transcripcionalmente moduladas durante o crescimento de A. niger em bagaço de cana-de-açúcar explodido. Neste trabalho foram identificados genes que codificam celulases e hemicelulases com aumento da expresão durante o crescimento em bagaço de cana-de-açúcar explodido. Foi também realizada a determinação do acúmulo de mRNA de diversos genes que codificam transportadores para verificar se estes eram induzidos por xilose e por depedência de glicose. Foram identificados 18 genes que corresponde a 58% de celulases preditas em A. niger e 21 genes que correponde a 58% de hemicelulases preditas em A. niger os quias foram altamente expressos durante o crescimento em bagaço de cana-de-açúcar explodido. Foi investigado também o papel central realizado pelas proteínas quinases e fosfatases não essenciais (NPKs e NPPs, respectivamente) quando em presença de celulose como fonte de carbono, no sensoriamento do estado energético e na subsequente via de sinalização no fungo filamentoso modelo Aspergillus nidulans. O estudo com A. nidulans identificou 11 quinases e 7 fosfatases não essências, NPKs e NPPs, respectivamente, envolvidas na produção de celulases e em alguns casos, na produção também de hemicelulases. O envolvimento destas NPKs identificadas na resposta induzida por avicel e na desrepressão foram acessados pela análise do transcriptoma da cepa selvagem e por microscopia de fluorescência através da cepa de fusão CreA::GFP expressa no selvagem e no background dos mutantes de NPKs. A ausência das quinases snfA e schA reduziu dramaticamente a resposta transcricional induzida por celulose incluindo a expressão de enzimas hidrolíticas e transportadores, enquanto que a ausência de snfA resultou em uma quase completa modulação gênica induzida por celulose. O mecanismo pelo qual essas duas quinases controlam a transcrição gênica foi identificado, onde os dois mutantes de quinases foram capazes de desbloquear o CreA mediante a repressão catabólica do carbono (CCR), sob condições de desrepressão, como em baixa presença de carbono ou crescimento em celulose. Desta forma, este trabalho abriu novas possibilidades para o entendimento da sacarificação do bagaço de cana-de-açúcar por hidrolases de A. niger e para a construção de coquetéis de enzimas mais eficientes para a obtenção do etanol de segunda geração. The world today is faced with the prospect of a significant increase in demand for fuel ethanol. Sugarcane bagasse is among the largest agro-industrial by-products in Brazil, one of the alternatives in use for the production of second generation ethanol. Degradation of sugarcane bagasse requires the action of many different enzymes which are transcriptionally regulated. Considering that the costs of cellulases and hemicellulases contribute substantially to the price of bioethanol, new studies aimed at understanding and improving cellulase efficiency and productivity are of paramount importance. To understand how to improve enzymatic cocktails that can hydrolyze pretreated sugarcane bagasse, we used a genomics approach to investigate which genes and pathways are transcriptionally modulated during growth of A. niger on steam-exploded sugarcane bagasse. We also sought to determine whether the mRNA accumulation of several steam-exploded sugarcane bagasseinduced genes encoding putative transporters is induced by xylose and dependent on glucose. We identified 18 genes that corresponds to 58% of A. niger predicted cellulases and 21 genes that correspond to 58% of A. niger predicted hemicellulases, that were highly expressed during growth on sugarcane bagasse. The central role performed by nonessential protein kinases (NPK) and phosphatases (NPP) when grown on cellulose as a sole carbon source, in the sensing energetic status and the subsequent signalling pathways was assessed in the model filamentous fungus Aspergillus nidulans. This study identified multiple kinases and phosphatases (NPKs and NPPs, respectively) involved in the sensing of carbon or energetic status, while demonstrating the overlapping and distinct roles of snfA and schA in the regulation of CreA derepression and hydrolytic enzyme production in A.nidulans. The involvement of the identified NPKs in avicel-induced responses and CreA derepression was assessed by genome-wide transcriptomics and fluorescent microscopy of a CreA::GFP fusion proteinexpressed in the wild-type and NPK-deficient mutant backgrounds. The absence of either the schA or snfA kinase dramatically reduced cellulose-induced transcriptional responses including the expression of hydrolytic enzymes and transporters, while the absence snfA resulted in a near complete loss of wild-typecellulose-induced gene modulation. The mechanism by which these two NPKs controlled gene transcription was identified, as neither of NPK-deficient mutants were able to unlock CreA-mediated carbon catabolite repression, under derepressing conditions, such as carbon starvation or growth on cellulose. Our presently reported work opens new possibilities for understanding sugarcane biomass saccharification by A. niger hydrolases and for the construction of more efficient enzymatic cocktails for second-generation bioethanol. This work also enable the identification of multiple kinases and phosphatases involved in the sensing of carbon or energetic status, while demonstrating the overlapping and distinct roles of snfA and schA in the regulation of CreA derepression and hydrolytic enzyme production in A.nidulans.

The goal of this project was to streamline and automate a business system. This was achieved through the implementation of four subtasks. This report describes what parts of the system that needed to be updated and why. It also describes how the development was carried out and what results the project ultimately led to.   The project's tasks were to: Create a report generator designed to generate Excel documents. Develop a symbol generator where a user, through a web-based interface, could generate symbols. The symbols could then be used in the company's mobile application. Create an interface for a web service, and to develop an add-in for the modeling software Revit Architecture 2014.

Les facteurs nucleaires lies a des stades de differenciation precis ont un role cle dans le processus de regulation de la transcription des genes exprimes au cours de ces etapes. La famille multigenique xlr (expression lymphocytaire regulee liee a l'x) code pour une proteine detectee a la suite d'un travail de genetique inverse dans les lymphocytes t ou b differencies; assimilable a ces facteurs nucleaires et dont la fonction reste a determiner. Il lui correspond un messager fonctionnel unique, ce fait contraste avec la grande taille de cette famille multigenique qui comprend 50 a 100 sequences reparties sur les chromosomes x et y. Pour resoudre cette apparente contradiction, nous avons recherche l'expression de nouveaux transcrits xlr et notamment dans les organes non lymphoides. Un nouveau messager a ete mis en evidence dans les testicules; la sequence nucleotidique a revele une une divergence par rapport a la sequence du transcrit lymphocytaire qui de ce fait n'est plus unique et permis de deduire l'existence d'un cadre ouvert de lecture homologue a celui du transcrit lymphocytaire. Le criblage d'une banque genomique, nous a permis d'isoler des clones presentant de facon intriquee des sequences xlr nouvelles et des sequences y-specifiques. Les sequences y- specifiques revelent un dimorphisme du chromosome y dans les differentes souches de souris de laboratoire permettant leur classification en deux groupes distincts m. M. The aim of this master thesis is to design a wireless system which would be primarily used for a control of stage lighting. Our idea is to establish wireless links, that will carry DMX512 protocol, between individual lighting devices based on wireless transceiver nRF2401A. The foundation of our project comes from a previous design, which was not completely suitable for a practical use because of its rather large proportions and a short RF range. The project resolves the issue of relatively short range coverage through the deployment of RF amplifier RF5722. In the same tme, it also takes into account other technical aspects such as the use of antenas with a higher gain, front-end circuits or increased transmission reliability through frequency hopping scheme. Proper attention is also given to a minimalization of the module dimensions by using SMD components and layout adjustements, so it would be possible to place the whole board inside XLR connector. Set of printed circuit boards with the specified characteristics, which is the expected outcome of our project, were designed with Eagle PCB design environment.

In 2017, a major Effective Collaboration Project, titled “Sanskrit-English-Latvian Online Glossary of the Basic Terminology for Indic Sciences (Ayurveda, Yoga, and Indian Music)” was launched at the University of Latvia. It is planned to include 1000 entries – Ayurveda (400), Yoga (400) and Indian Music (200). Accordingly, there are 5 expert groups – medical doctors (Ayurveda), yoga instructors and teachers, musicologists and musicians, Sanskrit language experts and linguists, and IT specialists. The program of tLex is used as a basic system for the input of words. Furthermore, several independent experts and organizations are being consulted during the compilation process, for example, State Language Centre of Latvia. This article constitutes a part the above-mentioned project. The main objective is to find out current offer of similar open-access Ayurveda, yoga or Indian music online glossaries that would use Sanskrit and English languages as bases. Printed versions, online journals or books, pdf- or xlsx-format lists and alike are not be included. The analysis consists of a description of each site, a critical assessment of advantages / disadvantages, and a com-parison with the on-going Glossary project at the University of Latvia (further in text – UL Glossary). The objective of the article is a descriptive, topical and structural analysis with an interdisciplinary approach. It does not aim at a thorough linguistic analysis. Therefore, Sanskrit words are given in simplified English transcription (mainly according to their usage in relevant webpages)

Abstract Over the last several years, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), in cooperation with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), conducted a multi-year project that focused on the development of a viable method and approach to address the effects of primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) in primary piping systems approved for leak-before-break (LBB). This project, called eXtremely Low Probability of Rupture (xLPR), defined the requirements necessary for a modular-based probabilistic fracture mechanics assessment tool to directly assess compliance with the regulations. Version 2.0 of this code has been completed and is currently awaiting public release. Since the focus of xLPR Version 2.0 is investigating the impacts of active piping degradation on the leak-before-break behavior of reactor coolant piping, questions have been raised to whether xLPR can be used to confirm pipe rupture frequencies developed in other efforts, such as NUREG-1829, “Estimating Loss-of-Coolant Accident (LOCA) Frequencies Through the Elicitation Process.” This paper discusses an initial study focused on whether xLPR can be used to estimate pipe rupture frequencies. A series of analyses were conducted, based on inputs developed by the xLPR program team, focused on the reactor pressure vessel outlet nozzle geometry of a typical pressurized water reactor. Additional analyses were conducted using the same radius-to-thickness ratio but decreasing the pipe diameter. Due to computer memory restrictions, it was difficult calculating low probability events when considering PWSCC initiation, typical residual stresses, leak detection and in-service inspection. Therefore, to bound the problem, an aggressive weld residual stress was assumed with multiple pre-existing defects. By modifying the size and number of these initial defects, results were generated that indicated the conditional probability of rupture was related to the percentage of the inner circumference cracked and the pipe diameter. Using the PWSCC initiation model from xLPR Version 2, the yearly rupture frequency with leak detection and in-service inspection was calculated. The results indicate that the rupture frequencies in NUREG-1829 appear conservative relative to the results from this study. Due to the limited scope of this study, the assumptions used in these analyses were limited or conservative; therefore, additional analyses are needed for a more robust comparison. However, the results suggest that conducting xLPR analyses with pre-existing defects may be useful in bounding LBB applicability with active degradation.

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (US NRC) and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) have jointly funded the development of the probabilistic analysis tool xLPR (extremely Low Probability of Rupture) version 2.0 for calculating the probability of a leak before break for welded pipes [1]. The acceptance testing for the program was completed in July of 2016. This allowed the release of the code to the development team. The released version of xLPR v 2.0 was used to run probabilistic simulations on selected scenarios and then perform uncertainty and sensitivity analysis on selected results. Uncertainty Analysis (UA) informs on how much the uncertainty affect the outputs while Sensitivity Analysis (SA) ranks the uncertain parameters in term of importance (i.e., influence over uncertainty) for selected outputs. In this paper, we present the methodology used to perform Sensitivity Analysis using three regression techniques as well as scatterplots for graphical study. The results generated are consistent both with the experts’ expectations and our understanding of the equations used in the sub-models.

A probabilistic fracture mechanics code, PRAISE-CANDU 1.0, has been developed under a software quality assurance program in full compliance with CSA N286.7-99, and was initially released in 2012 June. Extensive verification and validation has been performed on PRAISE-CANDU 1.0 for the purpose of software quality assurance. This paper presents the benchmarking performed between PRAISE-CANDU 1.0 and xLPR (eXtremely Low Probability of Rupture) version 1.0 using the cases from the xLPR pilot study. The xLPR code was developed in a configuration management and quality assured manner. Both codes adopted a state-of-art code architecture for the treatment of the uncertainties. Inputs to the PRAISE-CANDU were established as close as possible to those used in corresponding xLPR cases. Excellent agreement has been observed among the results obtained from the two PFM codes in spite of some differences between the codes. This benchmarking is considered to be an important element of the validation of PRAISE-CANDU.

The External Review Board (ERB) for xLPR (eXtremely Low Probability of Rupture) has raised questions regarding the possibility of non-LBB (Leak-Before-Break) conditions for several scenarios of crack growth. There are essentially two areas of concern that need to be addressed regarding this issue. The first is with regard to the effect of weld residual stresses (WRS) on through-wall crack growth where the axial WRS field has high values of compression near the mid thickness region. In this case, the crack growth in the depth direction will slow down when the crack reaches the compressive WRS field especially if the service bending loads are relatively small. However, the crack growth near the inner diameter (ID) surface may continue and possibly become very large and even possibly a 360-degree crack prior to leakage. This may lead to a non-LBB situation which the xLPR code needs to address. The second area of suggested study recommended by the ERB is related to the effect of WRS fields on through-wall crack (TWC) growth and its effect on crack opening displacement (COD) and therefore leak rate. This paper summarizes the efforts taken to address the ERB comments.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in cooperation with the nuclear industry is constructing an improved probabilistic fracture model for piping systems that in the past have not been susceptible to known degradation processes that could lead to pipe rupture. Recent operating experience with primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) has challenged this prior position of leak-before-break and which has now become known as “extremely Low Probability of Rupture” (xLPR). This paper focuses on the xLPR model’s treatment of uncertainty for in-service inspection. In the xLPR model, uncertainty is classified as either aleatory or epistemic, and both types of uncertainty are described with probability distributions. Earlier PFM models included aleatory, but ignored epistemic, uncertainty, or attempted to deal with epistemic uncertainty by use of conservative bounds. Thus, inclusion of both types of uncertainty in xLPR should produce more realistic results than the earlier models. This work shows that by including epistemic uncertainty in the xLPR ISI module, there can be a significant effect on rupture probability; however, this depends upon the specific scenarios being studied. Some simple scenarios are presented to illustrate those where there is no effect and those having a significant effect on the probability of rupture.

As part of the xLPR (Extremely Low Probability of Rupture) project, the stress intensity factor (SIF) solutions required for crack growth calculations were updated. This involved extension of existing solutions and development of new solutions as well. For surface cracks, the Universal Weight Function Method (UWFM) was implemented to handle complex stress distributions. In addition, a crack transition model was developed to more accurately capture the surface to through-wall crack transition. Finally, solutions for idealized through-wall cracks were extended to various pipe sizes and longer crack lengths. In this paper, the SIF (K) solutions in xLPR Version 2.0 were validated against existing experimental data. The SIF modules in the xLPR code were used to simulate fatigue crack growth of circumferential cracks in pipes under bending up to wall penetration and to through-wall crack transition stage until idealized through-wall cracks were formed. The predicted fatigue crack growth results (mainly crack shape evolution) using the xLPR K-solutions provided good agreement with experimental data.

NRC Standard Review Plan (SRP) 3.6.3 describes Leak-Before-Break (LBB) assessment procedures that can be used to assess compliance with the 10CFR50 Appendix A, GDC-4 requirement that primary system pressure piping exhibit an extremely low probability of rupture. SRP 3.6.3 does not allow for assessment of piping systems with active degradation mechanisms, such as Primary Water Stress Corrosion Cracking (PWSCC) which is currently occurring in systems that have been granted LBB approvals. US NRC staff, working cooperatively with the Electric Power Research Institute through a memorandum of understanding, conducted a multi-year project that focused on the development of a viable method and approach to address the effects of PWSCC in primary piping systems approved for LBB. This project, called eXtremely Low Probability of Rupture (xLPR), defined the requirements necessary for a modular-based probabilistic fracture mechanics assessment tool to directly assess compliance with the regulations. As reported in previous technical papers, the first version of the xLPR code was developed as part of a pilot study, which leveraged existing fracture mechanics based models and software coupled to both a commercial and open source code framework to determine the framework and architecture requirements appropriate for building a modular-based code with this complexity. Using the lessons learned from the pilot study, the production version of this code, designated as Version 2.0, focuses on those primary piping systems previously approved for LBB. In this version, the appropriate fracture mechanics-based models are employed to model the physical cracking behavior and a variety of computational options are provided to characterize, categorize and propagate problem uncertainties. This paper examines the xLPR Version 2.0 model by presenting a brief overview of the xLPR scope, the code structure, computational framework and fracture mechanics-based models. As a demonstration of the xLPR Version 2.0 capabilities, an example is presented that focuses on PWSCC in large-bore piping systems. This example exercises some functionalities of the xLPR code to demonstrate its application to assess compliance with 10CFR50 Appendix A, GDC-4. This paper concludes with a brief discussion on the path forward and plans for the control and maintenance of the xLPR code.

Appendix A, General Design Criteria (GDC) 4, of 10 CFR Part 50 states, in part, that the dynamic effects associated with postulated reactor coolant system pipe ruptures may be excluded from the design basis when analyses reviewed and approved by NRC demonstrate that the probability of fluid system piping rupture is extremely low under conditions consistent with the design basis. Licensees have typically demonstrated compliance with this probabilistic criterion through deterministic analyses that do not accurately simulate typical piping degradation. Given recent advances in probabilistic methodologies, the NRC staff and industry believe that performing a probabilistic analysis of primary system piping that fully addresses and quantifies uncertainties and directly demonstrates compliance with GDC 4 is more appropriate. NRC and industry expect that a robust probabilistic software tool, developed cooperatively, will facilitate meeting this goal; will improve licensing, regulatory decision making, and design; and will be mutually beneficial. Based on the terminology of GDC 4, this project is titled Extremely Low Probability of Rupture (xLPR). Development of the xLPR methodology and the corresponding software tool will involve many challenging technical decisions, modeling judgments, and sensitivity analyses. The purpose of the xLPR project is to develop a probabilistic assessment tool that can be used to demonstrate direct compliance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50 Appendix A GDC 4. The xLPR software tool will model active degradation mechanisms, such as primary water stress corrosion cracking, and the associated mitigation activities. The tool will be comprehensive with respect to known challenges, vetted with respect to scientific adequacy of models and inputs, flexible enough to permit analysis of a variety of in-service situations, and adaptable to accommodate evolving and improving knowledge. Successful execution of the xLPR project will involve a complex and diverse array of technical specialties and will require a well-organized and structured team of experts. This paper summarizes the objectives, organizational structure, and program plan of the collaborative NRC / Industry xLPR Project to develop a robust, flexible, probabilistic piping rupture assessment code. While the listed authors are individually responsible within their respective organizations for this project, the project organization includes a management team representing the xLPR Project task group structure. Individual members of this team will be listed in the paper along with their individual roles and contributions within the project. Companion papers from three of the four technical Task Groups of the xLPR Program (Computational, Modeling, and Inputs) provide substantial additional information detailing the technical approach and direction of this project.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) entered into a cooperative agreement to develop a modular computer code for determining the probability of rupture of reactor coolant pressure boundary piping. The goal of xLPR project (Extremely Low Probability of Rupture), as it is known, is to develop a flexible modular code that satisfies the assessment methodology in the NRC Standard Review Plan (SRP) 3.6.3 leak-before-break analysis. The NRC SRP 3.6.3 provides guidance on satisfying Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 50 (10 CFR Part 50) Appendix A, General Design Criteria 4 that requires primary system pressure piping to exhibit an extremely low probability of rupture. The initial phase of the xLPR project is the Pilot Study where the base structure of the code will be developed and tested on a known case. The Pilot Study version of the xLPR code consists of an alpha version where proxy modules and inputs are used and a beta version where the state-of-the art modules and inputs are used. This paper will discuss the input parameters used for the alpha xLPR code.
