Abstract:
We study the reinforcement learning problem of complex action control in the Multi-player Online Battle Arena (MOBA) 1v1 games. This problem involves far more complicated state and action spaces than those of traditional 1v1 games, such as Go and Atari series, which makes it very difficult to search any policies with human-level performance. In this paper, we present a deep reinforcement learning framework to tackle this problem from the perspectives of both system and algorithm. Our system is of low coupling and high scalability, which enables efficient explorations at large scale. Our algorithm includes several novel strategies, including control dependency decoupling, action mask, target attention, and dual-clip PPO, with which our proposed actor-critic network can be effectively trained in our system. Tested on the MOBA game Honor of Kings, the trained AI agents can defeat top professional human players in full 1v1 games.

Abstract:
The performance of football players within game context can be analyzed based on their ability to break or (re)balance the attacker-defender dyad. In this context, the analysis of each sub-phase (e.g., 1v1, 2v2) presents a feature that needs to be taken into account in sports analysis. This study aims to investigate the interpersonal dynamics dyad formed by the attacker and the defender in 1v1 situations with a goalkeeper. A sample of 11 football male players (age: 17.91 ± 1.04 years) with 8.6 ± 1.52 years of practice experience participated in the study. Analyzing the 1v1 sub-phase, results show that the distance, speed and angular amplitude between the attacker and the defender increases, especially when the attacker attempts to overtake the defender (i.e., score a goal). We conclude that decision-making emerges from the perception that players draw from the action, actively and consistently interacting to find solutions to emerging problems within the game context

Abstract:
Exercise has been shown to acutely elevate several metabolic processes in tendon tissue, including collagen turnover and blood flow, and chronically induce changes in tendon properties. Many of these acute metabolic responses to exercise are regulated by the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes. We measured the expression levels of COX-1 [variants 1 and 2 (COX-1v1 and COX-1v2)], COX-2, and the recently discovered intron 1-retaining COX-1 variants (COX-1b1, COX-1b2, and COX-1b3) at rest and after resistance exercise (RE). Patellar tendon biopsy samples were taken from six individuals (3 men and 3 women) before and 4 h after a bout of RE (3 sets of 10 repetitions at ∼70% of 1 repetition maximum) and from a separate group of six individuals (3 men and 3 women) before and 24 h after RE and analyzed by real-time RT-PCR. The COX-1 variants were the most abundant COX mRNAs before exercise and remained unchanged ( P > 0.05) after exercise. COX-2 was also expressed in tendon tissue at rest and was unchanged ( P > 0.05) after exercise. The intron 1-retaining COX-1 variants were not detectable in tendon tissue before or after exercise. COX-1 and COX-2 were expressed at much higher levels by the patellar tendon than by quadriceps skeletal muscle, although the overall COX mRNA expression patterns were similar in skeletal muscle and tendon (COX-1v2 > COX-1v1, P < 0.05; ratio of COX-1 to COX-2 ≅ 4:1). These results suggest that COX-1 and COX-2 are constitutively expressed at relatively high levels in human patellar tendon and are likely targets of COX-inhibiting drugs at rest and after physical activity.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction. Football training should be organized in view of the requirements of contemporary sports and should be analyzed based on data obtained by observing the best teams in action. The goal of this study was to compare the frequency and effectiveness of selected tactical and technical actions performed by footballers from winning and losing teams in selected matches from the Euro 2008. Material and methods. The study involved close observation of performances by 166 players from 11 countries in 8 matches (Turkey-Czech Republic 3:2; Turkey-Switzerland 2:1; Italy- France 2:0; Holland-France 4:1; Sweden-Greece 2:0; Spain-Sweden 2:1; Germany-Portugal 3:2; Spain-Germany 1:0). The total amount of game observation time equaled 720 minutes. Analysis was conducted by repeatedly viewing DVDs of matches and coding the results on a detailed observational spreadsheet containing a detailed breakdown of offensive actions such as attempting goals, passing the ball or 1v1 attacking. Results and conclusions. Analysis showed that winning teams were more effective in seven out of eight indexes, i.e.: overall effectiveness in offense, effectiveness in attempting goals, overall effectiveness in passing, effectiveness in passing in easy situations, and effectiveness in 1v1 attacking. Losing teams were more effective solely in the index for passing in difficult situations.

Rayner, Russell. "Training and testing of 1v1 agility in Australian football." Thesis, Federation University Australia, 2020. http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/HandleResolver/1959.17/173773.

Full text
Abstract:
Little is known of how agility events occur in the sport of Australian football (AF). As a result, appropriate training and testing methods are unknown. This thesis investigated 1v1 agility in AF to evaluate alternative methods for training and testing agility. The thesis was undertaken in three studies. Study one investigated if training and testing practices used in elite AF align with the demands of competition. A notational analysis revealed substantial variation in movement patterns used by, and the cognitive demands of, athletes in agility events. A survey of high-performance managers in the AFL revealed that a mixture of open and closed training methods are used in elite AF, and that subjective agility assessment is preferred to formal testing. Study two assessed the reliability and ecological validity of a field-based test of attacking and defending agility for AF. The text exhibited excellent inter-rater and intra-rater reliability, as well as moderate test-retest reliability. Characteristics of the test were compared to the notational analysis to assess the ecological validity of the test. While the test did not fully replicate the agility demands of AF, the test improved ecological validity when compared to previous tests described in the literature. Study three evaluated the effectiveness of a four-week 1v1 training intervention for improving attacking and defending agility in Australian footballers. In addition, the study assessed the crossover of attacking training to defending agility and defending training to attacking agility. Improvements in attacking agility were found which were greater for attacking-trained athletes. However, no improvements in defending agility were realised. This thesis indicates that 1v1 training and testing is suitable for assessing and developing agility in Australian footballers. However, 1v1 training may be more suitable for improving attacking agility. Further, agility is context-specific, and testing and training should consider the role of the athlete.

Louie a berkeley.

Ince, Taylor Haden. "Creation in Qohelet Ecclesiastes 1.1-11 as cosmology, national history, and autobiography." Thesis, University of Edinburgh, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/1842/25849.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis is a close reading of Ecclesiastes 1.1-11 in the BHS edition of the MT of Qohelet. Its main contention is that Ecclesiastes 1.3-11 is an exposition of the collocation that ends 1.2, of hakkol hevel, and that consequently, the best way to begin to understand hevel in Ecclesiastes is to understand 1.3-11. Chapter 1 presents the scholarly conversation this project enters while presenting some of the unresolved problems the primary text creates. Answers to these problems are suggested, anticipated contributions enumerated. It has not been shown to satisfaction how the first eleven verses of this book cohere or how its various strands―involving Davidic Israel, Qohelet himself, and all creation―tie together. This thesis aims to help remedy that situation. It shows Ecclesiastes not to be the black sheep of the Hebrew Bible but in line with its whole corpus. Chapter 2 reads Ecclesiastes 1.1 as forming an allusive-inclusio with verse 11 which echoes the regnal history of Israel from David to exile, thereby initiating the process of folding the story of Qohelet and Israel into the creation account which follows. It is thus a primer for the two-word judgment hakkol hevel which is summarised in verse 2 and unpacked in verses 3-11 and which folds all things (hakkol) into one thing (hevel). Chapter 3 is a reading of Ecclesiastes 1.2 that discerns its final two words, hakkol hevel, as encapsulating the verse and determining the verses that directly follow, namely Ecclesiastes 1.3-11. These two words carry the verbal freight of hevel into the creation of 1.3-11 and suggest that if we want to understand hevel we must understand the words that immediately follow and first explain it, verses 3-11. Lastly, the way in which hevel appears in verse 2 suggests what verse 1 did, that Qohelet is drawing on the sordid history of Israel to explain the state of all things in what follows. Chapters 3-6 are a close reading of Ecclesiastes 1.3-11 that traces the dynamic of hakkol hevel as it unfolds within creation, speaking both to the corrupt condition of creation and of Israel, thus tying the two together. Chapter 4 reads Ecclesiastes 1.3-4 as showing man and nature as distinct, connected by man’s painful toil, and thus characterised in their relationship by a subtle animosity. Chapter 5 reads Ecclesiastes 1.5-7 as showcasing nature as something characterised by man’s profitless toil but in its own way, through its endurance as opposed to man’s transience. Chapter 6 reads Ecclesiastes 1.8 as the convergence- point of the prologue, as the place where all creation becomes one, wearying thing and thus succinctly reflects hakkol hevel, whose highly antithetical meaning is something like everything is nothing. Verse 8 also hints at the reason for this cosmic fusion and dissolution: it is man’s idolatry, something hevel often speaks to in the Hebrew Bible. Chapter 7 reads Ecclesiastes 1.9-11 as the consummation of this cosmic fusion and dissolution: in these verses all time and space converge into one, wearying, forgettable and forgotten thing. The process mimics the process of death and tells us about what hevel means, for creation, and through Qohelet, for his people, Israel. This homogenisation of time and space polemicises the Latter Prophets through allusion and counters the hope for Israel and creation they proclaim. This is what hakkol hevel means for Qohelet. It means the end of all things, including Israel, in death, and owing to idolatry. Even so, through echo of the Hebrew Bible and in line with it, this prologue may hold out a glimmer of hope for Israel and all things.

Abstract:
AbstractAlumina (α-Al2O3) is one of the representative structural ceramics. To understand its mechanical responses, the lattice defect behavior of alumina has been investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) for many years. In this report, we review our recent research progress on TEM structural analysis of lattice defects in alumina. In the first half, the core atomic structure and dissociation reaction of b = $$1/3<11\bar{2}0>$$ 1 / 3 < 11 2 ¯ 0 > , $$<1\bar{1}00>$$ < 1 1 ¯ 00 > , and $$1/3<\bar{1}101>$$ 1 / 3 < 1 ¯ 101 > dislocations formed in low-angle grain boundaries are investigated by atomic-resolution TEM observations. Based on experimental results, the slip deformation behavior associated with those dislocations is discussed. In the second half, the formation of $$1/3<11\bar{2}0>$$ 1 / 3 < 11 2 ¯ 0 > dislocations and fracture of Zr-doped ∑13 grain boundary of alumina are observed by in situ TEM nanoindentation. Furthermore, these indented samples were observed by atomic-resolution scanning TEM. The mechanisms of the deformation and fracture phenomena are discussed in detail.

Abstract:
Abstract Evaporation and transport of a liquid droplet are generally regarded as two independent procedures in various scenarios. Here, we reveal a self-propelled mechanism allowing for the directional transport of an evaporating droplet between two non-parallel hydrophobic surfaces with dihedral angle α. Based on force and energy analyses, the confined droplet of volume V would drift towards an equilibrium position of distance le from the cusp with the lowest Gibbs free energy G. And the directional motion of the evaporating droplet results from the consecutively decreasing le, which is scaled as ∼α−1V1/3 during droplet evaporation. Herein the droplet motion could be characterized by the creeping mode and the slipping mode. Thus, the self-driven behavior of droplet is ascribed to its relaxation process from the stretched regime to the equilibrium regime. Our finding on the intrinsic mechanism of droplet actuations sheds light on a novel approach to manipulating the confined droplet behaviors in a passive and decisive fashion.

Abstract:
Due to the ever increasing demand for energy resources, more and more attention is being paid to renewable energy resources. One such potential resource is lignocellulosic biomass that can be treated to acquire a carbohydrate rich substrate for further use in producing biofuels such as bioethanol or biobutanol. In this study, birch (Betula pendula) chips were used in fast pyrolysis to acquire bio-oil. This bio-oil was further hydrolyzed in pressurized reactor Parr 4554 to produce a carbohydrate rich feedstock. Hydrolysis conditions were optimized. Several conditions - three different temperatures (111, 121, 131 °C) and four different sulfuric acid concentrations (0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5 M) were tested. The optimal conditions were 121 °C with 0.2 M sulfuric acid as a catalyst that allowed to acquire a solution with the total glucose concentration being 6.6% that can be further used as a feedstock for biofuel acquiring.

Full text
Abstract:
The behaviors of model-I fatigue crack propagation behaviors under different strain cycles in single crystal aluminum have been systematically investigated by molecular dynamic and quasicontinuum method with embedded atom potential. Four different crack orientations: (010)[001], (111)[11-2], (110)[001] and (101)[10-1] are investigated by using the edge-crack model. Different fatigue crack growth mechanisms such as cleavage crack propagation, twinning and dislocation emission are observed. Premature crack surface contact during the unloading path is also observed for the (010)[001] crack, which is consistent with the crack closure hypothesis in the classical fatigue theory. The relationship between local deformation and crack growth kinetics are identified by using crack tip increments and crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) profiles at the selected stress cycle. The results show that crack only grows during part of the loading path and no crack growth during the unloading path, which are well in agreement with our previous in-situ SEM observations.

Full text
Abstract:
A comprehensive fracture mechanics based life prediction methodology is presented for FCC (Face Centered Cubic) single crystal components, based on computation of stress intensity factors (SIFs), and modeling the crystallographic fatigue crack growth process, under mixed-mode loading conditions. The 3D finite element numerical procedure presented for computing SIFs for anisotropic materials under mixed-mode loading is very general, and not just specific to FCC single crystals. Stress intensity factors for a Brazilian Disc (BD) specimen are presented for the crack on the {111} plane in the 〈101〉 and 〈121〉 directions, which represent the primary and secondary slip directions. Variation of SIFs as a function of thickness is also presented. Modeling of the crystallographic fatigue crack growth (FCG) behavior is performed by using the resolved shear stress intensity coefficient (RSSIC), Krss. This parameter is sensitive to the grain orientation and is based on the resolved shear stresses on the slip planes at the crack tip, which is useful in identifying the active crack plane as well as predicting the crack growth direction. A multiaxial fatigue crack driving force parameter, ΔKrss, was quantified, which can be used to predict the FCG rate and hence life in single crystal components subject to mixed mode fatigue loading.

Abstract:
The key to successful manufacturing of complicated geometry in numerically controlled machines lies in the control and quality of operations planning. Process planning, as it is considered plays an important role in the innovation process. It is the interface between product development and manufacturing system development. Hence, in this paper, process planning is considered to be an active part in the concurrent development of products and their manufacturing systems, not only as an activity where manufacturing resources are selected. The authors focus on the use of the new standard; ISO 14649, to address the process planning and machining of turn/mill discrete components. This paper identifies a view of how ISO 14649 can be used to combine turning and milling operations to achieve the complete machining of rotational asymmetric components at a single turning centre. The use of the individual parts of the evolving standard ISO 14649, namely Parts 10, 11, 12, 111 and 121 has been investigated to provide the means to represent STEP-compliant turn/mill component programs.
