Abstract:
Bovine in vitro embryo production is highly relevant for dairy systems in Brazil, and Gyr dams are commonly used as oocyte donors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of prepubertal Gyr heifers as oocyte donors, an alternative to anticipate reproduction of those animals. For that, 11 Gyr [4 prepubertal (PP) donors and 7 adult cows © donors] were used in ovum pickup (OPU) sessions. The PP cows presented an average of 282.5 kg and 26.75 months, and had never displayed oestrous. Non-lactating cows presenting an average of 492 kg and 136 months were selected for C. Five replicates were performed, totaling 27 OPU sessions (C-17, PP-10) and 2–3 sessions per animal. Follicular wave was synchronised by aspiration of follicles larger than 8 mm 96 h before OPU. Cumulus-oocyte complexes (COC) were classified accordingly to their quality in viable (G1, G2, and G3) or non-viable (G4). Viable oocytes were matured and fertilized, and the presumptive zygotes were cultured in SOF medium at 38.5°C and 5% CO2 in air. Cleavage rate was assessed 48 to 72 h post-insemination (hpi) and blastocyst rate at 168 hpi. Mean number of structures was analysed by t-test, and percentage of viable, G1, G2, G3, G4, cleavage, and blastocyst rates were compared among groups by Fisher’s exact test (GraphPadInstat, La Jolla, CA, USA; P = 0.05). Results are followed by standard error values. All procedures were approved by a local ethics committee. We found that despite higher (P < 0.05) numbers for both viable oocytes (PP: 15 ± 2.6; C: 6.11 ± 0.76) and total oocytes (PP: 23.70 ± 2.83; C: 8.82 ± 1.19) in the PP group, the rate of viable oocytes was similar (P > 0.05) among PP and C groups (PP: 61.5 ± 6.51%, C: 66.79 ± 3.79%). Mean numbers of G1, G2, G3, and G4 oocytes were higher (P < 0.05) in the PP group (G1 = 7.1 ± 1.18; G2 = 4.9 ± 1.74; G3 = 3.9 ± 1.09; G4 = 7.8 ± 1.38) than in the C group (G1 = 2.70 ± 0.740; G2 = 2.47 ± 0.44; G3 = 1.11 ± 0.31; G4 = 2.52 ± 0.39). However, the proportion was similar (P > 0.05) among PP and C groups (PP: G1 = 29.5 ± 4.21%; G2 = 19.5 ± 2.85%; G3 = 15.9 ± 13.5%; G4 = 35.1 ± 6.33%; and C: G1 = 27.24 ± 4.44%; G2 = 29.60 ± 5.08%; G3 = 12.34 ± 3.01%, G4 = 30.79 ± 4.93%). Cleavage rate (PP: 91.3 ± 17.94%; C: 74.09 ± 4.65%), mean blastocyst number per OPU session (PP: 3.3 ± 1.29; C: 1.76 ± 0.28), and blastocyst rate (PP: 19.74 ± 7.40%; C: 27.03% ± 4.07%) were similar (P > 0.05) among groups. We conclude that prepubertal heifers presented increased numbers of viable oocytes per OPU session, but blastocyst yield was similar to adult cows. This data suggests that prepubertal Gyr heifers can be used as oocyte donors. Support from FAPERJ and Embrapa is acknowledged.

Abstract:
SummaryThe aim was to investigate whether the Thr715Pro P-selectin polymorphism is associated with soluble P-selectin (sP-selectin) levels in individuals from different ethnic groups. Plasma sPselectin and Thr715Pro (A/C) P-selectin gene polymorphism were measured in 237 white (106 females), 177 black African origin (92 females) and 201 South Asian (94 females) individuals living in England. All were free from coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke and other cardiovascular disease, diabetes, drug therapy for hypertension or high lipids, hormone replacement therapy or oral contraceptive pill. The Thr715Pro C allele was rare in blacks (0.8%) and intermediate in South Asians (3.0%) compared to whites (11.2%; p <0.001). sP-selectin levels were significantly lower in the individuals with the AC or CC compared to the AA genotype in both whites (-25% (95% C.I. -33.3 to -16.9); p <0.001) and South Asians (-25.2% (-40.5 to -6.1); p <0.012). There was insufficient power for this analysis in blacks. In conclusion, in whites and South Asians the C allele of the Thr715Pro P-selectin polymorphism is associated with lower sP-selectin levels. Lower levels of sP-selectin were not accounted for by this polymorphism in blacks, in whom the C allele was very rare.

Abstract:
As part of the continuing studies to develop high performance composite based on new kind of phenylethynyl end-capped imide oligomers for aerospace applications, PETI-type polyimide composites were prepared from carbon fibre (CF) and polyimide matrix resin derived from dianhydride (s-BPDA), 2,5-bis(4-aminophenoxy)-biphenyl(p-TPEQ) and 4-phenylethynylphthalic anhydride (PEPA). The mechanical properties were tested at both room temperature and 177 °C. The flexural properties were determined by 3-point-bending at room temperature. Thermal aging test was carried out by exposing samples at 177°C over 1000 hours, and the mechanical properties were also evaluated before and after isothermal aging. It was demonstrated that the composite had good thermal and mechanical properties.

Abstract:
Aim: In the current study we aimed to evaluate the role of trefoil factor 3 (TFF3) as a marker for complete mucosal healing (MH) in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). Methods: We enrolled 116 consecutive UC patients. Trefoil factor 3 levels were measured by ELISA and were compared to the clinical activity, assessed by Lichtiger Index, fecal calprotectin (FCP) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels. Colonoscopy was performed in all the patients and the findings were graded according to Mayo endoscopic score (EMS) and UC endoscopic index of severity (UCEIS). Results: Trefoil factor 3 levels were significantly correlated with Lichtiger Index (r=0.736, p<0.001), EMS (r=0.811, p<0.001), UCEIS (r=0.820, p<0.001), FCP (r=0.696, p<0.001) and CRP (r=0.405, p<0.001). The TFF3 cut-off level of 6.74 ng/ml indicated complete MH (EMS=0; UCEIS=0) with a sensitivity and specificity of 0.879 and 0.869, respectively (area under the curve, AUC 0.927; 95% confidence interval, 0.877–0.976). The DeLong’s test revealed no significant difference between the AUC of TFF3+CRP and the AUC of FCP (Z=1.717, p=0.086), AUC of TFF3+FCP (Z=1.908, p=0.056), and AUC of TFF3+CRP+FCPP (Z=1.915, p=0.056). However, the AUC of TFF3+CRP showed significant difference compared with the AUC of TFF3 (Z=2.210, p=0.027) and the AUC of CRP (Z=3.145, p=0.002) for predicting complete MH. Conclusions: Trefoil factor 3 levels correlated significantly with clinical activity, endoscopic indices, CRP and FCP in our patients. TFF3 is a highly predictive marker of complete MH independently and in combination with CRP in patients with UC.

Abstract:
Large areas of peatlands, in addition to the effect of drainage, were subjected to erosional process and were silted. The objective of the study was to verify whether siltation of peatlands hampers mineralization of remaining peat and alters labile C, N, P and K. Total C and N were measured on a CN analyzer, and total P and K on an ICP spectrometer after microwave digestion. The labile fractions of C, N, P and K were extracted with hot water and measured on the CN analyzer and ICP spectrometer. We noted that labile C, N, P and K concentrations in silted topsoil were lower than the values reported in unsilted topsoil. Higher concentration of labile compounds in peats is a signal of higher biological activity and mineralization of organic matter. A TOC/TP < 300 and TOC/TN of approximately 8 in topsoil suggested diminished mineralization and supported our hypothesis that siltation hampered mineralization of organic matter. The TOC/TK ratio proved to be a fine indicator of the state of organic soils siltation, which enabled the separation of unsilted peats from silted topsoil (on the base of value of 177). It can be assumed that the mineralization of peat layers is hampered by the above lying silted topsoil, which is less biologically active, having less oxygen, and therefore conserving underlying peats against oxidation.

Abstract:
The influence of different roasting temperatures on the physical properties of Arabica and Robusta coffee was investigated. Arabica (Rio Minas) of two quality classes and Robusta coffee samples, roasted at 167, 171 and 175?C, were used for this research. Bulk density, total weight loss, water activity, texture and colour of coffee were determined. Total weight loss increased, and bulk density of coffee beans decreased with increasing of roasting temperature. Arabica 1st class with the highest weight and volume also had the highest total weight loss and Robusta had the highest bulk density. Coffee samples roasted at 175?C had significantly lower (P<0.05) water activity values than samples roasted at 167?C and those changes mostly affected mechanical properties of beans. The highest breaking force values had Arabica 1st class, with lower share of black beans, roasted at 167?C and Arabica 2nd class roasted at 171 and 175?C, compared to other samples roasted at the same temperatures. Robusta beans had the most brittle and fragile texture. It can be concluded that texture of coffee depends on the roasting temperature, type and class of coffee as well. L*, a*, and b* colour parameters decreased as the roasting temperature increased, which affected on coffee beverage colour defined as brown (167?C) and dark brown (171?C and 175?C) with different share of yellowish, orange, reddish and grey shades. Sensory analysis can be used as a good tool for a detailed description of coffee colour, as an important indicator of quality, especially in industrial conditions of coffee production.

Abstract:
Johann Sebastian Bach is considered the foremost organist and composer of organ music of his time. His vast knowledge of the instrument and his ability to reveal the organ?s brilliance were unparalleled, taking the organ to its peak in the Baroque era. Bach perfected many musical styles and forms of the day, and also became well-known for his improvisational skills. However, by the end of Bach?s life, the styles and forms began to change. The forms Bach knew so well slowly gave way to new ideas, signaling the beginning of what music historians label the ?Classical? period. It was during this time that the popularity of the organ began to decline. Bach?s children left behind their father?s musical styles to try new, emerging styles. Although several did continue to compose for the organ, they composed mainly for other keyboard instruments or orchestras. In the middle of the eighteenth century, the Enlightenment changed not only the role of the church, but also people?s view of the church as well. Liturgical changes were made and the organ was viewed as part of the old style. Orchestras replaced the organ and, for the most part, organists either improvised or took a step back from their duties. However, the decline of organ music in the classical period did not equate to its complete disappearance. Bach?s compositions lost favor with the general public after his death, and his successors were left to carry on his legacy and the art of the organ. While Bach?s contributions to the organ world are vast and well-documented, the works of his successors are less familiar. This thesis will focus primarily on the organ repertoire of Bach?s successors during the period of change, the Pre-Classical period. The contributions of Bach?s best-known pupil, Johann Krebs, have been well documented, and research on Krebs is the starting point for this thesis. Research on Bach?s children and his other pupils is available, but one would be hard-pressed to find more than one or two articles of any length on their individual contributions. This thesis will attempt to combine the research on Bach?s sons and students, and reveal their contributions to organ literature as a bridge between Baroque and Classical periods. The first chapter will discuss Bach?s keyboard contributions, as well as styles prevalent in the Pre-Classical period. The second through fourth chapters will discuss Bach?s sons ? Wilhelm Friedemann, Carl Philipp Emanuel, and Johann Christian, respectively. The fifth and sixth chapters will include Johann Ludwig Krebs and Bach?s last two pupils. Research for this thesis primarily relies on books and scholarly articles about the Bach family and organ literature of the time period. Databases such as JStor, WorldCat, and the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians have been used to locate articles and recent findings. Research on this particular subject is not adequately covered in English. Most are written in Bach?s native language, German, with very few translated into the English language. This thesis covers both German and English articles, books, and journals on the topic.

Abstract:
Since the achaemenid period, Media lies a singular place between Mesopotamia and countries of the Iranian Plateau. It orders the access of both and is crossed by the Royal Main road which allows to connect Bactra. The Achaemenid kings make moreover of Ecbatana their summer residence, allowing them to control a hostile renowned territory, that of the mountains of Zagros, lived here by Cosseans. In fact, these are the Greek authors posterior to Alexander that deliver us a negative testimony of these mountain peoples : so, a re-examination of the literary documentation, numismatics and epigraphy allows to encircle the consequences of the Macedonian conquest in Media and to see the evolution of the territorial organization from the Seleucids to the Parthians. Seleucid kings make Ecbatana an important relay of the royal power, the authority of the satrap of Media also extending farther East, but, until the reign of Antiochus III, the territory of seleucid Media appears all the same to have missed coherence. Moreover, since Antiochos I, if Ecbatana certainly keeps its status of political capital of the High Satrapies, it is Seleucia on the Tigris who henceforth seems to have become the economic and financial capital. The policy of the Parthian kings, partly inheritance of that of Seleucid, marks a supplementary stage in the appropriation of the space, with a territorial integration in the interregional scale, containing Media and Babylonia : seleucid commons and contemporaries monograms of the mints of Seleucia and Ecbatana, then the division of labor operated in the parthian period between both mints are the proof

Abstract:

In the field of antimony, the first 1,2-distibacyclobutane with a SbSbCC sequence was isolated. Its formation involves the transient stibaallene ArSb=C=CR2 (Ar = 2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenyl, CR2 = fluorenylidene) followed by a head-to-head dimerization via two Sb=C double bonds. Molecular orbital calculations at the ab initio and DFT levels have been performed to understand the competition between head-to-head and head-to-tail dimerization. Attempts to synthesize the phosphastibaallene ArSb=C=PAr and reactions of di- and trisubstitution of antimony will be described. Concerning tin, a stable distannirane, the first stannic analogue of cyclopropane, was isolated and its structure was confirmed by X-ray analysis. Because of the probable lability of the tin-carbon double bond, the transient stannaallene Tip2Sn=C=CR2 (Tip = 2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl) could dissociate into carbene and stannylene, thus a reaction between the latter and the stannaallene should lead to the distannirane

Abstract:
This thesis is one part of a general research of the novel, non-expensive and environmentally friendly methods for the synthesis of the interesting molecules in the pharmaceutical, agrochemical or material field. In particular, the objective consists of creating the C-C and C-heteroatom (S, N, P) bonds by using copper, manganese catalysis or transition-metal-free system. In the first part, a copper-catalyzed palladium-free Sonogashira reaction has been realized under biphasic conditions (water / organic substrates) allowing decreasing the copper loading up to 0.02 – 0.2 mol% and a potential intermediate species of this reaction, corresponding to a copper cluster linked with acetylide moiety, has been identified by X-ray diffraction. In the second part, we described a novel carbon dioxide involved copper-catalyzed system for the methylthiolation of aryl halides using dimethylsufoxide as a source of methylthio group. The presence of carbon dioxide is a crucial factor for the formation of aryl methyl sulfides products and its role is discussed. The third part describes the manganese-catalyzed homocoupling and cross-coupling reactions via the formation in situ of aryllithium from corresponding aryl halides or arenes. According to the experimental conditions, the symmetrical or unsymmetrical biaryls could be obtained. An intermediate complex of manganese which could involve in the reaction mechanism was detected by ESI-MS.Finally, a transition-metal-free system associating DMF with t-BuOK has been developed to realize the arylation of aromatic halide derivatives and various nucleophiles such as pyrazol, imidazole, dialkyl disulfide or diarylphosphine oxide. This project is at a preliminary stage

Abstract:
AbstractDialectics is a philosophical method developed by Hegel (1770–1831), but building on an intellectual tradition whose origins can be traced back to ancient Greece. Dialectics was initially practiced as an educational technique for conducting philosophical discussions. For Hegel, however, dialectical processes can be discerned in the dramatic unfolding of nature, history and human thinking as such. The first dialectical thinker, in the genuine sense of the term, according to Hegel (1971), was Heraclitus (535 – c. 475 BC), in whose “obscure” aphorisms Hegel recognises the awareness that dialectics is more than merely a technique to foster critical reflection. Heraclitus already refers to a basic logic guiding the dynamics of nature as such, to a λόγος at work in actual processes of becoming and change, giving rise to contrasting and contradictory developments (“objective dialectics”, as Hegel phrases it). For dialectical thinkers, the dialectical method is fundamentally in tune with nature, because nature as such is inherently dialectical. Hegel considered Aristotle as ancient philosophy’s most thoroughly dialectical thinker, as we have seen, while Hegel himself is regarded as a modern Aristotle (Beiser, 2005, p. 57; Pippin, 2019, p. 301).

Abstract:
Since hypertension is generally accepted as a risk factor for atherosclerosis and, on the other hand, alterations in haemostasis were reported in the disease, we focused our interest on two plasma inhibitors-protein C and antithrombin III, which play critical roles in the regulation of blood clotting process. We studied 19 patients with newly diagnosed essential hypertension at ist and 2ncl degreeof the disease (acc.to WHO criteria). Protein C antigen level was measured by means of ELISA Protein C test (Boehringer Mannheim GmbH).AT III and Factor VIII R:Ag concentrations were measured by rocket immunoelectrophoresis acc.to Laurell using monospecific antisera (Behringwerke AG, Marburg). In comparison with healthy subjects the patients with essential hypertension revealed statistically significant decrease in protein C antigen level (79 t 21% vs 101 ± 16; p≺0.01) and substantially increased F. VIII R: Ag values (174 ± 72% vs 103 ± 33%; p p≺0.01). No significant correlation was found between F. VIII R:Ag and protein C level. The patients had also elevation of AT III concentration ofno statistical significance. Since F. VIII R:Ag is produced and released by endothelial cells its elevated level in patients with hypertension may reflect injuryto the vascular wall. Decreased levels of protein C probably due to its increased consumption observed in the patients may contribute to imbalance in the haemostatic system and promote vascular complications.

Abstract:
Increased levels of several coagulation factors and reduced levels of anti thrombin III (ATIII) have been observed in adults on oestrogen medication and in girls who were treated for excessive tallness with high doses of ethinyloestradiol (E2). In females using oral contraceptives an additional effect on the protein C system has been reported. In our study we evaluated the effect of e-thinyloestradiol treatment (0.1-0.3 mg, administered for at least 6 months) in 14 tall girls (age 14 + 2 yr and height 179 + 4 cm). 13 girls of comparable age (13 + 2 yr) and height 175 + 7 cm) served as controls. Protein C, protein S, C4-binding protein as well as Factor II, plasminogen and ATIII antigen levels were determined by rocket immunoelectrophoresis. ATI11 heparin cofactor ami do-lytic activity was assessed using S2222. Protein S antigen not in complex with C4b-binding protein (PSfree), was assayed in the supernatant plasma after selective precipitation of the protein S-C4b-binding protein complex with PEG 8000. Complete separation of free protein S and PS-C4b-bp complex was verified with crossed immunoelectrophoresis. Results were expressed as % of a normal pool. In the group of girls who were being treated with ethinyl oestradiol (E2-users) significantly higher levels (P<0.001) were observed for protein C (126 ± 29 vs 88 ± 10 in the controls), Factor II (109 ± 18 vs 81 ± 12 in the controls) and plasminogen (131 ± 19 vs 85 ± 9 in the controls). Protein S (58 ± 10 vs 97 ± 8 in the controls) and PSfree (54 ± 11 vs 88 ± 11 in the controls) were sig nificantly reduced (P<0.001) in the E2-users. Only a slight reduction was observed in ATIII antigen levels (95 ± 16 vs 104 ± 9 in the controls) and in the ATIII heparin cofactor activity (105 ± 14 vs 104 ± 9 in the controls). No difference between E2-users and controls was observed in the C4b-binding protein levels (111 ± 25 vs 114 ± 33).Results indicate that treatment of tall girls with high doses of synthetic oestrogens is associated with in vitro signs of hypercoagulability quite comparable to those observed in adult females. However, in contrast to observations made in adults no thromboembolic complications have been reported in juvenile subjects on E2-medication implying additional (aqe-related) variables in the qe-nesis of thrombosis.

Abstract:
A- A+ The effects of processing conditions and addition of the sucrose esters S-170 and P-170 on crystallization kinetics and polymorphism of cupuassu fat and its fractions obtained at 29, 26, and 24 °C were study by polarized light microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and in situ small-angle (SAXS) and wide angle (WAXS) X-ray scattering using synchrotron light. Polymorphic transitions were followed in real time tempering samples with a thermal cycle or crystallizing them isothermally at different cooling rates. Cupuassu fat and stearin fractions obtained at 26 and 24°C crystallized under the beta’2-form in the conditions selected. beta2-form was obtained after storage at 25 °C for 3 months. Stearin fraction obtained at 29 °C (S-29) had a complex polymorphic behavior. There was a polymorphic transition from α to β’1-form but no transition between β’-forms was observed. They were independent to each other showing fractionation in two different solid solutions. β1-form crystallized after storage forming crystals with a double-layer arrangement and a characteristic morphology. Addition of sucrose esters S-170 and P-170 allow overcoming these drawbacks since they modified polymorphic behavior, allowing crystallizing S-29 in only one β’-form, and also increased S-29’s β2 tendency during storage, improving its suitability for applications in chocolate and coatings

Abstract:
The deacylation of the thrombolytic acyl-enzyme APSAC (BRL 26921) has been studied in various media using a radiochemical method. In a buffer containing glycerol, the half-life for deacylation at pH 7.4, 37°C vi/as c. 20-50 min. depending on the concentration of APSAC. The concentration-dependence u/as found to be linked to the availability of free enzyme active centres during the deacylation process and could be normalised to about 50 min. by addition of inhibitors of plasmin or streptokinase, plasmin. In glycerol-free buffer, the deacylation half-life was 147 ± 5 min., indicating that glycerol, which is required to stabilise SK.Pm in activity-based assays caused artefactual acceleration of deacylation. In human plasma, the deacylation half-life was 104 ± 6 min. and was not concentration-dependent. In clotted human plasma, under conditions where APSAC was fibrin-bound, the deacylation half-life was 128 ± 10 min. which suggested that the deacylation process was not significantly influenced by binding of molecule to fibrin. The deacylation rate of APSAC in human plasma was similar to the plasma clearance rate at therapeutic doses in man (Been, M. et al., Int. J. Cardiol. 11 (1980) 53-61)
