Full textThis paper proposes a composite right/left-handed cylindrical and rectangular waveguides using the cutoff TE and TM modes. The CRLH waveguides can be successfully applied to radiation characteristics of leaky-wave antenna by setting slits or slots. Finally, usefulness of the proposed CRLH waveguides is verified by comparison between the calculated and the measured values.

Abstract (key words: buffer material, hydraulic conductivity, swelling pressure, thermal conductivity) Radioactive wastes are required to be isolated from the environment to prevent possible contamination. The disposal concept presently being considered is " deep geological disposal ". In an underground disposal site, the radioactive wastes are encapsulated in containers surrounded by a buffer material and the excavation backfilled with a mixture of clay and aggregate. The study aims at creating an appropriate composition of the buffer material with satisfactory performance and characterizing the engineering properties of buffer material for underground radioactive waste disposal. Synthetic clays with plastic index of 30,82,and 214 were mixed with crushed Andesite-aggregate having top size of 2.24 mm. We use clay proportion with 25% and 50%. In order to meet the stringent requirements of buffer material, a series of tests including compaction characteristic, hydraulic conductive, swelling pressure, thermal conductivity, and shrinkage due to drying were conducted on clay-sand mixtures to evaluate the physical properties of buffer material. The results indicate that the hydraulic conductive of buffer material is lower when the PI is 330 and the proportion of clay is 50%. The kind and proportion of clay both influence the hydraulic conductive, and the kind of clay (different PI) effects obviously. Including the proportion and the PI of clay both cause thermal conductivity lower. Reducing clay content and the PI cause lower swelling pressure and shrinkage due to drying

Abstract C-aryl derivatives of DOTA (N,N’,N”,N’”-tetrakis(carboxymethyl)- 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane) were synthesized by a novel template reductive reaction. Reaction of triethylenetetraamine with ferric chloride generated previously a Fe(Ⅲ) templated diimine complex. For cyclococondensation, the diimine complex was subsequently reacted with aryl pyruvaldehyde. Aryl cyclen was obtained after adding sodium borohydride to reduce the cyclic imine and simultaneously remove the iron via conversion of Fe(Ⅲ) to Fe(Ⅱ). Actually the synthetic process was an one-pot reaction, proceeding without separation of any intermediate or transition state product. Further reaction of the acryl cyclen obtained with tert-Butyl-bromoacetate or 2-bromoacetamide could generate the derivatives of DOTA. 67GaCl3 or 68GaCl3 was taken and transformed into 67,68Ga-acetylacetonate (67,68Ga(acac)3) before labeling to the DOTA derivatives. The 67Ga or 68Ga labeled complexes were generated by ligand-ligand exchange of acetylacetonate (acac) with the DOTA derivatives. The labeling efficiency of the phenyl-DOTA compound, Ph-DOTA, with 67,68Ga could be higher than 95% under the reaction being facilitated via sonication, at ambient temperature for 20 min. By a similar reaction, the labeling efficiency of 3-NO2-Ph-DOTA with 67,68Ga was found to be lower (~40%). The stability of 67Ga-Ph-DOTA was high, maintaining at ≧ 98% yield even at 24h post-preparation. The 68Ga labeled Ph-DOTA complex was radiochemically characterized to be anionic and hydrophilic. It is anticipated from the result that 68Ga in the form of Ga(III) may be six coordinated with Ph-DOTA by 4N from the ring and 2O from two of the four pendent acetic groups, leaving other two acetic groups uncoordinated. The two free acetic groups on the final 68Ga-labeled ph-DOTA complex may be significant and beneficial for the further conjugation with peptides or antibodies. 67Ga-Ph-DOTA was selected to carry out an animal biodistribution study. The results revealed that the clearance 67Ga-Ph-DOTA from blood was very rapid. Its uptake by brain, heart, muscle and spleen was not considerable and cleared very rapidly. The radioactivity in small intestines was high and increased with time. The results suggested that a considerable fraction secreted via hepatobiliary way. The highly hydrophilic 67Ga-Ph-DOTA was excreted mainly via the kidneys. In conclusion, Ph-DOTA may be further undertaken as a bifunctional chelating agent for conjugating 67,68Ga to the peptide or antibodies.

Some G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) have functional links to cancer biology, yet the manifestation of GPCRs in tumor types is little studied to date. Using a battery of radioligand binding assays for profiling GPCR targets on HeLaS3 cells; high level of specific binding of a 5-HT1A receptor recognition binding agonist [3H]8-OH-DPAT was observed in these cells and characterized. Follow-up studies in competition experiments, several serotonergic compounds and biogenic amine transporter inhibitors competed effectively against [3H]8-OH-DPAT binding with concentration–dependent relationship; 8-OH-DPAT displayed affinity for the labeled amine transporter sites, demonstrated that 5-HT1A receptor agonist [3H]8-OH-DPAT not only binds to intact HeLaS3 cells with high specific binding, but also has multiple binding sites, some of which relate to uptake. [125I]RTI-55 and [3H]paroxetine bound in a saturable fashion to HeLaS3 cells. One or more of the related to 5-HT receptor subtypes was manifested in HeLaS3 cells. It is suggested that HeLaS3 cells contain distinct types of the related to 5-HT receptor system binding sites. These observations could help elucidate the relevance of the 5-HT transporter and receptor systems as well as the possible tumorigenic mechanisms with attendant pharmacological implications in tumor cells.
