Bulbophyllum sect. Trias (Lindley 1830: 60) Vermeulen (2014: 40) comprises about 15 species (WCSP, 2013), distributed from China to Indonesia (Seidenfaden 1976, 1986, Kumar 1989, Wood & Cribb 1994, Vermeulen & Lamb 1994, Averyanov & Averyanova 2006, Liu et al. 2007). In India, the genus is represented by five species (Hooker 1890, Prain 1903, Gammie 1906, Kumar 1989, Rao & Hegde 1988, Diwakar et al. 2006), of which two viz. SummaryWe estimated the population density of the globally threatened Elfin-woods WarblerSetophaga angelaewithin two forest types at different elevations in the Luquillo Experimental Forest in north-eastern Puerto Rico. Population densities ranged from 0.01 to 0.02 individuals/ha in elfin woodland and 0.06–0.26 individuals/ha inpalo coloradoforest in 2006, with average rates of decline since 1989 of 0.002–0.01 and 0.003–0.06 individuals/ha respectively. These estimates show a significant general declining trend from c.0.2 individuals/ha in 1989 in elfin woodland to c.0.02/ha in 2006, and from 1 to 0.2 inpalo coloradoforest. Although variation in estimated population density depended on the statistical method used, we document and discuss possible causes of an overall population decline from 1989 to 2006, lending support to previous initiatives to reclassify the species from the IUCN Red List category of “Vulnerable” to “Endangered”.

Abstract:

Neste trabalho avaliou-se a evolução do uso e ocupação do solo em Ponta Porã – MS no período compreendido entre 1966 e 2006, tendo como base o uso de geotecnologias e dados de sensoriamento remoto, permitindo o monitoramento ambiental dos processos antrópicos. Ponta Porã é cidade limítrofe a oeste com a República Federativa do Paraguai, formando uma conurbação internacional com Pedro Juan Caballero, isso confere a região vantagens relacionadas à logística e a boas condições para o desenvolvimento econômico. Para a análise multitemporal da cobertura do solo foram utilizadas as cartas topográficas do DSG/IBGE da década de 1960 e imagens de satélite Landsat de 1989 e 2006. Na classificação da cobertura do solo utilizou-se a legenda do Projeto CORINE. Entre 1966 e 1989 houve um decréscimo nas áreas ocupadas por áreas naturais de 24,15% para 15,94% da superfície do município e um acréscimo entre 1989 e 2006, para 18,83%. Considerando o período total (1966 - 2006), a evolução do uso e ocupação do solo decorrente da ação antrópica permaneceu estável, pois houve apenas um decréscimo de 5,32% de áreas naturais.

Abstract:

We surveyed the Lesser Snow (Chen caerulescens caerulescens) and Ross’s geese (Chen rossii) of Jenny Lind Island, Nunavut, using aerial photography in June 1988, 1998, and 2006, and a visual helicopter transect survey in July 1990. The estimated number of nesting geese was 39 154 ± SE 2238 in 1988, 19 253 ± 2323 in 1998, and 21 572 ± 1898 in 2006. In 1988 an estimated 2.7% of the nesting geese were Ross’s. The July 1990 population of adult-plumaged birds was 25 020 ± 3114. The estimated percentage blue morph among Snow and Ross’s geese was 19.0% in 1988, 25.1% in 1989, 23.0% in 1990 and 21.1% in 2006. Estimated pre-fledged Snow Goose productivity was 47% young in 1989 and 46% in 1990. Combined numbers of Snow and Ross’s geese on Jenny Lind Island grew over 250 fold, from 210 adults in 1962-1966 to 54 100 adults in 1985. Numbers subsequently declined, to 42 200 in 1988, 25 000 in 1990, 20 300 in 1998, and 26 400 in 2006. Population decline between 1985 and 1990 was consistent with anecdotal reports by others that die-offs of Snow Geese occurred in 1984, 1985 and 1989, and with our August 1989 fieldwork which found evidence of habitat degradation and malnourishment of young geese. In spite of limited food resources on Jenny Lind Island, the colony continued to exist in 2006 at near its 1990 and 1998 levels. Further studies there could provide insights for management of the overabundant mid-continent Snow Goose population and its arctic habitats.

Deltocephalinae is the largest and most economically important group of leafhoppers, containing over 6500 described species (Zahniser & Dietrich, 2008). Many undescribed species of Deltocephalinae have been discovered in China. The deltocephaline genus Reticulum was established by Dai, Li and Chen (2006) with the type species R. transvittatum Dai, Li & Chen from China. Dai and Zhang (2008) revised the genus and added two new species. Nevertheless the name Reticulum is preoccupied and was initially introduced by Schröder, Medioli & Scott, 1989 for a genus of the foraminifer Family Komokidae (with the type species Reticulum pingue Schröder, Medioli & Scott, 1989 from Nares Abyssal Plain). Thus, the genus Reticulum Dai, Li & Chen, 2006 is a junior homonym of the genus Reticulum Schröder, Medioli and Scott, 1989. According to Article 60 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, I propose for Reticulum Dai, Li & Chen, 2006 the new replacement name Neoreticulum nom. nov. Accordingly, new combinations are herein proposed for the cicadellid species currently included in this genus: Neoreticulum lanceolatum (Dai & Zhang, 2008), Neoreticulum trispinosum (Dai & Zhang, 2008), and Neoreticulum transvittatum (Dai, Li & Chen, 2006)

Abstract:

Abstract Forty years ago severe aplastic anemia (SAA) was almost universally fatal disease, but now most patients can be successfully treated with hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) or immunosuppressive therapy (IST). Since the majority of patients are not suitable candidates for allogeneic HSCT from a histocompatible sibling, IST is usually the treatment of choice. From the introduction of the standard anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG) + cyclosporine (CsA) regimen in the 1980s, the hematologic response rate has been 60–70% despite efforts to improve on the ATG+CsA platform. Across many protocols, there is a strong link between response to IST and survival. We examined short and long term survival of patients who were treated with initial IST at the Clinical Center of the National Institutes of Health from 1989 to 2006; a total of 372 patients were analyzed in 3 separate cohorts: those who received IST from 1989–1995; 1996–2001 and 2002–2006. Thirty-two deaths occurred within the 6-months period of IST with 15 being attributed to a fungal infection. The distribution of early deaths (< 6 months) in relation to the different time periods were 15% (1989–1995); 9% (1996–2001); and 5% (2002–2006) (p = 0.003). Survival beyond 6 months also improved (1989–1995 and 2002–2006, 65% vs. 85%, respectively; p < 0.01). Surprisingly, the survival benefit was most striking among patients who did not respond to IST at 6 months. Among the total 116 non-responders, the number of patients who received a second course of IST was 0% (1989–1995), 37% (1996–2001) and 51% (2002–2006); those who underwent HSCT were 19% (1989–1995), 23% (1996–2001) and 18% (2002–2006); and those who did not receive a second course of IST or HSCT were 83% (1989–1995), 29% (1996–2001) and 11% (2002–2006). We draw two major conclusions from our data analysis. First, improvement in short term survival over the last two decades is most likely due to advances in supportive care, as the response rate to horse ATG + CsA has remained largely unchanged during the same time period. The marked decline in deaths due to invasive Aspergillosis infection suggests that the introduction of effective and relatively nontoxic antifungal drugs is of prime importance (e.g., voriconazole in 2002 and caspofungin in 2004). Second, the utilization of secondary therapies--a repeat course of IST and allogeneic HSCT for older adults and matched unrelated transplants for younger individuals--have salvaged patients who are primary ATG-failures. The advances in supportive care also impact long term survival in those who receive salvage therapies and in those who fail repeated courses of IST and are not suitable candidates for HSCT, who now can be adequately maintained on growth factor and transfusion support, often for years. Current survival rates in SAA should be weighed when in considering treatment algorithms for patients who fail initial IST.

Abstract Accurate estimates of long-term linear trends of wind speed provide a useful indicator for circulation changes in the atmosphere and are invaluable for the planning and financing of sectors such as wind energy. Here a large number of wind observations over Australia and reanalysis products are analyzed to compute such trends. After a thorough quality control of the observations, it is found that the wind speed trends for 1975–2006 and 1989–2006 over Australia are sensitive to the height of the station: they are largely negative for the 2-m data but are predominantly positive for the 10-m data. The mean relative trend at 2 m is −0.10 ± 0.03% yr−1 (−0.36 ± 0.04% yr−1) for the 1975–2006 (1989–2006) period, whereas at 10 m it is 0.90 ± 0.03% yr−1 (0.69 ± 0.04% yr−1) for the 1975–2006 (1989–2006) period. Also, at 10 m light winds tend to increase more rapidly than the mean winds, whereas strong winds increase less rapidly than the mean winds; at 2 m the trends in both light and strong winds vary in line with the mean winds. It was found that a qualitative link could be established between the observed features in the linear trends and some atmospheric circulation indicators (mean sea level pressure, wind speed at 850 hPa, and geopotential at 850 hPa), particularly for the 10-m observations. Further, the magnitude of the trend is also sensitive to the period selected, being closer to zero when a very long period, 1948–2006, is considered. As a consequence, changes in the atmospheric circulation on climatic time scales appear unlikely.

O objetivo deste artigo é discutir acerca do conceito de oralidade, proposto pela poética de Henri Meschonnic. Para fazê-lo, parte-se do questionamento da visão dicotômica da relação entre oralidade e escrita, presentes em Zumthor (1997), Marcuschi (2001) e Meschonnic (1985) e (1989/2006). Em um segundo momento, discute-se acerca da transformação dessa dicotomia na tripartição escrito, falado e oral, presente na reflexão de Meschonnic (1982), (1985), (1989/2006) e (1982/2009). Essa tripartição postula que o oral está tanto no escrito quanto no falado, o que provoca uma alteração na concepção de oralidade e a transforma em uma noção também literária.

Abstract:

The deltocephaline genus Reticulum, of tribe Athysanini, was established by Dai, Li & Chen (2006) with Reticulum transvittatum Dai, Li & Chen, 2006 as its type species. Dai & Zhang (2008) reviewed this genus and described two new species: R. trispinosum and R. lanceolatum from China. Recently, Dai (2009) proposed a new replacement name Neoreticulum to Reticulum Dai, Li & Chen, 2006 because the latter is a junior homonym of Reticulum Schröder, Medioli & Scott, 1989, and made three new combinations.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pengaruh politik hukum kolonial Belanda terhadap Pengadilan Agama. Pada dasarnya, Pengadilan Agama telah ada sejak kedatangan Islam di Nusantara ini. Namun, ketika Belanda menjajah Indonesia, Pengadilan Agama mulai dipengaruhi oleh politik kolonial Belanda yang mengakibatkan: peresmian Pengadilan Sipil, pembagian yurisdiksi lembaga Pengadilan Agama menjadi tiga wilayah, yaitu, di luar Jawa-Madura dan beberapa bagian dari Kal-sel dan Kal-tim. Pengadilan Agama di wilayah ini yang berbeda dalam hal nama, struktur, dan yurisdiksi, sehingga mereka tidak seragam di seluruh Indonesia. Selain itu, mereka juga memiliki hukum acara mereka sendiri. Hal ini telah berakhir setelah berlakunya Undang-Undang No. 7 Tahun 1989 tentang Peradilan Agama. Beberapa kasus seperti kasus warisan masih di bawah yurisdiksi Pengadilan Sipil. Namun, setelah Undang-Undang No. 7 Tahun 1989 yang telah diubah dengan Undang-Undang No. 3 Tahun 2006, kasus tersebut kini benar-benar di bawah yurisdiksi Pengadilan Agama. dan beberapa bagian dari Kal-sel dan Kal-tim. In Denmark, the parliament passed the first Mental Health Act (MHA) in 1938. A new Act was passed in 1989, based on a thorough report from the Ministry of Justice. The 1989 Act emphasised the protection of citizens' legal rights in relation to compulsory admission, detention and treatment in psychiatric hospitals. That Act is still in operation, although it has been amended several times. In 2006 the definition of ‘compulsion’ was changed, and a 2010 amendment introduced compulsory treatment in the community for a trial period of 4 years.

Descrever a distribuição espacial da mortalidade por doença cardiovascular na população do Paraná, Brasil (1989-1991 e 2006-2008) e sua correlação com variáveis socioeconômicas. Trata-se de estudo ecológico, com dados de mortalidade e populacionais obtidos, respectivamente, do Departamento de Informática do SUS e do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística. As taxas de mortalidade foram ajustadas pela estimativa bayesiana empírica local. Utilizou-se o índice de Moran I e o coeficiente de Spearman na análise de correlação. Não foram observadas correlações significantes ou dependência espacial entre a mortalidade e as variáveis socioeconômicas. A magnitude da mortalidade foi maior no sexo masculino em ambos os triênios. A força de mortalidade por doenças cardiovasculares diminuiu entre 1989-1991 e 2006-2008, sendo maior no sexo feminino. A construção de mapas temáticos permitiu a visualização das macrorregionais com maior risco de ocorrência do agravo. A redução de mortalidade pode ser, em parte, explicada pelo maior acesso a serviços e pela melhoria das condições de vida e renda.

Abstract:

Remote sensing is widely used to capture the images of land use/land cover on earth. This paper studies on the land use changes in Lojing, Kelantan in 1989 dan 2006. The land use is then classified, and the classification scheme was adopted from United States Geological Survey (USGS) Land Use/ Land Cover Classification System. Supervised classification method has been used since it was proved by other research to be more accurate compared to unsupervised classification. Accuracy assessment was conducted to calculate the accuracy of the land use map produced so that at the end, a good quality of land use map is produced. The findings of this study is that, there had been an insignificant land use changes between the year 1989 and 2006. The conclusion is, Lojing had been experiencing changes in term of land use due to the increased socioeconomic activities especially agriculture and logging at the highlands of Lojing.

e19049 Background: Recent clinical trials demonstrated differential survival benefit from different chemotherapy regimens according to NSCLC histologies. We investigated the distribution of carcinoma NOS (not otherwise specified) among NSCLC cases in California. Methods: Retrospective population-based analysis of 175,298 NSCLC patients diagnosed histologically or cytologically from the statewide California Cancer Registry from 1989 to 2006. Results: Carcinoma NOS accounted for 22.2% of all NSCLC patients, was most commonly diagnosed cytologically (36.7%) and had the worst 5-year survival estimates (5.8%) and median OS (5 months) compared to other major histologies. The proportion of carcinoma NOS was highest among stage 4 disease and increased significantly from 1989 to 2006 among all patients, both males and females, all 4 major ethnicities (Caucasian, African-American, Hispanic, and Asian), all age- categories, and all AJCC stages. The percentage of the very elderly (80+) increased from 10.8% to 17.1% among all NSCLC patients and they had the highest percentages of carcinoma NOS and cytologically-diagnosed NSCLC among all age categories. Among stage 4 patients, carcinoma NOS patients derived less survival benefit from chemotherapy than adenocarcinoma patients during the most recent period of diagnosis and Cox proportional hazards analysis indicated carcinoma NOS (vs. adenocarcinoma; HR = 1.061, 95% CI: 1.040- 1.083) and cytologically-diagnosed NSCLC (vs. histologically-diagnosed NSCLC, HR = 1.043, 95% CI: 1.024–1.062) were independent unfavorable prognostic factors for OS. Conclusions: Carcinoma NOS was a common histologic diagnosis and was increasing in proportion among NSCLC in California from 1989 to 2006. This may be partially attributed to the increasing number of the very elderly patients and stage 4 patients. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

O presente artigo analisa as principais leis aprovadas em segurança pública e justiça criminal no Congresso Nacional brasileiro entre 1989 e 2006. A pesquisa divide-se em dois momentos: 1) mapeamento do material apontando os partidos, estados e casas proponentes; mandatos presidenciais que sancionaram as leis; número de leis aprovadas por ano e o tempo médio de tramitação das leis de acordo com a casa propositora; 2) os tipos gerais (modelos) de punição propostos pelas normas. Proponho a partir do material apresentado que a política de segurança pública no Brasil está em uma disputa na qual coexistem leis que criminalizam novas condutas, leis que recrudescem a punição em relação a um referencial anterior e leis que despenalizam condutas ou buscam efetivar direitos e garantias fundamentais dos acusados.

Abstract:

Background/Aim. Oesophageal cancer is the sixth most common cause of death from all malignant tumors in the world (fifth in men, eighth in women). This cancer was estimated to account for about 529 000 new cases and about 442 000 deaths in the year 2007. In the year 2002 the highest standardized mortality rates (per 100 000 habitants) of oesophageal carcinoma were noticed in the East Asia (men/women: 18.8/7.7) and East Africa (18.6/7.8), while the lowest were noticed in the Middle Africa (1.4/0.2) and West Africa (1.3/0.5). The aim of this descriptive epidemiologic study was to analyze epidemiologic situation of oesophageal cancer in Belgrade population during the period 1989-2006, using mortality data. Methods. Mortality data were collected from the City Organization for Statistics. In data analysis we used mortality rates which were standardized directly using those of the world population as the standard, and proportions. A denominator for mortality rates was calculated using the Belgrade population which was an average of the two latest register years (1991 and 2002). In order to analyze trend mortality from oesophageal cancer we used linear trend. Results. In Belgrade deaths from oesophageal cancer accounted for about 5.2% of all malignant tumors of intestinal system in male population, and 2.4% in female population. This cancer is, according to standardized mortality rates (per 100 000 habitants), on the fifth place in Belgrade population behind colorectal, stomach, pancreatic, liver and cholecystic cancer. During the period 1989-2006 in Belgrade 44 persons died from oesophageal carcinoma on the average each year, mainly men (75%), and the rest were women (25%). In male population during the same period we noticed a significant increase in trend mortality (y = 1.61 + 0.06x, p = 0.001), while in female population the increase of mortality was not significant. The male/female oesophageal cancer mortality ratio was 3:1. Mortality rates for oesophageal cancer rise with age in both sexes and they are highest in the age group of 70 and more years. Significant increase in mortality from oesophageal cancer was noticed in age groups 20-29 and over 70 in male population, and age group 40-49 in female population. Conclusion. Increasing trend in oesophageal mortality suggests the necessity for improving measures of primary prevention including education about risk factors for this carcinoma (smoking, alcohol consumption, hot food and drinks), early diagnosis, and treatment.
