Abstract:
Saprobic fungi are known for their critical role in decomposition and nutrient cycling. The study of saprobic fungi is equally important, as it helps in understanding their ecological roles and identifying their hidden diversity. This study focused on saprobic fungi on Aquilaria, which is poorly studied compared to economically important hosts like coffee, tea, and rubber. Our rigorous process led to the collection of two new terrestrial saprobic fungi from the Guangdong and Yunnan provinces in China. This dissertation argues that Paul’s apostolic mission to the Gentiles was the definitive expression of his divine vocation as an Israelite, and thus of his Jewish identity. For many of Paul’s Jewish contemporaries, Israel’s divine vocation was to keep and to teach the precepts of the Law of Moses as an exemplary witness to God’s power and wisdom. For Paul, however, Jewish identity was expressed primarily by preaching the gospel of Christ, as the fulfilment of the Law of Moses, to the Gentiles. This is seen most clearly in Paul’s letter to the Romans. In chapter 1, we summarize our methodology

The genus Helichrysum (Asteraceae) comprises about 600 species of perennial or annual plants distributed in Europe, Asia, and Africa, which are an abundant source of secondary metabolites, such as flavonoids, chalcones, phenolic acids, coumarins, pyrones, and terpenes [1]. In the Republic of Moldova only one species H. arenarium (L.) Moench-(popularly known as everlasting), occurs sporadically on the cliffs of the right bank of the Nistru River, in the landscape reserve "Climăuții de jos", in the Steppe Hills steppes, on the limestones of Naslavcea, with a declining population [2]. Forskolin stimulates adenylate cyclase by interacting with the catalytic subunit and inhibits platelet aggregation. This inhibition is greatly potentiated by adenosine (Ado) which stimulates adenylate cyclase through membrane-bound Ado receptors. Forskolin is 2-4 fold more potent as an inhibitor of collagen-induced rat platelet aggregation as compared to human platelets (IC50 values, in rat PRP, 0.5-0.8 μM; in human PRP, 1.5-2 μM). However, if the blood is pretreated with adenosine deaminase (ADA), an enzyme that degrades Ado to inosine, the inhibitory action of forskolin is greatly reduced pr

Birds are prominent features of National Park Service lands and are effective indicators for monitoring ecosystem health. Assessing the temporal change of avian species abundance depends on long-term monitoring of bird communities and trends, however long-term monitoring programs are generally uncommon. In this report, we summarize 22 years (1997-2018) of point count data across five sites on West Virginia National Park Service lands (three in New River Gorge National River, one in Gauley River National Recreation Area, and one in Bluestone National Scenic River) and compare these results to o

The Lycopodiaceae sensu lato is one of the large family of vascular plants comprising about 480 species. Treatment of the genera in this family is rather different among botanists ranging from a single genus, i.e. Lycopodium s.l. to 15 genera. Phylloglossum Kunze, is usually recognized as a distinct genus and family, Phylloglossaceae due to its unique characters and endemics to Australia. The most recognized classification segregated members of the Lycopodiaceae into three genera, namely Huperzia Bernhardi, Lycopodiella Holub, and Lycopodium L. s. str. Abstract:
This report explores the opportunities for wildlife mitigation in and around two national park units in West Virginia; Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, and New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. The wildlife mitigation measures that will be explored are aimed at: 1. Reducing wildlife-vehicle collisions with large mammals (i.e. coyote and larger), and thereby also improving human safety; 2. Reducing direct road mortality for Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN); and 3. Reducing the barrier effect of roads and traffic and increasing habitat connectivity across major highways

Birds are an important component of park ecosystems. Due to their high body temperature, rapid metabolism, and high ecological position in most food webs, birds are also good indicators of the effects of local and regional ecosystem changes.
