Full textThis dissertation is a biography of French Admiral Georges Thierry d’Argenlieu (1889-1964), whose religious name was Father Louis de la Trinité, of the Order of Discalced Carmelites. After joining the École Navale in 1906, he took part in the campaign in Morocco and served in the Mediterranean during the First World War. After the conflict, he left the Navy and entered the order of the Discalced Carmelite Friars; this was the consequence of a personal evolution that had started before the war. In 1932, he was elected Provincial Superior of the Order. He was one of the main contributors to the renewal of the Order between the wars. He was mobilised in 1939 and captured during the defence of Cherbourg, but he escaped shortly after and joined De Gaulle in London. From London to Dakar and from Gabon to New Caledonia, he held major positions in the Free French Forces. As the first Chancellor of the Order of the Liberation and a close friend of Général De Gaulle, he had a prominent status in the Navy. In August 1945, he was appointed High Commissioner in Indochina. His mandate was marked by the impossibility to reach an agreement with Hô Chi Minh and the beginning of the First Indochina War. He was recalled to France in 1947 and resumed religious life. This dissertation is notably based on Georges d’Argenlieu’s unpublished personal papers; it aims to provide consistency to the itinerary of a complex man who led an uncompromising life. It explores politico-military relations, the role of Christians in secular society, the relations between senior officers and the French Republic as well as the colonial vision and mores of France at the time of the Liberation

Full textIn response to the question of the status of hermeneutics (philosophical interpretation) within a phenomenological scheme(system) of pure givenness [J. -L. Marion], two complementary and exemplary strategies of articulation between phenomenology and hermeneutics will be examined. It concerns the direct strategy of M. Heidegger in the ontology of the finite understanding of the Dasein and the indirect strategy of P. Ricoeur in the shattered ontology of the weakened Cogito. With regard to the first individual [M. Heidegger] the phenomenon par excellence is the withdrawal of the Being from the Dasein whichs remains in the dissimulation. The task of hermeneutics is to uveil phenomenologically the original layers of the Being of the Dasein. In the second case [ P. Ricoeur], the task of hermeneutics is to reach the identity (Ipseity) of the weakened Cogito by the interpretation of the signs and texts of its traditions and cultures. The weakened Cogito is the result of a deconstruction of transcendantal Ego which arises in existence through thought. Access to the identity (Ipseity) from the weakened Cogito can only occur indirectly through the interpretation of the signs and texts, in view of a good action, in fair institutions. The question concerning the relationship between phenomenology and hermeneutics in M. Heidegger and P. Ricoeur, will give us a certain number of parameters, criteria, rules, in order to explain the specificity of hermeneutics in the phenomenological scheme of pure givenness or of reduction to the pure form of appeal [J. -L. Marion]. If comprehension occupies a primordial place in the hermeneutic phenomenology of M. Heidegger and P. Ricoeur, then what is the status of the comprehension in the paradigm of the saturated phenomenon [J. -L. Marion] ?

Full textOur thesis focuses on the various aspects of nietzsche's presence in the heideggerian project of destruktion of the metaphysics of subjectivity in the years following his first lecture course on "the will to power as art" (1936) and until the letter on humanism (1946). In order to make this explicit, we study the association of the questions of subjectivity and justice in heidegger's interpretation of nietzsche. In fact, the theme of justice appearing in all his ontological implications for the first time in introduction to metaphysics (1935) gives access to the different ways in which nietzsche intervenes in his confrontation with the question of the origin and history of metaphysics. In the first place, justice is dike in the presocratic beginning of philosophy. Its translation as "joining" (fug) permits a new approach to the status of dasein's historicality in fundamental ontology. Actually, its reformulation in the major work of 1936-1938 beitrage zur philosophie (vom ereignis) is the result of the insufficient treatment of being and time. In our second part, we examine another aspect of heidegger's interpretation of justice (gerechtigkeit) in nietzsche qualified as the ultimate moment of the metaphysics of truth. The radical separation of presocratic dike from gerechtigkeit results in his definition as the "metaphysician of subjectivity". In the horizon of the history of being, the justice of life is represented (vor-gestellt) by the will to power. In our third part, we study the ontological status of modern technology as the result of the metaphysics of subjectivity. This is possible insofar as nietzschean justice is identified with rectitude (richtigkeit) and calculative thought (rechnung). In our introduction and conclusion, we concentrate on the hermeneutical nature of justice as "justice of the thought" taking as starting point the term of "differend" (auseinandersetzung) which caracterises the heidegger-nietzsche encounter from its very beginning

Full textCreated by the art lover Frédo Sidès in july 1946, the « Salon des Réalités Nouvelles » was first directed by Auguste Herbin and Félix Del Marle. In the line from Abstraction-Creation, it was meant to set up annual « concrete art, non figurative or abstract art » exhibitions. From 1946 to 1948, the Salon, which was held in the Palais des Beaux Arts in Paris, offered a unique visibility for abstract art, with a very open policy and a will for international participation (the 1948 Salon was attended by more than 350 exhibitors representing 17 nations). Consulting the archives of the SRN, quite forgotten until now, offers the opportunity to understand how the Salon worked, and learn about its diffusion and recognition policy. This consultation also proves that the Salon was the conclusion of a long gestation which started in the 1930’s, an dis directly coneected to the exposition « Réalités Nouvelles » held in the Charpentier gallery by Frédo Sidès and Yvanohé Rambosson in 1939
Dodet, Cyrielle.
In an effort to do away with an essentialist, rigid, and generic approach to poetry in dramatic works, this research looks at the relationship between poetry and drama using an intermedial methodology. By studying a sample corpus made up of textual and theatrical works, this thesis shows how the active presence of poetry is at work in theatre, thereby redefining each of the two concepts through the ways in which they interact. The first chapter traces the genealogy of intermediality within poetry and drama, and that of the dynamic connections between drama and poetry. Throughout the twentieth century, poetry and theatre have come to be seen as « hypermedia » (Kattenbelt), each of them bringing into play various types of media. Meanwhile a number of playwrights started developing dramatic poems exploring intermedial processes. This research identifies and analyses four distinct forms in the thought and works of Mallarmé and Maeterlinck, Stein and Artaud, Gauvreau and Novarina, through the transmedial poetry developed by Cocteau at the confines of drama and cinematography. With a focus on works from the turn of the twentieth to twenty-first century, the second chapter offers a theoretical approach to the dramatic poem, that seeks to bring an updated approach to interactions between drama and poetry. The dramatic poem is an intermedial apparatus that, in Ortel and Rykner's view, inextricably combines the technical, the pragmatic and the symbolic. This apparatus is characterised by its dynamic radicalism, its performativity, its focus on the value of writing as a process and the way in which it conceives of impossibility as a dramatic driving force. Analyses of textual and dramatic works by Kane, Malone, Danis, Régy and Lemoine suggest how intermedial apparatuses are triggered and the kind of aesthetic experience the dramatic poem offers to readers and viewers. Contemplating intermedial processes of poetry in theatre allows for the reframing of an interartial model in an inclusive, hospitable fashion, where all art forms are considered equal, engage in dialogue and exchange, and combine their differences towards a common object.
