Full textThe present work intends to give a new interpetation of the devout catholic party's political thought. Set back within the framework of Christian State, the doctrines of its leaders, namely Mathieu de Morgues and Michel de Marillac, will be reconstituted. In order to characterize their theories of monarchy, their relationships to sovereign power and proximity to Richelieu's vision of government will be both considered. Morgues and Marillac's conception of government will be clarified by looking into their claims on government by "creatures", intendants sent to provinces, and extraordinary justice. Eventually, the conformity between these principles and reality, (i. E. , the rebellions conducted by the quenn mother and the king's brother, the conflict with protestants, and French foreign policy) will be established. In this period of intense debate over the idea of absolute monarchy, the study of devout political thought sheds a brand new light on the nature of ministry
