Full textThe person of Georg Potente who worked at Sanssouci Garden from 1902 until 1938, reflects the developement from a royal gardener to a public garden director - a creative garden heritage preservator. His work in historical gardens is characterized by an area of conflict typical for its time. It implies both imperatorical requirements, redesigning and modernizing of separate park areas and the often complicated re-establishment of such. It was Potentes appoach to explore the history of origin of gardens, to overlap the available historical maps and trough this to define different states of the gardens at different times. He helped to establish the scientifically based work of te developing garden heritage preservation in the 1920s.

The present work aims at the historical study of meanings and constructions of body in the documentary film Olympia (ALE, 1938), by the German director Leni Riefenstahl. The film shows a portray of the Olympic Games in Berlin, occurred two years before in full Nazi regime. In this event, Adolf Hitler promoted an intense mobilization to propagate an image of Germany as a harmonious and pacific nation. But, at the same time, it also searched to demonstrate the physical superiority of the Germanic race over the other ones. It is looked, in this direction, to demonstrate as this body portrayed in this film is resulted of a series of conceptions and social political questions that gain force since the end of XIX century. From the care of itself, the popularity of sports as form to discipline body and mind to the nudist groups that had multiplied in Germany, all these movements had been absorbed and gained new meanings for the totalitarian dictatorship. Olympia shows an ideal of body and beauty unique and segregated, on behalf of which Nazis will promote the elimination of different ones by means of the Final Solution.

Abstract: The present dissertation strives to discuss the interpretation of the historical process of the Brazilian society presented by Roberto Schwarz, from two sources: the book Raizes do Brasil, by Sérgio Buarque de Holanda and some essays by Antonio Candido, chiefly the "Dialética da malandragem". The procedure enabled the comprehension of how the contributions of both authors were accepted or refused when that interpretation was made. It also enabled the comprehension of the divergences as contributions to the process of formation of the Brazilian social thought, since they were analyzed through the intellectual debate from which they came u

The aim of this work is to investigate the theme of the mirror in contemporary art, and to think about the way in which the examined art works can be related to the time dimension. The key-idea that we decided to follow is a very simple one: the mirror seen as a powerfull artifice, that ultimetely brings along with it the «artificiality» of the concept of identity in itself. We will explore the myth of Perseus, the greek and the baroque mirror — vital anchors; we will then try to characterize the passage from a «dual» specular epoch to a post-specular one, where everything seems to get indistinct. Still the problematic of the double runs into to us – and we are scared. Finally, we´ll think about mirrors in art, where for each pair of chosen artists we matched a particular idea of time. We will meet mirrors that recall eminent danger, infinite mirrors, glacier mirrors, travelling-mirrors, «controlling» mirrors. To summarize: the chosen works have, somewhere, a mirror, they run away from self-representation, they are inexpressive and astute, and they can be related in a fruithful manner to time. In a certain way, the mirror can be considered as the most «impossible» (and fascinating) of all objects: a machine that sees everything, but doesn´t allow to be seen. What happens when inoperativity prevails, and the machine fails or refuses to «see»? The harshness of seconds, minutes and hours are forgotten. Cronus stops, for brief instants, to cruelly devour his children.
