Abstract:
Статья посвящена истории написания «Очерков древней истории Украинской ССР» – первой обобщающей работы, подготовленной сотрудниками киевского Института археологии АН УССР. Начатая в 1948 году и запланированная на два года, она затянулась на восемь лет, сама же книга была издана только в 1957. Тексты несколько раз переделывались, иногда писались заново уже другими авторами. Поэтому можно выделить несколько этапов создания книги: 1948–1950 – первоначальная подготовка текстов; 1951–1952 – первое исправление, связанное с выходом статьи И.В. Сталина; 1953–1955 – полная переделка работы, обусловленная сменой концепции в сторону большей историчности. Это также повлекло изменения и в структуре издания. Помимо влияния политики ещё одной причиной задержки стали просчёты руководства ИА АН УССР в организации работы. Библиографические ссылки Абашина Н.С., Колесникова В.А. Abstract:
Concepción Bonet Muñoz (1916-2014) fue la primera mujer que se incorporó a la geología profesional y, además contribuyó en la implementación de la fotogeología en España. Cursó Ciencias Naturales en Madrid, graduándose en 1943. Se dedicó a la enseñanza, y en 1950 obtuvo una beca del CSIC para especializarse como paleontóloga. Entre 1953 y 1954, realizó una estancia en la Universidad de Heerlen (Holanda) para estudiar las megasporas carboníferas. Defendió su Tesis Doctoral en 1955. Entre 1954 y 1956 dió clases en la Facultad de Ciencias Naturales. Se especializó en Fotogeología y entre 1956 y 1973 impartió clases de fotogeología. En 1957 ingresó en la Junta de Energía Nuclear, dónde creó el Departamento de Fotogeología y realizó varias estancias de especialización en el extranjero. En 1964 entró en la Dirección General de Carreteras del Ministerio de Obras Públicas, donde permaneció hasta que se jubiló en 1984. Trabajó en el desarrollo del Plan General de Carreteras y participó en los Estudios Geológicos Previos de las principales carreteras, donde influyó en la metodología de trabajo, incluyendo los fotoplanos geológicos como herramienta fundamental de trabajo, tanto por su aportación al conocimiento de la geomorfología como por su utilidad para buscar materias primas para la obra pública.

Abstract:
Long-term variability of the cold subsurface water (CSW) in the Okhotsk Sea is analyzed on the base of all available oceanographic data collected in March through August of 1946-2015 (total 65,742 stations). The Integral Heat Content (IHC) is calculated for each station and average annual IHC anomalies of the cold subsurface water are determined by month and by 2-degree grid. The IHC anomaly series are analyzed using the EOF analysis. Cycles with period of approximately 30 years are revealed in the variations of the subsurface layer heat content. Thus, in the 1946-1950, its temperature decreased, but it grew since 2009-2010 to 2015. The warming of CSW was also observed in the 1951-1964 and 1978-1994, while the cooling was in the 1965-1977 and 1995-2008. Based on this criterion, the CSW thermal condition in certain years is classified as «extremely cold» in 2001, as «cold» in 1949, 1950, 1951, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1966, 1967, 1969, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1999, 2000, 2010, 2012, as «normal» in 1946, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1957, 1961, 1962, 1965, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1975, 1979, 1982, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, as «warm» in 1948, 1956, 1964, 1968, 1974, 1981, 1984, 1987, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1997, 2015, and as «extremely warm» in 1963. Statistically significant correlation is found between changes of the CSW thermal conditions and long-term variations of atmosphere and ocean climate indices, as well as local patterns of the atmosphere-ice-ocean interaction in the Okhotsk Sea and adjacent onshore and offshore areas of Asia and the Pacific Ocean.

(Ernesto Juan Fonfrias, “Guatemala: un pueblo triste,” Diario de Centro América, Sept. 1, 1950.)Fonfrias’ assessment of Guatemala in 1950 contains important clues to understanding the “revolution” from 1944 to 1954 and its overthrow. The revolution has been extensively studied; but most works have concentrated on American involvement in the overthrow of the government of Jacobo Arbenz Guzmán in 1954 and have thus only provided us with limited views of the various conflicts that developed during the two revolutionary administrations (Juan José Arévalo, 1944-51, and Arbenz, 1951-54). This has most certainly been the case with studies of rural Guatemala during the revolution. Despite the importance of the agrarian reform initiated in 1952, the reform and the conflicts that it fostered are not clearly understood. Recent research has suggested, however, that the tensions were more complex and more deeply rooted in Guatemala's rural history than earlier works had indicated.

Abstract:
W artykule opisany został jeden ze słabiej znanych epizodów w pisarskiej biografii Tadeusza Różewicza. Poeta, którego miejsce w hierarchii artystycznej epoki było stosunkowo wysokie, w latach stalinizmu zdaje się poszukiwać kompromisu między pełnowartościową twórczością artystyczną a lansowanym przez czynniki oficjalne obrazem doskonałego świata komunistycznej utopii. Wyrazem tego rodzaju tendencji są niektóre wiersze z tomów Pięć poematów (1950), Czas który idzie (1951), Wiersze i obrazy (1952), Równina (1954), Srebrny kłos (1955). Teksty te zostały stosunkowo dobrze opisane, podczas gdy do niedawna niemal nieznane pozostawały krótkie utwory narracyjne, które Różewicz w latach 1952–1953 opublikował na łamach przeznaczonego dla młodzieży pisma „Płomyk”. Opowiadania Towarzysz Marian i Gwiazdy Budapesztu pozostają zasadniczo zgodne z obowiązującą wówczas tendencją socrealistyczną. Pierwsze z nich ukazuje wyidealizowany życiorys jednego z komunistycznych „świętych”, Mariana Buczka – przede wszystkim rzekomo bohaterskie ostatnie dni i godziny jego życia (Buczek ginie z bronią w ręku, podczas walki z niemieckim okupantem). Gwiazdy Budapesztu to z kolei równie jednowymiarowy obraz cywilizacyjnych, społecznych i technicznych zdobyczy komunizmu na Węgrzech. Autor artykułu podejmuje próbę analizy tych tekstów oraz ujrzenia ich na tle życia publicznego Polskiej Rzeczypospolitej Ludowej lat stalinizmu.

The article is devoted to the famous scientist-surveyor, mining engineer and cartographer, a captain of the geodetic detachment, Kliment Aleksandrovich Zvonarev (1902–1986). K. A. Zvonarev went from a student of the Leningrad Mining Institute (graduated in 1928) to Doctor of Technology (1953) and professor (1954). From 1929 to 1957 he taught at the Leningrad Mining Institute (since 1935 – associate professor, since 1954 – professor), in the period of 1957–1978 he headed the Department of Cartography in Leningrad State University. Participant of the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945. He served in the engineering units of the Leningrad, Volkhov and Karelian fronts as the topographic department head’s assistant, military engineer and engineer-captain of the geodetic service. He was awarded the Order of the Red Star (1942), Badge of Honor (1948), medals For the Defense of Leningrad (1943), For the Victory over Germany (1946), For Labor Valor (1950), In Memory of the 250th Anniversary of Leningrad (1957), 20 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (1966). The authors provide information on working, the main scientific achievements and recollections by Kliment Alexandrovich about his participation in battles.

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to examine the Anglo-Thai relations during the period between 1945-1954, with special reference to the diplomatic, political and security aspects. This thesis begins with the discussion on the Anglo-Thai peace negotiations for the settlement of war between the two countries leading to the signing of the Anglo-Thai Formal Agreement on January 1, 1946. I end the thesis at 1954 because, by the end of the year, Thailand had succeeded in fashioning itself as the bastion of Western defence in Southeast Asia. Chapter Two and Three examine the Anglo-Thai relations before and after the November coup of 1947 and the subsequent return of Pibul Songgram to office in April 1948. As always the case in international politics, after an unusual change of government, the question of recognition will be discussed in details. The subsequent chapters deal with the Malayan-Thai border relations. Chapter Four and Five examine the development of the Malay unrest in South Thailand in the context of the Anglo-Thai relations. The outbreak of the Communist insurgency in Malaya in mid-1948 had further complicated the situation along the Malayan-Thai border. Chapter Six examines early border collaboration to suppress the Malayan Communists along their common border. Chapter Seven examines the practicalities of the Anglo-Thai Border collaboration with special reference to the Malayan-Thai Police Border Agreement of September 1949. Chapter Seven and Eight focus on Indochina crisis and the Anglo-Thai response to the Viet Minh invasion of Laos and the Thai's appeal to the Security Council. The last chapter deals with the formation of SEATO. In her search for security against Communist threat, Thailand joined SEATO in September 1954. This thesis concludes with a summing up on the Anglo-Thai relations during the 1945-1954 period. This work is based mainly on the British Colonial Office, Foreign Office and the US State Department Records and personal papers of Tengku Mahmood Hahyideen, Tengku Abdul Jalal and Miss Barbara Whittingham-Jones.

Abstract:
Swedish postwar aid to Germany from 1945 to 1954 is described and analyzed, especially as an expression of Swedish attitudes developed over a long period of societal evolution. As early as 1943/44 both Swedish voluntary agencies and the Swedish government began to plan program of postwar aid to Germany. Older and more recent attitudes to Germany, the views of Germans living in exile in Sweden and the intentions of the Western allies toward a conquered Germany were central in determining the nature and scope of Swedish aid. Programs incorporated the values of traditional Christian charity, secularized philanthropy and applied methods developed for emergency aid abroad and for social assistance at home. The new concept of the welfare state, strong in Sweden at the time, led to aid also being aimed toward long-term socio-political goals. Children, young people, mothers, refugees, displaced persons and what was regarded as the German elite were the main recipients of various aid efforts. In the atmosphere of the Cold War, aid came to be increasingly directed to West Germany. Postwar aid, with Germany as the main non-Scandinavian recipient, was Sweden's first experience as a long-term aid donor. While the efforts of voluntary agencies were concen­trated abroad, the Swedish welfare state developed rapidly at home, leaving no room for privately sponsored social work. Even after 1950/54, therefore, the work of Swedish voluntary agencies was directed at needs abroad, mainly to so-called undeveloped countries outside Europe. The premises underlying such aid and its contents were largely the same as for postwar aid to Germany.

Abstract:
Ngauruhoe is an active basaltic andesite to andesite composite cone volcano at the southern end of the Tongariro volcanic complex, and most recently erupted in 1954-55 and 1974-75. These eruptions constructed the inner crater of Ngauruhoe, largely composed of 1954-55 deposits, which are the basis of this study. The inner crater stratigraphy, exposed on the southern wall, is divided into seven lithostratigraphic units (A to G), while the northern stratigraphy is obscured by the inward collapse of the crater rim. The units are, from oldest to youngest: Unit A, (17.5 m thick), a densely agglutinated spatter deposit with sharp clast outlines; Unit B, (11.2 m) a thick scoria lapilli deposit with local agglutination and scattered spatter bombs up to 1 m in length; Unit C, (6.4 m thick) a clastogenic lava deposit with lateral variations in agglutination; and Unit D, (10 m thick) a scoria lapilli with varying local agglutination. The overlying Unit E (15 cm thick) is a fine ash fallout bed that represents the final vulcanian phase of the 1954-55 eruption. Unit F is a series of six lapilli and ash beds that represent the early vulcanian episode of the 1974-75 eruption. The uppermost Unit G (averaging 10 m thick) is a densely agglutinated spatter deposit that represents the later strombolian phase of the 1974-75 eruption. Units A-D juvenile clasts are porphyritic, with phenocrysts of plagioclase, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, minor olivine, within a microlitic glassy groundmass. Quartzose and greywacke xenoliths are common in most units, and are derived from the underlying basement. The 1954-55 and 1974-75 eruptions are a product of a short-lived, continental arc medium-K calc-alkaline magma. The magma originated from the mantle, then filtered through the crust, undergoing assimilation and fractionation, and evolving to basaltic andesite and andesite compositions. The magma body stagnated in shallow reservoirs where it underwent further crustal assimilation and fractionation of plagioclase and olivine, and homogenisation through magma mixing. Prior to the 1954-55 eruption a more primitive magma body was incorporated into the melt. The melt homogenised and fed both the 1954-55 and 1974-75 eruptions, with a residence time of at least 20 years. The 1954-55 eruption produced alternating basaltic andesite and andesite strombolian activity and more intense fire fountaining, erupting scoria and spatter that built up the bulk of the inner crater. A period of relative quiescence allowed the formation of a cooled, solid cap rock that resulted in the accumulation of pressure due to volatile exsolution and bubble coalescence. The fracturing of the cap rock then resulted in a vulcanian eruption, depositing a thin layer of fine ash and ballistic blocks. The 1974-75 eruption commenced with the rupturing of the near-solid cap rock from the 1954-55 eruption in an explosive vulcanian blast, the result of decompressional volatile exsolution and bubble coalescence, and possible magma-water interaction. The eruption later changed to strombolian style, producing a clastogenic lava that partially flowed back into the crater.

Uppsatsen bygger på den vandringsdagbok som skrevs under 1952-1954 av 24 nyutexaminerade småskollärarinnor från Norrköpings småskoleseminarium. De hade enats om att skriva brev i dagboksform omfattande tre sidor brevtext och sedan låta boken cirkulera runt till samtliga författare. Boken skulle i första hand spegla deras arbete som lärarinnor och viktiga delar av deras privatliv. För några år sedan skänktes böckerna, 23 av 25, till Arbetets museum i Norrköping. Jag har tagit del av breven som omfattar lärarinnornas första arbetsår och försökt analysera deras arbete, privatliv, föreningsliv och deras hemligheter som det speglas i vandringsdagboken. De flesta anställdes bara på korta vikariat. En tredjedel förlovade eller gifte sig under det första året och några födde barn. Umgänget bestod av nya kolleger och av kontakt med gamla vänner från seminarietiden. De intresserade sig mycket litet för aktuella politiska, kulturella eller sociala problem. Vissa frågor, privata eller i skolan, behandlas inte i brevtexterna.
My essay is a result of an investigation of letters written in a diary between 1952 and 1954 by 24 primary school teachers who had just finished their final exam in the College of Education in Norrköping, Sweden during the summer of 1952. They had promised each other to write letters of three pages in a diary and to let the book circulate between all the participators. The letters should include the experience of their work as schoolteachers but also important parts of their private lives. The books, 23 of 25 in all, were donated to the Arbetets museum in Norrköping a few years ago. I have read the letters and made an effort to analyse their educational work, their private lives, their community activities and their secrets as found in the texts of the diary. The teachers were employed for some months or for one or two terms. One third of them was engaged or married during the first year and a few gave birth to children. Their intimate friends consisted of schoolteachers but they also kept contact with their old acquaintances from the College of Education. They took little interest in the political, cultural or social problems during the period I have studied. Certain questions of private nature were not discussed in the diary letters.

Tačiau I. Šeiniaus diplomatinė veikla iki šiol nėra susilaukusi platesnių tyrinėjimų. Greičiausiai viena iš šių tyrinėjimų stokos priežasčių yra tai, kad I. Šeiniaus archyvai ilgai buvo saugomi Švedijoje, ne Lietuvoje. 2011 m. įvykęs jų pargabenimas į Lietuvą sąlygojo naujų istoriografinių tyrinėjimų apie šio diplomato veiklą atsiradimą. Taigi šio darbo tikslas yra išnagrinėti I. Šeiniaus diplomatinę veiklą Švedijoje 1954-1959 m. Didžioji dalis duomenų paimti iš LCVA saugomo I. Šeiniaus fondo 675. Prisijungti prie LDT 1954 m. I. Šeinius buvo paprašytas Stasio Lozoraičio, buvusiam Lietuvos atstovui Švedijoje Vladui Žilinskui išvykus į JAV. Visą atstovavimo laikotarpį I. Ignas Scheynius – the diplomat, represented Lithuania in interwar period, after 1927 years he suspended that activity, but after Lithuanian occupation came back and attached to Lithuanian Diplomatic Servise (LDS), where he, together with others members of LDS, raised Lithuanian liberation case and represented Lithuanian name to the West countries. But I. Scheynius diplomatic activity was not explored very widely. Possibly, the one reason of the lack of that kind researches is that the archives of I. Scheynius long time were kept in Sweden, not in Lithuania. In 2011 they were brought to Lithuania and that caused the appearance of new historiography researches about I. Scheynius diplomatic activity. Therefore the aim of this paper is to investigate the diplomatic activity of I. Scheynius in 1954-1959 years. To reach the aim was analysed the documents of I. Scheynius activity saved in Office of the Chief Archivist of Lithuania, number of fund 675. To join to LDS in 1954 I. Scheynius was asked by LDS chief Stasys Lozoraitis, after the last representative in Sweden V. Žilinskas moved to USA. All the time of his agency I. Louis Aragon en est l'acteur principal, c'est lui qui, dès le congrès fondateur de l'Union des écrivains soviétiques en 1934, engage le pari d'en inventer une traduction adaptée à l'héritage littéraire et au contexte social de la France. De 1934 à 1939, il n'est pas entendu, mais il écrit les premiers romans du "Monde Réel". La référence au réalisme socialiste s'estompe entre 1939 et 1947, mais des écrivains communistes donnent des œuvres engagées, poèmes de la Résistance, puis romans militants. C'est dans le contexte de l'affrontement idéologique de la guerre froide et du jdanovisme que s'écrit, de 1947 à 1954, une abondante "littérature de parti", sous le signe du réalisme socialiste. This thesis deals with the French transposition of Socialist Realism, from the double perspective of speech and literary production. Louis Aragon is the main actor of this movement. Already during the establishing Congress of the Union of Soviet Writers in 1934, he took the challenge of inventing a translation of Socialist Realism, which would match the French literary heritage and social context. His call remained unheard from 1934 to 1939, however he wrote the first novels of "Le Monde Réel". Between 1939 and 1947, his reference to Socialist Realism faded away, while other communist writers produced militant pieces of work, first poems on the Resistance, then militant novels. The Cold War's ideological confrontation and the Jdanovism period were the most fruitful time for the production of "party literature", under the auspices of Socialist Realism. The three major pieces of work from this period are the romanesque cycles by Pierre Daix's Classe 42, Andre Stil's Le Premier Choc and Aragon's Les Communistes

Abstract William Werner Boone (1920-1983) was a logician whose research centered on algebraic decision problems, particularly in group theory. He received his doctorate from Princeton University in 1952, and in 1954-1956 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study, where he got to know Gödel. During this period, he was occupied with the word problem for groups, and in 1956 he achieved his goal of constructing a finitely presented group whose word problem is undecidable (Boone 1957 and 1957a). The same result was obtained independently, by a different construction, slightly earlier, by P. S. Novikov (Novikov 1955). Consequently, the recursive undecidability of the word problem for groups is often called the Boone-Novikov theorem. Over the next few years, Boone worked at improving and refining his proof; the end product was the long paper Boone 1959. In 1958 Boone joined the mathematics department of the University of Illinois, becoming professor in 1960. He remained on the faculty there until his death. Boone had a second two-year stint at the Institute for Advanced Study in 1964-1966.

The article describes the oppositional literary critical periodicals in the Slovenian language, published during the 1950-1990s in the Republic of Slovenia and out-side of it, in areas where the Slovenian diasporas are concentrated - in Argentina and Italy. From the pages of several publications: Ljubljana magazines Beseda (1952-1957), Revija 57 (1957-1958), Perspektive (1960-1964), Nova revija (1982-2010), Buenos Aires magazine Meddobje (since 1954) and the Trieste magazine Zaliv (1966-1990) has openly sounded criticism of socialist ideology and ethics, which had a significant impact on the socio-political consciousness of Slovenian citizens and contributed to the growth of protest moods in the republic.

Esta profunda transformación puede ser explicada a partir de dos líneas paralelas: por un lado por las declaraciones de intenciones o manifiestos que surgen en oposición a los sistemas cerrados y por otra por las influencias de las teorías científicas de la época. Seis manifiestos con una cierta condición interdisciplinar, debido a su contagio con campos como la biología, la química, la cibernética o la autoorganización, cambiarán el rumbo de este nuevo urbanismo emergente: el Manifiesto de Doorn (1954), el Manifiesto de la Open Form de Oskar Hansen (1959), los Principios de la Urbanismo Móvil de Yona Friedman (1959), el Manifiesto Metabolista (1960), la arquitectura aditiva de Jorn Utzon (1958-1970) y finalmente el provocativo manifiesto-experimento "Non-Plan: An Experiment in Freedom" de Paul Barker, Peter Hall, Reyner Banham y Cedric Price. During a vivid period of fifteen years between 1954 and 1969, there’s a paradigm shift from conservative models defined by the modern movement to self-organizing systems. Two parallel lines can explain this profound transformation: on one side, by the statements or manifestos in opposition to closed systems and, on the other, by the influences of scientific theories at the time. Abstract:
This article is devoted to the reflection of the fate of museum-estates during the Great Patriotic War in the prose of K.G. Paustovsky. The study is made on the material of the essays “The Guardian” (1946), “The Wind of Speed” (1954; published in 1955) and the novel «Smoke of the Fatherland» (1944, published in 1964). These works are considered in the context of the “manor topos”, one of the modifications of which is represented by the manor museum. Describing the dramatic pages of the history of museum-estates, Paustovsky often relied on real facts, for example, “Smoke of the Fatherland” and “The Wind of Speed” reflect the period of occupation of the Pushkin Reserve (1941-1944). The museum-estate in Paustovsky's prose simultaneously opposes the destructive chaos of war and is a symbol of Russian culture, for the sake of which the heroes are ready to sacrifice themselves.

Abstract:
In order to investigate the habitat of the strictly protected species Umbra krameria, in the localities that should enter the new boundaries of the reserve, during 2023, an inventory and composition of flora and vegetation was made. The focus of these researches are macrophytic species. Five canals were processed (the properties Bela ćuprija; Ulmi duđ; Gradska šuma; Crna bara and Ćinkina ćuprija). A total of 42 species of plants were recorded, where cosmopolitan eurivalent species dominate. Important species are the rarer species Sparganium erectum ssp.neglectum and the strictly protected species Thelypteris palustris (Lolalita Crna bara). Of the total number of plants present, four species are non- native with an invasive character (Amorpha fruticose, Aster lanceolatum, Cyperus odoratus and Populus euroamericana). A total of 15 vegetation communities were recorded, seven of which were aquatic (Lemna minoris-Spirodeletum polyrrhizae W. Koch 1954; Lemnetum trisulca Knapp et. Stoffers 1962; Ceratophyllo-Hydrocharietum morsis-ranae Pop 1962; Ceratophylletum demersi (Soó 1927) Hild 1934); Lemno-Utricularietum Soò 1928; Myriophyllum spicatum-Ceratophylletum demersi; Lemnetum trisulcae Knapp et Stoffers 1962), ssp. schoenoplectosum Soò1957; ssp. phragmitetum W.Koch 1956; Thelyptero- Phragmito-Salicetum cinereae M. Abstract:
Ilmatieteen laitoksen Nurmijärven geofysiikan observatorio aloitti toimintansa syksyllä 1952. Observatorion päätehtävä oli ylläpitää jatkuvia magneettisia rekisteröintejä muualla Suomessa tehtävien magneettisten kartoitustöiden tueksi. Ilmatieteen laitoksen johdolla tehty magneettinen kartoitustyö saatiin päätökseen vuonna 1930, mutta yli kaksikymmentä vuotta myöhemmin tarvittiin magneettisen kartta-aineiston päivitys. Työhön saatiin Sodankylän geofysiikan observatorion johtaja Eyvind Sucksdorff (1899–1955) vuonna 1945. Sucksdorff oli jättänyt Sodankylän observatorion sen tuhouduttua Lapin sodassa 1944. Hänet nimitettiin Ilmatieteen laitoksen geofyysikon virkaan. Eyvind Sucksdorff aloitti kartoitustyöhön tarvittavat magneettiset maastomittaukset vuonna 1946 ja samaan alkoi myös Nurmijärven observatorion suunnittelu. Observatorion havaintorakennukset saatiin valmiiksi 1951 ja ensimmäinen kokonainen havaintovuosi oli 1953. Magneettisten rekisteröintien ohella observatorio oli Ilmatieteen laitoksen sääasema. Eyvind Sucksdorffin työt magnetismin alalla jäivät kesken, kun hän kuoli yllättäen vuonna 1955. Töiden jatkajaksi tuli Eyvindin poika Christian (1928–2016). Nurmijärven observatorion havaintojen ylläpito saatiin vakinaisemmalle kannalle, kun observatorioon saatiin pysyvää henkilökuntaa ja päärakennus toimisto- ja asuintilaksi. Observatorion paikallisjohtajaksi nimitettiin FM Matti Kivinen (1924–2010) vuonna 1957. Hänen johtajakautensa kesti vuoteen 1988 saakka. Kivisen jälkeen observatorion johtajuutta hoiti FT Kari Pajunpää (1956–2022) vuoteen 2018 saakka. Kansainvälisen Geofysiikan vuoden (IGY, 1957–1958) aikana Nurmijärven observatorion havaintotoiminta laajeni, kun sinne perustettiin Posti- ja lennätinhallituksen ionosondi ionosfäärin luotauksiin kaukomaille suunnattujen radiolähetyksien tueksi. Luotaukset jatkuivat vuoteen 1987 saakka. Vuonna 1961 Helsingin yliopisto perusti observatorion alueelle seismologisen havaintoaseman osana maailmanlaajuista maanjäristyksien havaintoverkkoa. IGY:n aikana Ilmatieteen laitos käynnisti revontulien valokuvausrekisteröinnit usealla asemalla Lapissa. Revontulikuvaukset jatkuvat edelleen uudemman sukupolven kameroilla. Vuonna 1959 observatoriossa aloitettiin ilma- ja sadevesinäytteiden radioaktiivisuuksien analysointi, kun ilmakehässä suurvaltojen toimesta tehtyjen ydinräjähteiden jäljiltä radioaktiivisen säteilyn määrä oli kohoamassa maassammekin selvästi yli luonnollisen tason. Ilmatieteen laitos piti osaltaan yllä säteilyn valvontaan liittyviä mittauksia ja tutkimusta. Toiminnan alkuaikoina pääosan radioaktiivisuuteen liittyvistä töistä teki FM Rolf Mattsson (1933–). 1960- ja 1970-luvuilla Nurmijärven observatorion operatiiviselle vastuulle perustettiin useita eri maiden rahoittamia havaintolaitteita. Tärkeitä toimijoita olivat Saksan Max-Planck-Instituutti ja Alaskan yliopisto. Edellinen ionosfääriluotaimen kautta ja jälkimmäinen magneettisten pulsaatioiden osalta. Yhteistyö Oulun yliopiston ja Sodankylän geofysiikan observatorion kanssa oli tiivistä. 1970-luvulta lähtien käynnistyi havainto- ja rekisteröintijärjestelmien automatisointi ja siirtyminen digitaalisiin laitteisiin. Observatorion alkuajoista lähtien toimineet analogiset magneettiset rekisteröinnit uusittiin moderneilla digitaalisilla laitteilla 1990-luvulla, jolloin valokuvausperiaatteella toimineet rekisteröinnit voitiin lopettaa. Magneettiset absoluutti-instrumentit korvattiin samoihin aikoihin uusilla ajanmukaisilla laitteilla. Samoja magnetometrejä hankittiin myös magnetometriverkon IMAGE käyttöön eri puolilla Suomea. Nurmijärven magneettiset rekisteröinnit liitettiin vuonna 1991 kansainväliseen INTERMAGNET-verkkoon, jolloin observatorion magneettiset datat ovat reaaliajassa käytettävissä maailmalla esimerkiksi avaruussään monitorointiin. Magnetismin alalla uutena toimintamuotona käynnistyi 1990-luvulla magneettinen testilaboratorio, missä voitiin kalibroida erilaisia magneettikenttää mittavia laitteita. Laboratorio erikoistui myös avaruuteen lähetettävien mittalaitteiden magneettisen puhtauden määrityksiin. Työtä tehtiin muun muassa yhdessä ukrainalaisen avaruustutkimuslaitoksen kanssa. Magneettinen testilaboratorio akkreditoitiin (MIKES) vuonna 2007, mutta sen toiminta on keskeytynyt. Kaikkiaan Nurmijärven observatoriossa on ollut toiminnassa 15 erilaista geofysikaalista rekisteröintijärjestelmää. Niistä osa on ollut ulkomaisten yhteistyötahojen havaintolaitteistoja, mutta merkittävä yhteistyökumppani havaintojen alalla on ollut Sodankylän geofysiikan observatorio. Nurmijärven observatorion rekisteröintien automatisointi ja havaintojen liittäminen tietoliikenneverkkoihin vähensi tarvetta ylläpitää observatoriolla vakinaista henkilökuntaa, koska tarvittavat huoltotoimet ja mittaukset voidaan pääasiassa tehdä Helsingistä käsin. Samalla tarpeettomiksi käyneet asuinrakennukset ja käytöstä poistuneet vanhentuneet mittauskopit voitiin purkaa.

Abstract:
This paper identifies subjective well-being trajectories through happiness measures as influenced by time, socio-economic, demographic and behavioural determinants. Hierarchical age-period-cohort models are applied to European Social Survey (2002–2016) data on the population aged 30 and older in 10 countries. A U-shaped relationship between age and happiness is found for some countries, but a rather flat pattern and considerable diversity beyond age 80 are detected for other countries. Lower happiness levels are found for baby boomers (1945–1964) than for preboomers and post-boomers, and also for late boomers (1955–1964) than for early boomers (1945–1954). Women, highly educated and native people are shown to have higher happiness levels than men, less educated and non-native people, respectively. Moreover, a positive assessment of income, having a partner, and being a parent, in good health, employed and socially active are all found to have a positive impact on happiness levels. We find evidence of gaps in happiness levels due to differences in socio-economic characteristics over the life course in some, but not in all of the countries analysed.

Abstract:
This paper characterizes the evolution of Paraguay's policymaking process (PMP) between 1954 and 2003. The authors present an overview of the PMP under the rule of Alfredo Stroessner (1954-89) and explore the institutional setting emerging after 1989. In addition, they discuss how the Colorado Party progressively broke up into several factions and characterize the distinctive patterns of policymaking that emerged after the adoption of the 1992 Constitution. The authors hypothesize that the presence of a large number of veto players has made policy change more difficult and that legislators are inclined to pursue particularistic policies. In order to test those hypotheses, they rely on a database containing virtually every bill introduced in Congress since April 1992. The conclusions suggest that the current Paraguayan PMP may be flexible for the provision of particularistic benefits but is rigid for the approval of broad regulatory or redistributive policies.
