This paper analyses the dynamics of Italian diplomacy in Albania from the beginning of the 20th century until 1939, when the Fascists occupied Albania. The primary purpose of this paper is to show how the interests of Italy, combined with the political and economic conditions of the country and, more broadly, of the Balkan peninsula, have changed constantly. Considering the Italian and Albanian diplomatic documents and broader literature, this paper will show the dynamics that shaped the development of Italy's foreign policy concerning Albania and the Balkans in the first three decades of the century. Therefore, in the beginning, it will explain why Albania was relevant to Italian interests. In the context of the Balkan wars, Italy shared its interest with the Austria-Hungarian Empire because it aimed also to control the Adriatic Sea. Afterwards, Yugoslavia was one of Italy's rivals on the Peninsula. Being aware that Albania, like other countries in the Mediterranean, enjoys high interest from the great powers, Italy often tried to receive the UK's and France's approval on some of its moves. Hence, international events like the Balkan wars and WWI and Italian and Albanian political leaders did have a relevant role in shaping foreign policy toward the Balkans and Albania.

On March 15, 2024, Aquilino Mata Mier, honorary president of the Association of Republican Pilots (ADAR, division Cat-alonia-North-Balearic Islands), laureate of the international award of the St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation “Faith and Loyalty”, passed away. Events of the Spanish conflict 1936-1939. for many years remained one of the main topics of Russian-Spanish scientific and public dialogue; it was dur-ing the civil war that the closest ties between our countries developed. The memory of the USSR's assistance to the Spanish Republic is still preserved by the Spaniards, and one of the keepers of this memory was Aquilino Mata Mier. It is difficult to overestimate the contribution that, thanks to his energy, enthusiasm, conviction in the significance of the work he is engaged in, Aquilino Mata made to the preservation of historical memory of the events of 1936-1939, as well as to the maintenance of Russian-Spanish scientific interaction and the preservation of bilateral ties in difficult modern conditions.

Although mesothelioma rates have been rising worldwide, little is known about mesothelioma trends in Alberta. This population-based descriptive study used Alberta Cancer Board Registry data from 1980 to 2004 to develop an age-period–cohort model of male pleural mesothelioma incidence rates over time. Both age and cohort effects are associated with incidence rates. The highest-risk cohort comprised men born between 1930 and 1939, reflecting widespread asbestos use and exposure beginning in the 1940s in Canada. We predict that 1393 Albertan men 40 years and older will die of pleural mesothelioma between 1980 and 2024; 783 (56.2%) of these deaths will occur between 2010 and 2024. The total number of mesothelioma deaths in Alberta will be higher when all age groups, both sexes, and all disease sites are included, with numbers likely peaking sometime between 2015 and 2019. In addition to the ongoing efforts that focus on eliminating asbestos-related disease in Alberta, the challenge is to implement surveillance systems to prevent future epidemics of preventable occupational cancers in Alberta.

The presented article was prepared within the framework of the implementation of the annual plan of scientific work of the State Printing Archive of the Book Chamber of Ukraine: in the current year 2024, we are researching domestic prints of 1940, that is, the period of the Second World War and the post-war reconstruction of the Ukrainian SSR. Establishing the thematic and substantive priorities of the periodicals of the time, the author focused attention on such a defining aspect of national state-building as the territorial expansion of Soviet Ukraine at the initial stage of the Second World War. The article examines the problem of Western Ukrainian lands becoming part of the Ukrainian SSR, in particular, Eastern Galicia and Northern Bukovyna. The premise of the event was a bilateral conspiracy between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union regarding the division of Europe into spheres of influence. The Soviet-German treaty of September 28, 1939 became a documentary post-factum confirmation of the event. A feature of the territorial changes of the Ukrainian SSR at that time was the inclusion of lands that, according to the Soviet-Polish treaty of August 16, 1945, Soviet Ukraine lost. We are talking about Nadsiany, Kholm region, Podlasie and Lemkiv region, which in 1939 entered the Ukrainian SSR, and in 1945 became part of the Polish People's Republic. The source base of the presented intelligence was made up of domestic periodicals, namely: the republican magazine "Red cross" for 1939 and the regional literary and artistic almanac "Vilna Bukovyna" for 1940—1941, which tell about the crossing by the Red Army of the Polish-Soviet and the Romanian-Soviet state borders and the events that resulted from it. The purpose of this investigation was to process the mentioned press releases by the method of content analysis.

Abstract. For over 6 months, the 2014–2015 effusive eruption at Holuhraun, Iceland, injected considerable amounts of sulfur dioxide (SO2) into the lower troposphere with a daily rate of up to one-third of the global emission rate, causing extensive air pollution across Europe. The large injection of SO2, which oxidises to form sulfate aerosol (SO42-), provides a natural experiment offering an ideal opportunity to scrutinise state-of-the-art general circulation models' (GCMs) representation of aerosol–cloud interactions (ACIs). Here we present Part 1 of a two-part model inter-comparison using the Holuhraun eruption as a framework to analyse ACIs. We use SO2 retrievals from the Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI) instrument and ground-based measurements of SO2 and SO42- mass concentrations across Europe, in conjunction with a trajectory analysis using the Hybrid Single Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) model, to assess the spatial and chemical evolution of the volcanic plume as simulated by five GCMs and a chemical transport model (CTM). IASI retrievals of plume altitude and SO2 column load reveal that the volcanic perturbation is largely contained within the lower troposphere. Compared to the satellite observations, the models capture the spatial evolution and vertical variability of the plume reasonably well, although the models often overestimate the plume altitude. HYSPLIT trajectories are used to attribute to Holuhraun emissions 111 instances of elevated sulfurous surface mass concentrations recorded at European Monitoring and Evaluation Programme (EMEP) stations during September and October 2014. Comparisons with the simulated concentrations show that the modelled ratio of SO2 to SO42- during these pollution episodes is often underestimated and overestimated for the young and mature plume, respectively. Models with finer vertical resolutions near the surface are found to better capture these elevated sulfurous ground-level concentrations. Using an exponential function to describe the decay of observed surface mass concentration ratios of SO2 to SO42- with plume age, the in-plume oxidation rate constant is estimated as 0.032 ± 0.002 h−1 (1.30 ± 0.08 d e-folding time), with a near-vent ratio of 25 ± 5 (µg m−3 of SO2 / µg m−3 of SO42-). The majority of the corresponding derived modelled oxidation rate constants are lower than the observed estimate. This suggests that the representation of the oxidation pathway/s in the simulated plumes is too slow. Overall, despite their coarse spatial resolutions, the six models show reasonable skill in capturing the spatial and chemical evolution of the Holuhraun plume. This capable representation of the underlying aerosol perturbation is essential to enable the investigation of the eruption's impact on ACIs in the second part of this study.

Les taux de mésothéliome sont à la hausse à l’échelle mondiale, mais les tendances en Alberta sont encore peu connues. Les auteurs de la présente étude descriptive basée sur une population se sont servis des données de 1980 à 2004 du registre de l’Alberta Cancer Board afin d’élaborer un modèle âge-période-cohorte de l’évolution dans le temps de l’incidence du mésothéliome pleural chez les hommes. Les taux d’incidence sont influencés à la fois par l’âge et par la cohorte. La cohorte des hommes nés entre 1930 et 1939 présente le risque le plus élevé, ce qui coïncide avec une utilisation répandue de l’amiante, et donc une exposition importante, à partir des années 1940 au Canada. Nous prévoyons qu’entre 1980 et 2024, 1 393 hommes albertains de 40 ans et plus mourront d’un mésothéliome pleural, dont 783 (56,2 %) entre 2010 et 2024. Une fois tous les groupes d’âge, les deux sexes et les divers sièges de la maladie pris en compte, le nombre total de décès en Alberta causés par un mésothéliome sera plus grand. Il atteindra sûrement un pic entre 2015 et 2019. En plus des efforts constants axés sur l’élimination des maladies liées à l’amiante en Alberta, l’enjeu majeur est la mise en place de systèmes de surveillance pour la prévention d’épidémies de cancers professionnels évitables en Alberta.

No se puede subestimar el papel de la ética en la configuración de un entorno de aprendizaje positivo. Como lo destacan las ideas de Dewey sobre el aprendizaje-servicio, el vínculo educativo entre estudiantes y profesores a nivel universitario sirve como base crucial para el aprendizaje ético. Al fomentar un entorno que fomente la comunicación abierta, el respeto mutuo y la colaboración, los profesores universitarios pueden ayudar a los estudiantes a desarrollar las habilidades de pensamiento crítico y el razonamiento moral necesarios para la toma de decisiones éticas. Además, la integración de consideraciones éticas en el plan de estudios puede mejorar aún más la comprensión de los estudiantes sobre la importancia de la ética en los campos elegidos.

Abstract Background NT219 is a novel small molecule, a dual inhibitor which uniquely triggers the degradation of Insulin Receptor Substrates 1/2 (IRS) and the dephosphorylation and suppression of STAT3, two major oncogenic targets that play a key role in drug resistance. Mutated KRAS (mKRAS) has long been referred to as undruggable until recently when KRASG12C inhibitors were approved. While KRASG12C is the most common oncogenic driver in NCSLC, KRASG12D is found in 42% of pancreatic tumors. We present NT219 suppressive effect on mKRASi resistant and sensitive cells of both PDAC and NSCLC, as well as on cancer stem cells (CSC) known to contribute to disease recurrence. Method The inhibitory effects of NT219 as a monotherapy or in combination with either KRASG12C inhibitors (sotorasib/adagrasib) or KRASG12D inhibitor (MTRX1133) were tested in 2D cell growth and colony formation assays using mKRAS inhibitor sensitive and resistant cancer cell lines. The effect of NT219 and mKRASi on cancer stem cells was assessed using 3D spheroid assay evaluating spheroid size (microscopic measurements), cell viability (CellTiterGlo) and stemness marker expression (FACS analysis). Results NT219 in combination with either sotorasib or MTRX1133 suppressed established spheroids of NSCLC(KRASG12C) and PDAC(KRASG12D) respectively, in terms of size, disintegration and viability. In NSCLC H358, spheroid satellites appeared following treatment with sotorasib, while the combination with NT219 suppressed it. CSC marker ALDH increased 7-fold in NSCLC spheroids as compared to 2D grown cells, while NT219 and sotorasib suppressed it. The expression of SOX2 stemness marker was reduced by NT219 alone (5 fold), unexpectedly induced by sotorasib (4 fold) and suppressed by NT219+sotorasib (15 fold vs sotorasib alone). In addition, significant induction of STAT3, was observed following sotorasib treatment and completely reversed by the addition of NT219. We also demonstrate that NT219 induces growth inhibition in both KRASiG12C resistant PDAC and NSCLC, and KRASiG12D resistant PDAC cells. NT219 exhibited synergistic effects with adagrasib and MTRX1133, in suppressing the proliferation of KRASG12C PDAC and NSCLC cells and KRASG12D PDAC cells, respectively. This combination showed a synergistic effect in xenograft model. Conclusion We first showed the effect of NT219 in suppressing cancer stem cells, known to promote resistance and tumor recurrence. Synergistic effect of NT219 and mKRAS inhibitors, G12Cand G12D, in NSCLC and PDAC respectively, was demonstrated. Initial results suggest involvement of NT219 target proteins in resistance to mKRASG12C/D inhibitors. Statement of the problem. Small cycles from “24 Preludes and Fugues” (1937–1939) by V. P. Zaderatsky (1891–1953) represent an original compositional and dramaturgical phenomenon. Often it is the preludes that are the bearers of the most vivid, relief themes and images and determine the content-semantic dominance of the small and large polyphonic cycle as a whole, while the fugues are dramaturgically weaker and complement or shade the preludes. This allows us to hypothesize about the important role of preludes in the polyphonic cycle of V. P. Zaderatsky. Recent research and publications. The latest studies demonstrate a significant interest in Ukrainian polyphonic music, as evidenced by the recently defended dissertations by L. Tsyganyuk (2023), S. Postovoitova (2024) on the material of the polyphonic cycles of V. Bibik, A. Karamanov, M. Skoryk, O. Yakovchuk, I. Pyaskovskyi, B. Stronko, V. Zaderatsky. O. Ostapchuk (2023), and S. Postovoitova (2024) are currently showing interest in “24 Preludes and Fugues” by V. Zaderatsky, whose work is returning “from oblivion” (Ostapchuk, 2023). In S. Postovoitova’s dissertation, the large polyphonic cycle is studied from the aspect of compositional and dramaturgical unity, while the fugue itself is considered as the conceptual center of the small and large polyphonic cycles. With a comprehensive disclosure of the features of fugues, much less attention is paid to the preludes, although they can often be considered as carriers of the leading images of the cycle. Objectives, methods, and novelty of the research. The scientific novelty of the research consists in the creation of a genre-stylistic typology of the preludes of the large polyphonic cycle of V. Zaderatsky, which led to the setting of the main purpose – to identify the genre-stylistic affiliation of the preludes of the cycle to a certain stable type. This led to the involvement of the following methods: structural-functional; genre-stylistic analysis; typological; comparative. Results and conclusions. The analysis has shown that the most important group of preludes demonstrates mixed genre parameters (toccata, scherzo, etude), among others – groups of lyricalnocturne, pastoral, scherzo-fairytale (with a hidden plot), gloomy impromptu, etude preludes. All of them illustrate the composer’s attraction to rationalistic structures: whole-tone scales, polymetry (different meters in the left-hand and right-hand parts), complex polyrhythms, which testify to the clearly constructive nature of the design of most of the Preludes.

Мистецька епоха у особі Василя Гуріна займає важливу ланку образотворчого мистецтва України. Його твори і твори його учнів збагачують приватні колекції, збірки музеїв України і за кордоном, формуючи певну мистецьку площину у довготривалому зрізі часу. У статті методом обговорення заходів 2024 року, які відбулись з нагоди 85-річя з дня народження Василя Гуріна, проведено планове, кожні 5 років, переосмислення мистецької школи професора. Безпосередньо персональна виставка творів з фондів НАОМА 18.03.–15.04.2024. Окремі твори експонувались вперше. На виставці було представлені твори різних періодів: від дипломного твору, написаного при завершені художнього училища у Сімферополі, твори студентських років КДХІ і до початку 2000-х років. На основі методичного матеріалу виставки, організованої кафедрою живопису і композиції, було також проведено круглий стіл 10.04.2024 «Мистецька школа Василя ГУРІНА (1939–2018)». Також для дослідження було використано матеріали методичної виставки з фондів НАОМА, вибірково експонувались учбові постановки, виконані в учбовій майстерні Василя Гуріна. Ці події стали підґрунтям для оновлення методичної бази мистецької школи Василя Гуріна. Переосмислення кожні п'ять років мистецької епохи дозволяє відкрити нові ланки живописних традицій НАОМА. Останнє прилюдне обговорення відбулось на прес-конференції «Гуріну спомин» у 2019 році у виставкових залах НСХУ. Що стосується творчості, Василь Гурін віддавав перевагу підходу, який базувався на поєднанні найкращих методологічних досягнень у мистецтві образотворення з відкриттям можливостей для вільного та індивідуального вислову. Аналізуючи дипломні твори студентів, що виходили з майстерні Василя Гуріна, можна відзначити, що він, ймовірно, передавав свої композиційні амбіції на молодих творчих особистостей, студентів. Можна відзначити, що педагогічний підхід Василя Івановича Гуріна, з часом, демонстрував певну еволюцію. На початкових етапах, особливо на третьому та четвертому курсах, вплив професора був виразним, іноді навіть вказівним. Однак при аналізі результатів роботи студентів на п'ятому і шостому курсах помітно, що методика викладання Василя Івановича ставала більш гнучкою та рекомендаційною. Він стимулював студентів обирати власний шлях у творчому процесі, дозволяючи їм самостійно розвивати свої вміння та здібності.

Introdução: O Acesso de Primeiro Contato é um dos atributos essenciais da Atenção Primária à Saúde (APS) e desempenha um papel fundamental na promoção da saúde, prevenção de doenças, tratamento de condições agudas e gerenciamento de condições crônicas. Objetivos: Este artigo explora a importância do Acesso de Primeiro Contato na APS, destacando seus benefícios para os indivíduos e para o Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS). Método: Trata-se de uma revisão narrativa de literatura, bibliográfica e não sistemática, que buscou abordar as principais estratégias para melhorar o Acesso de Primeiro Contato. Resultados: Os resultados apontam para a ampliação do horário de funcionamento, a implantação de sistemas de triagem, o uso de tecnologias, o fortalecimento de equipes multidisciplinares, estratégias de educação em saúde e programas de agendamento. Considerações Finais: Estas estratégias mostram-se como peças-chave para a construção de um sistema de saúde mais eficiente, acessível e centrado no usuário. Ao continuar investindo nesses esforços, o SUS poderá alcançar uma APS mais robusta e contribuir para a promoção da saúde e o bem-estar de toda a população.

A atresia de esôfago é uma malformação congênita que interrompe o esôfago e frequentemente está associada à fístula traqueoesofágica. Com uma incidência de 1 em cada 2.500 a 4.500 nascidos vivos, a sobrevivência de recém-nascidos com esta condição aumentou para mais de 90% devido a avanços cirúrgicos desde 1939. Classificada em cinco tipos, a anomalia exige uma abordagem cirúrgica adequada baseada no tipo identificado, geralmente diagnosticado pós-natalmente por radiografia e sintomas clínicos. Além da importância do diagnóstico e intervenção precoces, a atresia esofágica muitas vezes se associa a outras malformações congênitas, formando o complexo VACTERL (Vertebral, Anorectal, Cardiac, Tracheoesophageal, Renal, Limb anomalies). O tratamento envolve anastomose esofágica primária ou, em casos complexos, técnicas avançadas como o uso de segmentos intestinais. O seguimento a longo prazo monitora complicações como estenose esofágica e refluxo gastroesofágico, garantindo suporte nutricional adequado. A revisão abrange literatura de 2004 a 2024, explorando aspectos fisiopatológicos, clínicos e estratégias cirúrgicas. A formação do esôfago e traqueia inicia-se na quarta semana de gestação, e falhas neste processo resultam na atresia esofágica. Síndromes como VACTERL e CHARGE frequentemente acompanham a atresia esofágica, complicando o manejo clínico. O diagnóstico, geralmente entre 24 e 48 horas após o nascimento, utiliza radiografias mostrando a sonda parada no esôfago. No tipo mais comum (tipo C), envolvendo fístula entre esôfago distal e traqueia, a cirurgia padrão é a toracotomia ou toracoscopia com anastomose primária. Nos casos de longa distância entre segmentos esofágicos (tipos A e B), técnicas de tração para crescimento esofágico ou substituição por segmentos intestinais podem ser necessárias. Para a atresia tipo H (tipo E), a broncoscopia pré-operatória localiza a fístula antes do reparo cirúrgico. A pesquisa contínua e desenvolvimento de novas técnicas são essenciais para melhorar desfechos clínicos e qualidade de vida dos pacientes. O manejo eficaz requer uma abordagem multidisciplinar e acompanhamento a longo prazo para monitorar possíveis complicações.

2024 marks the 125th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding surgeon, scientist, teacher and public figure, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Nikolai Ilyich Blinov. N. I. Blinov was born on February 18, 1899 in Uglich, Yaroslavl province. In 1924, he completed his studies at the Petrograd State Institute of Medical Knowledge (GIMZ) and was left as a resident at the Department of General Surgery. From 1927 to 1931, N. I. Blinov worked as a surgical resident at the Institute of Surgical Tuberculosis. In 1932, he was appointed the head of the serological laboratory at the Research Institute of Blood Transfusion. According to the totality of scientific works, in 1935, N. I. Blinov was awarded the degree of candidate of medical sciences, and a year later, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “The doctrine of blood groups and its significance in the clinic”. In 1939, he was elected the associate professor of the Surgical clinic No. 2 of the Leningrad State Institute for Advanced Medical Training. During the Great Patriotic War, he was the chief surgeon of several hospitals in besieged Leningrad; he continued to work in the State Institute for Advanced Medical Training for the training of medical personnel. In 1951, he was elected the professor of the surgical clinic No. 2 of the Leningrad State Institute for Advanced Medical Training, and since 1952 – Head of the Department of General Surgery of the Leningrad State Institute for Advanced Medical Training and headed it until 1968. In the period from 1954 to 1959, he served as director of the State Institute for Advanced Medical Training. He is the author of more than 200 scientific papers; 2 doctoral and 20 PhD theses have been defended under his supervision. N.I. Blinov paid great attention to public activities, was elected the member of the Leningrad City Council of Workers’ Deputies, the deputy of the Smolninsky district Council of Workers’ Deputies. He was awarded orders and medals of the USSR, Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1967). He retired in September 1968. He died on April 15, 1971. He was buried at the Bolsheokhtinsky cemetery in St. Petersburg.

The Albanian Communist Party was born as a Bolshevik-style party, endowed with a non-Bolshevik but social democratic program, such as popular democracy. To shed light on the factors that determined the arrival of the communist regime in Albania, it is necessary to start the analysis from its roots, that is, since the establishment of the communist regime in Albania. For his part, although the communist regime was established in Albania immediately after the end of World War II, the roots of the phenomenon must be sought from the beginning of the war, even a few months earlier when Albania was invaded on April 7, 1939, by fascist Italy. When Albania was invaded by fascist Italy, no one inside or outside the country predicted, nor could have predicted, that at the end of World War II, the Albanian Communist Party would take power into its own hands. There were subjective and objective reasons for this. First of all, when World War II broke out, Albania was the only country in the Balkans that did not have a Communist Party. However, the absence of the Communist Party was largely a subjective factor. The establishment of the communist regime in Albania was for objective reasons a completely paradoxical phenomenon. Albania, the youngest state in Europe, at the same time its most backward state, with a population of one million and forty thousand inhabitants, had no developed industry, ie no working class in the eyes of the proletariat, as conceived by Marxist doctrine. According to Marxist definitions, Albania was a micro-bourgeois country, that is, without capitalist owners and capitalist institutions, to the extent that they justified the socialist revolution. In addition, the Albanian population was overwhelmingly still illiterate. There were only a few isolated nuclei or communist groups with few members composed mainly of artisans and students, who were further characterized by ideological perversion and worse still by political rivalries between them. The question before historians is this: How can it be explained that despite all these disadvantages, the Albanian Communist Party, which was founded two and a half years after the occupation of the country by fascist Italy, on November 8, 1941, managed to face the war against the occupiers within three years. Nazi fascists and against internal nationalist factors, to take political power in Albania at the end of the Second World War? In addition, how is it that the Albanian Communist Party, unlike its Eastern European counterparts, seized political power on its own, without the presence of Soviet armies, which are not known to have invaded Albania? Albania's position during the Second World War and especially the National Liberation War must be judged by ourselves, regardless of who led it. We must judge it as we do in every historical event. The communist dictatorship that was established in Albania should not blind us to the judgment we give in the national liberation war. The communist regime is not a necessary offspring of the National Liberation War. In my opinion, the establishment of the communist regime is the result of mistakes made during the national liberation war, it is a consequence of the poverty of the political culture of the Albanian people, the lack of traditional political parties, the naivety of the Communist Party leaders, the illusions of united nationalists with the National Liberation Front, of myopia, of the leaders of the National Front, which were used by Enver Hoxha to realize under the umbrella of patriotic war his dictatorial ambitions. Istniał on w latach 1934-1939 i był miejscem, w którym przetrzymywano przeciwników politycznych obozu sanacyjnego, który sprawował wówczas władzę w Polsce. Dopuszczano się tam w stosunku do osadzonych tortur psychicznych i fizycznych. Funkcję lekarza obozu pełniło dwóch lekarzy wojskowych, mjr dr. K. Dietl i kpt. dr S. Gutowski. Prowadzili oni Ambulatorium i Izbę Chorych, a w razie konieczności przekazywali pacjentów do Szpitala Powiatowego w Kobryniu. Każdy z nich na miarę swoich umiejętności zawodowych i doświadczenia starał się nieść pomoc osadzonym więźniom politycznym.

Статья посвящена 85-летию выхода в свет первого издания сказки А. М. Волкова «Волшебник Изумрудного города» (1939). В работе использован рукописный фонд мемориальной коллекции детского писателя А. М. Волкова, хранящийся в Томском государственном педагогическом университете. Рукописи позволяют проникнуть в мастерскую писателя, проследить становление и развитие замысла, хода творческого процесса. Сопоставление структуры глав в рукописи 1936 г. и в издании 1939 г. позволило выявить изменения, внесенные в композицию (удаление, введение новых, объединение глав). Кроме того, в статье приводятся фрагменты рукописей 1936 г., которыми А. Волков планировал дополнить текст, однако не включил их в печатный вариант 1939 г. Анализ черновиков дал представление о работе А. Волкова с именами персонажей. Писателю было важно найти эквиваленты именам в сказке Ф. Баума, чтобы они были понятны русскоязычному читателю и оптимально раскрывали образ персонажа. Наибольшее количество вариантов имени писатель прорабатывал для Скэркора (Страшилы). Особый интерес представляет рукопись фрагментов пьесы А. М. Волкова «Полет в Сказочную страну» по мотивам «Волшебника Изумрудного города». Рукопись впервые вводится в научный оборот и комментируется. Дневниковые записи А. Волкова и необычный образ Гудвина в фрагментах пьесы (раба-негра дядюшки Джо, сбежавшего от эксплуататора) свидетельствуют о том, что писатель пытался подчиниться обстоятельствам, адаптироваться к требованиям цензуры, вписав сказочный сюжет в традиции социальной литературы конца XIX – первой половины ХХ в. Однако незавершенность замысла пьесы может быть объяснена как внешними (наступление оттепели), так и внутренними (неготовность подчиняться политической конъюнктуре) причинами. Рукопись фрагментов «Полета в Сказочную страну» полностью публикуется в данном номере журнала. The article is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the publication of the first edition of A. M. Volkov’s fairy tale “The Wizard of the Emerald City” (1939). The work uses for the first time the handwritten collection of the children’s writer A.M. Volkov, stored at Tomsk State Pedagogical University. Manuscripts allow one to penetrate into the writer’s workshop, to trace the formation and development of an idea and the course of the creative process. A comparison of the structure of chapters in the 1936 manuscript and the 1939 edition made it possible to identify changes made to the composition (deletion, introduction of new ones, merging chapters). In addition, the article provides fragments of manuscripts from 1936, with which A. Volkov planned to supplement the text, but did not include them in the printed version of 1939. Analysis of the drafts gave an idea of A. Volkov’s work with character names. It was important for the writer to find equivalents to the names in F. Baum’s fairy tale, so that they would be understandable to the Russian-speaking reader and optimally reveal the character’s image. The writer worked on the largest number of name options for Scarecrow. Of particular interest is the manuscript of fragments of A. M. Volkov’s play “Flight to Fairyland” based on “The Wizard of the Emerald City”. The manuscript is introduced into scientific circulation for the first time and commented on. The diary entries of A. Volkov and the unusual image of Goodwin in fragments of the play (a black slave Uncle Joe who escaped from an exploiter) indicate that the writer tried to submit to circumstances, adapt to the requirements of censorship, inscribing a fairy tale plot into the traditions of social literature of the late 19th – first half XX century. However, the incompleteness of the play’s concept can be explained by both external (the onset of the “thaw”) and internal (unwillingness to obey the political situation) reasons. The manuscript of “Flight to Fairytale Land” is published in full in this issue of the magazine.

The article analyzes the structure of craft production in the city of Rivne in the interwar period based on the Lutsk Chamber of Crafts. It was established that in the interwar period in Poland, a fairly thorough legislative framework was developed to regulate all spheres of craft and craft production. A fairly large number of craftsmen of various specialties worked in the city of Rivne. The complicated procedure for obtaining a craft card – the main condition for the legal practice of a craft – led to the fact that many craftsmen worked without permits. The development of craft production not only in Rivne but also in the entire Volyn Voivodeship was hindered by such factors as insufficient technical equipment in craft workshops, the manual method of production, an increase in the cost of labor, a low technical level of manufactured products, inefficient organization of the sale of goods, a change in the economic situation and limited support for the craft sector from the Polish authorities. The most common craft specialties in Rivne used cheap local raw materials. These are the specialties of the leather, metal, wood, textile, and service industry groups. Among them are carpenters, tailors, shoemakers, blacksmiths, butchers, bakers, etc. Craft production in Rivne in 1921-1939 was mainly aimed at meeting the needs of the local population and, first of all, the rural. Because the solvency of the rural population was low, artisans received a small profit. The rather difficult situation of Rivne artisans and handicraft production was worsened by such unfavorable conditions as competition from the factory industry, stagnation of the construction movement, and an increase in the number of products produced by factories.

Zusammenfassung Heutzutage stellen Diamanten ein äußerst gefragtes Gut dar, allerdings entwickelten sich die Edelsteine erst im Laufe der Zeit zu dieser absatzstarken Ware. Von den 1890er Jahren bis zum Zweiten Weltkrieg unterlag die Nachfrage nach den Steinen in den USA als weltweit größter Absatzmarkt erheblichen Schwankungen. Um die schwache US-amerikanische Nachfrage anzukurbeln, lancierte der Diamantenproduzent DeBeers zusammen mit der Werbefirma N. W. Ayer ab 1938 großangelegte und aufwändig gestaltete Werbekampagnen. Am Beispiel dieser Werbeanzeigen untersucht und rekonstruiert der Aufsatz die Vermarktung von Brillanten in den USA vom Zweiten Weltkrieg bis in die 1960er Jahre. An den Schnittstellen von Wirtschafts- und Kulturgeschichte angesiedelt, spürt die Untersuchung unter Berücksichtigung geschlechtergeschichtlicher Perspektivierungen den ökonomischen Interessen des DeBeers-Konzerns nach und fragt dabei immer wieder, wie sich die Wahrnehmung von Brillantschmuck im Laufe der Zeit wandelte. In den Werbeanzeigen richtete sich DeBeers zunächst vorrangig an unverheiratete Paare als Konsumenten, berücksichtigte bis in die 1960er Jahre jedoch eine zunehmend größer werdende Klientel. Dennoch achtete das Unternehmen sorgsam darauf, die Illusion des als rar und elitär geltenden Luxusguts zu bewahren und den Markt weiterhin zu regulieren. Letzteres fiel dem Konzern mit der Zeit immer schwerer, da permanent neue Produzenten auf den europäischen Diamantenmarkt drängten. Unter Zuhilfenahme wirtschaftswissenschaftlicher Theoreme rückt der Aufsatz in diesem Zusammenhang auch in den Blick, wie Diamanten allmählich zu einem Massenprodukt wurden, ohne als solches wahrgenommen zu werden.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie życia i działalności naukowej Ireny Grasberg Koprowskiej (1917-2012), polskiej lekarki, pionierki w dziedzinie cytopatologii. Ukończywszy Wydział Lekarski Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego, Koprowska rozpoczęła swoją medyczną karierę na emigracji, po ucieczce z Polski przed niemiecką agresją w 1939 r. Jako młody lekarz początkowo pracowała w laboratorium patologicznym, gdzie samodzielnie przeprowadziła setki autopsji, dochodząc do perfekcji w swoim fachu. W 1949 r. rozpoczęła współpracę z Georgem N. Papanicolaou i zaangażowała się w jego pionierskie działania na rzecz rozwoju cytopatologii oraz metod wczesnej diagnostyki nowotworów. Oprócz tego prowadziła własne badania eksperymentalne nad nowotworami, w szczególności nad rakiem szyjki macicy. Irena Koprowska była współautorką pierwszego na świcie opisu przypadku wykrycia carcinoma in situ w płucu za pomocą oceny rozmazu plwociny. W 1964 r. została pierwszą kobietą mianowaną tytułem profesora zwyczajnego w Hahnemann University w Filadelfii.

The article considers the issue of the Soviet Union’s diplomatic support to the Republic of China at the initial stage of the Sino-Japanese War (1937–1939). It is noted that due to the outbreak of war, the Chinese government received real support neither from the League of Nations nor from the imperialist states since no one wanted to quarrel with Japan. It is emphasised that the leadership of the USSR had repeatedly unsuccessfully tried to negotiate with the imperialist powers on collective action against Japan, including, above all, the sanctions policy. Soviet diplomacy was ready to single-handedly support various foreign policy demarches of the leadership of the Republic of China. The data on numerous speeches by representatives of the USSR in the League of Nations in support of China are given. The active position of Soviet diplomacy during the so-called Brussels Conference is considered; their the Council of the League of Nations delegated the problem of Japanese aggression against China. It is emphasised that during the work of the Brussels conference, the delegations of Western countries demonstrated being uneager to aggravate relations with Japan; they only offered to search for peaceful ways to resolve the conflict, refused to accept collective sanctions against Japan or provide real international assistance to the victim of aggression – China. It is emphasised that Soviet diplomats continuously supported various initiatives of the government of the Chinese Republic in the League of Nations, only to be excluded from this organisation on December 14, 1939, after the USSR started war against Finland.

abstract: In 1939, directly after the worst earthquake in the country's history, the Chilean state began implementing an electrification program. This plan shaped energy goals for years to come and defined the interconnected grid that dominates the country's energy infrastructure today. Based on extensive archival work, this article describes the birth of energopolitics in the country, using technology sociologist Michel Callon's notion of "interessement" to describe the strategies of a group of engineers who acted as system builders. Their four main strategies were embracing technological futurisms, forging heterogeneous networks, articulating and mobilizing knowledge, and using crises as windows of opportunity for change. The article shows not only the historical impact of past energy choices on today's world but also that current challenges to energy transitions are not without precedent. Using a sociological framework to tell this story allows us to highlight the mechanisms through which energy systems can change.

Russlands Überfall auf die Ukraine wurde vom Niedergang der liberalen internationalen Ordnung und von der Schwäche ihrer Führungsmacht USA ermuntert. Vor diesem Hintergrund weckte die von Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz am 27. Februar 2022 verkündete „Zeitenwende“ große Erwartungen. Sie schien als Paradigma für die postliberale Weltordnung geeignet, zumal der Kanzler sie kurz darauf zu einer „Global Zeitenwende“ ausbaute. Unglücklicherweise wird sie ihnen jedoch nicht gerecht. Die Herausforderung besteht nicht darin, eine künftige multipolare Weltordnung zu steuern und der EU darin einen der vorderen Plätze zu sichern. Das drängende Problem besteht vielmehr in dem sich entwickelnden weltumspannenden Systemkonflikt zwischen revisionistisch orientierten Autokratien und Demokratien, die eine regelbasierte internationale Ordnung aufrechterhalten wollen. Der historische Vergleich mit der Zwanzigjährigen Krise von 1919 bis 1939 legt nahe, dass es dazu eines „demokratischen Antirevisionismus“ bedarf.

His scientific studies were published in numerous articles, many of which were co-authored by Turkish geologists. This article was written in memory and appreciation of M. Ozan Sungurlu, who made a great contribution to the field of geology in Türkiye and whose importance to Türkiye is undisputed. M. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the fact that, on the basis of unpublished archival documents, the number of military instructors in educational institutions in Siberia during the Great Patriotic War is studied for the first time. The study ultimately reveals the core issue of the time: the lack of professional military instructors.

abstract: In response to a request by attendees of the 1897 inaugural Hampton Institute Negro Conference, editors of Hampton's central mouthpiece, the Southern Workman (1872–1939), revised the content of the periodical to better serve the needs of rural African American southerners battling exploitative renting, mortgage, and sharecropping systems. This article explores overlooked agricultural literature produced by and for African American readers of the Southern Workman who aspired to landownership and farming, from formerly enslaved subscribers to Hampton's African American students. I examine the agricultural vignettes of Alabama land cooperative leader, John W. Lemon, and the firsthand farming accounts of Oklahoman settlers, S. J. Faver and Logan Morgan. A blending of success stories and advice literature, their writings offer blueprints to struggling and would-be landowners and farmers seeking labor autonomy and economic prosperity. Often dismissed as unprogressive because its focus on manual labor, a closer examination of Hampton's most prominent print platform expands our understanding of how rural southern African Americans in the Jim Crow era harnessed the periodical press to circulate pathways toward realizing racial uplift and cultivating citizenship in ways that were rooted in the land.

По данным зоотехнического учета крупного рогатого скота по Кировской области в период с 1939 по 2022 г. и информационным показателям системы «СЕЛЭКС — Мясной скот» изучены развитие и состояние мясного скотоводства и отмечены факторы, определяющие эффективность производства. В регионе практикуется использование зимне-весенних отелов с выходом телят к отъему до 85 %, родильного отделения и обязательной подкормки концентратами подсосных телят с 4 – 5-го дня жизни. Учитывая опыт работы с мясным скотом в Кировской области, отечественная подотрасль должна базироваться на устойчивом генетическом улучшении стада коров по экономически важным признакам, дальнейшем развитии кормовой базы и реализации крупномасштабных проектов на основе конкурентоспособных мясных пород.

Abstract: In the summer of 1939, the Jewish community in mandatory Palestine was rocked by a terrible case of infanticide: a father was charged in the British Mandatory court with murder, having buried his five-day-old infant son alive. Unlike other crimes of homicide that were discussed in court, in this case the intervention of a scholar after the final verdict had been handed down changed the court’s decision altogether. This paper shows how a forgotten story can serve as a case study for the wider cultural, social, and legal contexts in which it took place. Using an interdisciplinary examination of a specific case, the paper explores the power relations and cultural negotiations between Jewish inhabitants and British officials in Palestine, as well as among Jews of different origins and backgrounds and also within British legal system itself. This examination uncovers the role of European-Jewish orientalists in mediating between British authorities and Mizrahi Jews by making efficient use of the changing attitudes of imperial legal high officials toward the colonial subjects. It underlines a unique trait of Jewish academic orientalism: integrating into a Jewish-national society involved previously unfamiliar duties that had to do with the overall Zionist social initiative.

The factors that influenced the decision-making to change it towards indigenization have been identified. The quantitative and qualitative composition of easterners and local personnel is analyzed.

The article focuses on the issue of personal exchange in the relations between the BSSR and Poland in 1921-1939. It is emphasized that after the conclusion of the Riga Peace Treaty, the issues of bilateral population exchange were dealt with by a specially created Joint Commission for Repatriation with centers in Warsaw and Moscow. In August 1924, the issue of personal became part of diplomatic relations between Poland and the USSR. In particular the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Poland and Bureau under the Central Committee of the RCP (b)-Central Committee of the All-Russian Communist Party (b) began to deal with the problems of repatriation. Attempts were also made to effect an exchange of prisoners through the military authorities. It is indicated that according to the “Treaty on personal exchange between Poland, Russia (Belarus) and Ukraine” concluded in march 1923, the implementation of the largest number of persons subject to personal exchange between the parties was envisaged.

ObjectiveTo compare the neurodevelopmental outcomes of preterm infants before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.DesignPremature infants born in 2018 were assigned to the pre-pandemic group, while those born in 2019 were assigned to the during-pandemic group.SettingNationwide cohort study.PatientsVery low birthweight premature infants registered in the Taiwan Premature Infant Follow-up Network database.InterventionsAnti-epidemic measures, including quarantine and isolation protocols, social distancing, the closure of public spaces and restrictions on travel and gatherings during COVID-19 pandemic.Main outcome measuresOutcomes were measured by Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development Third Edition at corrected ages of 6, 12 and 24 months old. Generalised estimating equation (GEE) was applied to incorporate all measurements into a single model.ResultsAmong the 1939 premature infants who were enrolled, 985 developed before the pandemic, while 954 developed during the pandemic. Premature infants whose development occurred during the pandemic exhibited better cognitive composite at the corrected age of 6 months (beta=2.358; 95% CI, 1.07 to 3.65; p<0.001), and motor composite at corrected ages of 12 months (beta=1.680; 95% CI, 0.34 to 3.02; p=0.014). GEE analysis showed that infants who had grown during the pandemic achieved higher scores in cognitive composite (beta=1.416; 95% CI, 0.36 to 2.48; p=0.009).ConclusionPremature infants in Taiwan who developed during the pandemic showed better neurodevelopment compared with those born before the pandemic.

Abstract The German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin), the largest institute of its kind in Germany, will celebrate its centenary in 2025. It was founded as the Institute for Business Cycle Research (IfK) on July 16 1925 by Ernst Wagemann, then President of the German Statistical Office. The Institute’s research on the war economy 1939 to 1945 has not yet been examined in a well-founded manner. As the DIW itself does not possess the necessary archival records, the secret studies had first to be made accessible from various archives of the authorities which had requested this research. Only then could the studies and reports which the IfK/DIW had done on the war economy be presented here. With Wagemann losing his dual function as head of the Institute and as President of the German Statistical Office in 1933, the IfK/DIW had no longer a smooth direct access to internal statistics of the Statistical Office. In order to be able to work in an expert capacity, the Institute and its President had to secure their clients’ trust through convincing professional competence. The article elaborates on the Institute’s struggle for the status of vital importance for the war, which awarded a special position compared with other institutes, e.g. in the Reich’s Research Council (Reichsforschungsrat). Wagemann’s skill in presenting his Institute as an indispensable economic research institute certainly contributed to its prominent status. He also asserted and made himself indispensable to the National Socialist system.

The article is devoted to the history of the military utopia genre in the Soviet cinema of the 1920s-1930s. The work analyses its origins, provides an overview and analysis of the main films belonging to this genre, and examines the reasons for its decline. According to the author of the article, this film genre had its origins in the military-utopian genre in literature, which declared itself in the second half of the 19th century. The genre appeared to be directly dependent on the political situation in the country and the nature of the military threat. Thus, the understanding that World War I would be followed by a new war was reflected in many works of Soviet writers and filmmakers who developed this genre. Its peak was in the second half of the 1930s. The genre was based on the postulate that the enemy was not asleep, there would definitely be a war, and therefore it was necessary to prepare for it. In addition to this general concept, the audience was shown the likely course of a future war: after the harsh suppression of enemy aggression on the USSR territory, the fighting would move to the enemy’s territory. The enemy who first attacked the USSR would be thrown back in the shortest possible time, and then with the help of the oppressed people of a foreign country, the government would be brought down and the socialist system would be established. 1939 appeared to be the last year for the release of military utopias, for which there were several reasons. The first was the signing of the Molotov — Ribbentrop Pact. The second reason was the beginning of actual hostilities at Khalkhin Gol and Lake Khasan, which showed a far from rosy picture regarding the combat state of the Soviet troops and the weakness of the enemy. The Winter War with Finland in 1939 put an end to optimistic military fantasies.

Під час повномасштабної війни, розпочатої російською федерацією проти України у лютому 2022 року, широкого застосування набули новітні зразки озброєння та військової техніки, засоби ураження, вперше в історії війн протиборчі сторони масовано використовували безпілотні авіаційні комплекси (безпілотні літальні апарати) та різноманітні дрони — повітряні, наземні, надводні, підводні, у тому числі ударні й дрони-камікадзе. Виникла нагальна необхідність вивчення, узагальнення та впровадження досвіду їх застосування, а також захисту від подібних засобів ураження противника. Незважаючи на наявність каналів комунікації, що сприяють швидкому обміну інформацією та досвідом між військовослужбовцями зокрема та підрозділами у цілому, існує нагальна необхідність створення у Збройних Силах України системи збору, узагальнення, вивчення бойового досвіду та впровадження його в діяльність військ (сил). Це, у свою чергу, потребує врахування історії попередніх війн і збройних конфліктів, зокрема Другої світової війни, на прикладі побудови системи узагальнення бойового досвіду і доведення його до військ у Червоній армії.
