Abstract This article evaluates the debated placements of fragments in the reconstruction of the War Scroll from Cave 1 (1QM). There are three fragments (frags. 3, 9, 10) and one large fragment cluster (1QM 2, 8, DSSHU pl. 34; 1Q33 2) that are contested in 1QM scholarship. These placements are important for establishing the text of 1QM and the determination of whether there was another War Scroll from Cave 1 among the fragments assigned to 1QM and 1Q33. I will evaluate the remaining debates about fragment placements in 1QM, focusing especially on Hanan and Esther Eshel’s proposal (2000) that t

Abstract This essay presents the results of an extended study of verbal argument structure in the War Scroll (1QM). I first establish a method based in generative linguistic theory. I then illustrate this method with a discussion of the argument structure of Qal ‮יצא‬‎ in 1QM and other Dead Sea Scrolls. Following this case study, I present the data from 1QM on verb argument structure—specifically, instances where 1QM adds evidence that is not covered in previous studies of the Dead Sea Scrolls. 1QM presents few developments from earlier Hebrew; I argue that such continuity is significant. AbstractIn studies of Qumran Hebrew, syntax has been somewhat neglected. The present study attempts to help fill in our understanding of QH syntax, and word order specifically. The data of 1QM can best be explained using a Subject-Verb model. However, the model is not perfect. Consideration of the strange word order patterns of and leads to a revision of the SV model, which is better able to account for all the word order phenomena in 1QM. The basic word order of 1QM is best described as Subject-Verb, with inversion triggered by the fronting of a non-subject element or by the use of an intrans

Abstract The rhetorical flourish of 1QM 13:14 has been interpreted as a reminder that the ultimate resource of the sectarian community is not an angel but the God of Israel. This reading, however, stands in tension with the many sections of the War Scroll that look expectantly to the eschaton for the martial “help” of the angels. This study will develop a lesser-known understanding of 1QM 13:14: that no angel can compare to the “help” appointed by God, namely, the Prince of Light/Michael. AbstractAs the product of a textual community imbedded in an oral culture, the War Scroll can be rewardingly approached as a composition intended for a community of hearers. Indeed, this article demonstrates that 1QM retained an orally fluid textuality and preserves a variety of textual indicators of performativity: hints of oral engagement, accumulation of imitable practices, and reliance on rhetorical techniques suited to the ear. In examining the performative potentials in the War Scroll’s prescriptive (cols. 1–9), prayer (cols. 10–14), and dramatic (cols. 15–19) material, I argue that 1QM

The purpose of this article is to explore what kind of light apocalyptic eschatology can shed on our understanding of Paul’s argumentation in 2 Cor 10–13. The focus is on 2 Cor 10:3–6, where Paul, using the topos of holy war, describes his struggle against the opponents in Corinth. The apostle elaborates on a biblical theme, which also appears in Jewish apocalyptic texts, such as 1QM and T. 12. Patr. Comparing 2 Corinthians with this literature allows us to see certain similarities: the performative nature of 2 Cor and 1QM; the radical division into the servants of light and the servants of da

Methods: In this retrospective study, we analyzed data from 122 KTRs confirmed to have COVID-19. Results: The mean age in patients with mild COVID-19 disease was 37.1 ± 9.1 years, whereas those with moderate and severe disease were 44.7 ± 13.7 and 48.1 ± 11.2 years, respectively (P = 0.02). Abstract This contribution offers a critical evaluation of John Screnock’s hypothesis that the basic word order in 1QM is subject-verb, with inversion triggered by fronting of non-subject elements or by the use of intransitive verbs. After a detailed examination of the evidence, the opposite conclusion is reached. Basic word order is verb-subject, with inversion to subject-verb order with pragmatically marked subjects (focus fronting). There seems to be no causal relationship between transitivity and word order. Furthermore, it is argued that Screnock’s interpretation of 1QM 1:1–3 (which flows

Abstract:
Strategic alliances have been growing in popularity among firms over the past 10 years. The basis for the formation of truly strategic alliance has been presented by several authors who use the theoretical foundations that are popular in strategic management, in particular the resource-based theory of the firm, organizational learning theory and industrial organizational economics. Still, little has been said about why these alliances are sustained. This paper takes those same theoretical bases and constructs a basic set of propositions about the continuation of strategic alliances.

In this work, we develop effective field theory (EFT) methods for the study of a wide variety of condensed matter systems, including superfluids, ordinary fluids, solids, and supersolids. As a first application, we focus on the dynamics of vortex lines in trapped superfluid condensates, studying their precessional motion and working out the frequency of precession from EFT principles. We consider the effects of trapping in two and three dimensions, as well as implications of trapping for the dispersion relation of Kelvin waves along superfluid vortex lines. Abstract:
The following thesis comprises a systematic, synchronic study of the term בְּרִית (berîṯ, covenant) in the book of Daniel, the Damascus Document, the Community Rule (Serekhha- Yaḥad), the Hymn Scroll (Hodayot) and the War Scroll (Milḥamah). The basic text used for Daniel is the BHS, and for the Dead Sea Scrolls the Dead Sea Scrolls Electronic Library, supplemented by other editions. Apart from an introduction (chapter 1), the work is divided into two sections. The second chapter begins with a discussion of some introductory matters, such as the dating and purpose of the book of Daniel.
