Abstract:
The article discusses the history of publication of two works by Alexander Kuprin (1870–1938) and Ivan Shmelev (1873–1950) in “Russkaya Gazeta” (“Russian newspaper”), which is an emigrant newspaper issued in Paris in 1923–1925. Their publication remained unnoticed by modern researchers. The article examines Kuprin’s participation in this periodical, as well as the historical context of Kuprin’s article “Diaries and Letters” (1923) published in this newspaper at the beginning of 1924, and dedicated to the publication of the “Diary of Emperor Nicholas II”. In particular, the author discusses the history of the “Diary”’s publication in Berlin in 1923 and the peculiarities of the reaction to its appearance among the Russian emigration. He also discusses the history of the publication of I.S. Shmelev’s political fairy tale “Preobrazhenets” (1919–1923–1927). Particular attention is paid to the edition of this tale, which was published together with Kuprin’s article in the same issue of “Russkaya Gazeta” (January 7, 1924). For the first time, the article presents the full text of Kuprin’s article, as well as the text of Shmelev’s fairy tale in its 1923 edition, in comparison with its final version published in 1927.

Wang, Liu, Wang, Cao, and Li. "Study on Sulfur Transfer Behavior during Refining of Rejected Electrolytic Manganese Metal." Metals 9, no. 7 (July 4, 2019): 751. http://dx.doi.org/10.3390/met9070751.

Full text
Abstract:
A slag treatment method was proposed to recycle rejected electrolytic manganese metal. To improve the sulfur removal ratio, computational fluid dynamics and experimental studies of the sulfur transfer behavior during the refining process were carried out. Experiments of slag-metal reaction for desulfurization were carried out using an electric resistance furnace at temperatures ranging from 1773 K to 1923 K. A transient three-dimensional coupled numerical model was established to represent the three-phase flow, heat and mass transfer in the experiment. The desulfurization rate was described by a metallurgical kinetics module, which was related to the slag composition, the interfacial tension coefficient, the flow and the temperature of the melt. The predicted sulfur content agreed reasonably well with the measured data. The temperature of the fluids at the outer side of the crucible was higher than that at the center, resulting in a larger sulfur partition ratio and a more vigorous flow. The sulfur transfer rate was higher at the outer edge of the molten slag–molten manganese interface. The sulfur removal ratio increased from 51.4% to 85.1% with a change in heating temperature from 1773 K to 1873 K, and slightly dropped to 83.3% when the heating temperature increased to 1923 K. The heating temperature of 1873 K is the optimal choice for recycling in the present work.

Abstract:
In order to investigate the Chinese representatives from two genera of the tribe Oodini LaFerté-Sénectère, 1851, twenty-three Palaearctic and Oriental species of the genera Lachnocrepis LeConte, 1853 and Oodes Bonelli, 1810 are taxonomically reviewed. Because the species in question share a high degree of morphological similarity they are grouped in the “Oodes generic group”. The character-analysis showed that seven species belong to Oodes, including five species to Oodes s.str. and two species to Lachnocrepis (downgraded to subgenus). The remaining sixteen species are classified in three genera: ten species in Pseudoodes gen. n. (type species: Oodes cribristernis Bates, 1892), two species in Sundaoodes gen. n. (type species: Sundaoodes hainanensis sp. n.), and four species in Nothoodes gen. n. (type species: Oodes angustatus Lorenz, 2005). The taxa of Oodes s.str. and Pseudoodes gen. n. are arranged in two and four species groups, respectively. Eleven species from three genera, including six new to science, are found in China: Oodes (Oodes) echigonus Habu & Baba, 1960, Oodes (Lachnocrepis) desertus Motschulsky, 1858, Oodes (Lachnocrepis) japonicus (Bates, 1873), Pseudoodes cribristernis (Bates, 1892) (first record for China), Pseudoodes rambouseki (Jedlička, 1931), Pseudoodes ampliusculus, sp. n. (type locality: Mingfenggu Valley, Jiangfengling Mountains, Hainan), Pseudoodes emeishanicus, sp. n. (type locality: Xixinsuo Temple, Emei Shan, Leshan City, Sichuan), Pseudoodes hunanensis, sp. n. (type locality: Xiaozhuangping, Tianping Shan, Sangzhi County, Hunan), Pseudoodes leigongshanicus, sp. n. (type locality: Xijiang Town, Leigong Shan, Leishan County, Guizhou), Pseudoodes tianlinensis, sp. n. (type locality: Cenwanglao Shan, Tianlin County, Guangxi), and Sundaoodes hainanensis, sp. n. (type locality: Nada Town, Danzhou City, Hainan). Two further new species, Sundaoodes kalimantanensis, sp. n. (type locality: Bukit Liang Mount, West Kalimantan Province, Indonesia) and Nothoodes bharat, sp. n. (type locality: Dwarakapuram Village, Naidupet Mandal, Nellore District, Andhra Pradesh, India), are also described. The following new synonymies are proposed: Oodes parallelus Motschulsky, 1858, syn. n. of Oodes helopioides (Fabricius, 1792); Oodes parallelogrammus Motschulsky, 1858, syn. n. of Oodes helopioides (Fabricius, 1792); Oodes prolixus Bates, 1873, syn. n. of Oodes desertus Motschulsky, 1858; Simous viridissimus Louwerens, 1951, syn. n. of Pseudoodes coelestinus (Chaudoir, 1882). The synonymy of Oodes hahni Reitter, 1908 with Oodes desertus Motschulsky, 1858 is confirmed. Also, the following new combinations are introduced: Oodes japonicus (Bates, 1873), comb. n. of Lachnocrepis japonica Bates, 1873; Pseudoodes vicarius (Bates, 1873), comb. n. of Oödes vicarius Bates, 1873; Pseudoodes coelestinus (Chaudoir, 1882), comb. n. of Oodes coelestinus Chaudoir, 1882; Pseudoodes subcoriaceus (Chaudoir, 1882), comb. n. of Oodes subcoriaceus Chaudoir, 1882; Pseudoodes cribristernis (Bates, 1892), comb. n. of Oodes cribristernis Bates, 1892; Pseudoodes rambouseki (Jedlička, 1931), comb. n. of Holosoma rambouseki Jedlička, 1931; Nothoodes taprobanae (Andrewes, 1923), comb. n. of Oodes taprobanae Andrewes, 1923; Nothoodes longus (Andrewes, 1940), comb. n. of Oodes longus Andrewes, 1940; Nothoodes angustatus (Lorenz, 1998), comb. n. of Oodes angustatus Lorenz, 1998. Lectotypes are designated for Oodes parallelus Motschulsky, 1858, Oodes parallelogrammus Motschulsky, 1858, Oodes desertus Motschulsky, 1858, Oodes cribristernis Bates, 1892, Oodes hahni Reitter, 1908, Oodes thessalonicensis Schatzmayr, 1909, Oodes helopioides var. fiorii Porta, 1923, and Holosoma rambouseki Jedlička, 1931. A key to the species, diagnoses, descriptions, notes on type specimens, relationships, distribution, bionomics when available, and figures of body, genitalia and other characters useful for taxonomy are provided. Numerous new records, including first country records for Romania, Israel, Nepal, China, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Brunei, and Indonesia, are registered.

Abstract:
Myrioneuron R. Brown ex J. D. Hooker in Bentham & Hooker (1873: 69) comprises about eight species of the family Rubiaceae and it is distributed in East Himalaya to South China (Govaerts et al. 2011). Although it was occasionally treated as a synonym of Mycetia Reinwardt (1825: 9) (Bakhuizen 1975) or Keenania J. D. Hooker (1880: 101) (Van Steenis 1987, Robbrecht 1988), most botanists accepted it as a distinct genus (Kurz 1877, Hooker 1880, Schumann 1891, Pitard 1923, Merrill 1942, Bremekamp 1952, Deb 1996, Lo 1999, Wright 1999, Kress et al. 2003; Chen & Taylor 2011, Govaerts et al. 2011). Most recently, however, a molecular phylogenetic study revealed that Myrioneuron and Mycetia are non-monophyletic and intermixed, and therefore both taxa were combined to represent a monophyletic genus and Mycetia was accepted as its generic name (Ginter et al. 2015). In the study, they published nine new combinations, including Mycetia angustifolia (J. D. Hooker 1880: 97) Razafim. & B. Bremer in Ginter et al. (2015: 293). However, this name is illegitimate because it is a later homonym of Mycetia angustifolia Ridley (1923: 68), in accordance with Article 53.1 of the ICN (McNeil et al. 2012).

Abstract:
1873 – 1933 – 1973» («Nauczyciel zdrowia. Życie i dzieło doktora Stanisława Kopczyńskiego. 1873 ‒ 1933 – 1973»; 1972), «Мета фізичного і здоров’язбережувального навчання та виховання» («Cele kształcenia i wychowania fizycznego oraz zdrowotnego»; 1975), «Педагогіка здоров’я» («Pedagоgika zdrowia»; 1980).

Abstract:
O estudioso compilou 135 palavras, expressões, frases feitas e imagens comparativas provenientes do vocabulário corrente do cotidiano associadas à alimentação. Linguagem. Folclore.ABSTRACTTo what extent does a people’s food system permeate the words we use in everyday language? This communication aims to analyse the cultural meanings attributed to foods that express the relationship between body and behaviour having as a starting point the book “Folclore da Alimentação” – “Folklore of food”, by Cascudo (1898-1986), published in the Revista Brasileira do Folclore – Brazilian Magazine of Folklore (1963). The scholar compiled 135 words, idioms, phrases, and comparative images from the current everyday vocabulary associated with eating at that time. It is necessary to clarify that the same production was inserted in the book “História da Alimentação no Brasil” – “History of Food in Brazil” (1983). The folklorist employed the historical, ethnographic, bibliographical and documentary researching methods, for example, O Diário de Pernambuco, founded in 1825, the work Auto Da Ave-Maria - Auto dos Cantarinhos: with a biographical article by Antônio Prestes (1530) and dialogues with other folklorists, such as Francisco Manuel de Melo (1608-1666), João Loureiro (1717-1791), Hermann Urtel (1873-1926), Francisco Augusto Pereira da Costa (1851-1923), Valdomiro Silveira (1873-1941), Ataliba Amaral Leite Penteado (1875-1929), Hidelgardes Cantolino Vianna (1919-2006), Édison de Souza Carneiro (1912-1972) and Cornélio Pires (1884-1958). The book is a rich source of research and reflection on food culture that reveals the African, Portuguese, Asian, Arab and French contributions, besides the contributions made by ancient civilizations. Along and between the lines of the book, the historian reveals the richness of both language and food culture. In order to analyse the aforementioned communicative universe, the study of the cultural history of food was carried out and, methodologically, a documentary research of the book “Folclore da Alimentação” was conducted. Keywords: Food. Language. Folklore.

It is currently composed of 194 species and 13 subspecies in eight genera: Amurodytes Fery & Petrov, 2013, Boreonectes Angus, 2010, Deronectes Sharp, 1882, Nebrioporus Régimbart, 1906, Oreodytes Seidlitz, 1887, Scarodytes Gozis, 1914, Stictotarsus Zimmermann, 1919, and Trichonectes Guignot, 1941. We present a morphological and a molecular phylogeny of the species of the subtribe, and a revision of their taxonomy to accommodate our phylogenetic results. The morphological phylogeny is based on the study of 54 characters of the adults of 189 species and 2 subspecies, of which 114 species and the 2 subspecies were coded in the morphological matrix. For the molecular phylogeny we investigated 115 species and 11 subspecies, using a combination of fragments of four mitochondrial (COI, 16S rRNA, tRNA-Leu and NAD1) and two nuclear genes (18S rRNA and H3), analysed with maximum likelihood and Bayesian methods. For both datasets we included the type species of all genus-group taxa. The morphological, molecular and combined phylogenies mostly agree with the current classification of the group, but in some cases our results are in contradiction with established genera. Most remarkable are the polyphyly of Stictotarsus and Nebrioporus, the low support for the monophyly and internal phylogeny of Oreodytes, and the low support for the monophyly of Deronectina with molecular data. Thus, we introduce some taxonomic changes in the current classification to accommodate the generic concepts to our phylogenetic results. Nine new genera are established: Clarkhydrus n. gen. (type species Hydroporus roffii Clark, 1862), Hornectes n. gen. (type species Hydroporus quadrimaculatus Horn, 1883), Iberonectes n. gen. (type species Deronectes bertrandi Legros, 1956), Larsonectes n. gen. (type species Potamonectes minipi Larson, 1991), Leconectes n. gen. (type species Hydroporus striatellus LeConte, 1852), Mystonectes n. gen. (type species Deronectes neomexicanus Zimmerman & Smith, 1975), Nectoboreus n. gen. (type species Hydroporus aequinoctialis Clark, 1862), Nectomimus n. gen. (type species Oreodytes okulovi Lafer, 1988), and Zaitzevhydrus n. gen. (type species Hydroporus formaster Zaitzev, 1908). Three genera are reinstated as valid: Deuteronectes Guignot, 1945 (stat. rest.) (type species Hydroporus picturatus Horn, 1883), Nectoporus Guignot, 1950 (stat. rest.) (type species Hydroporus abbreviatus Fall, 1923), and Neonectes J. Balfour-Browne, 1940 (stat. rest.) (type species Hydroporus natrix Sharp, 1884). Thirty-six new combinations for species and subspecies thus far treated in the genera Boreonectes, Nebrioporus, Oreodytes and Stictotarsus result from the new classification: Clarkhydrus corvinus (Sharp, 1887) n. comb., C. decemsignatus (Clark, 1862) n. comb., C. deceptus (Fall, 1932) n. comb., C. eximius (Motschulsky, 1859) n. comb., C. falli (Nilsson, 2001) n. comb., C. interjectus (Sharp, 1882) n. comb., C. minax (Zimmerman, 1982) n. comb., C. opaculus (Sharp, 1882) n. comb., C. roffii (Clark, 1862) n. comb., C. spectabilis (Zimmerman, 1982) n. comb., Deuteronectes angustior (Hatch, 1928) n. comb., Hornectes quadrimaculatus (Horn, 1883) n. comb., Iberonectes bertrandi (Legros, 1956) n. comb., Larsonectes minipi (Larson, 1991) n. comb., Leconectes striatellus (LeConte, 1852) n. comb., Mystonectes coelamboides (Fall, 1923) n. comb., M. grammicus (Sharp, 1887) n. comb., M. neomexicanus (Zimmerman & Smith, 1975) n. comb., M. panaminti (Fall, 1923) n. comb., M. titulus (Leech, 1945) n. comb., Nectoboreus aequinoctialis (Clark, 1862) n. comb., N. dolerosus (Leech, 1945) n. comb., N. funereus (Crotch, 1873) n. comb., Nectomimus okulovi (Lafer, 1988) n. comb., Nectoporus angelinii (Fery, 2015) n. comb., N. congruus (LeConte, 1878) n. comb., N. crassulus (Fall, 1923) n. comb., N. obesus obesus (LeConte, 1866) n. comb., N. obesus cordillerensis (Larson, 1990) n. comb., N. rhyacophilus (Zimmerman, 1985) n. comb., N. sanmarkii sanmarkii (C.R. Abstract:

Abstract:
Hydroclimatic conditions and related water resources change in the Tibetan Plateau is one of the main concerns for future sustainable development in China. This study presents a 254-year precipitation reconstruction from August of the previous year to June of the current year for the northeastern Tibetan Plateau based on tree-ring width data of tree-ring cores of Picea crassifolia from three sampling sites. The precipitation reconstruction explained 51.4% of the variance in instrumental precipitation during the calibration period 1958–2013. Dry periods with precipitation below the 254-year average value occurred during 1848–1865, 1873–1887, 1898–1923, and 1989–2003, and wet periods (precipitation above the mean) occurred during 1769–1785, 1798–1833, 1924–1938, 1957–1968, and 2004–2013. Spatial correlation analyses with the precipitation gridded dataset showed that our reconstruction contains some strong regional-scale precipitation signals for the upper Yellow River Basin. Our precipitation reconstruction also agreed in general with other dendroclimatic precipitation reconstructions from surrounding regions. In addition, reconstructed precipitation changes were consistent with the streamflow variation of the Yellow River.

Abstract:
Abstract The present article aims at making again a connection with central intuitions of the early Liturgical Movement in francophone Belgium at the outset of the 20th century. The reason for doing that is that it is still quite uncommon for professional theologians to consider liturgy as a real source for theologizing. The major focus of the article is the Body of Christ, a profound image, symbol, doctrine and reality, the impact and potential of which were rediscovered then in the circle of Benedictine monasteries. It was interpreted both in an ecclesial and sacramental way and it arguably constituted the basis for many other theological renewals prompted by subsequent representatives of the Liturgical Movement. Relying on a careful analysis of key texts by Dom Columba Marmion (1858-1923), Dom Lambert Beauduin (1873-1960) and Dom Maurice Festugière (1870-1950), I argue that their dealings with ‘liturgy intuitions’ ‐ which are not equal to ‘liturgical intuitions’ ‐ should be retrieved not only for scholarly purposes but, even more so, for a deepened understanding of the intrinsic and organic connections between Church, liturgy, Christ and life.

Abstract:
This study documents the parasite assemblage of Liasis fuscus Peters, 1873 from the Adelaide River flood plain, Northern Territory, Australia. In total, nine species of helminth (comprising three cestodes and six nematodes), one pentastome and one protozoan were found in 180 water pythons, with the Nematoda being the dominant and most diverse group, and a cestode, Bothridium ornatum Maplestone & Southwell, 1923, the most prevalent species. In spite of the hosts being present in high numbers the helminth assemblage was depauperate, characterised by low prevalence, intensity, frequency and abundance of species, with neither season nor sex of host affecting abundance. There were, however, significant differences between ages of hosts, juveniles having fewer parasites, and seasonal diversity, with the wet season of 2004 and the dry of 2005 the most similar. Of the Australian python species analysed Morelia spilota (Lacépède, 1804) had the highest species richness. The lower species richness found in L. fuscus was possibly due to its unusual biology. Biogeographic relationships of the parasite fauna of L. fuscus are diverse, connections with Africa, Asia, and South America being noted.

Abstract:
The species considered in the genus Rhizopulvinaria were revised on the base of morphological and ecological data. Significant intraspecific morphological variability was shown for Rh. artemisiae s. l. The mode of life and reproductive biology of this species is briefly discussed. The majority of nominal species of Rhizopulvinaria described by different authors are considered to be morphological varieties of a single species Rh. artemisiae Signoret, 1873. Thus, the following species are placed in the synonymy of Rh. artemisiae: Rh. retamae (Hall, 1923), Rh. halli Borchsenius, 1957, Rh. turkestanica (Arkhangelskaya, 1931), Rh. grassei (Balachowsky, 1936), Rh. dianthi (Bodenheimer, 1943), Rh. nevesi (Gómez-Menor Ortega, 1946), Rh. armeniaca Borchsenius, 1952, Rh. grandicula Borchsenius, 1952, Rh. hissarica Borchsenius, 1952, Rh. megriensis Borchsenius, 1952, Rh. minima Borchsenius, Rh. pyrethri Borchsenius, 1952, Rh. spinifera Borchsenius, 1952, Rh. transcaspica Borchsenius, 1952, Rh. turkmenica Borchsenius, 1952, Rh. variabilis Borchsenius, 1952, Rh. virgulata Borchsenius, 1952, Rh. viridis Borchsenius, 1952, Rh. polispina Matesova, 1960, Rh. quadrispina Matesova, 1960, Rh. solitudina Matesova, 1960, Rh. zaisanica Matesova, 1960, Rh. arenaria Canard, 1967, Rh. gracilis Canard, 1967, Rh. maritima Canard, 1967, Rh. saxatilis Canard, 1967, Rh. rhizophila Bazarov, 1963, Rh. saxosa Shmelev, 1971, Rh. zygophylli Bazarov & Shmelev, 1975, Rh. ucrainica Tereznikova, 1981.

Abstract:
<p>This article describes the life and medical activities of Jadwiga Olszewska (1855–1932) in Serbia from 1895–1899, Austro- Hungarian (AH)-occupied and annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina (BH) from 1899–1918, and the newly founded Kingdom of Yugoslavia, from 1919–1932. In summer 1899, Olszewska replaced Teodora Krajewska as an AH official female physician in Tuzla. Born in Congress Poland, Olszewska had enrolled in 1873 in the medical courses for women in St. Petersburg but had left Russia in 1880 to study medicine in France. She had lived as a student and single parent in Paris since 1883, and she was awarded her Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Paris in 1894. She could not practice medicine in Russian-occupied Poland because of her French diploma, and she could not practice in most Western countries due to her gender. Therefore, she decided to move to Serbia, where she worked as an assistant physician in the district hospitals of Loznica (1895–1897?) and Požarevac (1897–1899). Driven by the need for a higher income to fund her son’s education, she engaged her network of Polish compatriots and procured the position of an AH official female physician of Tuzla in 1899, where she performed her duties in an exemplary manner. After the breakdown of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (AHE) in 1918, Olszewska remained in Tuzla and retired as a Yugoslav official physician in 1923. When she died in Tuzla in 1932, local colleagues had to arrange for a proper fu- neral because Olszewska did not leave any savings due to her insufficient pension. Olszewska’s grave never received a tombstone, and it is untraceable today.</p><p><strong> Conclusion</strong>. Jadwiga Olszewska (1855–1932) was a woman pioneer of medicine from Poland, who practiced her profession first as an assistant physician in Serbia (1895–1899) and then as an AH and Yugoslavian official female doctor in Tuzla, BH (1899–1923).</p>

Abstract:
Nordaustlandet is the second largest island in the Svalbard archipelago. It has been generally inaccessible by ship because of polar pack ice except for the west coast, or in exceptional summers. Exploration has therefore been limited. The major part of the interior is covered by two large ice caps: Vestfonna and (the large) Austfonna which forms all of the southern coastline in the eastern part of the island. Pre-Devonian, mostly Precambrian outcrops of solid rock extend along the northern and northwestern seaboard. Wahlen-bergfjorden divides the west coast with post-Devonian rocks cropping out to the south of it. These have already been referred to in Chapter 5 so that the main object in this chapter is to outline what is known of the older rocks. Because of the ice caps covering the major part of the island, exposures, especially in the north and east, are often isolated on promontories along the highly indented coastline (Fig. 6.1).After the early visit by Parry in 1828 research was largely by Swedish geologists with A.E. Nordenskiold's sledge journeys in 1861, 1866, 1869 and 1873.A Swedish initiative led to the Russo-Swedish Arc of Meridian Survey along both sides of Hinlopenstretet. During the period 1899 to 1902 (De Geer 1923; Nathorst 1910) and later the Swedish-Norwegian expedition based at Sveanor in Murchisonfjorden (Kulling 1932) resulted in a thorough study of the Hecla Hoek rocks (Kulling 1934).Alongside this were a series of multidisciplinary expeditions from Oxford University in 1924, 1935-36 and 1951. Abstract:
Many scholars know lola ridge (1873–1941) as a passionate, irish-born american poet and activist whose poetry was of-ten tied to American subjects, employed various traditional and avant-garde styles, invited a diverse readership, and “expressed a fiery awareness of social injustice” (Kay Boyle [McAlmon 15]). Her time as magazine editor, however, continues to be overlooked. In 1912 Ridge founded the Ferrer Association's journal Modern School and edited its first issue (Avrich 166). The periodical started as a radical, politically based newsletter for parents but soon became less political, publishing artistic and literary work by students of the association's school. Between late 1918 and early 1919, Ridge oversaw, along with several other associate editors, three issues of the avant-garde poetry journal Others. Ridge also organized the Others Lecture Bureau, which toured parts of the Midwest and hosted several literary parties for magazine contributors and supporters (Churchill 58). Ridge's leading editorial role occurred from February 1922 to April 1923, when she served as the American literary editor of Broom: An International Magazine of the Arts. Broom was an elaborate magazine praised by many, including William Carlos Williams, who exclaimed, “What a magazine that was! Too expensive for its time but superb to hold in the hand and to read” (187). Although publications that discuss Broom largely marginalize Ridge, the correspondence between her and Broom‘s expatriate editor and publisher, Harold Loeb, in files in Princeton's Department of Rare Books and Special Collections labeled “Broom Correspondence of Harold Loeb, 1920–1956,” shows that from the New York office Ridge orchestrated the magazine's recovery, making it one of the most widely circulated privately owned literary magazines of its time. She also created the magazine's standout “all-American” issue, which pushed against European influences and presented modernism as an American project in its own right. Ridge's pivotal role at Broom is noteworthy because the disagreements she had with Loeb highlight prescribed roles female editors encountered, polarize the modernist debates on both sides of the Atlantic, show her confronting one of modernism's well-known artists, and demonstrate how the fallout over the American issue irrevocably affected Broom‘s future.

Abstract:
In this article, the author tried to analyze and evaluate Oleksiy Filippov's research on the seal and coat of arms of the city of Mukachevo, which became his second homeland. Since 2002, he has been visiting the State Archives of the Transcarpathian Region in Berehovo weekly to find documents about Mukachevo's seals and coat of arms. The researcher was interested in the figure of St. Martin. He printed his first articles about the city coat of arms of Mukachevo in the local periodical press. He was one of the first to publish the charter of the Hungarian Queen Elizabeth, dated May 22, 1376. With this document, the settlers of the Munkach villa (Mukachevo) were granted the right to use a seal with the image of St. Martin. In researching the Mukachevo coat of arms, O. Filippov was interested in the following questions: 1. When exactly should the Day of Mukachevo be celebrated - from the time of issuing a seal with the image of St. Martin?; 2. What should Mukachevo's coat of arms be?; 3. What colour solution of this coat of arms? O. Filippov, while working as a journalist for the newspaper «Stariy Zamok,» tried to return the historical coat of arms of the city - St. Martin on a horse. Instead, his proposals were ignored, and as a result, Mukachevo today has a coat of arms with the figure of a priest but with the legend of St. Martin on a horse, next to which is a beggar (a sword and half a cloak in a shield held by a priest). According to O. Filippov, the day of the city should be celebrated on May 22. In 2012, as a result of long-term research, he published the work «Under the Cloak of St. Martin (History of the Coat of Arms of the City of Mukachevo 1376-1943». In this work, O. Filippov described 24 seals of the city of Mukachevo: 14 of them belong to the period of the Kingdom of Hungary, the Austrian and Austro-Hungarian Empires (1376, 1652, 1816, 1844, 1872, 1873, 1902 (6),1914, 1914 – 1916), 8 to the period of Subcarpathian Rus of the Czechoslovak Republic (1919, 1920, 1923 (2), 1925, 1928, 1929, 1933), 2 to the period of the Hungarian Kingdom (1938, 1943). O. Filippov planned further to study the seals and coat of arms of Mukachevo, but his premature death prevented this.

Abstract:
The doctor, journalist, Zionist, and essayist of cultural criticism Max Nordau (born as Simon Maximilian Südfeld 1849 Pest – died in Paris 1923), after high school graduation 1867 enrolled in Medical School at the University of Pest. Aged 37, he became famous at once for his book of cultural criticism titled Conventional Lies of Human Culture (Die conventionellen Lügen der Kulturmenschheit) and later he ruled the narrative and the set of definitions of Fin de Siècle by his main work Degeneration (Entartung). The year 1867 was also an important year in Nordau’s career as a journalist when he was hired to write for Pester Lloyd, a prestigious German-language journal. Prior to World War 1, he submitted Feuilletons to numerous newspapers of Europe and Northern America and was engaged among others for 35 years by the Vossische Zeitung. His works are in 17 languages available and his bestseller Degeneration had e.g. in England seven editions within four months. Between 1873 and 1876 Nordau travelled across Germany and parts of Northern Europe and in 1874, he finally began his long-awaited European tour he earned financially himself. He returned to Budapest only in Dezember 1875 and completed his medical exams. However, he did not stay in Budapest for long. He moved to Paris with his younger sister and mother, where he worked as a doctor and the correspondent of several European journals and in 1880 settled there permanently. When Nordau arrived in Paris, the opportunities he was presented with as a freelance journalist and the international fame of the Parisian medical circles were definitely a positive experiences to him. Nordau’s main achievement was complying with his two professional activities. As a physician, he endeavoured to analyse the contemporary culture by available means of psychopathology. Nevertheless, his diagnosis turned out as a total failure. He denied the creational capabilities of mainstream artists like novelists (Baudelaire, Zola, Verlaine, Tolstoi etc.), componists (e.g. Richard Wagner) and Philosophers (e.g. Nietzsche) and stigmatized them simply as insane and degenerated. However, his significant merits survived in the history of literature since he was a pioneer of modern cultural criticism thus his later impact e.g. on Georg Lukacs was obvious. Concerning Nordau’s works beyond novels, dramas and letters, medical and Zionistic documents, there are prevailing works of cultural criticism. They testify clearly that he was an icon of cultural criticism of Friedrich Nietsche’s significance and one of the leading intellectuals of Europe at the time of the Fin de Siècle. The aim of this paper is to show the years Nordau spent in Pest/ Budapest in terms of polyglottism and national identity. We discuss his linguistic and cultural paradigm shift since 1861 which forced Nordau first into defence and then into isolation both socio-culturally and professionally. He planned to write a dissertation about medical anthropology, a field for which there were no Hungarian specialists at that time.

Abstract:
Among flabelligerid genera Brada Stimpson, 1853 includes several species whose bodies are fusiform or club-shaped, often with a reduced number of chaetigers, and their members are found in temperate and polar waters. In contrast, Bradabyssa Hartman, 1967 is regarded as a monotypic genus with a single Antarctic species with a cylindrical body and a variable number of chaetigers. After examination of all type and non-type material available of both genera, two distinct body patterns were distinguished: one includes the type species for Brada, B. granosa Stimpson, 1853, has only 8 branchial filaments and the neurochaetae are thick, blunt, often falcate, whereas the other includes the type species of Bradabyssa, B. papillata Hartman, 1967, usually has many branchial filaments and neurochaetae are straighter and mucronate. Consequently, Brada is herein restricted to include only 5 species, one of which is new, Brada kudenovi n. sp. Bradabyssa is herein emended to include many species formerly regarded as belonging in Brada, as new combinations, and species can be separated into four groups according to the development of the tunic and its sediment load. Thirteen new species of Bradabyssa are also described: B. indica n. sp., B. mexicana n. sp., B. alaskensis n. sp., B. elinae n. sp., B. grangieri n. sp., B. levensteinae n. sp., B. harrisae n. sp., B. hartmanae n. sp., B. jirkovi n. sp., B. kirkegaardi n. sp., B. monnioti n. sp., B. mezianei n. sp. and B. willeyi n. sp. Abstract:
AbstractThe oeuvre of the orientalist, Turkologist and traveler Ármin Vámbéry has been well researched, his long life full of adventures and his travels made him a famous personality on several continents during the Dualism-era, and so he has not succumbed to oblivion to this day. However, his creativity and work are multi-layered, so they require the approaches of various scientific disciplines, e.g. some facets of his widely ramified and not least unexplored journalistic work can be contributed to Vámbéry research. This article is devoted to Vámbéry's publication on the occasion of the Vienna World Exhibition of 1873, which also allow a comparison with the feuilletons of his friend, who later became a writer, cultural critic and Zionist, Max Nordau (1849, Pest–1923, Paris).
