Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the jurisdictional expansion of audit into the area of UK financial regulation. The paper draws on the analytical framework of new audit spaces (Andon et al., 2014, 2015), which built on the concept of regulatory space (Hancher and Moran, 1989), and characterises this new audit space as regulatory work. Design/methodology/approach Through an intensive reading of a variety of publicly available documentary sources, the paper investigates the role of auditors and accountants in the reporting accountants’ and skilled persons’ regimes in the UK under the Banking Act 1987 and the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. Findings The paper identifies a new audit space characterised as regulatory work, which is made up of three distinct phases (and suggests the recent emergence of a fourth phase), and considers the extent to which these phases of regulatory work share common themes across new audit spaces identified by Andon et al. (2015) as independence, reporting, accreditation and mediating. Originality/value The paper identifies a further jurisdictional expansion of audit into a new audit space, characterised as regulatory work.

Abstract:
The growth of television, and in particular television news, has created a challenge in preserving and providing access to the resulting material. At the same time, technology has opened many opportunities to capture this information and make it more widely available. In some ways, it is a race of technology against the speed of content creation. In this paper, we describe a very successful archival project that records, indexes, archives and makes available the totality of the programming of the U.S. based C-SPAN television network, a nonprofit network that telecasts the entirety of the U.S. congressional proceedings, hearings, presidential speeches and other public policy events. As such, it is an archive of unedited primary source events. The use of evolving technology over 25 years has made this archive possible and it exists free on the Internet for world-wide access.

Abstract:
ObjectiveTo report the yearly incidence rate and prevalence of neuromyelitis spectrum disorder (NMOSD) in Sweden and to investigate clinical characteristics, treatment, and outcome.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective study of hospital case records of 294 individuals diagnosed with neuromyelitis optica (NMO) (G36.0 ICD-10, 341.0 ICD-9) in the Swedish National Patient Register from 1987 to end of 2013 or detected by the presence of aquaporin-4 (AQP4) immunoglobulin G (IgG) in serum during the study period. Ninety-two patients (51 NMO and 41 NMOSD) met the 2006 Wingerchuk criteria and were included in the study. Ten patients with an onset of NMO prior to 1987 and alive at the end of 2013 were included when estimating the prevalence.ResultsThe average yearly incidence rate per 1,000,000 individuals increased significantly from 0.30 (confidence interval [CI] 0.19–0.41) between 1987 and 2006 to 0.79 (CI 0.55–1.03) between 2007 and 2013. The prevalence was 10.4 (CI 8.5–12.6) per 1,000,000 individuals at end of 2013. The median time from onset to first relapse was 1.42 years (range 0.58–3.90). The probability of relapse was 60% and 75% after 5 and 10 years after onset. More than 80% were treated with immunosuppressive drugs. Three patients died during the study period.ConclusionThe increased incidence rate during the study period was likely due to heightened awareness and increased access to MRI and AQP4-IgG analysis. Incidence and prevalence of NMO in Sweden correspond to other countries with a predominately Caucasian population. We found that most patients were treated with immunosuppressant drugs, presumably resulting in low mortality among the detected cases.

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the readmission rates due to postoperative hemorrhage in relation to tonsil surgery clinical practice in a national population. Study Design Retrospective longitudinal population-based cohort study. Setting Based on register data from the Swedish National Patient Register (NPR). Subjects and Methods All benign tonsil operations (256 053) performed in Sweden from 1987 to 2013 were identified through a search in the NPR. For all identified cases, data on gender, age, date of surgery, indication, type of surgery, level of care, length of stay (LOS) for inpatient surgery, readmission and reoperation because of postoperative bleeding (within 31 days) were collected. Results Overall frequency of readmission for hemorrhage was 2.61%, and the reoperation rate for hemostasis was 0.84%. The longitudinal analysis showed an increase from 1% (1987) to 5% (2013) in readmissions caused by hemorrhage. Tonsillectomies, surgery performed for infectious disease, and surgery on adult patients (age >18 years) showed readmission rates approaching 10% (2013). Male gender, increasing age, tonsillectomy, infectious indication, and recent year of surgery were identified as risk factors for readmission and reoperation due to hemorrhage. An increasing share of patients readmitted for hemorrhage underwent reoperation for hemostasis: 18% (1987) versus 43% (2013). Conclusion Readmissions for hemorrhage have increased by a factor of 5 in Sweden from 1987 to 2013. The design of the study and the data in NPR do not allow determination of the true reasons behind the alarming results.

Abstract:
Biodiversity conservation planning is highly important in the current context of global change. Biodiversity conservation can be achieved by understanding changes in land use at the landscape scale. Such understanding is needed to reverse the unprecedented pressure on natural resources that has been reported by many studies conducted on biodiversity conservation within the Oti-Keran-Mandouri protected areas. Land cover maps reflecting different dates (1987, 2000, and 2013) and depicting different management systems, with overall accuracy ranging from 73% to 79%, were analyzed to understand the processes that lead to habitat degradation within these protected areas. The nature of change, within a given land cover class, was determined by comparing land cover maps on different dates using a decision tree algorithm that compares the number of patches, their areas, and their perimeters at different time periods (T1 and T2). Specifically, two time-periods were considered for this analysis: 1987–2000 and 2000–2013. Croplands and settlements increased at an average of 108.13% and 5.45%, respectively, from 1987 to 2000. From 2000 to 2013, croplands gained from all other land categories and continued to increase at a rate of 11.77% per year, whereas forests and savannas decreased at an annual average rate by 5.79% and 2.32%, respectively. The dominant processes of habitat change from 1987 to 2000 were the creation of forests, dissection of savannas, attrition of wetlands, and creation of croplands. Meanwhile, from 2000 to 2013, there was attrition of forests, as well as attrition of savannas, dissection of wetlands, and aggregation of croplands. In general, from 1987 to 2013, natural habitats regressed and were replaced by croplands; forests, savannas, and wetlands decreased at an average annual percentage 5.74%, 3.94%, and 2.02%, respectively, whereas croplands increased at an average annual rate of 285.39% of their own area. Aggregation, attrition, dissection, and creation were the main habitat change processes identified for the overall period from 1987 to 2013. There was habitat loss in forests and savannas and habitat fragmentation in wetland due to attrition and dissection, respectively. Identifying and understanding habitat change processes would enable the taking of appropriate biodiversity conservation actions.

Abstract:

For this, it required a deepening of the concept of function from the works of Karlson (1961) and Caraça (1984), investigating aspects of its development in perspective called by Sousa (2004) as logical and historical. The process of scientific formalization of this concept was explored in works by Boyer (1974); Keys and Carvalho (2004); Souza Júnior (2007); Karlson (1961) and Zuffi (2001). Such studies have shown the need to understand how this concept was taken from the scientific field to the classrooms, leading us to investigate how did the disciplining process of this concept and how it has been proposed in some national curriculum documents. Such theoretical way were necessary to support the analysis of ENEM the articles selected for this research. The ENEM´s papers centered on the concept of function were subjected to content analysis procedures from the perspective of Bardin (2011). The selection of papers considered relevant for this research was given by two methods: the six annals of first issues, we did a full reading of the Annals, identifying those centered on the concept of function; from the seventh edition, the Annals were made available online in text format, which allowed us to do a search by key words: role, functions and algebra consulting title, keywords, abstract and body text. Such a search located 78 papers of scientific communication that were read in the search for converging themes. In the process we identified themes that were organized into four units of analysis: The importance of the function concept; Conceptual understanding; obstacles of Teaching and Learning; and methodologies that contribute to nderstanding the concept of function. The analysis showed the importance the concept of function is related to their social role, their articulating potential of mathematics content and their usefulness for other sciences. The authors point out that the main meanings necessary to understand the concept of function is the notion of respect, dependency, variables, movement / transformation, domain, codomain and image. The analysis also allowed us list the main factors that sometimes hinder the learning concept of function, such that: the reduction of the concept of function one / some of its meanings, the overly formal approach and misunderstanding on the part of the teacher in relative to this concept. According to the analysis, more efficient methods of teaching are related to more contextualized introduction of the concept of function, the use of classroom software (mainly to explore the graphical representation more dynamically) and articulated interpretation of the various ways to represent a same function. The analysis procedure showed that the authors of the research presented in ENEM already use this concept valuing the intrinsic meanings to it. With that, this research invites us to other studies on the relationship between research in mathematics education and what happens in classrooms.<br>A presente pesquisa teve como objetivo investigar o que revelam as pesquisas publicadas nas onze edições do Encontro Nacional de Educação Matemática (ENEM) ocorridos no período entre 1987 até 2013, em relação ao conceito de função.

Some researchers have indicated an increase on breast cancer mortality in Brazil in recent decades. However, this growth has not been homogeneous along the national territory. Therefore, this research aimed to analyze the factors associated to mortality rate from breast cancer of Brazilian counties. In order to accomplish this task, mortality rates, standardized by age group, were calculated to each county of Brazil to the years 1990, 2000 and 2010. It allowed us to estimate regression models, with cross-section and panel data, in order to verify the degree of association of these factors to different periods and regions of Brazil. The results revealed that a growth rate of per capita income, an increase of longevity, a decrease in the level of education, a reduction of fertility rates and a reduction of public spending on health could increase the mortality from breast cancer. However, when considering the mortality rate with correction by ill-defined causes, the results indicated that only the longevity and public spending on health would affect mortality. It was also found that mortality is higher in the South and Southeast and it is lower in the North, Northeast and Midwest, respectively. In addition, the lowest mortality rates were found in cities with 20.-100 thousand inhabitants. The highest mortality rates belong both to the big cities, with over 500 thousand inhabitants, as to the small ones, where the population does not reach 5 thousand. The trend analysis showed that Brazilian regions could have reduced their respective mortality rates if other phenomena (such as income growth, increased life expectancy and declining fertility rate) had not happened in Brazil. Finally, the compilation of data on breast cancer still showed a lower level of coverage of this neoplasm in the North, Midwest and Northeast and a higher level in the Southeast and South. However, this situation has improved over the considered period. Moreover, the reduction of deaths coming from ill-defined causes, verified along 1990, 2000 and 2010, appears to have reduced the effect of this problem on mortality from breast cancer.

The aim of this research is to identify and to analyze the representations of children as subjects with rights in the Brazilian educational research, based on a sociological and historical approach, which sees children as a young-aged human subject, and the childhood as a historical and cultural construction, in a period between 1987 and 2013. The research method intends to make a panorama of the production oriented by the definition of monography base, proposed by Saviani (1987), it is expressed by a wide and rigorous survey of the academic production, in which the Bank of Thesis and Dissertations of CAPES was selected as a privileged source of analysis. Some others sources were also investigated: ANPEd meeting, CAPES Periodic Portal, National Program of Didactic Books, School Library National Program and Directory of CNPq Research Groups. Among the results gotten, it is important to emphasize: the rights of children are characterized as a great and hard social and political fight around the world; and the achievements means we have had a headway, especially in Brazil, where the child, who had been seen only as  younger , starts to be seen as subject with rights. Actually, however, these rights effectuation still need a wider and more complex articulation, related to political, cultural and economic transformation in different societies, especially the Brazilian. The concepts of children and of childhood are seen as synonyms, and for us it excessively endangers the quality of the general debate and the possible effectuation of those rights. A good example about it is the increasing of literature for children, which divulges the idea of rights and  obligations ; the speech of a child as subject with rights usual on the analyzed academic production seems naturalized, as a  slogan of the public politics that reverberate on the scientific production and on the academic debates; the rights of the children are not respected as school content, besides the Law n. 11.525 of 2007 obligates it. Finally, we realized that the childhood, as a legal and social condition for a child, is still not considered as a fundamental human right at the current Brazilian society. Because of this, the academic and continuing teaching education is a possibility on the effectuation of children as subjects with rights.

Abstract:
The Minimum Price Guarantee Policy (PGPM) in Brazil was officially started in 1966 with the objective of reducing the volatility of agricultural prices, ensure a minimum income to producers and secure food supply. It was a universal policy, in the sense that any producer could sell their produce to the federal government, since the latter had sufficient resources to acquire it. Until the mid-1990s the government used broad market intervention tools, the Federal Government Acquisitions (AGF) and the Federal Government Loans (EGF). With the fiscal crisis in the 1980s and the liberalizing structural changes of the 1990s, government intervention was reduced gradually. With regard to government action through PGPM, marketing support instruments were created which led to lower subsidies and to the reduction of public stocks. In Harvest Plan 1996-1997, the government added to the traditional instruments of operationalization of the PGPM the Award for Product Flow (PEP) and the Agricultural Products Put Option (COVPA). In 2004, the Private Put Option and Private Option Risk Premium were created (PROP), and in 2006 the government created the Equalizing Premium Paid to Producer (PEPRO). At the same time the instruments of implementation of universal nature of PGPM turned to family farming, since the creation of the Family Agriculture Harvest Plan by the Ministry of Agrarian Development (MDA) in 2003. Based on the above exposure, the overall objective of this thesis is to analyze the minimum price guarantee policy in Brazil, from 1987 to 2013, highlighting the implementation instruments of PGPM and its social and budgetary costs. The choice of this period is due to the large changes in PGPM and the availability of data for the calculations to be performed. Specifically, we sought to evaluate the influence of interest groups in redirecting the Brazilian pricing policy in the democratic period (1988 onwards) and to quantify the social and budgetary costs involved in the operation of traditional instruments (AGF) and the new instruments created from 1996/1997. To meet the proposed objectives, we used both the political economy framework for the study of interest groups and power resources of these groups and the microeconomics framework for assessing the social costs of different agricultural pricing policies. It was found that the performance of the various interest groups resulted in the decoupling of the price guarantee policy instruments aimed at family farming and not family farming, as well as of the harvest plans and ministries that meet the claims of each group. With regard to social and budgetary costs of PGPM, it was found that the surplus purchasing policy is the most expensive, followed by price insurance policy and by the price subvention to producer.

Abstract:
From the « Hungarian artist » emigrated to France, to the « Ambassador of the French Culture » during the Year choreography for France Russia, twenty-five years of circulations have built a recognizable style, but little studied. From his first creations, his role and his foreign strangeness find ways to share expressions in his report to the origins and native land. He presents to the public fragments of private or collective stories, real or fictional, past or present. Since then, he continues his search for identity connected with other artists, confronting their techniques, their means, their influences. Fed these exchanges, the creative process has evolved, sign language has been refined, the limits of the scenic area had been shaken, causing new work's ways of perception. We then chose to freely follow the geographical journey from this artist tightening analyzing its performing arts and visual creations. This research, a nonlinear one, helps us to understand the issues of multiple creation, which continues to move - and exceed - the question of the identity of the works and their creators. On the lookout of the effects of displacement - in space and time - this thesis finally allows to re-examine the path of Josef Nadj, whose contributions to contemporary dance and art in general contribute to the development of an artistic language that is both intimate and unifying

We analyzed fish communities of three zones (inner, middle and outer) of the Sepetiba Bay (Southeastern Brazil) using identical sampling methods (bottom trawl) during four different time periods: 1987?1988; 1993?1995; 1998?2001 and 2012?2013. A total of 33,140 fish representing 127 species in 88 genera and 41 families were recorded. Our results revealed highly significant and consistent differences in the fish community structure among the bay zones, and a decreased in the fish richness and abundance over the time period. Changes in fish richness and abundance were related mostly to a sharp decrease that occurred in the inner bay zone, the most impacted bay area, and, to a lesser extent, in the middle zone between the two first (1987?1988 and 1993?1995) and the two latter time periods (1998?2001 and 2012?2013), whereas the outer zone remained comparatively stable over time. Spatial changes in the fish community structure among the bay zones were related to differences in salinity, transparency and depth with this latter variable, together with other factors, acting as a buffer for stabalizing community changes; however, these environmental variables explained little of the variation in the temporal changes. The most important changes over time in abundant species were the numerical decreases of the Ariid Cathorops spixii, the serranid Diplectrum radiale and sciaenid Cynoscion leiarchus, and increases of the sciaenid Micropogonias furnieri and the marine catfish Genidens genidens, with this latter species restricted to the inner and middle zones. This study adds long-term information on gradual fish community changes along spatial gradients of environmental and anthropogenic influences in embayment systems.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Since then the country has gone through a period of remarkable economic and political change. Thatcherism, one of the few "isms" named after a british Prime Minister is a doctrine. In coming to power in 1979, Mrs Thatcher made no secret of her determination to break with consensus. Her legislation on unions was not motivated only by an economic desire to reduce union power to price workers out of jobs, but also by a political desire to reduce militant influence by giving unions back to their members. Thatcher's privatisation policy is based on the belief that there should be a major diminution in state intervention in the economy and greater reliance on the free market. Welfare is too expensive, people should be encouraged to make provision for themselves and their families. Unemployment has reached very high levels under Thatcher's governments but from 1984 on, the number of unemployed has been reduced. She was reelected because she knows how to communicate with Britons and because of the weakness and divisions inside the other camp

Abstract:
In Seamus Heaney's poetry, as often in Irish literature, the sense of identity is linked to the sense of place. When the poet depicts Mossbawn, the family farm where he spent his childhood, or his cottage in Glanmore, his various descriptions are necessarily influenced by his imagination; he therefore poeticizes space. However, throughout his work, Seamus Heaney also broaches more theoretical conceptions of space; that is to say he also poeticizes his own personal space, or his relationships to others, thanks to spatial metaphors. His work revolves around the notion of identity which he defines in several ways; in preoccupations, he talks of the "definition of the self" (136-37), or in the government of the tongue he refers to Jung’s theory on individuation (107). Thus we have tried to study this search for identity -which, sometimes, suffers setbacks- in relation to space

Abstract:
Regendered movement refers to a process where choreographic material is created or adapted with the intention that it may be performed by either male or female dancers with little or no change to the original steps. This practice-led research project investigated the choreographer’s creative process for regendering contemporary ballet choreography and the dancers’ experiences of the rehearsal process and performance, and audience perception of meaning in the ballets. The research project sought to investigate the “in-born” and “natural” gender binaries of classical ballet by applying gender theory (Butler 1990, 2004; Polhemus 1993; Wulff 2008) and feminist critique of classical ballet (Daly 1987; Copeland 1993; Anderson 1997; Banes 1998). A mixed method, studio-based action research methodology was employed. Recent critical debate on gender in dance (Macaulay 2010, 2013; Jennings 2013, 2014), existing contemporary ballet, and its impact on the creative process of the choreographer are discussed.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the politics, aspirations and antagonisms that grew out of the curatorial process underlying the exhibition, The Potosi Principle (Madrid 2010, Berlin 2011, La Paz 2011), and compare them to other Andean exhibitions including Bolivian Worlds (London 1987) and Luminescence: The Silver of Peru (Vancouver 2012, Toronto 2013). The chapter questions the category of contemporary art and examines its avowed potential as radical critique and the claims that it and other exhibition strategies have marginalised indigenous epistemologies and obfuscated historical agency. The implications of this conflict between western and indigenous curators and curatorial collectives on the right of self-expression and the freedom of interpretation and critique; associated ethical conundrums and the viability of epistemological pluralism will be clearly articulated as problems requiring serious museological attention.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the historical, cultural, industrial, and technological contexts of stylistic remediation between comics and film. It traces the evolution of these various contexts in relation to remediation of style by focusing on three film cycles that span from the blockbuster period that began with Jaws in 1975 to the contemporary period. These cycles are exemplified by the Superman films of the 1970s and 1980s, the Batman films of the 1980s and 1990s, and what Bob Rehak has defined as the high fidelity adaptations of the late 1990s and early 2000s. The chapter first provides a brief contextual history of comic books, film, and television before the blockbusters (1934–1968) before discussing the three cycles: Superman cycle (1978–1987), Batman cycle (1989–1997), and high-fidelity cycle (2000–2013). It shows that, during the Superman cycle, realism was essentially favored over the more formally flamboyant trajectory of stylistic remediation.

Abstract:
The epilogue connects tropes of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries of Jews, dance, and modernization with late twentieth- and twenty-first-century representations. Popular works such as Fiddler on the Roof (1964), Dirty Dancing (1987), Rebecca Goldstein’s Mazel (1995), Kerry Greenwood’s Raisins and Almonds: A Phryne Fisher Mystery (1997), Helene Wecker’s The Golem and the Jinni (2013), and Naomi Novik’s Spinning Silver (2018) reveal the continued efficacy of the mixed-sex dancing trope in fictional representations of Yiddish-speaking Jews. These works are often less didactic than nineteenth-century predecessors; they envision more opportunities for female agency and frequently end happily. Not only is the dance floor a flexible space, the dance trope is a flexible metaphor for the concerns of Jewish communities in the face of cultural transitions. In other words, the trope of Jewish mixed-sex dancing charts the particularities of the Jewish “dance” with modern culture.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses Clyde Edgerton's early novels, whose characters define themselves and the essential nature of contemporary life in the South. If we accept Erik Bledsoe's description of the Rough South as “a world of excess—excessive alcohol, excessive sex, excessive violence,” the works of Edgerton hardly seem to qualify. Indeed, Yvonne Mason, in Reading, Learning, Teaching Clyde Edgerton, declares his work “infinitely suitable” for “young readers in the English Language Arts classroom”—an appraisal difficult to imagine for the fiction of Harry Crews or Larry Brown. Edgerton's first three novels—Raney (1985), Walking Across Egypt (1987), and The Floatplane Notebooks (1988)—offer a way to understand his South, a world that increasingly belongs to and is defined by aging and death. This chapter considers Edgerton's other works, including the novel The Night Train (2011), the memoir Solo: My Adventure in the Air (2005), and the nonfiction Papadaddy's Book for New Fathers: Advice to Dads of All Ages (2013).

Abstract:
The Brundtland Commission in its report Our Common Future (United Nations, 1987) is widely credited with setting down the first policy definition of sustainable development. In 2017 this report will be thirty years old yet it seems we are still a long way from living sustainably: If, as of 2017, there is not a start of a major wave of new and clean investments, the door to 2 degrees [global temperature increase] will be closed. (Birol, 2011) Green policies have been ‘adapted and adopted’ by mainstream parties across Europe, despite Green parties being a relatively small political force (Carter, 2013). The European Commission has become a worldwide driver of green policy (Judge, 1992) and market-based innovations such as the Emissions Trading System 1 , despite being celebrated and criticised in seemingly equal measure. Media coverage of ‘outsider’ party growth in the UK has swung towards the libertarian and anti-Europe UKIP recently, despite comparable and longer term growth in support for the Greens (Goodwin &amp; Ford, 2013). Efforts have been made to disassociate Green voices from older clichés of self-deprivation: The Green party has changed: partly the personalities within it, partly in response to the changing world outside it....At the same time, ideas that were mainly theoretical 25 years ago – solar and wind technology – have been demonstrably workable...The Greens have become the party of possibilities, not catastrophes. (Williams, 2014). One attempt to imagine a sustainable future can be found in The World We Made, written by Johnathon Porritt from the perspective of a school teacher in the year 2050. The positives of huge renewable investments, progressive economic policies and a panoply of exciting new technologies are matched with equally plausible negatives of stubborn inequality, famines and riots. In the postscript, Porritt states: ‘If we can’t deliver the necessarily limited vision of a better world mapped out in The World We Made, then the hard truth is that no other vision will be available to us anyway, on any terms.’ (Porritt, 2013: 276)

Abstract:
Marketing incremental and radical innovations to consumers in different nations requires an understanding of the influence of their national culture, socioeconomic, and demographic variables (Everdingen &amp; Warts, 2003). The innovation adoption process involves innovative and imitative consumer behavior (Rogers 1962, 2003; Bass, 1969; Norton &amp; Bass, 1987). The consumer behavior of adoption of innovations can be predicted from their attitude towards the adoption, perceived behavioral control, social influence, and subjective norms, which are part of the national culture (Ajzen &amp; Fishbein, 1980; Ajzen, 1985, 1991). For multiple generations of the same product, innovation adoption and substitution occurs simultaneously. An integrated, multi-generation diffusion model has been developed that considers a dynamic market potential with a competitive relationship among generations and products (Kreng &amp; Wang, 2013). The Hofstede framework of national culture is the most widely used cultural framework to explain the consequences of culture for global marketing, branding, and advertising (Hofstede, et al., 2010; Mooij &amp; Hofstede, 2010, 2011; Rinnie &amp; Fairweather, 2012). The purpose of this chapter is to summarize the current understanding about creating a culturally sensitive marketing intervention strategy including price, competition, and substitution for the diffusion of innovations using Hofstede's six dimensions of national culture.

Abstract:
This paper aims to examine the spillovers from stock prices onto consumption and interest rate for Turkey by using a time-varying vector autoregressive model with stochastic volatility. A three-variable time-varying vector autoregressive model is estimated to capture the time-varying nature of the macroeconomic dynamics in the Turkish economy between real consumption, nominal interest rate and real stock prices. In order to obtain the macroeconomic dynamics in a small open economy, the data covers the period 1987:Q1 until 2013:Q3 in Turkey. The sample data is gathered from the official website of Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey. Overall, this study provides the evidence of significant time-varying spillovers on consumption and interest rate coming from the stock market during financial crises and implications of monetary policy in Turkey. In addition, a time-varying vector autoregressive model with stochastic volatility offers remarkable results about the impact of price shock on consumption levels in Turkey.

Abstract:
Increases of trade openness in an economy raise the external risks in globalization. The societies demand on increases of the government expenditure in order to compensate for their risks. Hence the more trade openness may cause the more government size. This relation is named as compensation hypothesis in the literature has been comprehensively discussed by Rodrik (1998) but started by Cameron (1978). This paper attempts to analyze the cointegration and causality relationships between trade openness and government size in Turkey, utilizing annual data for the period 1980–2013. The existence of the long run relationship between trade openness and government size is investigated by applying Engle and Granger (1987) cointegration test. The empirical findings of cointegration test stated that the series are cointegrated. On the other hand the results of error correction model indicate that there is a unidirectional causality from trade openness to government size. The significance of this results state that the compensation hypothesis is valid for Turkey.

Abstract:
AND “design management” AND “service design”. Faust, Maria. "Revitalizing Eastern and Western Online Communication: A Micro-Meso-Macro Link of Temporal Digital Change." In GLOCAL Conference on Asian Linguistic Anthropology 2019. The GLOCAL Unit, SOAS University of London, 2019. http://dx.doi.org/10.47298/cala2019.2-2.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper explains in a de-westernized sense (Gunaratne, 2010) how internet-mediated communication changes the way we deal with and plan time both individually and culturally in Germany and China. Therefore, it blends Western and Eastern culture and media theories. The paper focuses on two distinct phenomena: temporal change due to social media, and Online journalism, as the core of Internet-mediated communication (for Germany 39% communication, media use 24% Projektgruppe ARD/ZDF-Multimedia, 2016; for China 90.7% instant messaging, 82% Internet news China Internet Network Information Center, 2017), with other temporal change via smart devices touched upon (Ash, 2018). General research on time in post modern societies, recently more focused on media’s temporal change phenomena (e.g. Barker, 2012; Barker, 2018; Castells, 2010; Eriksen, 2001; Hartmann, 2016; Hassan, 2003; Innis, 2004; Neverla, 2010a, 2010b; Nowotny, 1995; Rantanen, 2005; Wajcman, 2010; Wajcman and Dodd) has not yet linked the different societal and cultural levels of temporal change. Thus, we suggest the following to fill this research gap: For a micro perspective the notions of network theories (e.g. Granovetter, 1973; Schönhuth, 2013), media synchronicity (Dennis, Fuller, and Valacich, 2008) and the idea of permanent connectivity (Sonnentag, Reinecke, Mata, and Vorderer, 2018; van Dijck, 2013; Vorderer, Krömer, and Schneider, 2016) are linked. On a meso level, institutional change in Online journalism with a focus on acceleration is modeled (Ananny, 2016; Bødker and Sonnevend, 2017; Dimmick, Feaster, and Hoplamazian, 2011; Krüger, 2014; Neuberger, 2010). On a macro level, mediatization theory (Couldry and Hepp, 2017; Krotz, 2001, 2012) and recent acceleration theory (Rosa, 2005, 2012, 2017) is discussed. The levels are systematically linked suggesting a micro-meso-macro-link (Quandt, 2010) to then ask if and how many of the dimensions of the construct temporal understanding (Faust, 2016) can be changed through Internet-mediated communication. Temporal understanding consists of nine dimensions: General past, general future, instrumental experience (monochronicity), fatalism, interacting experience (polychronicity), pace of life, future as planned expectation and result of proximal goals as well as future as trust based interacting expectation and result of present positive behavior. Temporal understanding integrates the anthropological construct of polychronicity (Bluedorn, Kalliath, Strube, and Martin, 1999; Hall, 1984; Lindquist and Kaufman-Scarborough, 2007), pace of life (Levine, 1998) and temporal horizon (Klapproth, 2011) into a broader framework which goes beyond Western biased constructs through the theory driven incorporation of Confucian notions (Chinese Culture Connection, 1987). Finally, meta trends are laid out.
