ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis makna dan peran alih kode yang terdapat dalam lirik lagu Ivy Moire Ivoria dan Delilah. Subjek penelitian ini adalah band dua buah lirik lagu band Ivy Moire yaitu Delilah dan Ivoria. Objek penelitian ini adalah peran alih kode yang terdapat didalam kedua lirik lagu tersebut. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini adalah metode analisis wacana dan wawancara. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah, (1) Makna lirik Ivy Moire berjudul Ivoria adalah mengenai konflik di dalam diri seseorang yang selalu mengharapkan dukungan dari orang-orang sekitarnya, makna dalam lirik lagu Delilah adalah mengenai sebuah kisah cinta dan penghianatan tetapi makna antara lirik dengan peran sosial di dalamnya adalah sebagai ungkapan rasa terimakasih kepada fans serta penggambaran kisah cinta yang nyata terjadi dalam kehidupan, (2) Alih kode yang terdapat di dalam lagu Ivoria dan Delilah bukan merupakan alih kode sistem klasifikasi jenis alih kode tertentu, melainkan menekankan kepada makna dari kedua lirik lagu dan memiliki peran sosial di dalam lagu tersebut. Alih kode dalam hubungannya sebagai media promosi band Ivy Moire digunakan sebagai salah satu alat oleh band Ivy Moire dalam proses menuju pasar musik internasional, serta berperan sebagai bentuk pengenalan identitas sosial Ivy Moire sebagai bagian dari musisi Indonesia dengan aliran musik Jepang. In this paper, we introduce a principled approach to material design for academic discussion courses. This approach is informed by our experiences of creating, developing, and evaluating course materials in our roles as academic managers for a large-scale academic discussion program at a private university in Tokyo. These principles are used to assist in the writing of discussion questions conducive to academic discussion and the creation of pre-task preparation activities to support students in their discussions. We believe that the principles will be of use to teachers new to academic discussion classes as a way to guide, evaluate, and justify the design of their course materials with regard to activity aims, content, and organization. Similarly, we hope that the paper can operate as a useful review of best practice for more experienced course developers. 本論文では、アカデミックディスカッションコースの教材を作成する為の、合理的な取り組み方法を紹介する。都内のある大学での、大規模なアカデミックディスカッションプログラムのコース教材を構成、開発、および評価をした著者の経験を述べたものである。この方式においては、まずアカデミックディスカッションを行う為の議題の作成と、議論の際、学生に役立つ事前準備課題のアクティビティを作成する事に重点を置いている。アカデミックディスカッションクラスの担当講師、およびコース開発者達が指導や評価をおこなう際や、目標、内容、構成に留意しコース教材を正当に作成することができるように、使用できるチェックリストを紹介している。

Abstract:
Extra tutorial sessions on the use of pictorial mnemonics to facilitate memorization of Japanese hiragana and katakana script characters, as well as vocabulary words and kanji characters, were offered to university first year undergraduate students taking a beginners’ Japanese language course. 27 students, most of whom were experiencing some difficulties with the course, volunteered to attend. Although the improvement in actual marks that the students evidenced subsequent to attending the sessions did not prove to be statistically significant, a significant improvement in pass rate was found. Furthermore, the students rated the sessions highly in terms of their helpfulness, and the majority indicated that they believed the sessions helped their performance in the course assessments. It is concluded that mnemonic strategies can effectively be employed in facilitating retention of the script of a foreign, non-alphabetic language within a real educational setting. 初心者対象の日本語コースを取っている大学1年生に、日本語のひらがなとカタカナ、及び語彙と漢字の記憶を促進するため、絵を用いた連想法を使った追加授業が提出された。27名(そのうちのほとんどは、コースにおいて何らかの困難に直面している)が自主的に追加授業に出席した。追加授業出席後、学生の実際の小テストの点の向上には有意差は認められなかったものの、合格率の向上においては有意差は確認された。さらに、追加授業に出席した学生は授業が役立ったと高く評価し、大多数が追加授業がコースの成績の成果に貢献したと思うと述べた。本論は、実際の教育現場で英語のアルファベットを用いない外国語の文字を教える際、連想法を効果的に使用することができると結論づけた。

In order to take efficient notes during English for academic purposes (EAP) lectures, students might need to be challenged to move beyond verbatim recording of information. This article describes an innovative approach to notetaking in EAP courses, the Teaching Cycle for Simplification, with a specific focus on simplification strategies used in Swedish high school second language EAP courses. The specific strategies introduced and practiced included word substitution, abbreviation, and the use of symbols and pictures. The article describes the pedagogic steps used in the classroom and shares samples of student work as well as student reactions to the approach. アカデミック英語(EAP)講義中に効率的なノートをとるために生徒は情報の逐語的な記録以外のことをしなければならなくなる。そこで本稿は EAPコースにおけるノートテーキングに関する革新的指導、特にスウェーデンの高等学校の第二言語EAPコースにおいて使用された簡略化ストラテジーについて論じる。教室内で指導、練習を行なった具体的なストラテジーとして、単語の置換、略語、記号、および絵の使用があげられる。本稿では教室で行われた指導の手順、生徒のノート例、および生徒の反応について述べる。

Abstract:
This paper introduces some enjoyable and effective English exercises used in a 2016 content and language integrated learning (CLIL) course that combined career education and English learning. It also elaborates on the concept of selective attention, the theoretical rationale behind the effectiveness of the exercises. Exercises based on selective attention were designed to train students on how to shift their focus from negative thoughts and feelings such as complaints, anxieties, and regrets, to positive thoughts and feelings such as hopes, dreams, success and happiness. Hamada (2018) found that this 2016 CLIL course significantly enhanced the students’ self-esteem and had a positive effect on their mental attitudes toward life. This paper will also discuss how the exercises based on selective attention influenced the findings of the 2018 study. 本稿では、キャリア教育と英語学習を統合した2016年の内容言語統合型学習(CLIL)コースで使用された効果的で楽しい英語エクササイズを紹介し、その効果の理論的根拠である「選択的注意」という概念について述べる。「選択的注意」に基づいたエクサイズは、脳のフォーカスが不満、不安、後悔といった否定的思考及び感情から希望、夢、成功、幸福といった肯定的思考や感情にシフトされるようにデザインされた。濱田(2018)の研究によると、2016年のCLILコースは受講者の自尊感情を高め、人生に対する考え方に肯定的な変化をもたらす効果があることが明らかになった。本稿では、「選択的注意」に基づいたエクササイズが2018年の研究結果にどのように影響を与えたかについても考察する。

Abstract:
In this classroom research project, 27 learners in three courses at one university use professional-level, photo-editing software to create and remix images in language lessons. The overarching purpose of this study is to deepen understanding of what actually occurs in lessons through the use of materials. I delivered these lessons with a Content and Language Integrated Learning approach in which English was used for both the teaching and learning of not only lesson content but also language (Coyle, Hood, & Marsh, 2010). Data include emails written by the learners to describe and evaluate their experiences with the software, digital artifacts created during the courses, and my research journal. Qualitative analysis is conducted in a grounded fashion using iterative coding (Saldaña, 2013) to identify emergent themes from a research perspective of materials use. Learners appear to demonstrate self-direction and creativity in highly personal ways throughout the lessons. 本授業調査研究では、ある大学における3つのコースにおいて、27人の学習者が専門家レベルの写真編集ソフトウェアを使用し、語学の授業内で画像の作成およびリミックスを行った。この研究の包括的な目的は、学習者にこれら諸教材を用いることにより授業中に起こることを深く理解させることである。本研究指導者は、授業内容だけでなく言語教育と学習の両方に英語を使用するContent and Language Integrated Learning(内容言語統合型学習)によるアプローチを用いた (Coyle, Hood, & Marsh, 2010)。データには、ソフトウェアを用いた経験を説明および評価するために学習者が書いた電子メール、コース中に作成したデジタルアーティファクト、および指導者が所持する研究ジャーナルを含む。質的分析には、教材使用の研究展望から生まれてくるテーマを特定するために反復コーディング (Saldaña, 2013)を用いた。学生はレッスンを通じ、自分なりのやり方で自己主導性と創造性を示した。
