Abstract:
Methods of Lie group analysis of differential equations are extended to weak solutions of (linear and non-linear) partial differential equations, where the term `weak solution' comprises the following settings: distributional solutions; solutions in generalized function algebras; solutions in the sense of association (corresponding to a number of weak or integral solution concepts in classical analysis). Factorization properties and infinitesimal criteria that allow the treatment of all three settings simultaneously are developed, thereby unifying and extending previous work in this area.2000

Abstract NKG2D is an activating receptor on NK cells and activated CD8 T cells that has been implicated in tumor immunity, viral immunity and autoimmunity. The ligands of NKG2D are tightly regulated stress-inducible molecules, whose expression is triggered by transformation or infection. In mice, these NKG2D ligands include the retinoic acid early inducible-1 (RAE-1) proteins. However, the mechanisms of transcriptional regulation in RAE-1 genes are poorly understood. We examined what transcription factors regulate RAE-1 expression. We found that RAE-1 delta has six exons and RAE-1 epsilon has

Religious life in the later middle ages was increasingly dominated by the mendicant Orders, notably the Franciscans. Their dominance also extended to the artistic life of the day. The initial artistic campaigns of the Franciscans centred on the native province of the founder, most notably in the Upper and Lower churches of S. Francesco in Assisi. With the expansion of the Order and the death and canonization of the second Franciscan saint, Anthony of Padua, his adopted province, the Veneto, became an important centre for theological and artistic activity. This paper presents a general solution to the direct static problem of a planar body suspended from two cables. First, the conditions for static equilibrium are stated and a mathematical formulation of the problem is derived. A twelfth degree univariate polynomial is then obtained using the resultant of two intermediate polynomials. It is shown that up to twelve real solutions can be obtained, thereby confirming that the polynomial is of minimal degree. Since the condition used in the derivation is necessary but not sufficient, the roots must be tested a posteriori for validity. Simple mathema
