The concept of perimeter and area discrimination is an important part of math teaching in elementary school. But students feel hard to learn this part, and also make some mistakes frequently. In this study, I designed some different patterns of perimeter and area , then also asked some 4th and 6th grade students in elementary school to choose the correspondence picture, then describe the difference of these 2 concepts separately. The result of this study shows that students often describe the concept of perimeter on sides and lines, then focus the definition of area on planars. But the chosen pictures by students were not to confirm with their descriptions of these 2 different concepts. On the other hand, different pattern pictures of perimeter and area choised by students indicates these three following results. Firstly , the performance of 6th grade students were better than 4th grade in selection of pictures and description of the defenitions on perimeters and areas. Secondly, though that 6th grade students do better than 4th grade in the correspondence relationships of perimeter and area pictures selection , they still make mistakes oftenly. Thirdly , there are some points affect the decision of students like square, right angle, symmetry, closed, dotted, coloring, thickness of the frame,etc.Dotted line affects the most among all of them.

Area and Perimeter play an important role in the teaching and learning of mathematics. Area is 2-dimensional; however, perimeter is 1-dimensional and is measured in linear units. Many studies relative to Area and Perimeter revealed that not only students but also pre-service teachers mixed Perimeter with Area and had many kinds of misconceptions about Perimeter and Area. This study focused on the misconceptions of Perimeter and was based on many viewpoints of previous researches to investigate the Perimeter misconception development of primary school fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students in Taichung County. Paper and pencil tests were used in the study and the data was analyzed on descriptive-statistics, test of homogeneity of proportions, one-way and two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Scheffe’s method and Item Relation Structure analysis method (IRS). From the study, the following points were discovered: 1. Most items show that there is significant difference in grade level, exclusive of “The meaning of Perimeter”, “More A - More B intuition rule”, and “The perimeter of a equilateral triangle”. Generally speaking, elder students score better than younger students. 2. As far as the whole test score is concerned, there is interaction between area and grade level. The affect of grade level differs among areas, and equivalently, the affect of area differs among grade levels except the sixth grade. 3. There is no significant difference in different gender in the test. 4. Students attending cram schools or not show significant difference in the test. Students attending cram schools score well. 5. There is significant difference in the attitude toward mathematics. Students who enjoy learning mathematics often score well. 6. From the IRS graphs of three grade levels, the following points were discovered: (1)The relation of the items becomes more complicated and systematic in the sixth grade than that in the fifth and fourth grade. (2)Each item might play different role in the item relation structure in different grade levels. (3)The concept of each item might become lower concept easily if it is highly related to the textbook. (4)Students learn the formula of Perimeter better than the meaning of the Perimeter. (5)The items of intuition rule misconception are independent and have no relation with other items. These items are also difficult for students, no matter what grade level they are. (6)The perimeter of a regular polygon is the most important basic lower conception. (7)The IRS graph shows that some perimeter misconception might disappear as the grade level increases.

Abstract Socrates said that education isn't just an input, it lit up a light.《The Aesop’s Fables 》is a bible of thinking and it can improve students’ thinking ability .This research is to carry on the affective instruction of《The Aesop’s Fables 》by topic method with the comprehensive lessons in Grade four at elementary school. The researcher selects nine fables which come close to students’ life experiences and carry on cooperate learning by asking and discussing with students. Let multiple faces of thinking replace the traditional teaching of "standard answers" ; Let the group discussion replace the individual thinking, and let affective attitude of positive thinking exist in every student’s mind. This study involves action research with samples of teaching/ learning activities and students’ articles in Grade four at elementary school. The researcher, a teacher himself, cooperates with 34 students and their classroom teacher. The data that this research collects includes the students' questionnaires, learning sheets, daily records of discussion , daily records after lessons, the researcher's teaching inspections, dialogues with the co-teachers ,classroom observation, and interviews with each individual student .Those will help to examine the effect of cooperate learning and the variations of students’ affective attitudes. The conclusions of the research are as follows: (1)In the affective instruction of 《The Aesop’s Fables 》,the cooperate learning of asking and discussing with students is effective and is helpful to stimulate students to solve problems. (2)The affective instruction of 《The Aesop’s Fables 》has positive influences on students’ affective attitudes. (3)The affective instruction of 《The Aesop’s Fables 》can improve students language and literature ability. (4)The affective instruction of 《The Aesop’s Fables 》has its feasibilities, but it has limitations as well . The writing curriculum of situational teaching provides teachers a series of scientific system trainings to teach writing in elementary schools. Finally, according to the results of the study, specific suggestions are provided as references for teachers and follow-up researcher's teaching.

This research aims at exploring elementary school pupils’ concept development in quadrilateral by tree passing rate methods and the fuzzy c-mean method. To conduct the experiment, a written test had been administered in 1167 students consisting of 4th 、5 th 、6th graders from fourteen elementary schools in northern Taiwan, then some students were interviewed randomly according to the performance to learn more about their misconceptions in quadrilaterals. Hopefully these findings could be helpful for future research and teaching。 The results show most 4th graders belong to the group of lower-middle ability, while most 5th and 6th graders gather in the group of upper-middle ability and the numbers of the 5th graders are more than that of the 6th ones。 Three different passing rate and the fuzzy c-mean methods are highly capable of predicting students’ ability in quadrilateral . The findings also show that there is no significant interaction in gender by grade for students’ performance in quadrilateral,but there is significant difference in grade for their performance in quadrilateral。. Concerning about students’ misconceptions from interviews are as follows:: i) Concaved and irregular quadrilaterals are not quadrilaterals. ii) Shapes that have a specific name (i.e. rectangle, square, or rhombus) are not a parallelogram. iii) A rectangle is not a square. iv) When a square is placed as a rhombus, it is a rhombus and no more a square. v) A non-typical rhombus shape is not considered a rhombus. vi) A non-typical trapezoid shape is not considered a trapezoid. vii) Shapes drawn with dotted lines are quadrilaterals. Students do not have the idea of enclosure.

“Prelude and Fugue”bourgeoned and developed in Baroque Period, subsided in Classical period due to the rising of homophonic music and sonata form, and then prospered again in Romantic Period because of “Bach Revial”. F. Mendelssohn(1809-1847) can be entitled the most influential figure marking the “Bach Revial”in the period. One of the F.Mendelssohn composed work, 6Preludes and Fugue, Op.35” were written in Romantic music style but creating a new epoch of the sound and music for the old musical combinations. This dissertation focuses on the No.1, 3, 4, 6 in this work. There are six chapters devoted in this thesis. Chapter One (Introduction) clarifies the Motivation, Purpose, Scope and Method of the Study. Chapter Two illustrates “Prelude and Fugue”individually and probes into how Mendelssohn held the torch of the tradition passed down from Bach and developed it. Chapter Three studies Mendelsohn’s compositional backgrounds, starting from his different piano composing stages and characteristics, followed by and overall survey of his piano fugue, ending with his Op.35. Chapter Four Music Analysis includes the the form, texture and harmonic characteristics in these four piano preludes and fugues. Chapter Five Performance Interpretation demonstrates the problems in performing these works, and brings up with a possible solution and interpretation. Chapter Six is the Conclusion.

The purpose of the study has two folds: to develop the norms of naming speed tests for 4th- to 6th-graders; and to describe the development growth of naming speeds as well as the relationships among tests and reading related variables. The researcher conducted naming speed tests (Lin, 2001) to 131 4th-graders, 142 5th-graders, and 149 6th-graders to develop the norms for each graders. Scores of the Chinese character recognition test (Huang, 1999) and reading comprehension (Ko, 1999) were also collected. Three major findings were found in this study. Firstly, as predicted, naming speeds increased with grade. Secondly, the rank of naming speeds in order from fast to slow were digit naming, digit-chuyin naming, chuyin, digit-chuyin-color-object naming, object naming, color naming, and color-object naming. Thirdly, the time (measured in seconds) children took during the naming tasks, were significantly correlated with reading related variables such as scores of character recognition, reading comprehension, and school achievement. Notably, naming speeds seemed to be more correlated with character recognition than with reading comprehension. Suggestions and recommendations for further research were discussed.

Perfluorocompounds (PFCs) are widely used in the semiconductor industry for plasma etching and chemical vapor deposition (CVD). The global warming potential of these gases has triggered a significant effort to reduce their release into the atmosphere. In 1997, the Kyoto environmental regulatory council reached a consensus to abate CO2, CH4, PFC, SF6, N2O emissions. The ways to reduce PFC emission include applying alternative chemicals, recovery/recycle systems and abatement techniques. Effective reforming of CF4 and C2F6 with O2 as additive via dielectric barrier discharges (DBD) was experimentally investigated in this study. A laboratory-scale experimental system was designed and constructed to evaluate the reforming efficiency of CF4 and C2F6. The effect of operation parameters including applied voltage, applied frequency, oxygen concentration, gas residence time, and power input on the removal efficiencies of CF4 and C2F6 was investigated. Experimental results indicated that the removal efficiency of CF4 increased with application of higher voltage, O2 content, gas residence time, power input and higher frequency. C2F6 was also removed with a higher efficiency with application of higher voltage, O2 content, gas residence time, power input and higher frequency. However, removal efficiency of C2F6 was found to decrease if more than 10% of oxygen was applied. The conversion efficiencies of CF4 and C2F6 achieved with plasma combined with catalysts were significantly higher than those without catalysts. The major products of the CF4 and C2F6 processing were CO2, COF2 when O2 was included in the discharge process. When the system was operated at a higher frequency, CO was produced as well. The converting process of CF4 and C2F6 mainly produced CO2, but not COF2, for the system packed with catalysts. Experimental results indicated that reforming of CF4 and C2F6 with O2 as additive via dielectric barrier discharge was technically feasible.

This composition of Arnold Schöeberg's final years that receive much notice was A Survivor from Warsaw,op.46(1947), the plot of this libretto written by Schöeberg himself , which is according to Jewish Holocaust in Warsaw ghetto of the World War Ⅱ, expressed by memory. This work includes three languages, it adumrate three roles and it's relationship, the difference of the tense also build the time and space of structure of the libretto . The music structure divide into three sections, based on a specific organization of twelve-tone's technique, many melodies accumulate a complex old style, the music race, orchestration arrangement and especial playing skill are changed by story’s development. Schöenberg used "Sprechtimme" which is used of the voice in a heightened style of recitation that is midway between speaking and singing. Which is the most important character to control the dramatic tension expresion of the work. Schöenberg tried to use every technique to express his mind, all elements of this work details his idea. Although it just only has ninety-nine measures, it's abounding expression has called our attention on this work. Abstract Based on the data released in TIMSS 2003, this thesis delves into the performance in the science achievement test among the fourth grade students in Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, England and the United States. Three science cognitive domains, which are the factual knowledge, the conceptual understanding and the reasoning and analysis, are examined accordingly. The t-test and the analysis of variance is adopted to study the impacts of the students’ gender, interests, confidence in science, learning strategy plus the teacher’s gender, professional background and teaching strategy on each of the science cognitive domains. The findings of this study are as follows: 1.The fourth grade students here in Taiwan come out top in the science achievement test, but they don’t do well in reasoning and analysis. 2.The different performance in the science achievement test among the fourth graders from these areas in the cognitive domains are: (1)The fourth graders in Taiwan and Singapore get higher rate of accuracy in factual knowledge whereas those in Hong Kong do a poor job. (2)Taiwan and Singaporean students score the best in conceptual understanding. (3)Those in Japan do a brilliant job in reasoning and analysis. Their counterparts in Hong Kong and the United States score lower. 3.Regarding the variants of the students, their gender, book collections, computer accessibility at home, interests and learning strategy in science affects their performance in factual knowledge and conceptual understanding. Its influence is less impressive in reasoning and analysis. Confidence in science in science affects the performance in factual knowledge, conceptual understanding and reasoning and analysis. 4.Regarding the variants of the teachers, their gender, professional background and teaching strategy has much impact on students’ factual knowledge and conceptual understanding rather than the reasoning and analysis. 5.For the fourth grade students in Taiwan alone, their book collections, computer accessibility at home, ability to design, study, observe and carry out scientific experiments and their teacher’s professional background does in fact influence their performance in all of the three science cognitive domains.
