Abstract:
The paper deals with the phenomenon of celebrity politics in the Czech Republic, particularly the involvement of celebrities in Czech politics between 1996 and 2013. The authors draw from the celebrity politics’ typologies of Paul ‘t Hart and Karen Tindall, and John Street. Employing a content analysis of newspaper articles from the journals MF Dnes and Blesk during the periods preceding the elections of the Chamber of Deputies, the authors shed light on celebrity involvement in Czech politics. Specifically, they trace three categories mentioned in the media: the celebrity expression of political topics in general, celebrity political endorsement and the candidacy of celebrities. Building upon the collected data, the authors interpret the results within the political and social context of the parliamentary period and indicate more general patterns of celebrity involvement in Czech politics.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of changes in farm economic conditions and macroeconomic trends on US farm capital expenditures between 1996 and 2013. Design/methodology/approach A synthetic panel is constructed from Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS) data. A dynamic system GMM regression model is estimated for farms as a whole and separately within farm typology categories. The use of farm typologies allows for comparison of the relative magnitudes of these estimates across farms by farm sales level and the operator’s primary occupation. Findings Changes in gross farm income levels, tax depreciation rates, and interest rates have a significant impact on crop farm investment, while changes in output prices, net cash farm income levels, tax depreciation rates, and farm specialization levels have significant impacts on livestock farm capital investment. The relative significance and magnitudes of these impacts differ within farm typologies. Significant differences include a greater responsiveness to change in tax policy variables for residential crop farms, greater responsiveness to changes in output prices and debt to asset ratios for intermediate livestock farms, and larger changes in commercial crop and livestock farm investment given equivalent changes in farm sales or the returns to investment. Research limitations/implications These findings are of interest to agricultural economists when constructing farm investment models and employing pseudo panel methods, to those in the agricultural equipment and manufacturing sector when constructing models to manage inventories and plan for production needs across regions and over time, to those involved in drafting tax policy and evaluating the potential impacts of tax changes on agricultural investment, and for those in the agricultural lending sector when designing and executing agricultural capital lending programs. Originality/value This study uniquely identifies differences in the level of investment and the magnitude of investment responsiveness to changes in farm economic conditions and macroeconomic trends given differences in income levels and primary operator occupation. In addition, this study is one of the few which utilizes ARMS data to study farm capital investment. Utilizing ARMS data provides a rich panel data set, covering producers across many different crop production types and regions. Finally, employing pseudo panel construction methods contributes to efforts to effectively employ cross-sectional data and dynamic models to study farm behavior across time.

Abstract:
Denna undersökning studerar hur det svenska asyl- och flyktingmottagandet på kommunal nivå påverkar förtroendet för välfärdsstaten och förtroendet för andra människor. Den existerande forskningen på området, både internationellt och inom Sverige, ger en delvis motsägelsefull bild av hur denna påverkan kan komma att ta sig ut, något som i kombination med de historiskt höga nivåerna av flyktingmottagande i Sverige ger god anledning att intressera sig för frågan. Enkätsvar från SOM-undersökningen mellan 1996 till och med 2013 kombineras med datamaterial från Migrationsverket och SCB för att studera eventuella effekter. Genom ett strategiskt urval av kommungrupper med högt respektive lågt kommunmottagande framkommer att attityden till välfärdsstaten inte verkar påverkas av mottagandet. Däremot upptäcks en negativ effekt på den mellanmänskliga tilliten, som därefter kan bekräftas genom multipla regressionsanalyser. Införande av andra socioekonomiska faktorer som kontrollvariabler i regressionsanalyserna visar att sambandet mellan asyl- och flyktingmottagande och en lägre mellanmänsklig tillit kvarstår, även om det försvagas något. Slutligen sätts detta resultat i relation till den existerande forskningen på området, där det framkommer att resultatet ligger i linje med delar av denna existerande forskning samtidigt som det talar emot andra delar. Olika anledningar till hur denna skillnad kan tänkas uppkomma diskuteras kortfattat.

To understand what the origins of the debate on labor productivity first discuss what are the conceptual differences according to the thinking of some of the classics called authors, then to present the main contributions on the subject by the neo-classical and the evolutionary thinking, which they were selected as appropriate for the subject of analysis. In the second phase, an industrial policy analysis and concepts through a resumption of the proposals I PND to PBM is made, identifying in each plan, which mechanisms have been suggested that could generate increases in productivity. Finally, we analyze the current theoretical debate on labor productivity behavior in the manufacturing industry. When we review the empirical data, we concluded that there was a decrease in the indicator for the manufacturing industry between 1996 and 2013. The resumption of industrial policies in the early 2000s did not guarantee support investments to cope with the growth in production, so to meet the expansion of industrial production, it was necessary to increase the number of employed persons at higher rates than the value of industrial transformation, resulting in the fall of the indicator searched<br>Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar o comportamento da produtividade do trabalho na indústria de transformação no Brasil para os anos de 1996 a 2013, a partir de dados da Pesquisa Industrial Anual disponibilizada pelo IBGE. Para entendermos quais as origens do debate sobre produtividade do trabalho, primeiro discutimos quais são as diferenças conceituais de acordo com o pensamento de alguns dos autores denominados clássicos, para em seguida apresentar as principais contribuições sobre o tema pelos os neoclássicos e pelo pensamento evolucionista, que foram selecionadas como apropriadas para a análise do tema. No segundo momento, é feita uma análise de política industrial e seus conceitos através de uma retomada das propostas do I Plano Nacional de Desenvolvimento ao Plano Brasil Maior, identificando em cada Plano, quais mecanismos foram sugeridos que poderiam gerar incrementos de produtividade. Por fim, analisamos o debate teórico atual sobre o comportamento da produtividade do trabalho na indústria de transformação. Ao verificarmos os dados empíricos, concluímos que houve queda no indicador para a indústria de transformação entre 1996 e 2013. A retomada de políticas industriais no inicio da década de 2000 não garantiu a sustentação de investimentos para fazer frente ao crescimento da produção, de modo que, para atender à expansão da produção industrial, foi necessário aumentar o pessoal ocupado a taxas maiores que os do valor da transformação industrial, implicando na queda do indicador pesquisado

Its specific purposes were: from the perspective of historiography, to analyze the concepts of school education, adolescence and deprivation of liberty; to identify the forms taken by scientific production which historiography has as the main point the education of adolescents in situations of deprivation of liberty; to discuss the historical, technical and methodological aspects of educational historiography consolidated in theses and dissertations about the school education of adolescents in situation of deprivation of liberty in Brazil; to identify and to analyze the perspectives and paradoxes that permeate the educational historiography, prioritizing as object of study the school education of adolescent in a situation of deprivation of liberty. How historiography conceptually defined education, adolescence and deprivation of liberty? What settings were took by the historiographical scientific production which concerned about school education of adolescents in situation of deprivation of liberty? How was organized historical, technical and methodological the scientific productions translated into educational historiography that prioritized as object of study adolescent education in situations of deprivation of liberty? What perspectives and paradoxes about educational inclusion were narrated by the authors of educational historiography that took as its central theme the school education of adolescent in a situation of deprivation of liberty? I resorted to the field of educational historiography with the support of the criticism coming from Marxist interpretations which have enabled the literature review on the topic, analyzing the empirical base of the research and explore the historical and documentary sources of the Database of Theses and Dissertations of Brazilian Institute of Science and Technology (BDTD) of the IBICIT - having as a historical mark - the time period among 1996 to 2013. I concluded that, among the 27 historical works examined, there is plentiful and cyclical historiographical production, with different historical, technical, methodological and theoretical-conceptual designs that paradoxically led 74.6% of these works to move from a formal educational perspective, limited, domesticating, conservative and in the service of capital order maintenance, while other 26.4% of this production were developed with authorial placement of critical bias, radically discordant of the current social organization and its legitimating discourses showing up with that worried about total destruction of the deprivation of liberty and the purpose of a radically transformed society.<br>A pesquisa efetivou uma análise crítica historiográfica acerca do fenômeno educacional, buscando entender e explicitar as configurações, organização histórica, técnico-metodológica, perspectivas e paradoxos contidos na historiografia educacional materializada em teses e dissertações que foram produzidas na área de educação, cujos historiadores educacionais elegeram como temática de estudo a educação escolar do adolescente em situação de privação de liberdade no Brasil. Suas finalidades específicas consistiram em: sob a perspectiva da Historiografia, analisar os conceitos de educação escolar, adolescência e privação de liberdade; identificar as formas assumidas pela produção científica, cuja historiografia teve como cerne a educação escolar de adolescente em situação de privação de liberdade; discutir os aspectos históricos, técnico-metodológicos da historiografia educacional consolidada em teses e dissertações sobre a educação escolar de adolescente em situação de privação de liberdade no Brasil; identificar e analisar as perspectivas e paradoxos que permearam a historiografia educacional, priorizando como objeto de estudo a educação escolar do adolescente em situação de privação de liberdade. Como a historiografia definiu conceitualmente educação escolar, adolescência e privação de liberdade? Quais configurações assumiram a produção científica e historiográfica que versou sobre educação escolar de adolescente em situação de privação de liberdade? Como se organizaram histórico e técnicometodologicamente as produções científicas traduzidas na historiografia educacional que priorizou como objeto de estudo a educação de adolescente em situação de privação de liberdade? Quais perspectivas e paradoxos sobre inclusão educacional foram narrados pelos autores da historiografia educacional que assumiram como temática central a educação escolar do adolescente em situação de privação de liberdade? Recorri ao campo da historiografia educacional com o apoio da crítica oriunda de interpretações marxistas que permitiram realizar a revisão bibliográfica sobre o tema, analisar a base empírica da investigação e explorar as fontes históricas e documentais do Banco de Teses e Dissertações do Instituto Brasileiro de Ciência e Tecnologia – BDTD do IBICIT - tendo como marco histórico-temporal o período entre 1996 a 2013. Concluí que, dentre as 27 obras históricas examinadas, existe farta e cíclica produção historiográfica, com delineamentos históricos, técnico-metodológicos e teórico-conceituais diferentes, os quais paradoxalmente conduziram 74,6% desses trabalhos a se moverem a partir de uma ótica educacional formal, limitada, domesticadora, conservadora e a serviço da manutenção da ordem do capital, enquanto outros 26,4% dessa produção se desenvolveram com posicionamentos autorais de viés crítico, radicalmente discordante da atual organização social e de seus discursos legitimadores mostrando-se, com isso, preocupada com a destruição total da privação da liberdade e os fins de uma sociedade radicalmente transformada.

Para tanto, serão analisados quatro projetos na área social e as suas peculiaridades em termos de interação institucional, objetivos e resultados. Um projeto foi definido para cada agência, conforme se segue: Projeto "Pró-Gavião", realizado pela Companhia de Desenvolvimento e Ação Regional (CAR) em parceria com o Fundo Internacional de Desenvolvimento Agrícola (FIDA); Projeto "Promovendo Direitos de Jovens: Cultura e Saúde Sexual e Reprodutiva em Salvador", realizado pela Secretaria Municipal de Educação, Cultura, Esporte e Lazer da capital baiana junto ao Fundo de População das Nações Unidas (UNFPA); Programa "Ministério Público e os Objetivos do Milênio: Saúde e Educação de Qualidade para Todos", executado pelo Ministério Público do Estado da Bahia em conjunto com o Programa das Nações Unidas para o Desenvolvimento (PNUD); e Selo UNICEF Município Aprovado, desenvolvido pelo Fundo das Nações Unidas para a Infância com inúmeros municípios baianos. A partir de uma explanação sobre o papel da ONU no mundo, compreendido através de uma discussão sobre a reforma desta organização, buscou-se explicitar as características da cooperação internacional observáveis localmente a partir de categorias conceituais definidas pelos campos da Administração e das Relações Internacionais. Os resultados do estudo evidenciam quais desses conceitos foram comprovados ou relativizados, permitindo-se uma conclusão que desvela algumas certezas sobre as interações entre organizações internacionais e atores públicos locais. This research aims to understand the interplay between local government agencies linked to social policies development and the international cooperation in this area through projects carried out by (or in partnerships with) United Nations in Bahia from 1996 until 2013. In order to achieve this, four projects developed in the social police sector will be analyzed in it's institutional interactions peculiarities, goals and results. For each UN agency, one project was picked: "Pró-Gavião" Project, carried out by the Company for Regional Development and Action (CAR) in a partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD); "Promovendo Direitos de Jovens: Cultura e Saúde Sexual e Reprodutiva em Salvador" Project, carried out by the City Department of Education, Culture, Sport and Recreation of Salvador together with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA); "Ministério Público e os Objetivos do Milênio: Saúde e Educação de Qualidade para Todos" Programme, implemented by the Public Ministry of the State of Bahia along with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); and "Selo UNICEF Município Aprovado" Initiative, developed by the United Nations Children's Fund with numerous municipalities in Bahia. From an explanation about the role of the United Nations in the international system, understood through a discussion on the reform of this organization, we attempted to explain the observable characteristics of international cooperation locally from conceptual categories defined by the fields of Administration and International Relations. The results of the study show that these concepts were proven or relativized, allowing a conclusion that reveals some certainties about the interactions between international organizations and local public actors.

Abstract:
Näringsämnena har en stor betydelse för sötvattnets organismer och ekosystem, varav de vanligaste näringsämnena som även är de viktigaste är fosfor (P), kväve (N) samt kol (C). Näringsämnena kommer inte enbart till sjön via nedfall och fixering utav mycket av näringsämnena kommer in till en sjö via vattendrag som till exempel älvar där Klarälven räknas in som en av Sveriges älvar. Syftet med denna studie är att ta fram en tidstrend mellan åren 1996 och 2013 för näringsämnena totalfosfor, totalkväve och TOC (totalt organiskt kol) för tio lokaler i norra Vänern för att kunna avgöra om de är lika, om det är något år som sticker ut, om det finns någon påverkan av Klarälven för de sjölokaler som tas upp och se om värdena av näringshalter kan kopplas till fiskförekomsten. Data samlades in och plottades i diagram för att kunna jämföras med varandra. Med sjölokalernas näringsvärde gjordes korrelationstester med älvarnas näringshalter för att se samband och därefter gjorde korrelation med sjölokalernas näringsvärden med andelen skördad fisk i samma lokaler. Resultatet visade att Ölman och Ölmeviken är väldigt eutrofierade medan resterande lokaler hade oligotrofa eller mesotrofa vatten och översvämningen i Karlstad 2000 visade avtryck i tidstrenden. Klarälvens påverkan på sjölokalerna visade sig inte vara så stor utan samband upptäcktes enbart mellan Kaplansådran och Hammarösjön för totalkvävet och för TOC upptäcktes samband mellan Hammarösjön och Sätterholmsfjärden med Kaplansådran.<br>The nutrient is very important for fresh water organisms and ecosystems, of which the most common nutrients also is the most important is phosphorus (P), nitrogen (N) and carbon (C). The nutrients will not only come into a lake through deposition and fixation, much of the nutrients is coming into the lake through rivers such as Klarälven in Sweden. The purpose of this study is to develop a temporal and spatial trend during 1996-2013 for the nutrients total phosphorus, total nitrogen and TOC (total organic carbon) for ten premises in northern Lake Vänern to determine if they are equal, if it is a year that stands out from the rest, if there is any influence of Klarälven for the lake premises and see if the values of the nutrient concentrations can be linked to the presence of fish. Data were collected and plotted in graphs to be compared with each other. Correlation test was made with the lake premises nutrient values and rivers nutrient value to see if there was a connection between the locations, same correlation was also made between the lake premises nutrient values and the percentage of fish harvested in the same premises. The result showed that Ölman and Ölmeviken is very eutrophic, while the remaining premises hade oligotrophic or mesotrophic water and the flooding in Karlstad in 2000 showed imprint in the time trend. The impact of Klarälven on the lake premises proved to not be so great, but the context was detected only between Kaplansådran and Hammarösjön for the total nitrogen and correlation for TOC between Hammarösjön and Sätterholmsfjärden with Kaplansådran was also detected.

Nestes dezoito anos, políticas educacionais foram desenvolvidas, tanto no âmbito nacional quanto no âmbito local, visando a propiciar condições necessárias ao atendimento às crianças de 0 a 5 anos na primeira etapa da Educação Básica, como prescrito nas legislações federais. Nesse sentido, busquei compreender como o Município de Juiz de Fora se organizou para elaborar e implementar as políticas públicas municipais a favor da Educação Infantil após 1996. Para tanto, a escolha metodológica foi a abordagem denominada Ciclo de Política, formulada pelo sociólogo inglês Stephen Ball e por seus colaboradores (Bowe, Ball e Gold, 1992; Ball, 1994), que consiste em investigar os processos pelos quais as políticas educacionais são formadas, implementadas e experimentadas. Foram realizadas análises de documentos; entrevistas semiestruturadas com sujeitos protagonistas das políticas públicas e leitura de notícias de jornais locais. Os estudos sobre Educação Infantil, políticas públicas, regime de colaboração, financiamento da educação, embasados nos seguintes autores: Jamil Cury, Marcelino Pinto, Sônia Kramer, Maria Malta Campos, Moises Kuhlmann Jr, FulviaRosemberg, Fernando Abrúcio,Zilma Oliveira, entre outros. Foi possível perceber que as ações do poder público municipal foram influenciadas pelo contexto nacional e se concentraram na elaboração de legislações que regulamentassem a Educação Infantil no município de Juiz de Fora, na instituição de políticas de formação e da elaboração da proposta curricular. Outras demandas como a expansão do número de vagas e a construção de novos prédios são condicionadas, também, pelo financiamento, o que se torna um complicador, quando os recursos aplicados para essa etapa educacional são insuficientes. São ações que exigem decisões políticas e financeiras que vão além dos limites da ação municipal. Percebi a fragilidade da política pública quando explicitei a relação da SE-JF com as Creches Comunitárias, antes situadas no campo da Assistência. Percebemos que as concepções presentes a partir de 1996, nas legislações municipais, pautaram-se na EI como um direito da criança pequena e responsabilidade municipal. Os espaços pensados para atender às necessidades das crianças, os eventos de formação e o aumento do investimento público na Educação Infantil, evidenciam a centralidade do processo na criança. Infere-se que esse processo de organização de uma oferta pública é formador de uma nova mentalidade sobre a educação das crianças pequenas e sobre o papel propositivo e realizador do poder público.<br>It has been object of this academic work the public policies for Early Childhood Education in Juiz de Fora County from 1996 to 2013. In these eighteen years, educational policies have been developed, both nationally and locally, in order to provide conditions needed to 0-5 year-old children for the first stage of Basic Education, as it is required by the federal legislation. In this sense, I have tried to understand how the Juiz de Fora County organized itself to elaborate and implement municipal public policies in favor to the early Childhood Education after 1996. Therefore, the methodological choice was the approach called Cycle Policy, formulated by the British sociologist Stephen Ball and by his employees (Bowe, Ball and Gold, 1992; Ball, 1994), consisting of investigating the processes by which educational policies are formed, implemented and experienced. It was carried out analysis of available documents, semi-structured interviews with subjects protagonists of public policy; and reading of the news from local newspapers. We have used in this thesis, the study on Early Childhood Education, public policy, collaborative arrangements, education funding, founded on the following authors: Jamil CuryMarcelino Pinto, Sonia Kramer, Maria Malta Campos,MoisesKuhlmannJr,FulviaRosemberg, Fernando Abrucio,Zilma Oliveira, among others. It was possible to realize that the actions of the municipal government focused on drafting laws regulating the Early Childhood Education at Juiz de Fora municipality;on the institution of training policies and on the elaboration of curriculum proposal. Other demands such as expanding the number of places and the construction of new buildings are conditioned also by the funding, which becomes a complication when the resources used for this educational stage are insufficient. They are actions that require financial and political decisions that go beyond the limits of action municipal. I have noticed the fragility of public policy when I have explained the relationship of SE-JF with the Community Kindergartens, before situated in the field of assistance. We have perceived that the present conceptions from 1996 in municipal legislation were based on EI as a right of the small child and a municipal responsibility. The spaces designed to meet the needs of children, the training events and the increased public investment in Early Childhood Education, highlighting the centrality of the process in children. It is inferred that this process of organizing a public offering is forming a new mentality on the education of young children and on the propositional and director role of the government.

A escolaridade materna tem sido amplamente reconhecida como um indicador das condições ambientais e sociais que afetam o peso ao nascer. No entanto, embora o assunto seja considerado relevante, não foram realizados estudos no Brasil que investigaram a relação da escolaridade materna sobre o peso de nascimento numa perspectiva temporal. O presente estudo avaliou as médias de peso ao nascer conforme os diferentes níveis de escolaridade materna. Trata-se de um estudo de série temporal que incluiu os nascidos vivos das 27 capitais estaduais brasileiras no período de 1996 a 2013. Os dados foram obtidos por meio do Sistema de Informação de Nascidos Vivos (SINASC) donde foram incluídos os recém-nascidos vivos únicos, com peso entre 500 e 8.000 gramas, de mães que residiam e tiveram seus partos nas capitais. As médias de peso ao nascer foram calculadas ano a ano nos três níveis de escolaridade materna – alto (≥ 12 anos), médio (8 a 11 anos) e baixo (< 8 anos). A estimativa da diferença anual de peso entre os níveis de escolaridade foi desenvolvida utilizando-se a técnica de Modelos Lineares Mistos, na qual também foram inseridas as covariáveis, idade da mãe, número de filhos nascidos vivos anteriores, número de consultas de pré-natal, duração da gestação e tipo de parto, de modo a avaliar seu impacto nas diferenças de peso ao nascer. O processamento e análise dos dados foram realizados pelo Programa “Statistical Package for Social Sciences” (SPSS) – versão 18.0. Foram analisados 12.546.282 de nascidos vivos que representaram 23,2% do total de nascimentos do país. As maiores médias anuais de peso ao nascer em relação à região geográfica foram observadas na região Norte e as menores, na região Sudeste, sendo que este padrão foi mantido durante todo o período avaliado. Em relação às médias de peso, segundo o nível de escolaridade materna, verificou-se que, no início da série, a média entre os filhos das mulheres com alta escolaridade era superior à dos filhos de mães de média e baixa, com 35 gramas e 91 gramas de diferença respectivamente. Essa diferença foi sendo reduzida e, a partir do ano de 2007, a média dos filhos das mulheres com escolaridade média foi maior do que a dos filhos das mulheres com alta escolaridade, com manutenção deste padrão até o final do período analisado, quando foi 17 gramas superior. A diferença de peso entre a alta e a baixa escolaridade também foi sendo reduzida e, em 2013, foi de 13 gramas. As análises ajustadas para o ano e região de nascimento mostraram que, no período de 1996 a 2003, as diferenças do peso ao nascer entre a média e a baixa escolaridade em relação à alta eram 7,21 gramas/ano e 11,42 gramas/ano, respectivamente; no segundo período, de 2004 a 2013, essas diferenças foram reduzidas para 1,76 gramas/ano e 1,47 gramas/ano. Quando inseridas as demais covariáveis, se evidenciou que o número de consultas de pré-natal exibiu relação positiva em reduzir a diferença de peso entre os três níveis de escolaridade materna, nos dois períodos analisados. Os ajustes efetuados para as covariáveis, idade da mãe, número de filhos nascidos vivos, duração da gestação e tipo de parto, mostraram diferente desempenho nas estimativas da diferença de peso ao nascer entre os níveis de escolaridade materna e o período avaliado, apontando as mudanças demográficas, sociais e assistencias do país, que evidenciaram aumento da faixa etária materna e da primiparidade, assim como uma elevação da prematuridade e de partos cesarianos. Os resultados revelaram as transformações observadas no país nas duas últimas décadas nos diferentes estratos sociais, fazendo diminuir as diferenças de peso ao nascimento e marcando uma transição demográfica, epidemiológica e perinatal em todas as regiões, mesmo que, em diferentes estágios. A redução na diferença de peso entre os três níveis de escolaridade materna, ocorreu principalmente devido à diminuição nos estratos mais favorecidos, pois a elevação observada nas médias de peso dos filhos das mulheres com baixa escolaridade foi pequena, mesmo com a ampliação das políticas sociais neste estrato. Devido à relação multifatorial do peso ao nascer é possível que o aumento da idade materna e a existência de comorbidades prévias ou desenvolvidas durante a gestação, a maior utilização de intervenções médicas, uso de substâncias como álcool e tabaco, a presença de sobrepeso e obesidade, assim como deficiências nutricionais, possam ter relação com as médias de peso observadas. Destacou-se a relevância na utilização do Sistema de Informações sobre Nascidos Vivos permitindo conhecer e analisar as caraterísticas dos nascimentos no Brasil, como também o desafio de aprimorar a assistência materno-infantil com vistas à obtenção de melhores resultados em todos os estratos sociais.<br>Maternal schooling has been widely recognized as an indicator of environmental and social conditions that affect birth weight. Although the subject is considered of significant relevance, studies that investigated the influence of maternal schooling on birth weight in a temporal perspective have not yet been conducted in Brazil. The present research evaluated the means of birth weight according to the different levels of maternal schooling. It is a time-series study that included live births throughout the 27 state capitals of Brazil in the period from 1996 to 2013. Data were obtained from the National Information System of Live Birth (SINASC), which recorded single newborns weighing between 500 and 8,000 grams of mothers who had their children in the capitals. The mean birth weight was calculated year by year against three levels of maternal education - high (≥ 12 years), medium (8-11 years) and low (< 8 years). Estimated annual weight difference between the levels of education was developed using the Linear Mixed Models technique, in which covariate maternal age, number of previous live births, number of prenatal visits, duration of gestation and type of delivery evaluate their impact on differences in birth weight. The processing and analysis of data were performed by the program "Statistical Package for Social Sciences" (SPSS) - version 18.0. A total of 12,546,282 live births were analyzed during the 18-year period, representing 23.2% of the country's total births. The highest annual average birth weight in relation to the geographical region was observed in the Northern region and the lowest in the Southeastern region, and this pattern was maintained throughout the studied period. Regarding weight averages, considered against the level of maternal schooling, results show that the average among the children of women with high schooling was higher than that of the children of mothers of medium and low, with 35 grams and 91 grams of difference, respectively. This difference was later reduced and, from the year 2007, the average of the children of women with medium education was higher than that of children of women with high education, maintaining this standard by the end of the period analyzed, when the birth weight difference was 17 grams higher. The difference in weight between high and low schooling was also reduced, and in 2013, it was 13 grams. The analyzes adjusted for year and region of birth showed that, in the period from 1996 to 2003, the differences in birth weight between the medium and the low education in relation to high were 7.21 grams/year and 11.42 grams/year, respectively. In the period from 2004 to 2013, these differences were reduced to 1.76 grams/year and 1.47 grams/year. When the other covariates were considered, it was evident that the number of prenatal visits has a positive relation in the reduction of the weight difference between the three levels of maternal education, in the two periods analyzed. However, the adjustments for covariates, mother's age, number of previous live births, duration of pregnancy and mode of delivery, showed dissimilar effects on annual differences in weight between the different levels of maternal education, in both periods evaluated. These results are related to the demographic, social and assistance changes of the country, which evidenced an increase in maternal age and primiparity, as well as prematurity increase and cesarean deliveries. The findings revealed the changes observed in the country in the last two decades in the various social strata, reducing weight differences at birth and marking a demographic, epidemiological and pe This was probably because the observed increase in the average weight of children of women with low education was modest, even with the expansion of maternal schooling and the prenatal follow-up verified in this social stratum. Thus, the changes in maternal age and parity, together with the increase in medical interventions, as demonstrated by the percentage of cesarean delivery, negatively impacted the birth weight of the three levels of education. It is possible that other factors not investigated in this study also play a role in the reduction of weight differences between the different levels of mother's education. Among these factors can be mentioned the existence of previous or developed maternal diseases during pregnancy, hypertension and diabetes, malnutrition or maternal obesity, use of licit and illicit drugs during pregnancy, as well as the quality of prenatal care received. Results also indicate the relevance of using the Information System on Live Births to know and analyze the characteristics of births in Brazil, as well as the challenge of improving maternal and childcare across in all social strata.

However, she was essential to assure the colonists’ stay in the land to be pioneered. Many of the settlers had the feminine presence as an anchor to strengthen their stay in the “New World”. After the wedding ceremony, the woman was responsible for taking care of the house, being a good wife and an excellent mother, according to the ideology imposed by Church, which corroborated the patriarchal vision of the colonizing metropolis prevailing that time. Starting from this historical situation, the present research proposes reflexions and analyses about the insertion theme of the white European woman in the “New World”. Our purpose is to present, throughout an analysis of the books Desmundo (1996), by Ana Miranda, and Bride of New France (2013), by Suzanne Desrochers, how each one builds a symbolic representation of this process of displacement, strangeness and adaptation to a new reality of the white European woman in the beginning of the Brazilian colonization period, in the sixteenth century, and of the Canadian, in the seventeenth century, respectively, under the auspices of the historical novel. We also aim to analyze if the leading characters, Oribela de Mendo Curvo and Laure Beauséjour, keep their received instruction by the institutions that housed them or if their conceptions change when they start living in the “New World”, and to verify the confrontation of these literary visions with the official discourse. Based on this, we aim to show how the voices of the “orphans of the queen”, from Portugal, and the “king’s daughters”, from France, reflected in the literary discourse, can differ from the historiographic discourse and reveal new perspectives from this past. The research we did was supported by Comparative Literature. Authors like Afonso Costa (1946), Rodolfo Garcia (1946), Jim Sharpe (1992), Gilmei Francisco Fleck (2007, 2011, 2014, 2017), Aimie K. Runyan (2010), and Marcia A. Zug (2016) are used as theoretical support for the historical contextualization of the facts reread by fiction, and to establish the specific modalities of the historical novel in which the corpus is inserted. As a result of this investigational procedure, this research sheds light on the historical vision about the white European woman insertion in our continent. When highlighting the woman’s participation in this historical process, we observed the hybrid narratives of history and fiction update the theme and present a critical rereading of the events in relation to the happenings of the past perpetrated by the writing of historiography.<br>Desde o princípio dos registros sobre a colonização das Américas, a mulher foi considerada inferior e submissa ao homem pela visão judaico-cristã e eurofalocêntrica presente no discurso historiográfico que consignou a versão oficial desse passado. Entretanto, ela foi agente fundamental para assegurar a permanência dos colonizadores no território a ser desbravado. Muitos dos “conquistadores” tiveram a presença feminina como âncora para fortalecer sua permanência no “Novo Mundo”. Após o casamento, à mulher cabia cuidar do lar, ser boa esposa e ótima mãe, segundo a ideologia imposta pela Igreja, a qual corroborava a visão patriarcal das metrópoles colonizadoras reinantes na época. A partir dessa conjuntura histórica, a presente pesquisa propõe reflexões e análises acerca do tema da inserção da mulher europeia no “Novo Mundo”. Nosso objetivo é apresentar, por meio da análise das obras Desmundo (1996), de Ana Miranda, e Bride of New France (2013), de Suzanne Desrochers, como cada obra constrói uma representação simbólica desse processo de deslocamento, estranhamento e adaptação a uma nova realidade da mulher branca europeia no início da colonização brasileira, no século XVI, e na canadense, no século XVII, respectivamente, sob a égide do romance histórico. Propomo-nos, também, a analisar se as personagens protagonistas, Oribela do Mendo Curvo e Laure Beauséjour, mantém a instrução recebida pelas instituições que as abrigavam ou se suas concepções se transformam quando passam a viver no “Novo Mundo”; bem como verificar os enfrentamentos dessas visões literárias com o discurso oficial. Nesse intento, buscamos mostrar como as vozes das “órfãs da rainha”, de Portugal, e as “filhas do rei”, da França, refletidas no discurso literário, podem divergir do discurso historiográfico e revelar novas perspectivas desse passado. A pesquisa que realizamos amparou-se na Literatura Comparada. Autores como Afonso Costa (1946), Rodolfo Garcia (1946), Jim Sharpe (1992), Gilmei Francisco Fleck (2007, 2011, 2014, 2017), Aimie K. Runyan (2010), e Marcia A. Zug (2016) são utilizados como aporte teórico para a contextualização histórica dos fatos relidos pela ficção e para estabelecer as especificidades da modalidade do romance histórico na qual as obras do corpus se inserem. Como resultado deste processo de investigação, esta pesquisa lança luz sobre a visão da história a respeito da inserção da mulher branca europeia em nosso continente. Ao colocar em evidência a participação da mulher nesse processo histórico, observamos que as narrativas híbridas de história e ficção reatualizam o tema e apresentam uma releitura crítica dos eventos em relação aos acontecimentos do passado perpetrados pela escrita da historiografia.

This chapter examines Crystal Dynamics' 2013 Tomb Raider reboot, arguing that the game makes use of intertextual references to the original Core Design Tomb Raider (1996) and popular culture archaeology in an effort to revise the original franchise's exploitative depiction of both Lara Croft and archaeological practice. Framed by a theoretical understanding of Orientalism (Said, 1979) and the constraints of symbolic order (Kristeva, 1986a) and the recognition that video games in general and the Tomb Raider franchise in specific are “games of empire” (Dyer-Witheford &amp; de Peuter, 2009), it becomes clear that the 2013 Tomb Raider ultimately fails to escape the constraints of imperial procedural semiotics.

Under the most common interpretation, Old English hwæt, the very first word of the epic poem Beowulf, is to be considered as an interjection (e.g. Lo!). After discussing two theoretical positions that depart from this traditional assumption, i.e. the exclamative hypothesis (Walkden 2013) and the pragmatic marker hypothesis (Brinton 1996, 2017), this study aims at taking into consideration the hermeneutical and translational implications of the aforementioned theories. It will also be claimed that a virtuous synthesis of the two positions is not impossible; therefore, new translations of ancient texts are called for, in which such synthesis can be pursued.

In recent years, structure of world trade is transformed to intra-industry trade (IIT) that is defined as the import and export of similar commodities. The transformation of foreign trade structure has led to increase either theoretical or empirical studies on IIT. A large part of the empirical studies on international trade deals with gravity model for explaining the determinants of foreign trade. According to gravity model, trade between countries, is affected negatively to the distance between them and positively to the size of the country. Similar statements can be used in terms of the determinants of IIT. Therefore, this study will be carried out determinants of IIT with using the gravity model.&#x0D; In this paper, determinants of intra-industry trade in manufacturing sectors between Turkey and European Union (EU) 15 countries will be estimated by panel data regression analysis in 1996-2013 periods. The results of this study indicate that market size and foreign direct investments have positive effects and distance between countries and real effective exchange rate have negative effects on Turkey’s manufacturing sector IIT with EU 15.

15 failures of offshore mooring lines have occurred in the period 2010–2013 on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The failures are cause by a mixture of overload, fatigue and mechanical damages. Failure statistics from the period 2010–2013 are presented and compared it with earlier statistics. In the period 1996–2005 a high number of cases were observed. The industry reacted reasonably, and the number of incidents was clearly reduced for several years. In 2010 the number of cases started to increase again, rising questions on how to improve again. Some of the old failure modes have disappeared, as dragging of anchors and failures of chains above 20 years of age. But several other failure modes have appeared or reappeared. Differences between different types of units are found. The failure frequencies are highly uncertain, but the failure rate from 2010–2013 have been in the order of magnitude • single line failures: 92*10−4 per line year and • double line failures: 12*10−4 per line year. No triple line failures have occurred in 2010–2013, but using data from 2000–2013, the failure rate have been in the order of magnitude 2*10−4 per line year. The paper discusses possible changes in practice, regulations and standards, on quality of materials, maintenance, ALS-, FLS- and ULS-design.

Making Sense is a European Commission H2020 funded project which aims at supporting participatory sensing initiatives that address environmental challenges in areas such as noise and air pollution. The development of Making Sense was informed by previous research on a crowdfunded open source platform for environmental sensing, SmartCitizen.me, developed at the Fab Lab Barcelona. Insights from this research identified several deterrents for a wider uptake of participatory sensing initiatives due to social and technical matters. For example, the participants struggled with the lack of social interactions, a lack of consensus and shared purpose amongst the group, and a limited understanding of the relevance the data had in their daily lives (Balestrini et al., 2014; Balestrini et al., 2015). As such, Making Sense seeks to explore if open source hardware, open source software and and open design can be used to enhance data literacy and maker practices in participatory sensing. Further to this, Making Sense tests methodologies aimed at empowering individuals and communities through developing a greater understanding of their environments and by supporting a culture of grassroot initiatives for action and change. To do this, Making Sense identified a need to underpin sensing with community building activities and develop strategies to inform and enable those participating in data collection with appropriate tools and skills. As Fetterman, Kaftarian and Wanderman (1996) state, citizens are empowered when they understand evaluation and connect it in a way that it has relevance to their lives. Therefore, this report examines the role that these activities have in participatory sensing. Specifically, we discuss the opportunities and challenges in using the concept of Community Level Indicators (CLIs), which are measurable and objective sources of information gathered to complement sensor data. We describe how CLIs are used to develop a more indepth understanding of the environmental problem at hand, and to record, monitor and evaluate the progress of change during initiatives. We propose that CLIs provide one way to move participatory sensing beyond a primarily technological practice and towards a social and environmental practice. This is achieved through an increased focus in the participants’ interests and concerns, and with an emphasis on collective problem solving and action. We position our claims against the following four challenge areas in participatory sensing: 1) generating and communicating information and understanding (c.f. Loreto, 2017), 2) analysing and finding relevance in data (c.f. Becker et al., 2013), 3) building community around participatory sensing (c.f. Fraser et al., 2005), and 4) achieving or monitoring change and impact (c.f. Cheadle et al., 2000). We discuss how the use of CLIs can tend to these challenges. Furthermore, we report and assess six ways in which CLIs can address these challenges and thereby support participatory sensing initiatives: i. Accountability ii. Community assessment iii. Short-term evaluation iv. Long-term evaluation v. Policy change vi. Capability The report then returns to the challenge areas and reflects on the learnings and recommendations that are gleaned from three Making Sense case studies. Afterwhich, there is an exposition of approaches and tools developed by Making Sense for the purposes of advancing participatory sensing in this way. Lastly, the authors speak to some of the policy outcomes that have been realised as a result of this research.
