En 2005, l’ARMuQ/SQRM fêtait son 25e anniversaire d’existence. Répondant aux questions de la rédactrice en chef des présents Cahiers, Sylvia L’Écuyer, l’auteure expose d’abord les motifs qui ont poussé les membres fondateurs à créer ce qui s’appelait alors l’Association pour l’avancement de la recherche en musique du Québec (ARMuQ). Cette section est suivie d’un aperçu des différentes phases de l’évolution de l’association. Enfin, dans une troisième section intitulée « Problématiques et souhaits d’avenir », Louise Bail tente de dégager très brièvement les liens que l’ARMuQ/SQRM a développés avec les institutions d’enseignement supérieur et de circonscrire la place que prennent les chercheurs indépendants au sein de l’organisme. Son propos s’emploie à faire ressortir les problèmes particuliers que posent le fonctionnement et l’existence d’une telle association. Enfin, elle propose des réflexions et suggère quelques pistes d’avenir à partir de son implication en tant que membre fondateur, membre régulier et présidente sortante du conseil d’administration.

Abstract:
A expansão urbana no município de Pato Branco no Paraná tem ocorrido de forma desordenada. Para melhor diagnosticar essa expansão entre os anos de 1980 e 2016, realizou-se um estudo do comportamento da vegetação do município por meio do uso de mosaico de fotografias aéreas (1980), imagens de satélite QuickBird (2005) e Pleiades (2016). Utilizando-se conjunto de dados e análise multitemporal foi possível realizar o mapeamento da cobertura vegetal do município ao longo do tempo, gerando informações que podem subsidiar o planejamento. Os resultados da pesquisa indicaram que a área da cobertura vegetal do município de Pato Branco não reduziu entre os anos de 1980 e 2005. Em 1980 havia uma cobertura 20% (11,68 km²) da área total urbana, em 2005 este índice passou para 26,7% (15,55 km²), e no ano de 2016 o índice decaiu em 2,37% passando para 24,33% (14,17 km²). Em todos os períodos analisados o ICV, ficou abaixo do recomendável que é em torno de 30%. As dificuldades enfrentadas para o avanço da cobertura vegetal do município de Pato Branco e consequentemente dos ICV entre 1980 e 2016, podem ser explicadas pelo elevado crescimento populacional do Município, o equivalente a 140%.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to describe suicide time trends in Brazil from 1980 to 2005. The data were obtained from the National Mortality Information System and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Suicides rates were calculated for the entire period for the country as a whole and the 26 States and Federal District. Annual increases or decreases in mortality rates were also estimated using Prais-Winsten generalized linear regression. The mean suicide rate was 4.12 per 100,000 inhabitants (6.45/100,000 in men and 1.80/100,000 in women). The study showed an increasing suicide trend in men (+1.41% per year, 95%CI: 1.00;1.23) and a decreasing trend in women (-0.53% per year, 95%CI: -0.04;-1.02). Suicide rates increased with age. In general, for all age groups and for both genders, the highest rates were in São Paulo and in the States of the South and Central-West regions.

Abstract:
Trata-se de um estudo ecológico de tendência temporal, cujo objetivo é verificar a dinâmica populacional conforme os censos de 1980, 1991 e 2000 e o perfil de mortalidade no período entre 1996 e 2005, em Montes Claros (MG). Utilizou-se o banco de dados dos sistemas de informação do Datasus e IBGE. Os principais resultados indicam que o grupo de idosos passou de 4,1% em 1980, 5,0% em 1991, para 6,6% em 2000. Sobre a mortalidade proporcional por causa básica, as doenças do aparelho circulatório foram a primeira causa básica de óbito, sendo 23,05% em 1996 e 28,26% em 2005; seguiram-se as neoplasias, 14,13% em 1996 e 15,69% em 2005, causas externas de morbidade e mortalidade, 11,87% em 1996 e 12,74% em 2005 e doenças infecciosas e parasitárias, 8,42% em 1996 e 5,43% em 2005. O perfil de mortalidade acompanhou a dinâmica populacional do município, observando redução de doenças infecciosas e um aumento das doenças crônicas, compatível com o processo de envelhecimento populacional.

Este trabajo pretende actualizar los atributos del flâneur benjaminiano a la luz de la experiencia estética del urbanismo contemporáneo, marcada por las consecuencias de las políticas urbanísticas neoliberales llevadas a cabo durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX y hasta la actualidad. Las medidas desreguladoras aplicadas sobre el terreno urbano han propiciado la expansión de un paisaje céntrico gentrificado, homogéneo en las ciudades globales, y de una periferia suburbial ocupada por las residencias de la clase media. Mediante el análisis de un compendio de obras paisajísticas producidas entre el año 1980 y el 2005, obras que se encuentran a caballo entre lo documental y lo experimental, este artículo persigue el fin de definir cuáles son los efectos que esta nueva arquitectura produce sobre la psique del paseante urbano moldeado por el neoliberalismo, cuya esencia ya no puede definirse bajo los mismos términos que en primera instancia apuntó Walter Benjamin cuando rescató el arquetipo de Baudelaire hace alrededor de un siglo, puesto que la invasión capitalista de los centros de reunión social ha llegado a cotas insospechadas desde entonces.

AbstractThis paper draws attention to the rapid increase in the number of published articles in medicine devoted to issues of empowerment. While our main aim is to identify populations to which empowerment has been applied, we have also offered a brief overview of the literature. A Medline search was used to identify all articles relating to empowerment published between 1980 and 2005. A total of 4496 articles were identified, but after the deletion of articles with non-human applications (n=409) and those published in languages other than English (n=145), a total of 3942 were reviewed. Based on this review, we present a taxonomy of the literature, based on the primary foci, including patients (n=1742, 44%), providers (n=1162, 29%), and society (n=1038, 27%). Over the study period, we document a rapid increase in the numbers of articles devoted to all three categories, but a significant increase in the proportion of papers devoted to patient empowerment (P < 0.0001). We conclude by juxtaposing some recent European health care policy reforms that have had mixed consequences for the empowerment of patients and argue for a more scientific approach to the study of empowerment.

Abstract:
The article describes the origins, evolution and status of Sotho1 koriana accordion music from the 1920s through the 1960s and 70s when it was considered shebeen music, and from1980 to 2005, when there was a change of attitude towards it and only sporadic production. Two concerns are: the status of koriana music, and, its appreciation by Sotho people themselves. Data was collected through observations, interviews with artists and listeners, and from cassettes, radio and TV programmes. Aspects of the music are described and related to non-musical events of the period.

The time evolution of humidity and temperature above Dome C (Antarctica) has been investigated by considering data from (1) meteorological radiosondes (2005–2017), (2) the microwave radiometer HAMSTRAD (2012–2017), (3) four modern meteorological reanalyses (1980–2017) and (4) the southern annular mode (SAM) index (1980–2017). From these observations (2005–2017), a significant moistening trend (0.08 ± 0.06 kg m−2 dec−1) is associated with a significant warming trend (1.08 ± 0.55 K dec−1) in summer. Conversely, a significant drying trend of −0.04 ± 0.03 kg m−2 dec−1 (−0.05 ± 0.03 kg m−2 dec−1) is associated with a significant cooling trend of −2.4 ± 1.2 K dec−1 (−5.1 ± 2.0 K dec−1) in autumn (winter), with no significant trends in the spring. We demonstrate that 1) the trends identified in the radiosondes (2005–2017) are also present in the reanalyses and 2) the multidecadal variability of integrated water vapor and near-surface temperature (1980–2017) is strongly influenced by variability in the SAM index for all seasons but spring. Our study suggests that the decadal trends observed in humidity and near-surface temperature at Dome C (2005–2017) reflect the multidecadal variability of the atmosphere, and are not indicative of long-term trends that may be related to global climate change.

Abstract:
O câncer oral é responsável por 10% dos casos incidentes de câncer em todo o mundo. O objetivo foi analisar a tendência de mortalidade por câncer de boca e faringe em Juiz de Fora (Minas Gerais) no período 1980-2005. Utilizou-se a série histórica de óbitos do referido município para os anos de 1980 a 2005, período em que estão disponíveis os dados de mortalidade fornecidos pelo Ministério da Saúde. As taxas por ano e sexo foram padronizadas pela população mundial. Os dados de 1989 a 1991 foram obtidos por interpolação. Para o estudo da tendência, optou-se por estimar o modelo de regressão linear simples. Foi identificada tendência à estabilidade das taxas de mortalidade com discreta variação positiva entre os anos 1980 e 2005, com exceção dos tumores de faringe, entre mulheres. O sexo masculino exibiu maiores taxas de mortalidade em todos os anos e localizações, com exceção para os tumores de boca nos dois últimos anos da década de 1980. Os modelos de regressão não foram estatisticamente significativos. Embora tenha sido identificada tendência à estabilidade das taxas, devem ser incrementadas políticas de controle de exposição aos carcinógenos associados a essas localizações anatômicas, em especial o tabaco, e estimulados programas de rastreamento para as populações de risco, com objetivo de aumentar a sobrevida a partir do diagnóstico precoce.

Abstract. With the help of the regional climate model MAR forced by the ERA-Interim reanalysis (MARERA) and the MIROC5 global model (MARMIROC5) from the CMIP5 database, we have modelled the climate and surface mass balance of Svalbard at a 10 km resolution over 1979–2013. The integrated total SMB over Svalbard modelled by MARERA is negative (−1.6 Gt yr−1) with a large interannual variability (7.1 Gt) but, unlike over Greenland, there has been no acceleration of the surface melt over the past 35 years because of the recent change in atmospheric circulation bringing northerly flows in summer over Svalbard, contrasting the recent observed Arctic warming. However, in 2013, the atmospheric circulation changed to a southwesterly flow over Svalbard causing a record of melt, SMB (−20.4 Gt yr−1) and summer temperature. MIROC5 is significantly colder than ERA-Interim over 1980–2005 but MARMIROC5 is able to improve the near-surface MIROC5 results by simulating not significant SMB differences with MARERA over 1980–2005. On the other hand, MIROC5 does not represent the recent atmospheric circulation shift in summer and induces in MARMIROC5 a significant trend of decreasing SMB (−0.6 Gt yr−2) over 1980–2005.

In this paper, We obtain the data of the temporal and spatial dynamic change of land use of three phrases (the end of 1980’s, the end of 1990’s, 2005), and the distribution of the salinized cultivated land use in 2005 in the area of Aletai by using the methods of remote sensing and geography information systems, and carry on the spatial statistics analysis on the change process which reflects the characters of changes of land use in Aletai. The results are as follows within the 5 years from the end of 1990’s to 2005 in Aletai, the areas of grassland and water were obviously reduced, the area of farmlands was significantly enlarged, On the whole other change degrees are smaller than that from the end of 1980’s to the end of 1990’s.

AbstractWe report on changes to the snowpack of Ürümqi glacier No. 1, eastern Tien Shan, China, resulting from climate change between 1961 and 2005. Data from more than 120 snow pits were used to investigate temporal changes in the snow stratigraphy for three periods 1961–62, 1980–83 and 2002–05. Both the thickness and structure of the snow were found to be significantly altered by climatic warming. The proportion of coarse-grained firn, which is usually formed by infiltration water, was found to have increased from 40% to 65% over the period 1961–2005, and the distribution of the glacier zones also changed significantly, with all boundaries moving up-slope. The recrystallization–infiltration zone disappeared in 1989. The mean ablation rate over the melt season increased by ~26% from 1962 to 1980 at the west branch site and by ~75% from 1980 to 2004 at the east branch site.
