Abstract:
Clarina syriaca (Lederer, 1855) was known from Cyprus by a single adult specimen collected in 1950. Recently, an adult and larva have been found, proving the existence of a breeding population. Clarina syriaca is thus confirmed as resident in Cyprus, as a relict population inhabiting riparian gallery forests, which act as isolated refugia surrounded by drier pine woodland or cultivated land. Information is provided on the early life history stages of C. syriaca, with further notes on its taxonomic status, biology, ecology, and host plants.

Cheilolejeunea decursiva (Sande Lacoste 1855: 522) Schuster (1963: 112) is a pantropical species, but only one record based on F. C. Hoehne’s collection from Southeast Brazil is known as Microlejeunea subaphanes Herzog (1950: 70) in America (Shu et al. 2014). Recent molecular phylogenetic studies have confirmed that Microlejeunea (Spruce 1884: 286) Stephani (1888: 61) is a good genus which is closely related to Lejeunea Libert (1820: 372) (Dong et al. 2013; Wei 2013). This landmark observation paved the way for progress in understanding and treating adrenal insufficiency, with the introduction of adrenal extracts for treatment of Addison’s disease by the groups of Hartman and Pfiffner in 1929. However, long-term survival of patients with adrenal insufficiency only became possible after the seminal work of Edward Kendall, Philip Hench, and Tadeus Reichstein on the characterization and therapeutic use of cortisone.
