Abstract:
The homotopy category of a stable (∞,1)-category can be endowed with a triangulated structure. The main objective of this thesis is to give a proof of this fact. First it will be discussed some ideas of higher category theory, before (∞,1)-categories and models of (∞,1)-categories will be studied. In particular, topological categories and simplicial categories will be mentioned, but the main focus will be on quasi-categories, which all are models for (∞,1)-categories. A relation between these two objects has previously been noticed by other authors, on the level of the triangulated homotopy categories of stable (infinity,1)-categories. We discuss a method of classifying 2-dimensional invertible topological quantum field theories (TQFTs) whose domain surface categories allow non-orientable cobordisms. These are known as Klein TQFTs. We are able to compute the fundamental group of its classifying space BK and, by way of this result, derive an infinite loop splitting of BK, a classification of functors K → Z, and a

Abstract:
We construct new examples of derived autoequivalences, for a family of higher-dimensional Calabi-Yau varieties. Specifically, we define endo- functors of the bounded derived categories of coherent sheaves associated to varieties arising as the total spaces of certain natural vector bundles over complex Grassmannians. These functors are defined using Fourier- Mukai techniques, and naturally generalize the Seidel-Thomas spherical twist for analogous bundles over complex projective spaces. We prove that they are autoequivalences. We also give a discussion of the motivation for this construction,

This thesis is an inquiry into leadership in early childhood education and care (ECEC). Leadership in ECEC is a key feature of contemporary early childhood policy positioned as a prerequisite for quality improvement. The method of collective biography was drawn on to investigate how leaders in early childhood produce understandings about ‘good’ leadership. This inquiry problematises notions of ‘good’ early childhood leadership. A number of ironic categories emerged that hold together competing and at times contradictory discourses, allowing for more complex understandings of leadership.

The Open Archives Initiative constituted the infrastructure that supports this restructuring. It was also responsible for the institutionalization of a model called e-prints repositories (ER), that stores, disseminates and promotes scientific production, published or not, in a plac

Abstract:
Oral cancer or oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a subset of head and neck cancer (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer), with an estimated 354,864 new cases and 177,384 deaths reported annually. India accounts for 34% of the world's oral cancer burden with an incidence of 119,992 and mortality of 72,616 cases annually, second only to breast cancer. Despite advancements in the therapeutic approaches, the prognosis of OSCC fares poorly, with an overall 5-year survival rate ranging from 34% to 62.9%. The methylotrophic yeast, Pichia pastoris can utilize compounds such as glucose, glycerol, methanol, acetate, amino acids, or oleic acid as the sole source of carbon. However, the regulation of synthesis of key enzymes of these metabolic pathways is not well understood. Unlike Saccharomyces cerevisiae, P. pastoris can utilize amino acids not only as a nitrogen source but also a carbon source. The prime focus of this work is to understand the regulatory mechanisms involved in the synthesis of two key enzymes of glutamate utilization pathway, glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH2) and phosphoenolpyruvat

The work described in this thesis describes the role of arginine clusters and the importance of their position in B-hairpin antimicrobial peptides. Here, we have tried to explore the role of guanidinium groups in the studied model system Polyphemeusin-1. The thesis has been divided into four chapters. The first chapter includes the challenges associated with the antimicrobial resistance, the literature available for antimicrobial peptides and a broad view of their history, diversity, physiochemical properties and the mechanism of actions of antimicrobial peptides. Abstract:
Coulomb drag technique is a notable tool for probing electron-electron interaction in double-layer systems, where the momentum and energy transfer from one layer to the other layer as a result of Coulomb interaction. In such a scenario, allowing current through a layer induces an open-circuit voltage in the nearby layer known as the 'Drag voltage'. In two-dimensional bilayer heterostructures, correlated charge inhomogeneity breaks the electron-hole symmetry and gives rise to a nonzero drag signal at the charge neutrality point. Many theories have been proposed to explain the drag signal with n

Foamy macrophages or Foam cells are a critical cellular component of the granuloma formed during pulmonary infection. These lipid rich cells generally contain neutral lipids, Cholesteryl Esters (CE) and/or Triglycerides (TAGs) which not only serve as the carbon source for the pathogen to thrive in the hostile environment of host, but also act as a substrate for various immunomodulatory enzymes such as COX-2 etc. Lipid accretion is a result of various cellular processes involved in lipid uptake and synthesis that are fine-tuned by various transcription factors and chromatin modifiers. Chemical vapour deposition (CVD) is a low-cost, scalable technique which allows the direct and controllable synthesis of large-area uniform films of 2D materials for wafer-scale technologies. A major drawback of this technique lies in the polycrystalline nature of the films due to the inevitable presence of lattice point defects and extended line

The application area of such methods ranges from image-based retrieval over driver assistance systems for the automotive industry to applications in robotics. Despite the exciting progress that has been achieved in the field of visual object categorization over the last 5 years, we have still a long way to go to measure up to the perceptual capabilities of humans. Empirical risk minimization(ERM) is a popular framework for learning predictive models from data, which has been used in various domains such as computer vision, text processing, bioinformatics, neuro-biology, temporal point processes, to name a few. We consider the cases where one has apriori information regarding the model structure, the simplest one being the sparsity of the model. The desired sparsity structure can be imputed into ERM problems using a regularizer, which is typically a norm on the model vector. Popular choices of the regularizers include the `1 norm (LASSO

Structural and functional investigations on DNA-damage inducible protein1 (Ddi1) from Entamoeba histolytica, Trypanosoma cruzi and Toxoplasma gondii have been carried out. It has been shown that this domain is the target of HIV-protease inhibitors that were being used in the treatment of AIDS and it was observed that these drugs reduced the infection caused by many parasitic protozoa such as Trypanosoma and Leishmania species that are responsible for prevalent opport
