In the course of the 20th century, Germany experienced four important political and social upheavals on November 9th: The Novemberrevolution in 1918, the Hitler putsch in 1923, the “Night of Broken Glass” in 1938 and the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. SummaryIndividual autonomy was rediscovered in modernity when it came to the persecution of dissenters in Germany after the Reformatio n. Since the 18th century the ‘Privatautonomie’ of the individual has been established in German private law. Later, in the 19th century, the term autonomy gained ground in the legal terminology of French private law, also thanks to the German emigrant Foelix. In the 20th century autonomy, not least thanks to German-speaking jurists who fled from the Nazis, became a legal term also used in the private law of the USA and Great Britain.

In modern Standard German, the base order of direct and indirect full noun objects in the ‘Mittelfeld’ is considered to be IO&gt;DO. Deviation from this order is influenced by various linguistic factors such as prosody, complexity, syntactic structure, animacy, definiteness, and information structure. Does this also hold for dialectal and historical varieties of German?
