Abstract:
Abstract Background: Standard therapy of acute promyelocytic leukemia has long relied on the combination of All-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA) and chemotherapy. The introduction of arsenic trioxide (ATO) in APL treatment has allowed achievement of similarly high remission and survival rates coupled with significantly reduced myelosuppression. Recent results of the APL0406 trial by the GIMEMA-AMLSG-SAL study groups showed that the combination of ATRA and arsenic trioxide (ATO) is superior to standard ATRA and chemotherapy (CHT) in front-line therapy of low/intermediate risk acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). The implications of these results for the clinical practice of APL patients in Germany have been uncertain given the fact that ATO is not formally licensed for front-line therapy of APL. Aim:In order to provide evidence and a reflection of the clinical reality of APL patient care in Germany an intergroup APL registry (National acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) observational study, NAPOLEON) was recently initiated by several AML study groups. Methods:Eligible patients are adults at least 18 years of age with newly diagnosed or relapsed APL not beyond the first year of diagnosis. Here we report the first analysis on the series of patients prospectively enrolled into this registry. The study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki, received IRB approval by all participating centers and was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT02192619). Results: As of August 1st 2016, 88 patients have been included into the study with a median age of 57 years (range 22-87). All had newly diagnosed APL (100%) with 66% (n=58) being of low/intermediate risk according to the Sanz score. Out of those patients 76% (n=44) received an ATO-ATRA based induction regimen followed by a median of 4 courses of consolidation (according to the APL 0406 study).Of 41 patients evaluable for response to induction, 40/41 (98%) patients achieved complete remission (CR) with the ATRA-ATO arms. Early death rate within 30 days of therapy was 2% (1/44). After a median follow-up of 12 months, the event-free survival, cumulative incidence of relapse and overall survival at 12 months for these patients were 97%, 0% and 97%, respectively. Therapy was well tolerated and no new safety signals have been obtained. Conclusion:These real life data from a prospective German registry provide further evidence for the safety and sustained anti-leukemic efficacy of ATRA-ATO in low/intermediate risk APL. These results further support ATRA-ATO as the new standard of care in this clinical setting. Table Demographic, clinical and laboratory characteristics of the eligible patients. Table.

Abstract:
Bubonic plague has caused three deadly pandemics in human history: from the mid-sixth to mid-eighth century, from the mid-fourteenth to the mid-eighteenth century and from the end of the nineteenth until the mid-twentieth century. Between the second and the third pandemics, plague was causing sporadic outbreaks in only a few countries in the Middle East, including Egypt. Little is known about this historical phase of plague, even though it represents the temporal, geographical and phylogenetic transition between the second and third pandemics. Here we analysed in detail an outbreak of plague that took place in Cairo in 1801, and for which epidemiological data are uniquely available thanks to the presence of medical officers accompanying the Napoleonic expedition into Egypt at that time. We propose a new stochastic model describing how bubonic plague outbreaks unfold in both rat and human populations, and perform Bayesian inference under this model using a particle Markov chain Monte Carlo. Rat carcasses were estimated to be infectious for approximately 4 days after death, which is in good agreement with local observations on the survival of infectious rat fleas. The estimated transmission rate between rats implies a basic reproduction number R 0 of approximately 3, causing the collapse of the rat population in approximately 100 days. Simultaneously, the force of infection exerted by each infected rat carcass onto the human population increases progressively by more than an order of magnitude. We also considered human-to-human transmission via pneumonic plague or human specific vectors, but found this route to account for only a small fraction of cases and to be significantly below the threshold required to sustain an outbreak.

Assessing the population sizes of humphead warasse (Cheilinus undulatus) is vital to manage an endangered fish resource. This research aims to examine the population density and length distribution. This study was carried out at reef waters of Buton (2014) and Wakatobi (2016). A method used in data colection is underwater vicual census (UVC). The GPS-ploating Kid used as additional tool to record sensus areas. Results show that densities of humphead warasse in Buton and Wakatobi were 0.76 and 093 individual per hectar, respectively. The status was critical and a fair density level. In Buton domined by juvenile (15) valued about 26 %. While, in Wakatobi domined by larger size (30 to 50 cm). However, both size was forbidden for exploiding.

Abstract:
One of the best known compositions from Robert Schumann's "song year" of 1840 is the ballad "Die beiden Grenadiere," op. 49, no. 1, to a poem by Heinrich Heine (1797-1856). Any work about Napoleon, in any genre, was inevitably politically charged, both at the time Heine wrote his poem (perhaps in 1821, after hearing the news of the former emperor's death on 5 May 1821) and the date of its most famous musical setting (at the beginning of the decade when Germany was edging towards revolutionary outbreak). What impelled this 21st-century investigation of the song was curiosity about its confusing initial gesture in the piano, a tonic six-four chord as an anacrusis, leading to unharmonized tonic pitches on the downbeat of measure 1. Speculation about Schumann's intention led to an investigation of both men's attitudes towards Napoleon, especially the aftermath of his downfall. That Heine venerated Napoleon (who emancipated the Jews) cannot be doubted, but Heine, given to paradox and contradiction, was no hagiographer. His poem is as much literary as it is political, with its borrowings from Des Knaben Wunderhorn and Herder's translation of the Scottish ballad "Edward." The First Empire, like all empires, is not merely historical fact but a confabulation of poetic legends. Heine's underlying concern, I would argue, was not Bonapartism per se but rising German nationalism of the sort he found ominous and that Schumann, to some as yet ill-defined degree, supported. But composer and poet both associated Napoleon with the ideals of the French Revolution in the days before it and the emperor succumbed to what is darkest in human nature. In my opinion, Schumann understood Heine's delineation of nationalistic fanaticism and found apt musical gestures for that understanding. Here, I trace the composer's lifelong sense of identification with Napoleon and the compositional decisions that tell of a political point of view in "Die beiden Grenadiere."

Abstract:
The joint achievement of the United Nations sustainable development goal n°7 aiming at access to clean and reliable energy for all by 2030 and the climate objectives of the Paris agreement requires the development of microgrids (MG) powered by local renewable energy resources for isolated areas that cannot be connected to the grid. This is particularly the case in Sub-Saharan Africa where 600 million people, mainly in remote rural areas, do not have access to electricity. This thesis focuses on the analysis of solar MG not connected to the grid to meet the challenges of electricity generation in isolated areas in Africa. The socio-technical feasibility specific to these MG is based on a strong temporal adequacy between the solar resource and the demand while limiting the cost of the electricity supplied to the consumers. We first explore the multiscale temporal variability of the local solar resource in Africa and its implication on the MG sizing, using high-resolution satellite data of global horizontal irradiance for a 21-year period (1995-2015). The low percentile values of the solar resource give a first guess on the size of the solar panels surface required for the microgrid to achieve a given quality service. We show that the usual sizing of microgrids based on the average solar resource is underestimated. Taking into account low resources periods leads to oversizing the photovoltaic (PV) surface by a factor of 1.3 to 4. With such an oversizing, it is possible to ensure a good quality of service without relying on a large amount of storage. For certain areas, some demand flexibility during low resource periods would make it possible to reduce significantly the sizing. We then analyze how the potential seasonality of electricity demand impacts the size of fully solar-powered microgrids, through the analysis of the co-variability structure between solar resource and demand. We consider that the MG has to meet total daily demand at least 95% of days and a seasonal variation in demand of up to 30%. While in some parts of Africa the size required to meet seasonal demand is 20% lower than what is needed to meet non-seasonal demand, it may also be 20% higher. We also explore to what extent the effect of PV panels tilt angle could reduce the resource supply-demand mismatch and the sizing. Usually the tilt angle is equal to the latitude. For a constant daily demand, the gain in size achieved by optimizing tilt angle is generally less than 4%, but for specific seasonal demand patterns, it may reach 9%. In a number of locations, focused surveys and analysis to estimate the temporal structure of demand would nevertheless yield significant gains in MG size. Finally, the cost of electricity required to ensure a good quality of service is a determining factor of the potential deployment of solar MG. We evaluate the sensitivity of the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) and of the MG optimal configuration (i.e. with the lowest LCOE) to solar panels and battery costs and to other economic parameters. If the sensitivity of the LCOE to updated costs is obviously large, the optimal configuration (surface of PV panels and storage capacity) is very robust. The optimal configuration is almost only determined by the temporal co-variability structure between the resource and the demand. It is thus dependent on the one hand on the regional climate, and on the other hand on the temporal structure of the demand. The adjustment variable is essentially the PV panels oversizing, which is based on the low solar resource days while storage has the main function of managing the resource-demand mismatch at sub daily level. One interesting result is the significantly lowest LCOE to ensure productive uses compared to domestic uses only because of the lower storage capacity required for productive uses. Such results have direct implications for all operational and institutional actors involved in the deployment of energy access in remote areas in Africa

Abstract:
LusitanaHotels - The 100 Days War is a case study about a hotel group that was founded in 2009 to bridge the gap between affordable and luxury hotels in the South of Portugal. Over time, different hotels were added to the chain and in the beginning of 2012, the group had 6 hotels and a golf course. Revenues increased constantly for years, although at the cost of high financial leverage. With the financial crisis, this excessive debt led to the bankruptcy of the group. In the end of 2012, LusitanaHotels owed money to everyone and the hotels were inactive. It had no credibility at all and its name was very toxic in the market. The case addresses the challenges that the new management team had to face in their turnaround efforts, the strategic alternatives that were available for the company and the first measures taken, sure of their capacities and experience, they designed a 100-day plan in order to drive the business, so that it could recover and later thrive in a competitive market. The dissertation includes a Literature Review that explores relevant themes of the hotel industry and is followed by a Teaching Note that offers an analysis of key questions raised in the case.

Abstract:
A qualitative phenomenological study using van Manen’s human science method was conducted to gain insight into the lived experience of patients and their family members transitioning through one hundred days post haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Three families between zero and five years post HSCT were recruited from a bone marrow transplant unit in central Canada. Multiple in-depth open-ended interviews and field notes were employed to arrive at a detailed description of the lived experience of patients and family members. Awakening from the cocoon emerged as the main essence of patient’s and family members’ experiences, supported by three themes: the disruptions, the chrysalis, and new beginnings. The results from this study provide evidence that the families viewed the HSCT in a positive perspective and highlight the importance of supporting families throughout the acute phase of transplantation.

The detail information from studies of the technical literature specialized on ecological agriculture were brought out to analyze the whole questions of sheep breending at the ecological farm Slunečná. Lacteous utility was judged in term of amount of drawen milk, process of lactational curve was judged in the following way. The evaluation of reproduction was based on four basic reproductive indexes. The weight of 100 days old sheep and the production of wool were detected by scaling. Detected values were lower in most of indexes than published indexes. This fact is connected with detected inadequacies of lairage, nutrition and breending organization. Abstract:
Administering Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine during the early stage of the vaccine rollout (January/February 2021) to as many individuals as possible would prevent more COVID-19 cases in Ontario as compared to reserving half of the initial allotments as second booster doses (Figure 1). On-label use of the vaccine with the administration of two doses is important, as the second dose significantly boosts the immune response and results in a substantial increase in neutralizing antibodies. However, using 100% of the initial allotments immediately to vaccinate as many individuals as possible does not preclude on-label use with two doses, even though the interval between first and second booster dose may become longer than 21 days.

Abstract:
The phenotypic analysis of new candidate varieties at multiple locations could provide information on the stability of their genotypes. We evaluated the stability of 11 maize hybrid candidates in five districts in East Java Province, Indonesia. Maize hybrids with high yield potential and early maturity traits derived from a diallel cross were planted in a randomized complete block design with two checks (Srikandi Kuning and BISI-2) as a single factor with four replicates. The observed traits were grain yield per hectare and harvest age. The effects of environment, genotype, and genotype × environment interaction on yield were highly significant (P < 0.01). KTM-1, KTM-2, KTM-4, KTM-5, and KTM-6 showed higher average grain yield per hectare than the checks (Srikandi Kuning = 8.49 ton ha−1 and BISI-2 = 7.32 ton ha−1) at five different locations. The average harvest age of 11 candidates was less than 100 days. KTM-4 and KTM-5 had production yields that were higher than the average yield of all genotypes in all environments (Yi > 7.78 tons ha−1) and were considered stable on the basis of three stability parameters, i.e., Finlay–Wilkinson, Eberhart–Russell, and additive main effect multiplicative interaction (AMMI). KTM-2 had the highest yield among all tested genotypes (9.33 ton ha−1) and was considered as stable on the basis of AMMI but not on the basis of Finlay–Wilkinson and Eberhart–Russell. KTM-1 performed well only in Pamekasan, whereas KTM-6 performed well only in Sampang. Thus, these two genotypes could be targeted for these specific locations.
