The paper presents information about the occurrence of digger wasps in the Pomeranian Lake District and on the Baltic Coast. Samples were collected from 1983 to 2016. The study yielded a total of 127 species (about 53% of Polish fauna) belonging to 35 genera; were recorded 22 species are new for the Baltic Coast and 2 are new for the Pomeranian Lake District. Also, 22 of the species identified are on the Red List of Threatened Animals in Poland: Ammophila pubescens Curtis, 1836, Bembix rostrata (Linnaeus, 1758), Cerceris ruficornis (Fabricius, 1793), Crossocerus congener. Velvet worms, also known as peripatus or onychophorans, are a phylum of evolutionary importance that has survived all mass extinctions since the Cambrian period. They capture prey with an adhesive net that is formed in a fraction of a second. The first naturalist to formally describe them was Lansdown Guilding (1797-1831), a British priest from the Caribbean island of Saint Vincent. His life is as little known as the history of the field he initiated, Onychophorology. This is the first general history of Onychophorology, which has been divided into half-century periods. Speculation about igneous rock diversity began in the first half of the nineteenth century after acceptance of the existence of ancient volcanism and the recognition of two fundamental types of lava: basalt and trachyte. Before 1850, George Poulett Scrope (1797-1876), Charles Darwin (1809-1882), and James Dwight Dana (1813-1895) attributed diversity to intumescence of gas-rich lava, crystal settling, and differential fusion of minerals. In the 1850s, Robert Bunsen (1811-1899) maintained that lava is derived from two deep normal trachytic and normal pyroxenic sources.

Abstract Classification of the Bivalvia has proved contentious for well over a century, and new classifications at high taxonomic level are still produced regularly. But in a group of organisms, represented today by tens of thousands of species and with an excellent fossil record, why should taxonomy at higher levels cause such problems? The answer is readily available. On the one hand, zoologists have traditionally used structures of the soft parts, in particular the gill grade (e.g. Fischer, 1880-87; Pelseneer, 1889, 1891, 1906, 1911; Ridewood, 1903), the degree of fusion of the mantle margi

Abstract After the Restoration of the monarchy, in 1660, performances of The Taming ef the Shrew were normally given in heavily adapted texts, such as John Lacy’s Sauny the Scot (1667), Christopher Bullock’s The Cobbler if Preston (17I6), and, above all, David Garrick’s Catharine and Petruchio (1754), which held the stage until the late nineteenth century with the exception of the production given at the Haymarket Theatre in 1844 and 1847 under the auspices of its manager, Benjamin Webster (1797-1873) and the playwright and antiquarian James Robinson Planche which, uniquely for its time, also
