This study was prompted by a natural inquisitiveness about the concentration of timber buildings in both Braemar on Deeside and Fochabers on Speyside, and the assumed association with the history of timber extraction in the respective river systems. Reinforced by childhood memories of timber buildings in other locations, the idea turned into an ironic quest for a Lost Tradition of Timber buildings in North East Scotland. Logging constituted the first industry on the North Shore of Burrard Inlet and remained an important part of the local economy until its decline in the early 1930's. Denna uppsats beskriver möbelarkitekten Axel Einar Hjorths karriär och produktion med fokus på åren 1927-32, hans första sex år som chefsarkitekt på Nordiska Kompaniet. Genom att undersöka några samtida tidskrifter försöker uppsatsen även utröna hur Hjorth mottogs under sin egen tid, samt varför han var förtigen i svenskdesignhistoria så länge. Les années 30 représentent un moment fondamental dans le processus culturel et identitaire du Brésil, où la fonction sociale de la littérature, notamment du roman, et le rôle de l’écrivain en tant que ‘conscience vivante’ du pays sont reconnus et problématisés. Cependant, dans la majorité des histoires, des anthologies et des manuels littéraires, aucun nom de femme ne figure parmi les auteurs canoniques de la période, à l’exception de celui de Rachel de Queiroz.
