The scientific paper analyzes an anonymous report to the Bucharest newspaper “Narodnost” published as “Letter from Bulgaria” in two consecutive issues in March 1869. The author of the report has not revealed his real name but has nevertheless left specific indicative signs that give material reason to believe this person was Vasil Levski himself. The thesis formulated herewith is supported by relevant evidence. The anonymous report is an important historical evidence for the participation of Vasil Levski in the revolutionary detachment action of 1867. At the same time, its overall contents com

Michael Vignola, “Anthony Trollope’s Leap in the Dark: The Temporality of Victorian Political Reform and Victorian Women’s Suffrage” (pp. 321–353) Anthony Trollope’s Phineas Finn (1867; 1869) depicts the seminal expansion of democracy under the Second Reform Act, an event that had yet to conclude when he finished composing the novel. This unique circumstance gives rise in the novel to anticipations that await real-world contingencies to become legible. Phineas Finn’s thick particularities thus bring into focus the temporality of reform characterized by the indeterminacy encoded in the phrase “

Charles Tringham, William Chatfield and Christian Julius Toxward are all alleged to have started practices in Wellington in the mid-1860s. Numerous tenders for building work by Tringham and Toxward can be found in newspapers at the time, but tenders by Chatfield do not appear until 1875. There also appears to have been little other competition at the time. Tringham came to New Zealand from England as a carpenter, progressed to being a builder, and was calling himself an architect by 1867.
