Abstract:
The synthetic opportunities furnished by organic synthesis and the inherent structure-directing possibilities of coordination complexes have been combined in the assembly of a series of layered metal-containing hybrid materials. The supramolecular assembly relies on self-complementary non-covalent interactions, and in five of the six structures presented herein, N–H···O=C hydrogen bonds between acetamide moieties on neighbouring ligands provide the primary structure-direction tool as intended. The distances between metal ions are controlled by ligand···ligand hydrogen bonds and reside within a

Abstract:
The co-crystallisation behaviour of three symmetrical dipyridylacetylacetone ligands (1,3-di(2-pyridyl)-1,3-propanedione (o-bppdH), 1,3-di(3-pyridyl)-1,3-propanedione (m-bppdH), and 1,3-di(4-pyridyl)-1,3-propanedione (p-bppdH)), with the linear halogen-bond donor 1,4-diiodotetrafluorobenzene (1,4-DITFB) has been investigated. The reaction of these components under ambient conditions in a 1 : 1 stoichiometry produced four halogen-bonded assemblies ([o-bppdH·1,4-DITFB, [m-bppdH·1,4-DITFB], [2(m-bppdH)·1,4-DITFB], and [p-bppdH·1,4-DITFB]). The combination of multiple supramolecular interactions i

Abstract:
Bond cooperativity effects, which are typical of `resonant' chains or rings of π-conjugated hydrocarbons, can also occur in hydrogen-bonded systems in the form of σ-bond and π-bond cooperativity or anticooperativity. σ-Bond cooperativity is associated with the long chains of O—H...O bonds in water and alcohols while σ-bond anticooperativity occurs when the cooperative chain is interrupted by a local defect reversing the bond polarity. π-Bond cooperativity is the driving force controlling resonance-assisted hydrogen bonds (RAHBs), while π-bond anticooperativity has never been considered so far

Abstract 1-Phenyl-1,2-propanedione-2-oxime reacts with 3-piperidylthiosemicarbazide and 3-hexamethyleneiminylthiosemicarbazide to give the respective 1-phenyl-1,2-propanedione-1-thiosemicarbazone-2-oximes, HPopip and HPohexim. The crystal structure of HPopip shows the oxime and thiosemicarbazone moieties in a conformation single-trans respect to carbon-carbon. A six-coordinate nickel(II) complex, [Ni(Pohexim)2], has two monoanionic (through loss of a proton from the thiosemicarbazone function) oxime-thiosemicarbazone ligands coordinated in a meridonal arrangement via the oxime nitrogen, the th
