Abstract Background Major histocompatibility complex class I chain–related (MIC) A and B (MICA and MICB) are polymorphic stress molecules recognized by natural killer cells. This study was performed to analyze MIC gene profiles in hospitalized Thai children with acute dengue illness. A replication cohort of patients with dengue (n = 222) was used to confirm specific MICB associations with disease. Results MICA*045 and MICB*004 assoc

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Preoperative embolization of arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) remains controversial. This study sought to analyze the cost-effectiveness of preoperative embolization of AVMs. METHODS: Patients who underwent AVM resection at a single institute (January 1, 2015—December 31, 2020) were analyzed. Patients with preoperative embolization (embolization cohort) were compared with those without preoperative embolization (nonembolization cohort). Cost-effectiveness score (CE) was the primary outcome of interest and was determined by dividing the total 1-year cost by effectiv

Abstract Introduction and purpose Preliminary reports suggests that left atrial longitudinal strain (LALS) variables are a sensitive marker of acute cellular rejection (ACR) in heart transplant recipients (HTxR), discriminating between those studies without rejection and those with any grade of rejection. Intervendor variability is a concern in the widespread use of this technique. Our objective was to compare the LALS evaluated by two different softwares. Methods From September 2014 to October 2016 we performed, in 18 consecutive adult HTxR in their first year posttransplantation, serial echo

Abstract Background and purpose Antithrombotic therapy in patients with heart diseases is associated with minor and major, sometimes fatal bleedings. On the other hand, bleeding can favor the diagnosis of diseases that have a significant impact on patient's prognosis. In our research, we evaluated the incidence of occult malignancies associated with bleeding during antithrombotic therapy. Methods In the last 5 years, we evaluated 20,154 outpatients. We found that antithrombotic therapy was performed in 9.356 (46%) of subjects. Of these, 6,560 took an antiplatelet monotherapy. 658 were on dual

In TBIR, insulin signaling is disrupted at the receptor-level, resulting in failure of insulin to both suppress hepatic glucose production and to stimulate de novo lipogenesis.
