The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is the first permanent inter-government organization named by one of the Chinese cities. Its official language is Chinese and Russian, and its members include China, Russian Federation, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Kyrgyzstan, Republic of Tajikistan and Republic of Uzbekistan. "Shanghai Five" mechanism, established in 1996, was the forerunner of SCO. In 2001, Republic of Uzbekistan joined the "Shanghai Five" mechanism, and in the same year of June 15, the leaders of the six countries announced a joint statement-"the founding declaration of SCO", which declared SCO was established on the basis of the "Shanghai Five" mechanism . By using this mechanism, China started the negotiation, which is about a mutual trust of boarding area and disarmament issues with Russia and four center Asia countries, and this mechanism started the military cooperation in SCO. This thesis mainly focuses on the military cooperation of SCO. First, it will be discussed that the purpose of the organization from the "Shanghai Five" to SCO, including what are the primary factors of forming the military cooperation and its courses of evolution and contents. Second, we talk about what are the main contents of the military cooperation, and the SCO’s external or internal limitation which may influence the military cooperation. Finally, we analyze its future development of security situation in global, regional, and the two sides of the Taiwan Strait areas step by step. The research discovered, with the foundation of SCO, that the China’s influence in center Asia is increasing, which will form another challenge to Russia. On June 27, 2007, the six members of SCO signed “an agreement of holding joint military maneuvers among SCO members” to have them held periodically, normally, and systematically. From now, although there are a lot of limitations, the influence of the military cooperation is increasing and it has played a key role in global, Asia Pacific and the two sides of the Taiwan Strait areas. No matter how the peace negotiation between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait areas will go, we must keep a close eye on the fact that the military cooperation could cause Taiwan’s military and diplomacy to be under threat.

Abstract This research discusses the background of Chang Hsuan-Wen’s music learning firstly; then Chang Hsuan-Wen’s chorus works and the style, characteristic and connotation of his compositions are analyzed. The present paper makes the following researchers have the further understanding of Chang’s chorus works and provides reference for them. This research is divided into five chapters. The first chapter refers to the purpose, motivation, questions, range and limitations of the research. Chang Hsuan-Wen’s learning history, including studying in junior high school, teachers college, the Department of Music at NTNU, and the graduate school; teaching in his alma mater, NHCTC, and NTCTC; doing research in NTSO; pursuing further education in the Graduate Institute of Arts at PCCU and his military life, are introduced in the second chapter. His chorus works, and the characteristic of his compositions are also in the chapter. The procedures of this research, including the methods, tools, flows and constructions, are explained in the third chapter. In the fourth chapter, the compositional background, structure, motivation, theme, the performing ways of chorus, chord progressions, accompaniment styles, lyrics tonality, pitches of the subject in Chang’s eight Taiwanese chorus works and twelve Mandarin ones are analyzed in details. In the last chapter, there comes a conclusion and the suggestions of this topic. More and more people pay attention to Chang Hsuan-Wen’s chorus works in concerts and music competitions. The style of his works is unique. In addition, the harmonies schedule and the melody are fascinating. He integrates the local drama into his compositions frequently. Also, the lyrics he wrote have conformed to the modern society's demand. Therefore, his works are considered masterpieces that make people cherish their hopes and be lively. The primary purpose of this study was to investigate how cooperative learning was planned and implemented in the elementary EFL (English as a foreign language) classroom. Through the study, the researcher intended to find out how cooperative learning affected the students’English learning as well how it affected the English teacher who never had experience in cooperative learning. During the process the researcher collaborated with the English teacher on designing, practicing, and modifying cooperative learning in order to develop strategies that were appropriate in the particular classroom setting. Findings from this study may provide some implications to elementary English teachers who are interested in using cooperative learning in their classrooms. This study was a cooperative action research, carried out through the collaboration between the researcher and the English teacher from September 2002 to December 2002. A total of 35 fifth graders participated in the study. The researcher applied qualitative methods to collect data, including observation, questionnaires, interviews, field notes as well as other related documents. The major findings of this study are as follows: 1. The students had more opportunities to use English in the cooperative learning environment. Their interests in English learning also increased 2. The students’ learning attitude became more active and positive. Most of them engaged in using English more frequently after the practice of cooperative learning. Moreover, they realized that they should be more responsible for their own learning and they also better understood the importance of cooperation with others. 3. Cooperative learning facilitated cultivation of better relationship among students. The teacher adopted heterogeneous grouping, which helped the students improve their interpersonal skills. 4. Through the process the teacher came to better realize that the students could become independent learners if given opportunities. The teacher herself also gained professional development through the involvement in the study. Keyword: cooperative learning, cooperative action research
