Abstract:
This study explores how the perceived likelihood of giving compliments differs between Americans and Japanese: that is, those who are said to belong to Brown & Levinson's positive politeness and negative politeness cultures, respectively. The results of the detailed analyses of a survey of 44 American and 44 Japanese university students suggest four major differences in compliment-giving behaviors. First, the distinction between uchi and soto affects Japanese compliment-giving behaviors, as Japanese tend to be less polite toward family members in general. This is probably a more influential factor for Japanese than the categories of close and distant, which is highly influential for Americans (the closer the relationship to the addressee, the more willing Americans are to give compliments). Second, the influence of gender difference on the likelihood of complimenting others is greater for Americans than for Japanese. Third, psychological closeness sometimes overrides status and power differences in the compliment-giving behaviors of Japanese, while status and power tend to prevent Americans from complimenting higher-status addressees. Lastly, Americans appear to believe that complimenting someone is relatively easy, while Japanese tend to think complimenting is more difficult. アメリカ人と日本人がほめ行動を起こす可能性の度合いについて比較した。彼らは、ブラウン&レビンソンの唱える積極的ポライトネス文化と消極的ポライトネス文化にそれぞれ属すると言われている。日米各44名の大学生を対象として質問紙による調査を実施したところ、以下の4つが相違点として浮かび上がった。一点目は、アメリカ人のほめ行動では対話者間の親疎関係がほめの出現に影響を及ぼしていたのに対して、日本人ではウチ・ソトの区別が強い影響力を持っているということである。一般的に日本人は家族に対して丁寧ではないが、アメリカ人は対話者との距離が近いほど相手をほめようとする傾向が強くなる。二点目は、ほめ行動を起こす可能性の男女差はアメリカ人のほうが日本人に比べて大きいことが挙げられる。三点目は、アメリカ人のほめにおいては相手の地位や力がその行為を妨げる要因となりがちであるが、日本人の場合は相手との精神的距離が地位や力関係に優ることがあるという点である。最後に、アメリカ人は相手をほめることは比較的たやすいことであると感じる一方で、日本人はほめを難しいものと考える傾向があった。

Abstract:
In this paper the results of an online survey regarding the usefulness of Facebook for L2 learning will be presented. The survey was carried out with 118 L2 German learners in Japan. The results suggest that for most participants, Facebook is a suitable tool for improving their L2 skills because it enables them to establish or to maintain social contacts with native speakers and to have authentic opportunities to express themselves in the L2. The participants mentioned three particularly effective activities afforded by the social network: (a) reading L2 posts on the newsfeed, (b) writing one’s own posts and commenting on friends’ posts, as well as (c) using the Messenger app for writing private messages in the L2. Most of the survey’s participants noted an improvement of their reading and writing skills as well as an increase of their vocabulary and cultural understanding. 本稿は、第二外国語習得に対するFacebookの有用性に関するオンライン調査の結果を考察するものである。この調査は、第二外国語としてドイツ語を学ぶ118名の日本人に対して実施された。調査結果から、参加者の大多数にとって、Facebookは学習言語を上達させることに適したツールであるということがわかる。これは、Facebookによって学習者が母語話者と社会的な関係を構築または維持し、学習言語で考えを述べる本当の機会を持つことが可能になるからである。参加者が挙げた、とりわけ効果的であった活動は、学習言語での投稿を読むこと、自分自身で書くこと、友人の投稿にコメントをすること、学習言語でプライベートメッセージを書くためにMessengerを使用することであった。調査参加者においては、読解と作文の技能、語彙、文化的理解の向上が注目に値する。

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) pembelajaran membaca pemahaman bahasa Jepang di SMAN 4 Singaraja, (2) kendala-kendala yang dihadapi guru dalam pembelajaran membaca pemahaman bahasa Jepang, (3) upaya guru untuk mengatasi kendala dalam pembelajaran membaca pemahaman bahasa Jepang. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru bahasa Jepang SMAN 4 Singaraja. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan metode observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara, kemudian dianalisis dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) Pembelajaran membaca pemahaman merupakan bagian dari ouyou renshuu dengan strategi membaca Bottom-Up¬ dan menggunakan media pembelajaran berupa aplikasi Microsoft Powerpoint yang ditampilkan pada layar LCD. (2) Kendala yang dialami oleh guru dalam proses membaca pemahaman yaitu kurangnya bahan ajar untuk membaca pemahaman pada buku pedoman dan kurangnya alokasi waktu mengajar serta masih sulit memotivasi siswa karena karakteristik siswa yang berbeda-beda. (3) Upaya guru untuk mengatasi kendala adalah memberikan banyak latihan membaca tulisan hiragana, katakana, dan kanji baik berupa kosa kata dan kalimat sederhana serta mencari bahan ajar melalui internet.Kata Kunci : Profil, Pembelajaran Membaca Pemahaman, kana. 本研究の目的は、(1)公立シンガラジャ第四高等学校における読解学習、(2)日本語教師が読解学習の際に直面する問題点、(3)教師が直面する問題点の解決方法を明らかにすることである。対象は、公立シンガラジャ第四高等学校の日本語教師である。データは、授業観察、記録撮影、インタビューにより収集し、それを定性的記述法により分析した。結果、(1)読解学習は、ボトムアップを図るための応用練習の一部であり、LCDにパワーポイントを写し出し教材として利用している。(2)読解学習を指導する際に直面する問題として、読解学習用の教科書および副教材の不足、生徒に様々な個性があるため動機づけするのが難しいことが挙げられる。(3)問題点を解決するため、簡単な語彙と文章によるひらがな、かたかな、漢字を読む練習を充分に行い、不足する教材においてインターネットなどから教材を探し克服している。keyword : プロフィール、読解学習、ひらがな、かたかな
