Liquid-jet photoemission spectroscopy (LJ-PES) directly probes the electronic structure of solutesand solvents. It also emerges as a novel tool to explore chemical structure in aqueous solutions, yetthe scope of the approach has to be examined. Here, we present a pH-dependent liquid-jet photoelectronspectroscopic investigation of ascorbic acid (vitamin C). We combine core-level photoelectronspectroscopy and ab initio calculations, allowing us to site-specifically explore the acid-base chemistryof the biomolecule. Abstract:
This review outlines the limitations of current direct recycling methods for common cathode materials (NMC, LFP, LCO, and LMO) and anode graphite in spent LIBs, mainly from a laboratory-scale perspective. The work points out the main limitations of stateof-the-art direct recycling technologies, including solid-state sintering, electrochemical relithiation, ionothermal relithiation, solution relithiation, and the eutectic relithiation method, which are typically used for highly effective regeneration of spent materials, including the restoration of their electrochemical and structural propertie

All-solid-state batteries are currently considered one of the most reliable battery systems, as they are nonflammable and do not form dendrites during the charging cycle, unlike liquid electrolyte batteries. Additionally, they are expected to offer higher energy density compared to current batteries. This work focuses on the preparation of a material that could serve as a cathode in all-solid-state batteries. The cathode material was obtained from end-of-life batteries, which enabled its reuse, and was used as a filler in glassy nano/micro-fibers prepared by electrospinning. Using the material

AbstractThere is conflicting evidence regarding the effect of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in pregnancy. Risk factors for COVID-19 overlap with risk factors for pregnancy complications. We aimed to assess the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection on pregnancy outcomes. A retrospective interrupted time-series and matched cohort analysis was performed. Singleton pregnancies completed between 1st January 2016 and 31st January 2021 were included. Trends in outcomes were analysed over time. AbstractIn recent years, the attention of political scientists investigating political polarization has turned from the ideological aspects of polarization to its partisan and affective aspects. This recent turn implied that this area has experienced an urgent need to create appropriate polarization indices that are backed with high-quality data across time and countries to carry out comparative research. This paper argues that existing polarization indices mostly fail to adequately include the most important aspect of polarization, that is, bimodality. To fill this gap, it proposes a partisan

Many surprising properties of quantum materials result from Coulomb correlations defining electronic quasiparticles and their interaction chains. In van der Waals layered crystals, enhanced correlations have been tailored in reduced dimensions, enabling excitons with giant binding energies and emergent phases including ferroelectric, ferromagnetic and multiferroic orders. Yet, correlation design has primarily relied on structural engineering. Here we present quantitative experiment–theory proof that excitonic correlations can be switched through magnetic order. Abstract Background The mitochondrial DNA of trypanosomatids, including Leishmania, is known as kinetoplast DNAs (kDNAs). The kDNAs form networks of hundreds of DNA circles that are evidently interlocked and require complex RNA editing. Previous studies showed that kDNA played a role in drug resistance, adaptation, and survival of Leishmania. Leishmania martiniquensis is one of the most frequently observed species in Thailand, and its kDNAs have not been illustrated. Methods This study aimed to extract the kDNA sequences from Illumina short-read and PacBio long-read whole-genome sequence data
