We studied tensile creep behavior in two silicon nitride ceramics, i.e., 4.8 mol% Lu2O3 (SN48) and 1.2 mol% Lu2O3 (SN12), at 1400–1500 °C under applied stress of 137–300 MPa. Time to failure of SN48 increased with decreasing applied stress and minimum strain rate. The stress–rupture parameter was 10.7 at 1400 °C and 11.4 at 1500 °C. Pore formation was confirmed in a creep-tested specimen of SN48 by transmission electron microscopy. These results suggest that SN48 was fractured by creep rupture. This work traces the evolution of plate armour in England during the fifteenth century, and explores the possibility of the existence ofa unique English style of armour design during that time. This style may have been developed because of functional requirements and aesthetic sensibilities particular to the English warrior elite, and therefore may have assumed forms quite different from the prevailing Italian and German styles advanced by the armourers of Milan, Brescia, Augsburg, Innsbruck and the other famous continental centres. This thesis addresses the gap in our knowledge by focusing on a single church and village - All Saints in Wighton, near the north coast of the county. Abstract:
This chapter turns to the second aspect of the Problem of Paganism: virtue. The dominant view among scholastic theologians in the late thirteenth and fourteenth centuries was that pagans could be genuinely virtuous, although their virtues were not of the sort which could merit salvation. In the period after 1400, mainstream Catholic theologians in the scholastic tradition tended to take the same broad view as their predecessors, but reformulating it to take account of new opponents. By contrast, and surprisingly, writers more influenced by humanism were often more sceptical about pagan virtue, although they presented their doubts in sophisticated literary forms. From 1500, the newly discovered pagans of America presented another side to the problem of pagan virtue, overlooked by most mainstream writers on them, but noticed by Jean de Léry and probed by Montaigne. This chapter looks at each of these approaches in turn.

A series of studies were undertaken to determine the optimum rejuvenation heat treatment of HAYNES 230 alloy and to examine its weld repairability. To simulate service exposure, samples of plate nominally 4.75 mm (0.187 in.) thick were exposed at temperatures of 760°C (1400°F) and 871°C (1600°F) for a period of 1500 hours. Room temperature tensile properties and stress-rupture properties at 927°C (1700°F)/62 Mpa (9 ksi) were determined and compared to the material in the unexposed condition. Rejuvenation heat treatments of exposed materials were performed at a temperature of 1177°C (2150°F) fo

Abstract:
Abstract To improve the efficiency of gas turbines, the turbine inlet temperature needs to be increased. The highest temperature in the gas turbine cycle takes place at the exit of the combustion chamber and it is limited by the maximum temperature turbine blades, vanes and discs can withstand. A combination of advanced cooling designs and Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBCs) are used to achieve material surface temperatures of up to 1200°C. However, further temperature increases and materials that can withstand the harsh temperatures are required for next-generation engines. Research is underway t
