The collection of the United States National Museum of Natural History includes 183 type specimens of Yponomeutoidea: 106 holotypes, 24 lectotypes, 2 neotypes and 14 species described from syntypes. The primary type specimens of Yponomeutoidea are catalogued with annotations of their collecting data, specimen condition and, if any, uncertainty involving in the type series. As ferrovias deram início a muitas transformações no espaço intraurbano, uma vez que, além da linha férrea, outros equipamentos eram necessários para sua operação e logística. As mudanças também ocorreram no espaço interurbano, pois a ferrovia modificou a centralidade das, reestruturando a rede urbana-regional. Este artigo tem o objetivo de analisar a rede urbana ferroviária formada pela The Great western of Brazil Railway Company Limited, que administrou as ferrovias do Nordeste brasileiro na primeira metade do século XX. A análise se dá a partir das receitas das estações ferroviárias das estradas de ferro que compõe a referida rede, da condição de Ponta de Trilhos e entroncamentos de algumas cidades nas linhas férreas. A pesquisa possui abordagem na Geografia Histórica Urbana, conforme a demarcação temporal (1881-1948) e a condução da análise com ênfase nas seguintes fontes documentais: Anuário Estatístico do Brasil (1908-1912, v. I, Território e População), Coleção das leis do Império e da República dos Estados Unidos do Brasil (1902), Cartografia história (1904), Relatórios do Ministério da Indústria, Viação e Obras Públicas (1902, 1907, 1910 e 1915), Relatórios do Ministério da Viação e Obras Públicas (1899, 1901, 1902, 1908, 1909 – v. II e III – e 1910), bem como as Sinopses dos recenseamentos dos anos de 1890 e 1900. Os resultados apontam, a partir da análise das receitas das estações ferroviárias, que a condição de Ponta de Trilhos e entroncamento ferroviário alterou a centralidade da maior parte das cidades que compuseram a rede ferroviária.

Parafia Świętych Apostołów Piotra i Pawła w Spring Valley, Ill., została założona 30 września 1891 r., a nowo wybudowany drewniany kościół został poświęcony 14 sierpnia 1892 r. Na początku do tej parafii należało około 200 rodzin Polaków i Litwinów. Po kilku latach Litwini wznieśli własny kościół. W 1901 r. Polacy wybudowali szkołę i plebanię. 17 grudnia 1906 r. pożar doszczętnie zniszczył świątynię. Ocalała plebania i szkoła. Przez rok nabożeństwa odprawiano w prywatnym budynku. Budowę nowego murowanego kościoła rozpoczęto w 1908 r., jego budowniczy, ks. Hieronim W. Błażyński złożony chorobą zmarł tego samego roku. Od 13 marca 1909 r. budowę kontynuował ks. Józef Cieśla. W krótkim czasie zdołał świątynię dokończyć i wyposażyć ołtarzami, ozdobić witrażami i zapełnić ławkami na pięćset miejsc. Poświęcenie nowego kościoła odbyło się 29 czerwca 1909 r. Przy parafii prowadzona była szkoła, w której blisko 200 dzieci uczyły siostry franciszkanki. Konsekracja kościoła miała miejsce 31 maja 1920 r.
W tym okresie w parafii pracowali księża: Sikorski, Wałajtys, Łopata, Tonello, Mączyński i Balcewicz. Pierwszym proboszczem, od roku 1894 był ks. Julian Papoń, następnie od 1897 r. – ks. Michał Peża, od 1900 r. – ks. Antoni Drewnicki, od 1903 r. – ks. Marcin Piechota, od 1908 r. – ks. Hieronim Błażyński i od 1909 r. – ks. Józef Cieśla.

The work of Meigen 1800 was suppressed by the ICZN Commission in 1963 for the purposes of zoological nomenclature. The work as such is still to be treated as having been published and it remains available as a source of published descriptions and illustrations. Therefore, while the names in Meigen (1800) are deemed unavailable, a subsequent usage of any of the names may be considered a novel proposal. We review the first post-Meigen 1800 occurrence of each name, its first date of availability and authorship, and determine status and synonymy. The exhibition of the legacy of Dr. Svetozar Markovic (1860-1916) held at the end of 2009 in the University library 'Svetozar Markovic' in Belgrade, drew attention to this significant creator, school doctor, public worker and the founder of school hygiene in Serbia. He was the founder of The Association for School Hygiene and National Enlightenment (1906), the founder and the editor of the magazine Light (Svetlost) (1908-1914). This work is refferning only to his findings regarding oral and dental condition of schoolchildren, gathered during systematic examinations the students of the Third Belgrade (Pancic's) High School (from I to VIII), in the school years 1903/1904, 1904/05 and 1907/08.

A review of the stick and leaf insects of Sulawesi, Peleng Island and the Sula islands is presented, along with complete checklists of species. The genera Hemiplasta Redtenbacher, 1908 and Nesiophasma Günther, 1934 are reviewed in detail and distinguishing keys to all known species are provided. Distinguishing keys are also provided to the Sulawesian species of Dimorphodes Westwood, 1859 and Nescicroa Karny, 1923. The latter genus is removed from synonymy with Paranecroscia Redtenbacher, 1908 and re-established as a valid genus (rev. stat.), with a new diagnosis and a preliminary list of species provided. As a result, 17 species are here transferred back to Nescicroa (rev. comb.). The genus Cylindomena Günther, 1935 is removed from synonymy with Parasipyloidea Redtenbacher, 1908 and re-established as a valid genus (rev. stat.). Consequently, the two species originally attributed to Cylindomena are re-transferred to the genus (rev. comb.). A new diagnosis along with a list of species is also given for the genus Myronides Stål, 1875, which is shown to be geographically restricted to Wallacea.
Three new genera in Lonchodidae: Lonchodinae are described from Sulawesi. Gibbopromachus n. gen. is established only for the type-species Pericentrus tripinnatus Redtenbacher, 1908, a species restricted to mossy, mountainous habitats in North Sulawesi; consequently this species now becomes Gibbopromachus tripinnatus (Redtenbacher, 1908) n. comb.. The new genus Neomyronides n. gen. (Type-species: Pseudostheneboea aberrans emiri Hennemann, 1998) is established to comprise three species that have previously been misplaced in other genera. Paramanduria n. gen. is erected to comprise its type-species Neopromachus celebensis Günther, 1935 as well as Prisomera nodosum Günther, 1938; hence these two species change to Paramanduria celebensis (Günther, 1935) n. comb. and Paramanduria nodosum (Günther, 1938) n. comb..
Twenty-two new species are described, 14 from Sulawesi, one from the Togian islands, five from the island of Peleng and two from the island of Sanana. Sulawesi: Dimorphodes elegans n. sp. is decribed from the male and female, Hemiplasta flavifrons n. sp. from the male, Hemiplasta parva n. sp. from the male, Leprocaulinus digitatus n. sp. from the female, Leprocaulinus sulawesiense n. sp. from the male, female and egg, Mnesilochus bodiense n. sp. from the male, Mnesilochus luwuense n. sp. from the female, Myronides tomohonense n. sp. from the male and female, Necroscia malleoformia n. sp. from the male, Nescicroa splendida n. sp. from the male and female, Periphetes borealis n. sp. from the male, Ramulus extensus n. sp. from the male, Ramulus melanurus n. sp. from the male and Ramulus torajanus n. sp. from the male, female and egg. Togian Islands: Ramulus togianense n. sp. is described from both sexes and the eggs. Peleng: Myronides glaucus n. sp., Nesiophasma giganteum n. sp. and Ramulus pelengense n. sp. are described from both sexes and the eggs, Orthomeria limogesi n. sp. from the male and female and Pylaemenes pleurospinosus n. sp. from the female only. Sanana Island: Myronides pussulatus n. sp. and Nesiophasma sananaense n. sp. are described only from the female sex.
Ten species are synonymised (n. syn.): Calvisia (Conocalvisia) octolineata Redtenbacher, 1908 and Calvisia (Conocalvisia) reductipennis Redtenbacher, 1908 synonymised with Calvisia (Conocalvisia) hippolyte (Westwood, 1859); Lonchodes reductus Brunner v. Wattenwyl, 1907 synonymised with Myronides cristulatus Brunner v. Wattenwyl, 1907; Necroscia albofasciata Redtenbacher, 1908 synonymised with Nescicroa smaragdula (Bates, 1865); Necroscia densegranulosa Redtenbacher, 1908 and Sipyloidea (Hemiplasta) falcata Redtenbacher, 1908 synonymised with Hemiplasta mustea (Bates, 1865) n. comb.; Paranecroscia frontalis (Redtenbacher, 1908) synonymised with Nescicroa viridilineata (Bates, 1865); Paranecroscia graminea (Bates, 1865: 356), here synonymised with Nescicroa smaragdula (Bates, 1865); Ramulus melanocephalus (Carl, 1913) synonymised with Ramulus supernumerarius (Brunner v. Wattenwyl, 1907); Sipyloidea felderi Redtenbacher, 1908 synonymised with Singaporoidea poeciloptera (Rehn, 1904) n. comb..
Six subspecies are raised (n. stat.) or re-transferred (rev. stat.) to species level: Dimorphodes celebensis Redtenbacher, 1908 rev. stat., Dimorphodes sarasini Redtenbacher, 1908 rev. stat., Hermagoras celebensis (Hennemann, 1998) n. stat., Leprocaulinus mammatus (Rehn, 1904) rev. stat., n. comb., Neomyronides emiri (Hennemann, 1998) n. comb., n. stat., Nescicroa rufescens (Hennemann, 1998) n. stat.. Hemiplasta rostrata (Redtenbacher, 1908) is removed from synonymy with Hemiplasta styligera (Bates, 1865) and Sipyloidea normalis Redtenbacher, 1908) is removed from synonymy with Sipyloidea poeciloptera Rehn, 1904; both are re-established as a valid species (rev. stat.).

Despite a growing literature on peasant movements in the early 20th century, the story of the peasant rebellions of the Caspian region at the time of the Iranian Constitutional Revolution of 1906–11 has been little studied.1 A close look at three sets of materials—the newspapers of the Constitutional Revolution, among them Majlis (1906–1908), Anjuman (1906–1909), Habl al-Matīn (1907–1909), and Sūr-i Isrāfīl (1907–8); British diplomatic reports; and several regional studies and memoirs of the period—reveal that, during the First Constitutional Period of 1906–1908, a number of strikes and sit-ins were carried out by the peasants, often with the support of craftsmen and workers, who had initiated trade union activity. Such revolts were considerably more sustained and prominent in the northern areas of Gilan and Azerbayjan, which were directly influenced by the flow of radical ideas from the Russian Caucasus; they also benefited from a long history of social struggle among the craftsmen and small shopkeepers (pīshahvarāns), who maintained their guilds, and a tradition of alliances among the craftsmen, the urban poor, and the poor peasants.2

This study provides a comprehensive overview of the genus Zygota Förster combining DNA barcoding and current morphology. Nineteen species of Zygota were found throughout Germany, including the newly described species Zygota wallisp. nov. First species records for Germany are: Zygota balteata Macek, 1997; Z. comitans Macek, 1997; Z. spinosipes (Kieffer, 1908); Z. sordida Macek, 1997; Z. angularis Macek, 1997 and Z. vigil Nixon, 1957. We also clarify diagnoses for the two related genera, Pantoclis Förster and Zygota to designate the boundaries of the Zygota genus and propose new synonymies: Zygota caligula Buhl, 1997 is a junior synonym of Z. congener (Zetterstedt, 1840); Z. reticulata Kozlov, 1978 is a junior synonym of Z. ruficornis (Curtis, 1831). This thesis looks at Bulmer Hobson, the Irish nationalist and Quaker. It is not concerned with the later phase of Hobson's career, fi•om 1908 when he was based in Dublin, but with the earlier one in Ulster. The thesis charts Hobson's formative years and the important influences on him during this period. The early part of the thesis pays particular attention to Hobson's Quakerism and nationalism and the interaction between the two. It looks at the development of this synthesis which provided the basis for Hobson's 'defensive warfare' programme which served as a blueprint for achieving independence from the British and which Hobson applied through the Irish independence movement, Sinn Fein. As part of this the thesis looks at Hobson's early work, both with and in setting up cultural nationalist organizations in Belfast. From here, the thesis goes on to look at how Hobson incorporated Quaker and nationalist influences into his later nationalist work in Ulster, paying particular attention to the work of Hobson's organization, the Dungannon Club. The second part of the thesis looks at the formation and expansion of this organization and its successor, the Sinn Fein League. In looking at both, the thesis examines the two organizations' relationships with other Sinn Fein and non Sinn Fein organizations, as well as the advanced nationalist organization, the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB). While the thesis is concerned with Hobson's career in Ulster, it does not look at this in isolation from the rest of the Irish nationalist movement; instead it links it to wider developments in Ireland, Britain and America. As part of this, particular attention is paid to organizations like the Irish Republican Brotherhood, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Independent Orange Order, the United Irish League and Clan-naGael. The thesis looks at how Hobson tried to pull these various organizations together, as part of a new 'Young Ireland' movement based around his socioeconomic programme, but it recognises this ultimately failed.

The poetical works of Paul Morin are not very well known, and are rarely ever read today. And yet, he was the successor of Emile Nelligan and Albert Lozeau. Paul Morin is one of the first French Canadians to publish his works in France and it was said of his collection of poems Le Paon d'email that it was the spark that ignited the famous "Querelle des regionalistes et des exotiques" in French Canada. Unfortunately, the negative reactions of some of his first critics, were to determine for a long time those of future generations.This thesis focuses on the critical reception of Paul Morin's first two published books: Le Paon d'email (1911) and Poemes de cendre et d'or (1922), and attempts as well to retrace their critical fortunes up until the beginning of the sixties.

Pro gradu -tutkielmani tarkastelee Iso-Britannian suhtautumista Bosnian kriisiksi kutsuttuun tapahtumasarjaan, joka käynnistyi kun Itävalta-Unkari liitti ennen Turkille kuuluneet Bosnian ja Hertsegovinan maakunnat alueisiinsa vuonna 1908. Kriisi päättyi seuraavana vuonna Serbian tunnustettua viimeisenä valtiona maakuntien liittämisen kaksoismonarkiaan. Iso-Britannian suhtautumisen kautta pyrin erittelemään Iso-Britannian ulkopolitiikan pyrkimyksiä kriisin aikana ja yleisemmin. Arvioin kuinka Iso-Britannian ulkoministeriö onnistui asettamiensa tavoitteiden toteuttamisessa. Tarkastelen kuinka Iso-Britannian yleinen poliittinen linja vaikutti suhtautumiseen Bosnian kriisiin, ja kuinka Bosnian kriisi vaikutti Iso-Britannian yleiseen ulkopoliittiseen linjaan.
Iso-Britannia ei pitänyt Itävalta-Unkarin ilmoituksesta liittää Bosnia ja Hertsegovina alueisiinsa. Itävalta-Unkarin katsottiin rikkoneen kansainvälisiä sopimuksia. Iso-Britannian ulkoministeriö pelkäsi seurauksena olevan voimatasapainon järkkyminen, levottomuudet Balkanilla ja Turkin jakaminen. Turkin uusi nuorturkkilainen hallinto oli Iso-Britannian mielestä parlamentaarinen, perustuslaillinen ja liberaali, eikä ulkoministeriö halunnut Iso-Britannialle ystävällismielisen hallinnon kaatuvan. Iso-Britannia mielsi itsensä parlamentarismin mallimaaksi ja halusi nähdä samalla tavalla hallittuja valtioita kaikkialla maailmassa. Venäjän ehdotusta Bosporinsalmen aukaisemisesta Mustanmeren valtioille ei Iso-Britannia voinut hyväksyä. Välimeren kautta kulkivat Iso-Britannialle tärkeät kauppareitit, eikä Venäjän Mustanmeren laivastoa haluttu päästää niitä uhkaamaan. Venäjän kanssa solmittu entente cordiale ei ollut poistanut sodan mahdollisuutta. Iso-Britannia kieltäytyi Venäjän ehdotuksesta, mutta onnistui säilyttämään hyvät suhteet kumppaniinsa.
Balkanin slaavivaltiot pelkäsivät Itävalta-Unkarin etenemistä ja hakivat turvaa neuvottelemalla liitosta Turkin kanssa. Iso-Britannia suhtautui näihin neuvotteluihin kielteisesti, koska pelkäsi liiton aiheuttavan Balkanin laajuisen sodan. Iso-Britannia myötävaikutti Turkin ja Itävalta-Unkarin välisen sopimuksen syntymiseen, joka edisti kriisin rauhanomaista ratkaisua. Iso-Britannian toimet kriisin aikana herättivät myös vastustusta. Saksalaiset ja itävaltalaiset lehdet hyökkäsivät Iso-Britannian ulkopolitiikkaa vastaan syyttäen sitä maidensa ongelmista. Iso-Britannia vastasi kritiikkiin pitäen sitä aiheettomana ja loukkaavana. Omaa lehdistöään Iso-Britannia piti vapaana maailman omatuntona. Hyökkäys Iso-Britannian ulkopolitiikkaa vastaan laantui Itävalta-Unkarin allekirjoitettua sopimuksen Turkin kanssa maakuntien hallinnan siirtymisen korvaamisesta rahallisesti.
Saksa sai nootillaan Venäjän taipumaan ja hyväksymään Bosnian ja Hertsegovinan liittämisen Itävalta-Unkariin. Iso-Britannian rooli oli rauhanomaisen ratkaisun kannalta tärkeä, koska se sovitteli Itävalta-Unkarin ja Serbian välille rauhanomaisen sopimuksen, jonka ansiosta sota vältettiin. Jos Iso-Britannia ei olisi asettunut kriisissä Saksan ja Itävalta-Unkarin sanelupolitiikkaa vastaan, olisivat nämä saattaneet miehittää Serbian. Kriisin seurauksena Iso-Britannian ulkopolitiikan suuntaa arvosteltiin, mutta lopulta se säilyi samana. Entente cordialet Ranskan ja Venäjän suuntaan pysyivät voimassa. Suhteet Venäjään jopa paranivat, vaikka Venäjä nähtiin taantumuksellisena. Iso-Britannia pyrki myös parantamaan suhteitaan Itävalta-Unkariin. Iso-Britannian ja Saksan välejä kriisi kiristi. Second Constitutional Era (1908-1918) was a period within which great changes occurred in the Ottoman Empire. On the one hand, it was a part of the modernization process that began in late eighteenth centuryon the other hand, it was the last period of the Empire that had its own dynamics. This study is to examine changes and continuities in a locality, the Sivas Province, during the Second Constitutional Regime. The Sivas Province was one of the largest and most populated Anatolian provinces. It located in the middle of Anatolia therefore it had a geopolitical importance. Moreover, it was one of the six Eastern Provinces with a considerable Armenian population. Sivas had the biggest Armenian and Greek population among these provinces. Thus, both geopolitical importance and population characteristics make the province an appropriate place to examine change and continuity during the Second Constitutional Regime. In this study, transformation of the province is examined over some topics such as demographic characteristics, political life, administrative, educational and economic structures. The research about these topics indicates that three main dynamics of the Second Constitutional Regime were influential on developments in the Sivas case. These dynamics are war, population movements especially the Armenian Deportation and nationalism. These dynamics also determined implementation of the modernization policies in the Sivas Province during the Constitutional Regime. Therefore, transformation/change of the province is examined over these dynamics.

L'univers mental d'une generation contestataire qui joua un role determinent dans la rupture de 1908, est analyse dans le deuxieme chapitre. Vient ensuite les modeles etrangers que l'intelligentsia ottoman e elabora. Dans le quatrieme chapitre sont analyses les acteurs politiques : les "anciens", ottomans classiques, et les "jeunes", a savoir, les trois courants mentionnes. Dans le cinquieme chapitre, sont traites des themes principaux qui nous permettent de saisir les convergences et les divergences entre ces trois courants : civilisation, revolution, experience constitutionnelle ottomane, nation et nationalisme, et finalement, religion. Ziya gokalp qui est l'un des theoriciens les plus importants d'union et progres, n'est presque pas analyse dans ces cinq premiers chapitres. Tout le sixieme chapitre lui est cependant consacre. E. , the nationalism which founded its political expression in the comittee of union and progress, the liberalism guided by the ideas of the prince sabahaddin and the islamisme which could not build a srong political organisation. After a short introduction, the first chapter deals with the legacy of islam and the ottoman vision of the world. The effects of tanzimat period are also analysed in this section. In the second chapter the mind of the ottoman intelligentsia is analysed. The thirth chapter is on the on the models invented by the this intelligentsia : french, german and japanese models. The fourth chapter deals with the political actors, the "old" ottomans, and the "youngs". The fifth one is on some major thema and trys to show the interdependency between the three intellectual currents : civilisation, revolution, ottoman constitutional experience, nation and nationalism, and finally, religion. The ideas of ziya gokalp who was one of the most preminent ideologue of union et progres are discussed in the sixth chapter. This choice can be justified by his will to arrive to build a synthesis between the different themas of the three curren ts and to establish a nomenclatura between them. Finally, in the conclusion, the problem of continuity and discontinuty between the unionisme and kemalisme are discussed

The rare book section appeared in the library named after M.V. Lomonosov 8 years ago. This fund is small - only a couple of hundred books. However, its value is measured not by size, but by uniqueness. The basis of the fund is made up of editions of the XIX–XX centuries. In terms of its content, the fund is universal. Most of it is fiction. In addition, there is popular science literature of past centuries, dictionaries, encyclopedias, newspapers. The collection of rare books includes: the collection “Poems and Prose Articles” by Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov, published in 1886 and donated in 1984 by the poet Ion Odobescu; A. Glazunov, 1895 edition; I. Turgenev –1898; M. Gorky – 1901; Emilian Bukov – 1938; V. Zhukovsky – 1902; N. Leskov – 1903; P. Tchaikovsky – 1908; I. Brahms – 1873; M. Yu. Lermonotov – 1940; H. Wells – 1909 “Otechestvennye zapiski” – 1840; “Bulletin of Europe” – 1879; “Course of Geography of NonEuropean Countries” – 1905; “Niva” – 1899; K. Marx’s “Capital” – published in 1950 and much more. Our books are not museum pieces. They form part of the actively used collection of the library. Political parties started to be established in Turkey in the second half of the 19th century with the formation of societies aiming at the reform of the Ottoman Empire. They reaped the fruits of their labour in 1908 when the Young Turk Revolution replaced the Sultan with the Committee of Union and Progress, which disbanded itself on the defeat of the Empire in 1918. Following the proclamation of the Republic in 1923, new parties started to be formed, but experiments with a multi-party system were soon abandoned in favour of a one-party system. From 1930 until the end of the Second World War, the People’s Republican Party (PRP) was the only political party. It was not until after the Second World War that Turkey reverted to a multiparty system. The most significant new parties were the Democrat Party (DP), formed on 7 January 1946, and the Nation Party (NP) formed on 20 July 1948, after a spilt in the DP. However, as a result of the coup of 27 May 1960, the military Government, the Committee of National Union (CNU), declared its intentions of seizing power, restoring rights and privileges infringed by the Democrats, and drawing up a new Constitution, to be brought into being by a free election. In January 1961, the CNU relaxed its initial ban on all political activities, and within a month eleven new parties were formed, in addition to the already established parties. The most important of the new parties were the Justice Party (JP) and New Turkey Party (NTP), which competed with each other for the DP’s electoral support. In the general election of October 1961, the PRP’s failure to win an absolute majority resulted in four coalition Governments, until the elections in October 1965. The General Election of October 1965 returned the JP to power with a clear, overall majority. The poor performance of almost all the minor parties led to the virtual establishment of a two-party system. Neither the JP nor the PRP were, however, completely united. With the General Election of October 1969, the JP was returned to office, although with a reduced share of the vote. The position of the minor parties declined still further. Demirel resigned on 12 March 1971 after receiving a memorandum from the Armed Forces Commanders threatening to take direct control of the country. Thus, an “above-party” Government was formed to restore law and order and carry out reforms in keeping with the policies and ideals of Atatürk. In March 1973, the “above-party” Melen Government resigned, partly because Parliament rejected the military candidate, General Gürler, whom it had supported in the Presidential Elections of March-April 1973. This rejection represented the determination of Parliament not to accept the dictates of the Armed Forces. On 15 April, a new “above party” government was formed by Naim Talu. The fundamental dilemma of Turkish politics was that democracy impeded reform. The democratic process tended to return conservative parties (such as the Democrat and Justice Parties) to power, with the support of the traditional Islamic sectors of Turkish society, which in turn resulted in the frustration of the demands for reform of a powerful minority, including the intellectuals, the Armed Forces and the newly purged PRP. In the last half of the 20th century, this conflict resulted in two periods of military intervention, two direct and one indirect, to secure reform and to quell the disorder resulting from the lack of it. This paper examines the historical development of the Turkish party system, and the factors which have contributed to breakdowns in multiparty democracy.

Based on archival and data of Russian historiography, the article analyzes the course and main results of the cantonment of the 20th East Siberian Regiment of the 2nd Army Corps of the Russian Imperial Army in Troitskosavsk (now Kyakhta) in 1908–1909, XX century. The main problems associated with the deployment of this military unit, the consequences of this event for the economy of Troitskosavsk and the county of the same name are analyzed. For the first time, data on the number of rank-and-file and regiment officers placed at the time of the study (1908–1909) in Troitskosavsk are being put into scientific circulation.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community (AMC, or Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at) believe themselves to be Muslims. The AMC was founded by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad in 1889 as a revival movement within Islam. Unlike all other sects of Islam, they believe that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835–1908) of Qadian (a small town in Gurdaspur district of Punjab, India) is the same promised Messiah who was prophesied by the prophet Muhammad. Other sects believe that the promised Messiah is yet to come and, therefore, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad is a false prophet and his followers are non-Muslims.

At their most basic level taxes carry, in the words of Schumpeter ([1918] 1991), “the thunder of history” (p. 101). They say something about the ever-changing structures of social, economic, and political life. Taxes offer a blueprint, in both symbolic and concrete terms, for uncovering the most fundamental arrangements in society – stratification included. The historical retellings captured within these data highlight the politics of taxation in Alabama from 1856 to 1901, including conflicts over whom money is expended upon as well as struggles over who carries their fair share of the tax burden. The selected timeline overlaps with the formation of five of six constitutions adopted in the State of Alabama, including 1861, 1865, 1868, 1875, and 1901. Having these years as the focal point makes for an especially meaningful case study, given how much these constitutional formations made the state a site for much political debate. These data contain 5,121 pages of periodicals from newspapers throughout the state, including: Alabama Sentinel, Alabama State Intelligencer, Alabama State Journal, Athens Herald, Daily Alabama Journal, Daily Confederation, Elyton Herald, Mobile Daily Tribune, Mobile Tribune, Mobile Weekly Tribune, Morning Herald, Nationalist, New Era, Observer, Tuscaloosa Observer, Tuskegee News, Universalist Herald, and Wilcox News and Pacificator. The contemporary relevance of these historical debates manifests in Alabama’s current constitution which was adopted in 1901. This constitution departs from well-established conventions of treating the document as a legal framework that specifies a general role of governance but is firm enough to protect the civil rights and liberties of the population. Instead, it stands more as a legislative document, or procedural straightjacket, that preempts through statutory material what regulatory action is possible by the state. These barriers included a refusal to establish a state board of education and enact a tax structure for local education in addition to debt and tax limitations that constrained government capacity more broadly. Prohibitive features like these are among the reasons that, by 2020, the 1901 Constitution has been amended nearly 1,000 times since its adoption. However, similar procedural barriers have been duplicated across the U.S. since (e.g., California’s Proposition 13 of 1978). Reference: Schumpeter, Joseph. Показано, що створена владою у роки сталінської модернізації аграрного сектора система тотального насильства в українському селі призвела до маргіналізації і деморалізації селянського суспільства, при цьому насильство почало сприйматися як норма у стосунках влади і селянства.
