Abstract:
Previous studies have reported a close relationship between nutritional and functional domains, but evidence in long-term care residents is still limited. We evaluated the relationship between nutritional risk and functional status and the association of these two domains with mortality in newly institutionalised elderly. In the present multi-centric prospective cohort study, involving 346 long-term care resident elderly, nutritional risk and functional status were determined upon admission by the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) and the Barthel Index (BI), respectively. Abstract Purpose 1. To determine the effect of vitamin D supplementation on bone age (BA), a marker of skeletal maturity, and Bone Health Index (BHI), a surrogate marker of bone density. 2. To characterise the differences in nutritional intake and anthropometry between children with advanced vs. delayed BA. Methods The current study is a post hoc analysis of radiographs obtained as part of a randomised controlled trial. In this double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, deprived Afghan children (n = 3046) aged 1–11 months were randomised to receive six doses of oral placebo or vitamin D3 (100,000

20054 Background: L is a cytokine-like hormone that controls adipocyte mass and energy balance by binding to OB-R. Both L and OB-R have been implicated in carcinogenesis and were recently identified in human BC. The clinical significance of increased expression of L and OB-R in human BC is unclear. Methods: The anti-L rabbit (A-20) and anti-OB-R goat (M-18) polyclonal antibodies (ABs) from Santa Cruz Biotechnology were applied in indirect immunohistochemical (IHC) assays. Following antigen retrieval, ABs were reacted with 5 μm paraffin sections of tissue microarrays (TMAs). TMAs included 1mm c

Abstract Introduction: Breast cancer (BC) in women age 40 or younger represents approximately 7% of all BC cases. Studies have reported that BC in younger women is more likely to have adverse tumor characteristics and outcomes when compared to elder women. Despite the fact that BC in the Middle East seems to occur at a younger age, data on tumor characteristics in these patients are scarce, especially in the United Arab Emirates. Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the incidence, clinicopathological characteristics, treatment modalities, and outcomes of young BC patients at a ma

e13001 Background: The genomic landscape of female breast cancer is rapidly evolving partially owing to advancements in next generation sequencing (NGS). Here we report the genomic characteristics of female breast cancer patients with locally recurrent inoperable and metastatic disease. Methods: IRB approval was obtained for a retrospective analysis of archived pathology on patients treated at Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Comprehensive genomic profiling of tumors was derived from Foundation One (F1) and Guardant 360 NGS. Clinical information was derived from retrospective chart review.

Background.Inborn errors of immunity (IEI) are characterized by impaired lymphoid or myeloid immune cell function, resulting in premature mortality. Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT) can be curative. The ideal conditioning regimen offers rapid engraftment, reduced organ toxicity and low rates of graft-versus-host disease (GvHD). Here, we report our experience of a phase 2 clinical trial utilizing a reduced intensity conditioning (RIC) regimen consisting of alemtuzumab, fludarabine, melphalan, and thiotepa for the treatment of IEI. Abstract NPM1 mutation (NPM1c) defines the commonest molecular subtype of AML, which is molecularly heterogeneous, with outcome influenced by the pattern of cooperating mutations. This has generated interest in molecular profiling to guide treatment approach, particularly concerning allogeneic transplantation (SCT) in first complete remission (CR1). Patients with NPM1c AML with FLT3-ITD and/or DNMT3A mutations have been associated with poorer outcome and are widely considered candidates for SCT. Conversely, those with the NPM1c/FLT3-ITDneg genotype are no longer routinely transplanted in CR1,

Abstract The incidence of vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis (VUAS) post radical prostatectomy varies from 1 to 26%. Current treatment can be challenging and includes a variety of different procedures. These range from endoscopic dilations to bladder neck reconstruction to urinary diversion. We investigated a 2-stage endoscopic treatment, using the thermo-expandable Memokath®045 bladder neck stent to manage patients with VUAS post radical prostatectomy. We retrospectively reviewed 30 patients, between 2013 and 2017, who underwent a Memokath®045 stent insertion following failed primary treatme

Abstract:
A three-stage, low speed axial research compressor has been actively stabilized by damping low amplitude circumferentially travelling waves which can grow into rotating stall. Using a circumferential array of hot wire sensors, and an array of high speed individually positioned control vanes as the actuator, the first and second spatial harmonics of the compressor were stabilized down to a characteristic slope of 0.9, yielding an 8% increase in operating flow range. Stabilization of the third spatial harmonic did not alter the stalling flow coefficient. The actuators were also used open loop to
