Abstract:
The genus Eurypharsa Stål 1873 is reviewed. Tingis circumdata Blanchard 1842 [not 1847] has priority over Tingis nobilis Guérin-Méneville 1844 and is transferred to Eurypharsa. Eurypharsa phyllophila Drake 1922 is subjectively synonymized with Eurypharsa circumdata [new combination, revised status]. Herein we designate lectotypes for Tingis circumdata and Eurypharsa quadrifenestrata Bergroth 1898, present the first identification key to the species of Eurypharsa, and provide differential diagnoses for all known species. We also report Eurypharsa championi Bergroth 1922, from Bolivia, E. circumdata from Costa Rica and Trinidad, and E. fenestrata Champion 1898a, from Costa Rica and Ecuador for the first time.

Abstract:
The Geological Survey of Canada, the oldest scientific organization in the nation, was founded in 1842, at a time when major changes were taking place in the sciences of geology, chemistry and biology. Geochemistry was not yet recognized as a science in North America, although the word had been coined and the field outlined in 1838 by C. F. Schönbein, the Swiss chemist. Thomas Sterry Hunt (1826-1892) was appointed chemist and mineralogist to the Geological Survey in 1847 by Sir William Logan, first director of the Survey. For the next 25 years Hunt carried out geochemical research on most aspects of the science and added materially to the establishment of various geological principles. Sterry Hunt has been called the "Father of Chemical Geology, or Geochemistry, in North America." Following Hunt, many able men, including B. J. Harrington, F. D. Adams, G. C. Hoffman, and R. A. A. Johnston occupied the position of chemist and mineralogist to the Survey during the period 1872-1922. They were followed by E. Poitevin and H. V. Ellsworth who served from 1922 until 1952. H. V. Ellsworth laid the foundations of 20th Century geochemistry in the Geological Survey. His extensive studies of the distribution of rare elements (e.g., Li, Zr, Nb, U, Th, etc.) in Canadian minerals and rocks, and his studies of geochronology employing uranium-lead methods, had universal significance in geochemistry.

Abstract:
This is the second part of the article where the available information from the published literature on the wing dimorphism/polymorphism occurring among true bugs (Heteroptera) is reviewed from a functional viewpoint. This paper covers the case studies on phytophagous species and draws some general conclusions. Wing dimorphism/polymorphism has been studied in detail at the red firebug: Pyrrhocoris apterus (Linnaeus, 1758), at some blissid species - mainly at the Oriental chinch bug: Cavelerius saccharivorus (Okajima,1922) - at some lygaeid species and at the red-shouldered soapberry bug Jadera haematoloma (Herrich-Schäffer, 1847) (Rhopalidae). In general, the macropterous form has a delayed sexual maturation, which further enhances its dispersal ability but represents an obvious reproductive disadvantage. In most known cases of the hemipteran wing dimorphism/polymorphism the wing form is affected by environmental factors (polyphenism), but examples of genetically determined wing dimorphism also have been documented among Lygaeinae. Seasonal wing dimorphism/polymorphism is very common among the well-studied northern temperate species. Wing dimorphic/polymorphic phytophagous “outbreak” species (Blissidae, Leptoterna dolobrata) react with mass production of the otherwise rare macropters to high population density and altered food quality. An underlying wing muscle dimorphism/polymorphism frequently co-exists with the externally visible wing dimorphism/polymorphism. Known cases of full or partial de-alation are also mentioned and briefly discussed.

Abstract:

The lengthening of times gives to Sorel the originality of a thought marked by inconstancy in front ot the immediacy. Inconstant, the tools Marxists escape to him to apprehend long times of international fights. This dissertation is about the brotherhood of Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Pelotas (Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil) between 1847 and 1922. Typical associations in the Luso world, the Misericórdias, were organized in several places, and they were responsible for assisting poor people. The Misericórdia of Pelotas was founded during the Second Empire taking over several assistance activities. To that extent, it supported a hospital (1848) where the exposed (abandoned children) and sick ones were received. It monopolized funerals and transportation to a cemetery (founded in 1855). It also supported two chapels to say mass for the brothers’ and sponsors’ souls. The brothers and mainly directors belonged to the political, economical and social local elites. Consequently, the richest ones could closely control the poor ones assistance. The brotherhood income came from donors (mainly), paid funerals, subvention and privilege given by the State. The study reveals that the main change in the way that relief was thought is contemporary to the slavery and Monarchy fall period, by the end of 1880’s, when the local elites lost their regional political power as well. From that time on, there were changes in the brotherhood composition (wide open admission) and assistance distribution, which was organized according to the new social and political configuration. The new administrations concentrated their efforts in the hospital activity redefinition that should receive not only the poor ones, but also those who could pay.

Paris 10, 1986. http://www.theses.fr/1986PA100117.

Abstract:
In a first place, may we explain that we have tried to emphasize all elements that differenciate, in classicism, the various modes (major: ABSOLUTE) and (minor: relatively prosaic) the spiritual movement of purity and the psycho-ethic constellation of the moderation that one can find in prudence and rationality as opposed to the logic of utopic reasoning. Secondly, must be taken into consideration: a/ the relashionship created in the net which gave birth to the creative thought. B/ The Judeo-Christian inheritance and the heritage of the Indo-European languages, to create a fact: i. E. The Occident being metaphysically “RIGHT” by nature the “LEFT” being untraceable. In connection with the above two trains of thoughts, G. Sorel may feel that he has been the intellectual amorce which through rural aspects, caused the explosion of the complicities: social and urban – psychological and political – which feed both right and left: those political parts being the main instruments of the Government while the truth archetypes of the rights as well as of the left should only be seen through the PASCAL’s train of thoughts, which raised the “Yeast Thought”, anarchist, permanently stammering, to which one must oppose the progressive and careful skepticism of the Cartesian posterity, which naturally comes to “LA PENSEE DU LEVIER” in the Occidental world, the ARCHE fights the GENESIS. The Hegemony of the sense of sight and spatial, architectural and juridic representation dominate the mystic perception by ears and creative vitality which gives preference to humility against the “duodenum” of cruelty and statistician biologism. Finally, all that represents “ORDER” and the “unalterable” aspect of its ethico-ethetism is what genuinely respect means as opposed to respectability to the organization and the everlasting rationality of its development. One must bear in mind archaisms being purely reconducted can only be a form of modernism which is bound to become obsolete. Georges SOREL has pointed out the fact that the necessity of aiming at technical progress in a rather tragic way: the confusion between two values. Our conclusion might be: A choice between ELEVATION… search of the ABSOLUTE… or an easier process: look for comfort and facility… The first aim is certainly more rewarding in the end!. .

Abstract:

Abstract: The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate the hypothesis that central categories present in Prison Notebooks come from the critical assimilation of concepts developed by Georges Sorel, in a personal trajectory in which the French thinker was involved in the revisionist production of his time, in direct or indirect dialogue with her. We consider the categories of "historical block", "myth" and "class scission" as emblematic. Furthermore, are the most acute representatives of revisionist thinking in Europe the "vanguard of the opponent's thought", which fulfilled the call in defiance to assimilating their more elaborate moments, overcome it critically conferring a new force to the philosophy of praxis. This is assumed to be a persecuted way in the Prison Notebooks. We will point out and discuss the moments of critical assimilation and appropriation by Gramsci of the revisionist thinking represented, above all, by Georges Sorel. Before that, however, we will follow the constitution of that thought, since their best-known moments, from Germany, through its most important expressions in France and in Italy for, after we understand historically its "marginal" context (i.e. outside of Germany), we can achieve the debate that we consider in a more central point of view, which is Georges Sorel in Cadernos do Cárcere as an important depository of revisionist inheritance

Perez, Lopez Carlos. Paris 8, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012PA083998.

Abstract:
At the crossroad of Walter Benjamin’s (“Critique of Violence”, 1921) and Georges Sorel’s (“Reflections on Violence”, 1908) political reflections, the general strike represents a mutual understanding of how to undertake a critique of violence. However, the diverging use of one concept employed for criticizing violence – that of myth – blurs the relation between the two thinkers. In order to correctly assess what is at stake in Benjamin’s concepts of myth and strike, it is necessary to investigate Sorel’s idea of myth and the history of the general strike in the 19th Century. Exploring the texts of Benjamin, we discover that his reference to Sorel forms part of a projection of Benjamin’s political thought, placed in the context of a substantial transformation of Kant’s philosophical system. From this perspective, the revolutionary process of the general strike reveals three transformations of Kant’s philosophy: an ethics of the class struggle, a critique of political dogmas and a new temporality of history. The reference to the general strike exceeds, therefore, a simple political empathy between Benjamin and Sorel. The social phenomenon of the general strike reveals nothing less than the historical trace, in both thinkers, of an experience both political and metaphysical

The key point of this work is the mathematics in tis more pleasant way, with its charms that explain much of what students would like to see justified on their daily lives. It is also considered the relevance of the transmission of scientific knowledge, whose pleasure is usually reduced because the student needs the previous knowledge socially produced to raise oneself culturally, providing to the student with intellectual enrichment. The Graham Bell tetrahedral kite is the motivating factor to study some topics of mathematics in high school, namely geometric progressions, similar triangles and pyramids

Abstract:

During the first half of this century research on halo phenomena seems to have been in a chaotic state. Particularly the lists and theoretical views of Bravais (1847), Pernter and Exner (1922), Minnaert (1954) and Visser (1957, 1960) about the rarest known halos did not have much in common.
