Also examined are differences between offenders and non-offenders, what offenses 1984 respondents saw other people as engaging in most often, and who saw other people as least law abiding. From 1955 to 1984, questionnaires were mailed to a large nationally representative sample of mothers to determine the use of various milks for feeding infants during the first 6 months of life. Data from these surveys demonstrated the resurgence of breast-feeding both in incidence and duration through 1982. From 1982 through 1984, these increases continued but at a markedly reduced level.

SUMMARYRotavirus infection was demonstrated in 168 (29·3%) of 573 children hospitalized for acute diarrhoea in Rome between January 1982 and December 1984. Laboratory diagnosis of these infections was made by transmission electron microscopy and enzyme immunoassay techniques with an overall agreement of 91·3%. Astroviruses, adenoviruses and small round viruses were detected in the faeces of 36 patients (6·4%). Whereas in 1982 rotavirus positive patients were clustered in the winter and following spring, in the following years cases were recorded all year round. The median age of patients with

Abstract Several insecticides were evaluated for efficacy in controlling defoliators oi young sycamore plantations in west central Mississippi. Trees were in their second year of growth and ranged from 1.8 to 2.7 m (6-9 ft) in height. Four infested trees were selected at random for each treatment and untreated check. Foliar applications were made using a 7.6 liter handsprayer calibrated at 1.4 kg pressure/cm2 (20 lb/in2) to deliver 102.9 liter finished spray per hectare (11 gal/acre). Complete counts of all defoliator larvae were made for each test tree before treatment. Counts were comparativ

Employing a methodology commonly used to determine the movement of stock returns around a specific event, we examined the movement of common stock returns of acquiring firms in the health care industry for three periods, 1982-1983, 1984, and 1985. We find that in the 1982-1983 period, investors could expect negative excess returns from holding tock in acquiring firms in the health care industry. In contrast, for the 1984 and 1985 periods we find no evidence of excel returns for investors. The difference between the two periods, we believe, is due to the more competitive environment which exist

Abstract Paclobutrazol was applied to soil around 5-year-old ‘Redhaven’ peach [Prunus persica (L.) Batsch] trees at rates of 0, 1.1, 2.2, and 4.4 g a.i./tree in Dec. 1982. Trunk and shoot growth suppression in 1983 were related to application rate, but there was no treatment effect in 1984 or 1985. Yield and fruit size were not influenced in 1983 by treatment, but treated trees produced less fruit than control trees in 1985. Rate of defoliation was negatively related to concentration in 1984, and bloom development was positively related to concentration in 1985 following a single treatment in
