Abstract:
British theatre in the nineteenth century operated very much like a family business. Touring companies of necessity depended upon core family groups to manage the affairs, to perform the plays, and to nurture the children. London companies—though not so inbred as the provincials—often saw husbands and wives, parents and children perform together; indeed acting dynasties established in the last century extended well into this one. These actors, at whatever age, were perforce versatile, as an evening's bill might require appearances in an opening melodrama, a Shakespearean tragedy, then a farce to finish. And each of the items on an evening's playbill required scenery. The job of providing those sets was likewise often a family undertaking, though one that lacked female roles: father taught son; son taught grandson. From the beginning of the century until almost the end, the Grieve family—John Henderson Grieve (1770–1845), his sons Thomas (1799–1882) and William (1800–1844), and grandson Thomas Walford Grieve (1841–1899)—designed and painted scenery for some of the most important productions of those years—as well as for some of the most inconsequential and forgettable.

Abstract:
Disease ecology is a relevant but relatively unexplored subject of research in urban coyotes ( Canis latrans Say, 1823). In fact, this carnivore may play a role in the circulation of parasites that can have implications on the health of humans and domestic dogs, but can also be affected by pathogens transmitted from domestic reservoirs. To investigate the gastrointestinal parasites of urban coyotes in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, we analyzed 61 carcasses and 247 fecal samples collected within the metropolitan area, including city parks, in 2009–2010. We found nine parasite taxa: Toxascaris leonina (Linstow, 1902), Uncinaria stenocephala (Railliet, 1884), Ancylostoma caninum (Ercolani, 1859), Pterygodermatites affinis (Jägerskiöld, 1904), Trichuris vulpis (Froelich, 1789), Echinococcus multilocularis Leuckart, 1863, Taenia crassiceps (Zeder, 1800), genus Giardia Kunstler, 1882, and genus Cystoisospora Frenkel, 1977. Factors related to coyote ecology, habitat characteristics, and dog management likely influence the community of coyote parasites in an urban environment, and need to be taken into account to assess the actual role of this carnivore in the maintenance of parasites in the city landscape. Further research is needed to assess the current risk for transmission of potentially zoonotic parasites (e.g., E. multilocularis, T. crassiceps, Giardia sp.) among coyotes, dogs, and humans.

Abstract:
In this study we describe the karyotypes and molecular phylogenetic relationships of the leaf frogs Phyllomedusa bahiana Lutz, 1925, Phyllomedusa burmeisteri Boulenger, 1882, Phyllomedusa nordestina Caramaschi, 2006, Phyllomedusa rohdei Mertens, 1926, Phyllomedusa hypochondrialis (Daudin, 1800), and Phasmahyla spectabilis Cruz, Feio and Nascimento, 2008. We analyzed the karyotypes using C-banding, fluorochrome staining, and fluorescence in situ hybridization of telomeric probe, and inferred phylogeny using nuclear tyrosinase and mitochondrial 16S rDNA sequences. Heterochromatin distribution in P. nordestina diverged from the other species, and P. bahiana and P. rohdei showed evident interstitial telomere sequences. Molecular analyzes confirmed the current taxonomic classification, grouping mitochondrial DNA sequences of each species, and usually without haplotype sharing in the nuclear gene. We also extended the distribution of P. burmeisteri to northern Bahia state and restricted P. bahiana to southern Bahia state, with a discrete extension of the range of P. bahiana to the north and northeast of Minas Gerais state. The tyrosinase haplotype network showed a haplotype shared between P. bahiana and P. burmeisteri from Porto Seguro, Bahia. Based on this, we suggest a new distribution in the overlapping area between these two species, which according to our data ranges between Porto Seguro and Camacan, in Bahia state.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Genesis of the zionist project (1800- 1882) " is a study whose goal is to reexamine , from the viewopoint of history and ideas , the conditions under which the zionist project was born. It constitutes a study ( limited in time , on the one hand, by the french expedition in the orient and , on the other , by the arrivalof the first zionist colonists , in 1882 , in palestine ) involving both english expansionism and the philosophical ideas which accompanied it - indeed , the strategic conception of establishing a colony in palestine was an intrinsic part of general british expansionism. Abstract:

Abstract:
Wilhelm August Ernst Haden (1800 Dresden - 1882 Lotzdorf), war Freigutsbesitzer zu Lotzdorf bei Radeberg, Abgeordneter und Zweiter Vizepräsident im Sächs. Landtag. Vizepräsidenten der I. Kammer gewählt.

Abstract:
This study investigated the contributions of John Nelson Darby to selected institutions of contemporary theological higher education. A qualitative approach to the investigation was employed. Archival foraging occupied a greater part of the research data and yielded rich returns as evidenced in the literature review. Purposeful sampling was also utilized. The faculty and administration of three institutions, Moody Bible Institute, Dallas Theological Seminary, and Emmaus Bible College, were mailed questionnaires comprising 22 questions to ascertain their opinions of Darby's contributions to their institutions. Of the 22 questions, 21 were of a Likert type scale offering 5 options: Strongly agree, Agree, Not sure, Disagree, and Strongly disagree; and 1 open-ended question. A response rate of 45% (N=27) was achieved. All results were statistically significant at the p=.05 level utilizing chi-square goodness-of-fit tests.

Abstract:
In 19th century Sweden women preached in the popular revival movements as they did in the other Nordic countries, in Great Britain and the United States. One of the most famous preachers in Sweden was Nelly Hall (1848–1916). Internal and external evidence of her public life is the main focus of the study, and in this way it seeks to uncover the origin of her inspiration and to specify her connection to the spiritual movements of the time, at the same time that it analyses the reception and the debate of women as preachers in the period when she was active. Nelly Hall studied at the Royal School for Women’s Higher Teacher Education and worked as a teacher for ten years before she decided to enter into the ministry of preaching. She was influenced by the Anglo-American Holiness movement and had close contacts with the Salvation Army in London. From 1883 she travelled in the southern parts of Sweden. Thousands of people listened to her and as part of her ministry she practised faith healing. She went on preaching tours to Finland, Norway, Germany and the United States. When the Swedish Holiness Mission started as a small mission society in 1887 it was to some extent a result of the preaching work carried out by Nelly Hall. She was elected a member of the first board and worked as a mission secretary for ten years. Around 1900 there was a shift in her theological thinking and she became more absorbed by apocalyptic ideas. In 1901 she went for the second time to the United States and lived there until 1916 when she died in Brockton, Massachusetts. Little is known about the last fifteenth years of her life. The ministry of Nelly Hall and other women raised considerable public interest and in the Swedish context her time of ministry coincided with the emerging movement for the emancipation of women. Many were against women preaching in public and the discussions often occurred in the press. Parts of these discussions as well as several pamphlets in favour of women’s preaching are analysed in this study.

Abstract:

Karlowicz, Tobias Amadeus. "Reclaiming Pusey for theology : allegory, communion, and sacrifice." Thesis, University of St Andrews, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10023/4122.

Full text
Abstract:
Edward Bouverie Pusey once towered over nineteenth-century British theology, but he has now fallen into almost entire insignificance. However, analysis of this decline (Chapter 1) leads to a reassessment. His development—especially his complicated relationship with pre-Tractarian High Church Anglicanism—shows a deep criticism of post-Enlightenment intellectual trends, from his early years through his association with the Oxford Movement and the Tracts for the Times, to the end of his life (Chapter 2). This criticism led him to the patristic use of allegory, both as a biblical hermeneutic and as a creative, complex, image-based approach to theology (Chapter 3). His development of High Church theology (seen especially through comparison with Waterland) and his use of allegory can be traced throughout his theology. His understanding of union with Christ and theosis reveals both: the sacraments have a strong symbolic dimension, while his positions on baptismal regeneration and the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist show a development rather than a rejection of earlier High Church theology (Chapters 4 and 5). His understanding of the atonement blends High Church reliance on sacrificial types with his unitive theology to reconfigure traditional satisfaction theory as restoration of love for God, rather than redemption from punishment—a position which marks Pusey as an important transitional figure in 19th c. theology (Chapter 6). The flexibility of Pusey's allegorical approach also allows him to blend a High Church tradition of spiritual sacrifice with sacramental participation in Christ's self-offering, so that sacrifice becomes an aspect of union with Christ (Chapter 7). Pusey's use of allegory shows similarities to postmodern theology, while his development of High Church theology shows his originality (Chapter 8).

Abstract:
This Master’s (60 credits) dissertation paper examines how three Swedish newspapers describe the political ideology called anti–Semitism in Germany, from the day it was born in end of October 1879 until January 1882 after the campaigns of persecution of Jews in Russia and Germany.Politically, the 1880s were formative years in Swedish history. A party system emerged slowly andseveral new political ideologies found their way into Swedish political life. Many of those wereinfluences from Germany: socialism, nationalism, political conservatism. But also anti–Semitism. This paper is a comparative study between the newspapers Dagens Nyheter (liberal), Nya DagligtAllehanda (conservative) and Stockholms Dagblad (conservative) and describe how the anti–Semitic political movement in Germany, and the ongoing atrocities against Jews in Russia andGermany, were being portrayed in the Swedish media. The survey in the essay shows that the newspapers describe the political ideology anti-Semitismvery differently. Liberal Dagens Nyheter was highly critical against the political form of hatredagainst the Jews, but so was also conservative Stockholms Dagblad, although the latter had a higherdegree of a neutral type of reporting than the former. Stockholms Dagblad leaned towards supportof a Bismarckian type of conservatism, (which at this time had not yet embraced hatred againstJews as an official policy). The newspaper of the three with the strongest support of the anti-Semitic political movement inGermany was the daily Nya Dagligt Allehanda, which very often expressed and reproduced anti-Semitic constructions and derogatory and racist views on Jews. However, the newspaper Nya Dagligt Allehanda did not embrace the most extreme and violent formof anti-Semitism which were being advocated by some German politicians in the 1880s, whichincluded the deportation or even mass murder of Jews.
