Abstract:
Penelitian ini membahas analisis penerjemahan dan makna penerjemahan lirik lagu bahasa Indonesia (BI) “Sepatu” menjadi 『セパトゥ～くつ～』(Sepatu ~Kutsu~) dalam bahasa Jepang (BJ). Bertujuan untuk (1) mengidentifikasi teknik penerjemahan secara leksikal serta (2) menganalisis makna penerjemahan lirik lagu versi BJ. Metode penelitian ini yaitu teori penerjemahan, teori teknik penerjemahan dan makna penerjemahan. Metode pengumpulan data dengan studi pustaka dan teknik catat. Hasil yang ditemukan yaitu 3 teknik penerjemahan leksikal dikenal dan 1 teknik penerjemahan leksikal tidak dikenal serta makna penerjemahan yang paling umum yakni makna leksikal dan makna situasional/kontekstual. Pada teknik penerjemahan leksikal dikenal jenis frase dekriptif dengan makna leksikal terdapat 1 baris lirik, jenis generik-spesifik dengan makna situasional/kontekstual terdapat 12 baris lirik, serta jenis padanan kata berkaitan sinonim dengan makna situasional/kontekstual terdapat pada 3 baris lirik dan 1 baris lirik mengandung makna leksikal. Juga teknik penerjemahan leksikal dikenal jenis padanan yang berkaitan antonim terdapat pada 1 baris lirik dengan mengandung makna situasional/kontekstual. Teknik penerjemahan leksikal tidak dikenal jenis kata generik frase dekriptif terdapat pada 1 baris lirik dengan mengandung makna situasional/kontekstual. Jadi teknik penerjemahan leksikal dikenal lebih banyak digunakan pada lirik lagu versi BJ yang di dalamnya memuat makna penerjemahan leksikal dan situsional/kontekstual.Kata Kunci : penerjemahan, lirik lagu, sepatu, kutsu 本研究は『Sepatu』と言うインドネシア語の歌詞からの『セパトゥ～くつ～』と言う日本語に訳された背景と歌詞意味について議論することである。本研究の目的は『セパトゥ～くつ～』歌詞の語彙翻訳技術と翻訳の意味を識別して、翻訳理論、翻訳理論と翻訳理論に基づき、分析することである。研究手法は翻訳理論、翻訳理論と翻訳理論の意味を使う。データは文献展望とデータテーブルに記録される。結果は、三つ既知の語彙翻訳技術と一つ未知語彙翻訳技術が明らかになった。一般的に翻訳の意味、語彙的意味と文脈上の意味見出される。一行の歌詞、語彙的意味で既知の語彙翻訳技術の説明的なフレーズを特定される。十二行の歌詞、状況の意味で既知の語彙翻訳技術の汎用と特定の単語を特定される。三行の歌詞、状況の意味で既知の語彙翻訳技術の一致する単語（同義語）と一行の歌詞は語彙的意味で特定される。一行の歌詞、状況の意味で既知の語彙翻訳技術の一致する単語（反意語）特定される。最後は一行の歌詞、状況の意味で未知の語彙翻訳技術の記述的フレーズの総称である。つまり、『セパトゥ～くつ～』の歌詞は一般的に語彙的意味と状況の意味で既知の語彙的翻訳方法に基づき翻訳されることが明らかになった。keyword : キーワード：翻訳、歌詞、セパトゥ、くつ

Abstract:
With the rise of virtual assistants and the proliferation of digital translation software, such as Google Translate and Weblio that speed up the translator’s work, it is time to question what role, if any, machine translation services should have in foreign language classes. In this paper, the authors describe some activities designed to raise awareness about the use and misuse of machine translation within a task-based learning framework. Inspired by Sharwood-Smith’s 1981 notion of “consciousness-raising”, we outline three activities highlighting the benefits and problems of machine translation. An analysis of two translation exercises by 86 tertiary students in Japan indicated how many felt uncertain of the quality of their translations. Moreover, semi-structured interviews with six respondents following these activities underscored how students felt ambivalent about their translations. We conclude the paper with a discussion of some resources for EFL students seeking to improve their translation skills. デジタル翻訳ソフトの普及に伴い、外国語の授業で機械翻訳サービスが、もしあるとしたらどのような役割を担うべきかを問う時期にきている。本稿では、タスクベース学習の枠組みの中で、機械翻訳の使用と誤用についての認識を高めるためにデザインされたいくつかの活動について説明する。 本稿では、機械翻訳の利点と欠点を強調する三つのアクティビティーを概説する。日本の高等教育機関で学ぶ86人の学生によるふたつの翻訳演習の分析から、多くの学生が自らの翻訳の質に不安を感じていることがわかった。、さらに、これらのアクティビティーの後に実施した6人の学部生への半構造化面接から、多くの学生が翻訳の質を判断するのに苦労していることが明らかになった。締めくくりとして、翻訳スキルの向上を目指すEFLの学生向けのリソースについて考察した。

Translation is a much-neglected area ofEFL instruction, long shunned by many within the field of ELT. However, there are various kinds of translation and some can be very effective pedagogical instruments. A course in]apanese-toｭ English literary translation in EFL college programs in]apan has demonstrated its effectiveness in developing students'w ritten expression in English. A rationale for this approach lies within the relationships across languages and across the modalities of L1 reading and L2 writing. This needs to be unified with an understanding ofp ractice, in partic凶ar， teacher-student conferencing and peer collaboration.It is hoped thata s ynergism1w ill emerge from further study and research on this topic along with more teachers ass凶ning positive views toward this kind of translation instruction and attempting to undertake it in their classrooms. 翻訳はEFLの授業で非常に軽視され、ELTの分野の多くの教師によって長ら く避けられてきた領域である。しかし、翻訳には様々な種類があり、使い方に よっては大変効果的な教育手段になりうるものである。日本語から英語への文 学作品の翻訳演習を行う日本の大学でのある講座は、翻訳演習が学習者の英語 での文章表現力を養うのに有効であることを既に示している。このような教授 法の理論的根拠は、異なった言語の聞の相互関連性および\第1 言語の読解力 と第2 言語の文章表現力の問の相互関連性に存するものであり、実践方法の理 解、とりわけ教師と学習者の問での相談や学習者同士の共同作業のやり方につ いての理解が統合される必要がある。このテーマについてのさらなる研究の進 展と、この種の翻訳演習の授業に肯定的な見解を持つより多くの教師による教 室での実践が相乗効果をあげることが望まれる。

This paper describes a critical literacy session held with 19 beginner-level learners of Japanese at a Japanese university. The students observed and analyzed the use (or nonuse) of gendered speech styles (especially feminine language [onna kotoba]) in different media. They also translated a short passage from a video interview with Emma Watson from English to Japanese and discussed whether they would use feminine language in their translations. The learning journals that students submitted after class demonstrate students’ reflection on this topic, including students’ evaluation and questions on feminine language and whether and how they would use feminine language in their own translation. The findings suggest possibly introducing critical literacy, even to beginner-level students with limited knowledge of the target language, especially through use of the L1. 本稿は、日本の大学で19名の初級日本語学習者に行ったクリティカル・リテラシーの実践の報告である。本実践では、様々な日本語メディアにおけるジェンダー表現（特に女ことば）の使用を観察・分析した後、エマ・ワトソンのビデオインタビューの一部を翻訳し、自らの翻訳で女ことばを使用するかなど話し合った。学習者の提出した学習日記では、女ことばについての評価や疑問、自身の翻訳での女ことばの使用の有無など、ジェンダー表現についての様々な省察が見られた。本実践では学習者の母語を使用することにより、目標言語の知識が限られている初級学習者にもクリティカル・リテラシーの実践ができるとの示唆が得られた。

日本をはじめ中国、韓国等の東アジアからの観光客が増加しているクロ アチアにおいて、観光客とのコミュニケーションの課題が浮かび上がってき ている。その中でも対応が遅れている分野の一つとして医療通訳があげら れる。日本語ガイドの数自体が少ないクロアチアにおいては、医療通訳はピ ークシーズンには課題になっていると考えられる。この問題は日本では表面 化しており対応が始まっている。そこで日本における厚生労働省をはじめとし た複数の調査結果を参考にして、現状並びに医療通訳の必要性及び必要ス キルを確認し、クロアチアの日本語教育での応用を考察した。その結果、多く の医療機関が医療通訳の必要性を認識しており、各種施策に加え医療通訳 の育成を目指したカリキュラム基準や教育コースも整備され始めている。プ ーラ大学の日本語学科の学生も将来の職業として、翻訳・通訳者をあげ、 日本での就業を希望しており、専門日本語教育の卒業後の進路の一つとし ての医療通訳者の可能性が確認できた。

Abstract:
Japanese philosopher Miki Kiyoshi 三木清 (1897–1945) wrote an important text on translation entitled “Disregarded Translations” (keibetsu-sareta honyaku 軽蔑された翻訳). Among all Kyoto School thinkers, Miki was probably the most prolific writer. His interests spanned various intellectual topics such as philosophy, literature, religion, politics, and journalism. This paper offers a brief introduction to Miki’s conception of translation as well as, for the first time, an English translation of his text. “Disregarded Translations” deals with Japanese scholars’ propensity to revere Western philosophical texts in their original forms, while ignoring the outstanding wealth of insight that their translations can provide in their own language.

Abstract:
Vocabulary learning is a process requiring the connection of mental concepts to new word-labels. The Revised Hierarchical Model claims that beginning learners recognize the meaning of L2 words via a process of translation, needing considerable time and effort to forge direct connections between L2 words and mental concepts. However, might young children, as they are still rapidly acquiring L1 vocabulary, be able to bypass the L2-to-L1 translation required by adult L2 learners, and instead link new L2 words directly to pre-existing mental concepts? This study tested over 1,000 4th-6th graders in Japanese elementary schools on their ability to match newly learned L2 words with corresponding pictures or L1 translations. The results demonstrate that students connect L2 vocabulary to pictures more quickly, and this effect becomes more robust when students are taught via pictures, which suggests that young learners are indeed capable of accessing concepts without translating from their L1. 語彙学習とは学習者の脳内に存在する概念を新しい語彙に連結するという過程である。改訂階層モデルによると、初級者は翻訳という過程を経ることで第二言語(L2)での意味を認識する。そのため、L2語彙と脳内概念への直接連結するにはかなりの時間と努力を要する。しかし、まだ急速に第一言語(L1)語彙習得過程にある子どもたちはどうだろうか。成人学習者が必要とするL2からL1への翻訳を介さずに、脳内概念とL2語彙へ直接連結することが可能なのではないだろうか。本研究では四年生から六年生の日本人小学生千人以上を対象に、新出L2語彙を対応する絵または日本語へ照合する能力について検証した。結果として、L2語彙に対応する日本語への照合よりもイメージへの照合がより早く行われ、またこの効果が絵を用いて教わった場合により強く見られた。このことから、年齢が低い学習者はL1への翻訳することなしに脳内に存在する概念にアクセス可能であることが示唆できる。

Abstract:
Research suggests that Japanese learners have extensive knowledge of English vocabulary through their existing familiarity with loanwords. They may also be able to identify English words with associated loanwords more easily than those without loanwords. This pilot study tested Japanese university students’ aural recognition and ability to spell and translate 20 English words, 10 with associated loanwords drawn from the Academic Borrowed Words List (Daulton, 2008) and 10 without associated loanwords from the Academic Word List (Coxhead, 2000). The results indicate that participants were able to spell and translate English words with associated loanwords at, on average, more than twice the rate of words without loanwords. These results suggest that educators need to give attention to the existence of loanwords and adjust their teaching of vocabulary items accordingly. Problems with the present study are discussed, along with directions for further research. 日本人学習者は、既存の借用語に慣れ親しんでいるために、英単語の知識が豊富であるという研究結果がある。また、借用語に関連する英単語は、借用語に関連しない英単語よりも容易に識別できる可能性がある。本研究では、日本の大学生が20の英単語を聴覚的に認識し、スペルおよび翻訳する能力をテストした。そのうち10語はAcademic Borrowed Words List (Daulton, 2008) から抽出した借用語関連のもの、あとの10語は Academic Word List (Coxhead, 2000) から抽出した借用語と無関連のものであった。その結果、借用語関連の英単語は、そうでない英単語に比べ、平均して2倍以上の確率でスペルと翻訳ができることがわかった。この結果は、教育者が借用語の存在に注意を払い、それに応じて語彙項目の指導を調整する必要があることを示唆している。また、本研究の問題点と今後の研究の方向性についても考察した。

Phrasal verbs (PVs) are notoriously difficult for language learners since they are numerous in number, highly polysemous, as well as metaphorical, and the meaning is often opaque. Over the past two decades, researchers have shown the benefits of using a cognitive linguistic approach to teaching them. Expanding this line of research, a quasi-experimental study was conducted to investigate the effects of an embodied approach to teaching phrasal verbs. An embodied learning approach focuses on movement, gesture, and enactment as a way to facilitate language learning. Student participants (N = 80) were divided into 3 groups; an L1 translation approach group, a cognitive approach group, and an embodied learning approach group. They took pre- and post-PV tests and learned 29 PVs in 2 teaching interventions. All students significantly improved their scores, but those in the cognitive and embodied learning groups significantly outperformed the L1 translation group. 句動詞（phrasal verbs）は、数が多く、多義性が高く、比喩的であり、意味が不透明であることが多いため、英語学習者にとって難しいことでよく知られている。過去数十年の研究で、句動詞教育には認知言語学的アプローチが有効であることが示されたが。本研究はそれを発展させつつ、からだで学ぶアプローチ（身体運動、ジェスチャー、実演を用いた学習促進法）の効果を検証するための準実験的研究を行った。本研究では学生参加者(N=80)を、第一言語への翻訳アプローチ、認知的アプローチ 、からだで学ぶアプローチの3つのグループに分けた。学生参加者たちは、事前及び事後に句動詞テストを受け、2回の教育的介在において29個の句動詞を学習した。結果は、すべての学生がスコアを大きく伸ばしたが、なかでも認知的学習グループとからだで学ぶグループの学生たちは、第一言語への翻訳グループを大きく上回る学習成果を示したことを本研究で明らかにした。

Penelitian ini membahas kesulitan-kesulitan pembelajar dalam mempelajari Yarimorai Hyougen dan mengulas pengenalan konsep Yarimorai Hyougen khususnya -te morau dan -te kureru di buku panduan mengajar Bahasa Jepang 『みんなの日本語－教え方の手引き』 serta buku pegangan pembelajar 『みんなの日本語－翻訳・文法解説』. Penulis menyebarkan kuesioner kepada mahasiswa aktif di perguruan tinggi di Indonesia yang memiliki JLPT N3 untuk menyelidiki jenis kesalahan pembelajar. Dari hasil penyelidikan diketahui bahwa 1) Pembelajar belum bisa membedakan kapan suatu peristiwa diungkapkan menggunakan konsep Yarimorai Hyougen dan kapan tidak, 2) Pemahaman pembelajar tercampur dengan bentuk pasif, dan 3) Pembelajar kebingungan membedakan pemakaian -te morau dengan -te kureru.” Sementara, di buku panduan mengajar tidak dituliskan dengan jelas perbedaan -te morau dengan -te kureru, hasil terjemahan kalimat -te morau dengan -te kureru dalam Bahasa Indonesia tidak konsisten dan dirasa ambigu sehingga kedua hal ini berpotensi menimbulkan kebingungan kepada pembelajar. Untuk itu penelitian ini mengulas tentang kesalahan pembelajar menggunakan ungkapan ini serta kelemahan buku ajar yang sering digunakan untuk dijadikan referensi dalam pengembangan teknik pengajaran yang lebih efektif. Namun, perlu dilakukan penelitian lanjutan untuk menemukan model pengajaran yang tepat dengan memperhatikan kesulitan-kesulitan yang telah ditemui dalam penelitian ini.

Abstract:
This is a study investigating instructor belief on students’ use of machine translation (MT) for language learning in the EFL writing classroom, and how teachers react when they discover students have been using machine translation. A qualitative research design with a constructivist approach, based on the Naturalistic Inquiry of Lincoln and Guba (1985) was used. Four experienced English teachers at Japanese universities were selected as participants. Interview questions on teacher beliefs were developed using findings in related literature. After interviews with the participants, a deep assessment of the interview transcripts and follow-up questions were conducted. The assessment followed Maxwell’s (2012) guidelines of descriptive, interpretive, and theoretical validity. Then values coding (Saldaña, 2021) was used and several key themes on the beliefs of teachers emerged. The teachers were in support of embracing the technology of MT for classes. Moving forward, such teachers might benefit from training on integrating MT appropriately and effectively. 本研究では、EFLのライティング授業において、生徒が言語学習で機械翻訳（MT）を使用することに対する教員の信念と、学生による機械翻訳の使用が発覚した際の教員の反応を調査した。Lincoln & Guba（1985）の自然主義的探究に基づく構成主義的手法による質的研究デザインを用い、日本の大学において、4名の経験豊富な英語教員を参加者として選定し、関連文献の知見をもとに、教員の信念に関するインタビューの質問リストを作成した。参加者とのインタビューの後、Maxwell（2012）の記述的妥当性、解釈的妥当性、理論的妥当性の指標に従い、インタビュー筆記録及び、フォローアップ質問の記録の深い評価を実施した。次にSaldaña（2021）の価値観コーディングを用いたところ、教員の信念に関する重要なテーマが浮かび上がった。教員達は授業でMTの利用を取り入れることをに肯定的であった。今後、こうした教員達は、MTを適切かつ効果的に利用するためのトレーニングから恩恵を受けられるかもしれない。
