Voyno-Yasenetsky Valentin Feliksovich (Archbishop Luka) Archbishop of Crimea and Simferopol, Russian and Soviet surgeon, the author of works in anesthesiology, doctor of medical Sciences (1916), Professor (1917); doctor of theology (1959), winner of the Stalin prize, first degree (1946).
 
 F. Voino-Yasenetsky was born 27 APR 1877. After graduating from high school and Kiev art school, studied painting in Munich. In 1898 he became a student of the medical faculty of Kiev University, after which he worked as a surgeon in Chita, the town of Ardatov in Simbirsk province S. Verkhniy Lyubazh, Kursk region, town of Fatezh, Moscow. In 1915 he published in Saint Petersburg the book "Regional anesthesia", and in 1916 he defended it as his thesis and received the degree of doctor of medicine. Until 1917 the doctor in some of the provincial hospitals of Russia, and later the chief doctor of Tashkent city hospital, Professor of Central Asian state University. In 1921 he was ordained to the diaconate, a week a priest in 1923 he was tonsured a monk and consecrated a Bishop with the name Luca, a week later arrested. In 1926 V. F. Voyno-Yasenetsky returned to Tashkent, but in 1930 he was arrested again and transported to Arkhangelsk. In 1934 he published a monograph "Sketches of purulent surgery". In 1937 he was arrested for the third time. Since 1940, works as a surgeon in the link in Bolshaya Murta, 110 kilometers from Krasnoyarsk. 1941 – consultant to all hospitals in the Krasnoyarsk territory and the chief surgeon of the hospital. In 1942 was elevated to the rank of Archbishop and appointed to the chair of Krasnoyarsk. In 1944, published the monograph "On the course of chronic empyema and hundreth" and "Late resections of infected gunshot wounds of the joints." In 1944, Archbishop Luke was headed by the Department of Tambov. In 1945, awarded the Patriarch Alexy I right to wear the diamond cross, wrote the book "Spirit, soul and body." In 1946 he headed the Crimean Department in Simferopol. In 1946 he was awarded the Stalin prize. In 1955, was blind. Died V. F. Voyno-Yasenetsky June 11, 1961, Archbishop of Crimea and Simferopol.
 
 Author of 55 scientific papers on surgery and anatomy, ten volumes of sermons. His most famous book "Sketches of purulent surgery". Awarded Pointscore (1916), the diamond cross from the Patriarch of all Russia (1944), medal "For valiant labor in the great Patriotic war" (1945), Stalin prize first degree (1944).
 Archbishop Luka monuments in Krasnoyarsk, Tambov, and Simferopol, is an honorary citizen of Pereslavl-Zalessky (posthumously). In 1995, St Luke canonized as locally venerated saints of the Crimean diocese, in 2000, the definition of the Council of bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church glorified as a Confessor (Saint) in the Assembly of new martyrs and Confessors of Russia. His relics are installed for worship at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Simferopol.

A tételes, a Mollusca törzset számba vevő repertórium hiányzik hazánk nagymúltú tudománytörténetéből, így jelen munkámmal a Földtani Közlöny 150 éves évfordulója alkalmából egyrészt a fent nevezett hiányt szeretném pótolni, valamint tisztelegni az elmúlt másfél évszázad szerzői és munkáik előtt. Az 1871 és 1945 közötti időszak valamennyi fellelhető lapszámát áttekintve, valamint a lentebb közölt adatsorok nyomán láthatjuk, hogy a magyar kutatói hagyaték kiemelkedően értékes. Bár a geológia igen szoros kapcsolatban áll az írásomban közreadott, döntően fosszilis mintákkal, de alapvetően rendszertani és tudományos szempontból a földtannak mégis csak határterülete. A közlönyben talán a legnagyobb ábrázolásszámmal a Mollusca törzs képviselőivel találkozhatunk, melyek kormeghatározási, őskörnyezetföldrajzi, üledéktani, evolúciós és számtalan más területnek értékes adatszolgáltatói kortól függetlenül. Célom jelen írásommal, hogy a Földtani Közlöny 1871 és 1945 közötti valamennyi lapszámának Mollusca ábrázolásainak repertóriumát közreadni úgy, hogy az összes fellelhető fényképes és/vagy rajzolt szövegközi, illetve táblázatos, így valamennyi ábrázolást összegyűjtsem.   Catalog and Bibliography of Mollusc Representations in the Geological Gazette between 1871–1945 (1946) The lack of catalog of Mollusc representations has been a debt during the long history of science in Hungary. Therefore, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Földtani Közlöny (Geological Gazette), I would like to fi ll this gap with my present work and to pay tribute to the authors and their work over the last one and a half centuries. Reviewing all available issues from 1871 to 1945 and from the data published below, the contributions of Hungarian researchers is valuable and prominent. Although geology is very closely related to the predominantly fossil samples showed in my paper, yet, it is only a peripheral subject area of geology from a taxonomic and scientifi c point of view. The largest number of representations in the gazette were from the phylum Mollusca which provide valuable data for dating, prehistoric geographical, sedimentary, evolutionary, and countless other areas. The aim of my present work is to provide a list of all Molluscan illustrations published in the Geological Gazette between 1871 and 1945 including all photographs and drawings in the text as well as on plates.

Abstract:
A review of genus-group names for darkling beetles in the family Tenebrionidae (Insecta: Coleoptera) is presented. A catalogue of 4122 nomenclaturally available genus-group names, representing 2307 valid genera (33 of which are extinct) and 761 valid subgenera, is given. For each name the author, date, page number, gender, type species, type fixation, current status, and first synonymy (when the name is a synonym) are provided. Genus-group names in this family are also recorded in a classification framework, along with data on the distribution of valid genera and subgenera within major biogeographical realms. A list of 535 unavailable genus-group names (e.g., incorrect subsequent spellings) is included. Notes on the date of publication of references cited herein are given, when known. A két világháború között Erdélyben csak a kolozsvári román I. Ferdinánd Király Egyetemen volt lehetőség pszichológiát és filozófiát tanulni; a pszichológiai érdeklődést egyesületek, folyóiratok tartották fenn. A második bécsi döntés utáni időszakban (1940–1944), a Szegedről Kolozsvárra visszaköltözött egyetem Lélektani Intézetében (professzor: Várkonyi Hildebrand Dezső), majd 1945–1959 között létrejött Bolyai Tudományegyetem Pszichológiai Tanszéke (vezetője 1946–1947-ben Harkai Schiller Pál, majd Zörgő Benjamin) tevékenységéhez kapcsolódik a képzés és kutatás. The Neotropical spider genus Thaumasia Perty, 1833 is revised. Seven of the known species are redescribed andillustrated: Thaumasia senilis Perty, 1833 (type-species); T. abrahami Mello-Leitão, 1948; T. annulipes F.O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1903; T. argenteonotata (Simon, 1898); T. heterogyna Chamberlin & Ivie, 1936; T. scoparia (Simon, 1888)and T. velox Simon, 1898. Ten new species from the neotropical region are described and illustrated: T. caxiuana sp.nov., T. onca sp. nov., T. diasi sp. nov., T. xingu sp. nov., T. acreana sp. nov., T. caracarai sp. nov., T. peruana sp.nov., T. hirsutochela sp. nov., T. lisei sp. nov. and T. oriximina sp. nov. The types of Thaumasia senilis are assumed tobe lost and neotypes are designated. The males of Thaumasia heterogyna, T. annulipes, T. abrahami and the female ofThaumasia senilis are described and illustrated for the first time. Thaumasia annecta Bryant, 1948 and T. decemguttataMello-Leitão, 1945 are synonyms of Thaumasia velox. Thaumasia argyrotypa Chamberlin & Ivie, 1936 issynonymized with Thaumasia heterogyna. Thaumasia argentinensis Mello-Leitão, 1941 is transferred to Lycosidaeand Thaumasia benoisti Caporiacco, 1954 is a junior synonym of Architis spinipes (Taczanowski, 1874). The types ofThaumasia argyrura Mello-Leitão, 1943, Thaumasia brunnea Caporiacco, 1947, Thaumasia strandi Caporiacco, 1947and Thaumasia rubrosignata (Mello-Leitão, 1943) are juvenile specimens, and those species are considered as speciesinquirendae. The type of Thaumasia niceforoi Mello-Leitão, 1941 was not found and is this is species is considered a nomen dubium.

Usmiljene sestre sv. Vincencija Pavelskega – usmiljenke – so v Ženski kaznilnici v Begunjah na Gorenjskem delovale v obdobju 1875–1942. Arhitekt Jože Plečnik je z njimi sodeloval med letoma 1935–1940. V tem obdobju so bili postavljeni paviljon Jožamurka s kapelo sv. Jožefa, paviljon Brezjanka ter vogalna stavba pri vrtu. Leta 1940 je bila po Plečnikovih načrtih prenovljena in na novo opremljena kaznilniška kapela. Usmiljenke so ob odhodu oktobra 1942 večino inventarja pustile na svojem mestu, kamnite in marmorne dele pa so nacisti spomeniškovarstveno zaščitili. Aprila 1943 so iz kapele v ljubljanski Marijin dom prenesle premični inventar; po izgonu usmiljenk iz njihovih ustanov leta 1948 je bil preseljen na kor velesovske cerkve, leta 1964 pa na grad Raka. Leta 1974 je bil uporabljen pri pokoncilski prenovi prezbiterija v župnijski cerkvi v Šentjakobu ob Savi, kjer sta v samostanu usmiljenk ohranjena tudi kip sv. Jožefa iz Jožamurke in kip Gospe Zmagovalke iz kaznilniške kapele, ki so jo komunistični oblastniki porušili leta 1948.

Ageniella Banks is the second most diverse genus in the tribe Ageniellini (Pompilidae: Pepsinae) with about 200 valid names. Ageniella is known to be paraphyletic; yet, no revision has been made. Lack of a taxonomic catalogue and of identification keys has further delayed taxonomic studies. Additionally, many of the currently valid names should be treated as synonyms. This present study is the first attempt to organize the species of Ageniella, focusing on the species occurring in Brazil. A total of six subgenera and 40 species of Ageniella occur in Brazil. Of these, 25 species are endemic to Brazil. Sarawak, located on the island of Borneo, is the largest state in the federation of Malaysia which was formed on 16th September 1963. Prior to this,Sarawak was ruled by the Brunei Sultanate (before 1841), the Brooke Dynasty (1841-1941), was under Japanese Occupation (1942-1945), became a British Colony (1946-1963) and presently, Malaysia (since 1963). During the Brooke regime, several forts were built as administrative and defensive stations to keep law and order in the then turbulent days where the local communities, especially those who opposed the Brooke rule, needed to be pacified or punished accordingly. This paper will present the challenging efforts faced by the Sarawak Museum to conserve and establish the Fort Alice as Muzium Warisan Sri Aman (Sri Aman Heritage Museum) and to demonstrate how the public and private (consultants, NGOs and local communities) sectors could collaborate to restore and put to good use a famous historical landmark. The Fort Alice Museum was officially opened by the Chief Minister of Sarawak on 18th April 2015.

Selected type and non-type material belonging to the genus Orthocladius van der Wulp, 1874 (Diptera: Chironomidae) sensu GOETGHEBUER (1940-1950), deposited in the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS), originally comprising specimens dry pinned or stored in isinglass, were mounted on microscope slides and re-examined. Other chironomids present in the RBINS collection belonging to other genera were also examined. Fifty slides were prepared and identified to species, or to generic level when the condition of the specimens did not allow species identification. The following types, representing taxa formerly considered as nomina dubia, were examined and the concerned species are stated here as valid: Georthocladius collarti (Goetghebuer, 1941) comb. nov., Georthocladius scaturiginis (Goetghebuer, 1940) comb. nov., Lapposmittia succinea (Goetghebuer, 1942) comb. nov., Orthocladius (Euorthocladius) tolleti Goetghebuer, 1944 (new subgenus placement), Orthocladius (Orthocladius) timoni Goetghebuer &amp; Timon-David, 1939, Pseudorthocladius hockaiensis (Goetghebuer, 1933). Abstract:
This article classifies the archive of Alexander Gaush in the Simferopol Art Museum funds and studies the texts of individual documents. Alexander Gaush (1873–1947) was an artist and graphic artist, participant of exhibitions of the Academy of Arts and the World of Art artistic movement, one of the founders of the New Society of Artists, curator of the Museum of Old Saint Petersburg, professor of painting, a talented teacher. A number of archive documents were previously studied by the chief curator of museum funds Leonarda Rybnikova, the Crimean art critic Sergey Pushkarev; individual pages of the artist’s biography were illuminated by the employee of the State Museum of Saint Petersburg History Lyudmila Aksenova. The archive documents can be classified into two sections: the first includes letters and handwritten documents authored by Alexander Gaush; the second includes letters addressed to A.Gaush and various documents related to the life and work of the artist and his wife Lyubov Gaush (1873–1943). Among A.Gaush’s correspondents are prominent artists: Eugene Demmeni (1898–1969), Nikolay Root (1870–1960), Alfred Eberling (1872–1951), Igor Grabar (1871–1960). The letters of Igor Grabar, sent in 1946–1947, allow us to see a picture of the artistic life of this time. The text of these letters sheds light on the history of the portrait, which A.Gaush, with the assistance of Igor Grabar, tried to transfer to the Russian Museum through the Leningrad Purchasing Commission. A number of facts suggest that this work of art was the Portrait of Lyubov Gaush created by Alexander Sokolov, which was transferred by A.Gaush for temporary storage to the Simferopol Art Gallery in 1946 and accepted into the main fund in 1949.

Abstract:
This paper focuses on the symbolic role attributed to Cyprian Norwid (1821–1883) in the young poets’ and critics’ circle gathered around the right-wing conspiracy journal Art and Nation (1942–1944) in occupied Warsaw. They used a paraphrase of Norwid’s words, “The artist is the organizer of national imagination”, in order to emphasize their aim of an autonomous and at the same time nationally committed art. However, in many statements by Andrzej Trzebiński (1922–1943) and Wacław Bojarski (1921–1943), the term “nation” appears to be more of a performative gesture than a reference to a consistent, historically evolving reality, as conceived of by Norwid. It was only in the 1944 essay “History and Deed”, never to be printed in the underground, that the circle’s foremost poet Tadeusz Gajcy (1922–1944) critically revisited anti-traditional activism and championed a genuinely “Norwidian”, contemplation-based understanding of creativity.

ABSTRACT Military applications of geology became apparent within the United Kingdom during the nineteenth century, and were developed during the First World War and more extensively during the Second, incidentally by some officers with links to Canada. In the nineteenth century, three Royal Engineer major-generals with geological interests had served there briefly: Joseph Ellison Portlock (1794–1864) helped to stem invasion of Upper Canada by the United States Army in 1814, pioneer geological survey in Ireland from 1826, and promote knowledge of geology amongst British Army officers; Frederick Henry Baddeley (1794–1879) helped to pioneer geological studies in south-east Canada in the 1820s; Richard John Nelson (1803–1877) served in Canada after mapping the geology of Jersey in 1828 and making geological observations in Bermuda. During the First World War, Tannatt William Edgeworth David (1858–1934), a Welsh-born Australian and from 1916 to 1918 the senior of two geologists serving with the British Army on the Western Front, had a Canadian military family link through his mother; and Reginald Walter Brock (1874–1935), Dean of Applied Science at the University of British Columbia and a distinguished Canadian geologist, interrupted his career for infantry service in Europe but was used as a geologist from mid-1918, in Palestine. During the Second World War, the British military geologist Frederick William Shotton (1906–1990) provided geological advice to, amongst other units, Canadian forces who generated thematic maps for parts of northern France that predicted ‘going’ (conditions affecting cross-country vehicle mobility) to follow the D-Day Allied landings in Normandy. In 1943, Thomas Crawford Phemister (1902–1982), Professor and Head of the Department of Geology and Mineralogy at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland but from 1926 to 1932 an associate professor at the University of British Columbia, as an ‘emergency’ Royal Engineers captain founded the Geological Section of the Inter-Service Topographical Department, a unit whose reports and thematic maps provided terrain intelligence for Allied forces in both Europe and the Far East from a base in England, within the University of Oxford. John Leonard Farrington (1906–1982), an undergraduate student from 1923 to 1928 of Brock and/or Phemister at the University of British Columbia, co-founded the Section and soon succeeded Phemister as its head, from 1944 to 1945 in the rank of major. Soon after 1945, military geologists became established in continuity within the British Army.

Translator’s Note The article that follows was first published in Zhongguo yingzao xueshe huikan (Bulletin of the Society for Research in Chinese Architecture), volume 7, number 1, in October 1944, when the journal resumed publishing after a seven-year hiatus. The Society for Research in Chinese Architecture had been founded by Zhu Qiqian (1872–1964) in 1930, and its leading members were Liang Sicheng (1901–72), Liu Dunzhen (1897–1968), and Lin Huiyin (1904–55). The war against Japan that officially broke out in 1937 wreaked havoc on ancient buildings in China, an issue that Liang discusses in the article, and also had a direct and drastic impact on the society, whose members were forced to flee Beijing. They went to southwestern inland China, settling first in Kunming, Yunnan province, in 1938, and then in the small village of Li Zhuang, Sichuan province, in the winter of 1940. Amid the severe material and financial hardships caused by the war, the society also had to endure the departure of its most important members and contributors to its research, including Liu Dunzhen in 1943. The handful of remaining scholars decided to resume publication of the bulletin in 1944, probably writing their journal articles by hand and reproducing the pages lithographically for distribution. The article followed a foreword and acknowledgment in the 1944 issue of the journal. During the society’s existence the journal was to publish only one more issue, in October 1945. Although Liang Sicheng was not named as the author of the article (which was signed only “the editor”) it is usually attributed, reasonably, to Liang Sicheng himself.1

abstract: Despite the growing interest in the economic backgrounds of mps in Western Europe, the evolution of working-class numerical representation before 1945 has not been systematically studied. Using data from England and Wales (1832–1944), Germany (1871–1930), and Norway (1906–1936), the authors show both that working-class mps were elected when barriers were lowered and that almost all working-class parliamentarians were affiliated with socialist parties. The authors further probe the conditions that determined the electoral success of workers using data about all candidates, constituencies’ occupational profile, and unionization in Norway between 1906 and 1936. They find that socialist parties nominated workers either in relatively uncompetitive elections in which unionization was high or in competitive races in which the party’s victory was possible but not guaranteed. Using information about mps in Germany and England and Wales, the authors find similar patterns. The article discusses the implications for research about democratization, the rise of social democracy, and the numerical representation of workers.

Plagiohammus Dillon &amp; Dillon, 1941 is considered a junior synonym of Hammatoderus Gemminger &amp; Harold, 1873. Four new species are described: Hammatoderus juliae, from Colombia; H. migueli and H. antonkozlovi, from Ecuador; and H. lingafelteri, from Mexico. Hammoderus spinipennis Thomson, 1860, and Hammoderus quadriplagiatus Breuning, 1943 are placed as junior synonyms of Hammoderus thoracicus White, 1858 (= Hammatoderus thoracicus). Consequently, Hammatoderus jacobyi Nonfried, 1894, synonym of H. spinipennis, is also a junior synonym of H. thoracicus. The synonymy between Hammoderus strandi Breuning, 1943 and Plagiohammus olivescens Dillon &amp; Dillon, 1941 is formally established. Plagiohammus mexicanus Breuning, 1950 is provisionally transferred to Monochamus Dejean, 1821, and the type locality is questioned. Abstract:
A catalogue of all named Nepticulidae and Opostegidae is presented, including fossil species. The catalogue is simultaneously published online in the scratchpad http://nepticuloidea.info/ and in Catalogue of Life (http://www.catalogueoflife.org/col/details/database/id/172). We provide a historical overview of taxonomic research on Nepticuloidea and a brief ‘state of the art’. A DNA barcode dataset with 3205 barcodes is made public at the same time, providing DNA barcodes of ca. 779 species, of which 2563 are identified as belonging to 444 validly published species. We recognise 862 extant and 18 fossil species of Nepticulidae in 22 extant genera and the fossil form genus Stigmellites. We count 192 valid Opostegidae species in 7 genera, without fossils. We also list seven dubious Nepticulidae names that cannot be placed due to absent type material and poor descriptions, 18 unavailable names in Nepticulidae that cannot be placed and we also list the 33 names (including four fossils) that once were placed as Nepticulidae or Opostegidae but are now excluded. All synonyms and previous combinations are listed. The generic classification follows the Molecular phylogeny that is published almost simultaneously. Subfamilies and tribes are not recognised, Trifurculinae Scoble, 1983 is synonymised with Nepticulidae Stainton, 1854 and Opostegoidinae Kozlov, 1987 is synonymised with Opostegidae Meyrick, 1893. The status of Casanovula Hoare, 2013, Etainia Beirne, 1945, Fomoria Beirne, 1945, Glaucolepis Braun, 1917, Menurella Hoare, 2013, Muhabbetana Koçak &amp; Kemal, 2007 and Zimmermannia Hering, 1940 is changed from subgenus to full genus, whereas two genera are considered synonyms again: Manoneura Davis, 1979, a synonym of Enteucha Meyrick, 1915 and Levarchama Beirne, 1945, a synonym of Trifurcula Zeller, 1848. Abstract:
Tree-ring width chronologies of three species from a 330-year-old subalpine forest were used to reconstruct outbreaks of 2 year cycle spruce budworm (Choristoneura biennis Freeman). The growth of host species, Engelmann spruce (Picea engelmannii Parry ex Engelm.) and subalpine fir (Abies lasiocarpa (Hook.) Nutt.), was compared with that of the nonhost, lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta Dougl. ex Loud.) with and without the removal of the effects of climate on growth. Seven periods, 1989–1991, 1943–1957, 1911–1927, 1869–1875, 1839–1861, 1823–1829, 1785–1801, were identified in which the growth of both host species was reduced relative to the non-host; this includes the single known outbreak from 1944 to 1956. Spectral analysis indicated a periodicity for growth reduction of the host relative to non-host species of ca. 45 years for both spruce and fir. For three periods, the known outbreak in the 1940–1950s, and two inferred outbreaks in the 1910–1920s and 1840–1850s, we calculated the four measures of radial growth first proposed by Brubaker and Greene (L.B. Brubaker and S.K. Greene. 1979. Can. J. For. Res. 9: 95–105): the maximum rate of growth loss, 1-year and 5-year losses, and the rate and time to recovery. Growth losses were greater for fir than for spruce during all three periods. During the 1940–1950s, growth losses were severe, but losses were less in the 1910–1920s. The impact of C. biennis has varied among outbreak periods but, overall, has made a pronounced contribution to present stand conditions. Our work suggests that budworms have been a frequent agent of disturbance with major effects on forest dynamics in southern British Columbia, especially in spruce–fir forests when long periods occur between fires.

Abstract:
The spider genus Porrhomma has been revised; it now includes 24 species. Two new species are described: Porrhomma altaica new species from the Altai Mountains, and Porrhomma nekolai new species from eastern Asia and North America. Bathyphantes charpentieri Lebert, 1877 was removed from synonymy with Porrhomma microphthalmum (O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1871). The following new synonymies are proposed: Bathyphantes charpentieri Lebert, 1877 is a junior synonym of Porrhomma convexum (Westring, 1851) new synonymy; Porrhomma gertschi Hackman, 1954 is a junior synonym of Porrhomma terrestre (Emerton, 1882) new synonymy; Porrhomma myops Simon, 1884 is a junior synonym of Porrhomma rosenhaueri (L. Koch, 1872) new synonymy; Porrhomma ocella Chamberlin &amp; Ivie, 1943 is a junior synonym of Porrhomma convexum (Westring, 1851) new synonymy; Porrhomma omissum Miller, 1971 is a junior synonym of Porrhomma egeria Simon, 1884 new synonymy; Porrhomma pallidum affinis Miller &amp; Kratochvíl, 1940 is a junior synonym of Porrhomma pallidum Jackson, 1913 new synonymy; Porrhomma sodonta (Chamberlin, 1949) is a junior synonym of Porrhomma convexum (Westring, 1851) new synonymy. The synonymy of Porrhomma macrochelis (Emerton, 1917) with Macrargus multesimus (O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1875) is supported. Porrhomma subterraneum Simon, 1884 is considered a nomen dubium, because it was described according to a juvenile specimen. To date, Porrhomma indecorum Simon, 1910 and Porrhomma marphaense Wunderlich, 1983 are only known from findings of females; they are considered to be species inquirenda, and their names are declared nomina dubia. Keys are provided for males and females. Vulvae are drawn in dorsal, ventral and caudal views to understand their spatial structure.

Abstract:
The genera Trichopetalum Harger, 1872, Zygonopus Ryder, 1881 and Scoterpes Cope, 1872 are revised. Illustrations are provided for all but one species, and distributions are mapped. The first known authentic chordeumatidan spermatophores are described for Trichopetalum dux (Chamberlin), 1940. The production of a sticky secretion from the bases of the segmental setae, possibly defensive in function, is also described. The new subfamily Mexiterpetinae is established for the genus Mexiterpes Causey, 1963; the remaining genera of Trichopetalidae are grouped in subfamily Trichopetalinae Verhoeff, 1914 (tribe Scoterpetini Causey, 1969, n. syn.). Trichopetalum consists of seven species, all surface-dwelling or troglophilic: lunatum Harger, 1872, uncum Cook &amp; Collins, 1895, dux (Chamberlin), 1940, montis Chamberlin, 1951, stannardi (Causey), 1951, dickbrucei n. sp. and jerryblatti n. sp. Zygonopus is resurrected from synonymy with Trichopetalum; it contains four troglobiotic species: whitei Ryder, 1881 (for which a neotype specimen is designated), krekeleri Causey, 1960, packardi Causey, 1960 and weyeriensis Causey, 1960. Scoterpes likewise is made up entirely of troglobiotic species, including copei (Packard), 1881, austrinus Loomis, 1943, nudus Chamberlin, 1946, ventus Shear, 1972, syntheticus (Shear), 1972, sollmani Lewis, 2000, and the following new species: alabama, hesperus, jackdanieli, musicarustica, stewartpecki, tombarri, tricorner and willreevesi. It is likely that at least S. copei and S. ventus are “superspecies,” consisting of numerous genetically isolated populations, which await study with molecular and/or morphometric methods.

This catalogue includes all valid family-group (8 subfamilies, 52 tribes, 14 subtribes), genus-group (349 genera, 86 subgenera), and species-group names (2825 species, 215 subspecies) of darkling beetles (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) known to occur in North America<sup>1</sup> and their available synonyms. Data on extant, subfossil and fossil taxa are given. For each name the author and year and page number of the description are provided, with additional information (e.g., type species for genus-group names, author of synonymies for invalid taxa) depending on the taxon rank. Several new nomenclatural acts are included. One new genus, Lepidocnemeplatia Bousquet and Bouchard, is described. Spelaebiosis Bousquet and Bouchard [for Ardoinia Özdikmen, 2004], Blapstinus marcuzzii Aalbu [for Blapstinus kulzeri Marcuzzi, 1977], and Hymenorus campbelli Bouchard [for Hymenorus oculatus Doyen and Poinar, 1994] are proposed as new replacement names. Supporting evidence is provided for the conservation of usage of Tarpela micans (Fabricius, 1798) nomen protectum over Tarpela vittata (Olivier, 1793) nomen oblitum. ZusammenfassungDer aus St. Ives in Cornwall stammende Bibliothekar Percy Lane Oliver (1878 – 1944) begründete im Oktober 1921 in London den ersten freiwilligen Blutspenderdienst, der 1926 vom britischen Roten Kreuz übernommen und 1946 als Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) verstaatlicht wurde. Die Spender erhielten keine Bezahlung, ihre Blutspende sollte als Geschenk an die Allgemeinheit verstanden werden. Der vom methodistischen Gedankengut geprägte Oliver war 1893 nicht zum Medizinstudium zugelassen worden, jedoch wurde er durch seine philanthropische Gesinnung und sein Organisationstalent zu einem Pionier der Transfusionsmedizin. Nach seinem Tod im Jahr 1944 wurde er zunächst von der Medizingeschichte weitgehend vergessen, doch erinnern der Oliver Memorial Fund und der Percy Lane Oliver Memorial Award auch heute noch an sein Wirken.

Abstract:
Nishida Kitaro (1870-1945) was one of the introducers of phenomenology in Japan. However, for him, there were points of disagreement with the statements of philosophy. In his encounter with the writings of Heidegger, the author also presents points to itself unacceptable or, at least, unsatisfied. In this work, we chose some critical views of the philosophical stance of Heidegger, between 1925 and 1940. Introduction. The 2023 was the anniversary year for anthropology, when 180 years were celebrated since the birth of D.N. Anuchin (1843–1923) and 140 years since the founding of the Museum of Anthropology of Moscow University. The jubilee year is the best time tо remember those, who without sparing their strength and health, contributed to the development of education in Russia. In the article, for the first time in literature, an attempt was made to recreate images of people who took the most active part in the formation of the ethnographic collection of the Museum of Anthropology of Moscow University. Materials and methods. The article is based on the materials of the Museum's Book of Acquisitions, information from collection inventories and the scientific archive of the Research Institute and the Museum of Anthropology, as well as data from literature and other open sources. The chronological method was used in the work. Results and discussion. The article presents information on 17 collectors, whose names are arranged in chronological order. The article presents data on the following collectors and donors: anthropologist and public figure N.L. Gondatti (1861–1946); publicist, archaeologist, and ethnographer N.M. Yadrintsev (1842–1894); Ambassador Extraordinary to Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay A.S. Ionin (1837–1900); military man and diplomat V.F. More than 4700 nominal family-group names (including names for fossils and ichnotaxa) are nomenclaturally available in the order Coleoptera. Since each family-group name is based on the concept of its type genus, we argue that the stability of names used for the classification of beetles depends on accurate nomenclatural data for each type genus. Following a review of taxonomic literature, with a focus on works that potentially contain type species designations, we provide a synthesis of nomenclatural data associated with the type genus of each nomenclaturally available family-group name in Coleoptera. For each type genus the author(s), year of publication, and page number are given as well as its current status (i.e., whether treated as valid or not) and current classification. Information about the type species of each type genus and the type species fixation (i.e., fixed originally or subsequently, and if subsequently, by whom) is also given. The original spelling of the family-group name that is based on each type genus is included, with its author(s), year, and stem. We append a list of nomenclaturally available family-group names presented in a classification scheme. Because of the importance of the Principle of Priority in zoological nomenclature, we provide information on the date of publication of the references cited in this work, when known. Several nomenclatural issues emerged during the course of this work. We therefore appeal to the community of coleopterists to submit applications to the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (henceforth “Commission”) in order to permanently resolve some of the problems outlined here. Abstract:
The Tachinidae of the Afrotropical Region are catalogued and seven genera and eight species are newly described. There are 237 genera and 1126 species recognized, of which 101 genera and 1043 species are endemic to the region. The catalogue is based on examination of the primary literature comprising about 525 references as well as numerous name-bearing types and other specimens housed in collections. Taxa are arranged hierarchically and alphabetically under the categories of subfamily, tribe, genus, subgenus (where recognized), species, and rarely subspecies. Nomenclatural information is provided for all genus-group and species-group names, including lists of synonyms (mostly restricted to Afrotropical taxa) and name-bearing type data. Species distributions are recorded by country within the Afrotropical Region and by larger geographical divisions outside the region. Additional information is given in the form of notes, numbering about 300 in the catalogue section. Seven genera and eight species are described as new: Afrophylax Cerretti &amp; O'Hara with type species Sturmia aureiventris Villeneuve, 1910, gen. n. Three genera previously recorded from the Afrotropical Region are no longer recognized from the region: Calozenillia Townsend, 1927 (Palaearctic, Oriental and Australasian regions); Eurysthaea Robineau-Desvoidy, 1863 (Palaearctic, Oriental and Australasian regions); and Trixa Meigen, 1824 (Palaearctic and Oriental regions). Two species are newly recorded from the Afrotropical Region: Amnonia carmelitana Kugler, 1971 (Ethiopia, Kenya); and Simoma grahami Aldrich, 1926 (Namibia). Abstract:
At the turn of the 19th /20th century, in an era of transition (fin de siècle), both social and economic processes, as well as aspects of education and spiritual culture, change. At the turn of the 19th/20th century, several authors focused on the solution of religious issues, Jānis Poruks (1871–1924) wrote the essay “Nākotnes Reliģija” (Religion of Future) (1894), Andrievs Niedra (1871–1942) published a series of articles in the magazine “Austrums” (1905), religious issues have been addressed in several writers’ prose. Niedra believes that he has found the key to the religious problem of the transition era. Religious ideals are the signposts that mark the course of human development, and religion is the promulgator of people’s life assignments. Art, religion, and virtue are transformed similarly; this transformation is determined by the solitary or collective individual’s heredity and environment. The religious views of the characters of Niedra’s prose (the stories “The Feeble Soul” (Nespēcīgā Dvēsele), “The Fourth Fellow” (Ceturtais Biedrs), “Without One’s Past” (Bez paša pagātnes), the novel “In the Smokes of a Clearing” (Līduma dūmos), etc.) are based on personalism as a direction of philosophy in the second half of the 19th century, Gustav Teichmüller (1850–1937), Alexey Kozlov (1831–1901), Lev Lopatin (1855–1920), Jēkabs Osis (1860–1919), Haralds Biezais (1909–1995), Voldemārs Maldonis (1870–1941), Kārlis Kundziņš (1850–1937), Alberts Freijs (1903– 1968). The aim of the article is to reveal the religious views of the characters of Niedra’s prose and their change at the turn of the 19th/20th century. The descriptive, comparative, psychoanalytical, and anthropological methods are used.

In the paper results of the investigation of the spider fauna in Agstafa district conducted in 2012 -2014 years are provided. During the period of the investigation 24 species of spiders belonging to 11 families were found. Eight genera (Arctosa C.L.Koch, 1847; Parasteatoda Archer, 1946; Pachygnatha Sundevall, 1823; Enoplognatha Pavesi, 1880; Crustulina Menge, 1868; Asagena Sundevall, 1833; Heriaeus Simon, 1875; Tmarus Simon, 1875) and 13 species [Neriene clathrata (Sundevall, 1830); Philodromus dispar (Walckenaer, 1826); Thanatus imbecillus L. Koch, 1878; Pholcus phalangioides (Fuesslin, 1775; Arctosa tbilisiensis Mcheidze, 1946; Pardosa agrestis (Westring, 1861); Crustulina sticta (O. P.-Cambridge, 1861); Pachygnatha degeeri Sundevall, 1830; Parasteatoda lunata (Clerck, 1757); Enoplognatha quadripunctata (Simon, 1884 ); Asagena phalerata (Panzer, 1801); Heriaeus sp.; Tmarus horvathi Kulczynski, 1895] are new records for the fauna of the Ganja-Gazakh zone and two species (Clubiona frutetorum, L.Koch, 1867; Monaeses israeliensis Levy, 1973) for the whole Caucasus.
